Cute little greasy cafe right on the main drag. Our local friends suggested this little place for its big portions and yummy menu and they weren't lying.... BIG PORTION is right! It was around 11 so there weren't too many donuts on display and I wasn't that hungry but I can almost always manage some eggs so I got a breakfast burrito and planned on eating half... Our smarter friends ordered eggs & potatoes which looked great but I try to be a bit more adventurous when eating away from home. This location has its own parking lot (a rarity in San Clemente!) and a few tables inside as well as a nice sunshiny patio on which to enjoy your breakfast. The staff is very young but friendly and knowledgeable. They take your order then you have a number to pick up either inside at the order counter OR there is a pick up window that opens to the outside patio as well. I don't know what made me do it, but I thought ordering the chorizo burrito (same as my husband) was a good idea... for me? Its possible the years of SOY-rizo I've eaten that tricked me into thinking this was a good idea. NOTE: although spiced the same, soyrizo & chorizo will never BE the same. My burrito came looking like a roided-out guido.... big, orange, and glistening! Needless to say, I've made better choices. I know its my fault, and I'm sure many patrons (including my husband!) love this burrito but I just am not one of them. I cut the burrito open and poked around to find some eggs/cheese I could manage and ended up giving the rest to my husband. Although he loves him some meat, he was feeling a bit queasy from the grease overload as well so I ended up tossing the rest. Next time I might follow my much wiser "regular" friend and try one of the bowls or a salsa & avocado omelet... one things for sure, that will be the last time I order chorizo here... or anywhere for that matter! Grade: F- Purchased a dozen donuts, found hair on a glazed round donut. Grossed out, but thought it was perhaps just a fluke so just threw it away. It happens, so we weren't going to make a big deal about it. Was about to choose another donut but found more small hairs (not just one but a few!) on another glazed twisted donut! WTF. Called them and hubby had to drive all the way back to show them the gross hairs and get a refund. Hair on 2 different donuts. That is unacceptable. I'm a big proponent of local businesses and love to support them but not when they are this irresponsible and unsanitary. Will never return. This was at Surfin Donuts not the Grill. Location is great, it's a very busy visible spot. However, I was not impressed, I did not llove the bagel I ordered, coffee was weak and sugar donuts were falling apart, too much sugar and it wasn't fine. Service could be better, they are not too friendly, more rushed than anything. I paid almost $20 today and I was not happy with anything, this is an expensive place. Holy crap! Again, finding this place was an accident. A Very Wonderful accident. Not just donuts (very good donuts) but fabulous baked goods as well. I would suggest their ham and cheese croissants - especially after getting out of the water after a hard morning's surf session. Their coffees are from a decent roaster and they offer a wide variety.. I can also recommend their apple fritters - which are quite unlike the heavy, leaden, grease-sponges that most donut shops pass off as 'edible' - these are light and have a very subtle hint of vanilla. When I lived in Carlsbad and worked in Irvine Surfin Donuts was my go to place. The cinnamon twist is almost impossible to find and when I have, nothing comes close to Surfin Donuts. My wife loves the old fashioned and ham and cheese croissant but Billy is crazy for the French cruller and chocolate cake donut. A little pricey...2 donuts and OJ is $9.00. The gal waiting on me said she would not allow me to come in anymore without a mask. I asked her why. Her response was bc of the mandate. I went there at 9 am during the week for a donut. I found no place to park. Had to wait around a while to park. Once I got in, I bought a ham & cheese and coffee, and the get the bill. It's over $7.00. The prices here are just through the roof. The ham and cheese tasted more like a $2.00 ham and cheese. It was OK, not really worth that kind of money. The coffee was decent, and was all you can drink. One good thing about this place: CNN on the TV. So you can get your bad news fix. read more

This has become our family's go to weekend donut, coffee and breakfast spot. Friendly service, fresh donuts and at least 8 types of self serve coffee. Keeps us coming back! The burritos are really good with the steak being my favorite. The breakfast sandwich is also tasty along with their pancakes. There are only three tables inside but there are several tables and benches outside. Its the beach, why not sit outside? Staff is friendly, tables are bussed quickly and are kept clean. I stopped in here for a quick coffee and donut because it was close to where I was staying, and I have to say, the donuts are truly fabulous!
