Such a cool spot!…read more We visited Toba on a recent Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by this cute little spot! The menu is lengthy with so many options to choose from! We were a little overwhelmed by the choices at first, but we quickly decided to try several different things to get a better idea of the flavors and what we might like best! We started with a house salad, which was so delicious! Fresh, yummy ingredients with a truly delightful ginger dressing! Hugh flavor! Next we ordered the Gyoza - this dish was AMAZING! The dumplings were perfectly cooked and served with a delicious traditional dipping sauce. Also included was a garnish slaw with a spicy mayo dressing - this complimented the dish SO well. This dish was honestly our favorite part of our entire visit and we highly recommend!! Of course we had to try a sushi burrito which is possibly their most unique offering! I've never heard of sushi in a burrito form before Toba, what a great idea!! It's basically a giant, handheld, wrapped up piece of sushi! We chose the Toba Burrito with steamed shrimp, shrimp tempura, spicy crab salad, avocado, tempura flakes, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. This was a delicious combination! Because it's in a burrito the ingredients are thicker compared to sushi, and you can taste each addition better, but my husband and I both agreed that while this was a very fun item to try, we prefer the regular sushi rolls to the burrito. Smaller bites of each combo of flavors is our preference. :) We also got a K-zoo sushi roll which was delicious but not as chilled as I expected it to be. These pieces were large, (bigger than a one bite piece of sushi) but packed with quality, fresh ingredients with really great flavors!! My husband and I both ordered a cup of tea, both were delicious and perfect for a cloudy, rainy day!! There are several options to choose from, we asked our waiter for further explanation and recommendations. :) There are so many more options to try at Toba - we will definitely be back to try more things, the ramen for one! :) The service at Toba was excellent! Our server was very attentive and helpful! Our order arrived very quickly and in perfect stages since we tried so many different things! The atmosphere is modern and seating is consolidated to a fairly small area. We were seated in the cutest front booth, right in the window. Best seat in the house, I'd say! Kalamazoo is beaming with great foodie spots! Toba is a great addition to the downtown scene!! :)

The rolls were - good - tasting. Not well rolled up, falling apart. Some were cut so thin they fell apart. Some so huge they needed a fork and to me that's kind of a no-no for sushi. One was so large it was to large man bites. But the flavor was good on most of them. And to answer the most important question, yes, I'm going back! You should try this place for sure!

Husband found a EARRING in his left over hibachi FOOD at work today!!!! rice meat veggies earring !!! black metal diamond stud! I seriously am shocked I can't eat my leftovers now thinking about it Issue While still restaurant: everyone got their steak done cooking, except for me. The chef didn't get enough steak, or gave mine to everyone around me. My husband got a filet that got all mixed up with the sirloins. Seemed like all CHEWYS in his sirloin, supposedly a filet. Chef had to go back and grab 1 steak and cook it while everyone was eating. Everyone was done eating, while I was waiting for my steak to be cooked alone JUST having dental work on his front teeth. We just spent 30,000$ on dental work on implants, I would never spend over 100$ with tip, there again for 2 ppl to eat, and drink, then messing up his new 3 front teeth on a earring that fell out of a employee's ear into my food then sat in my fridge overnight to him eating it the next day at work! Im scarred for LIFE from hibachi!!!! When he told me what happened to him at work today just now, i had to write a review. I've never had this happen anywhere, I feel bad writing this bc I used to enjoy hibachi EVERYWHERE, I'm stunned. I'm feeling lucky he didn't swallow it and choke!

Hibachi Benihana Teriyaki?…read more I love wild chef. But ordered on DoorDash. $40! $36.99 for Yaninuku (japanese seasoned sirloin hibachi plate). It came with miso soup that looks bigger than the bowl they give you at the restaurant, and salad is probably about the same size as in the restaurant. Probably the only hibachi place around in Holland that I like. I can't think of any other places that does hibachi in Holland.

Although parking can be confusing for your first time going. I love their Bao appetizer. The Bento box is worth getting for the money, I think it gives the best variety of options, it's great! The spicy yaki udon is good too, but definitely spicy and better with soy sauce. Give this place a try!

We were recommended this restaurant so we were excited to give it a go. Sadly, it was a bit of a miss for us. The gyoza, Rangoon, and ramen didn't really taste to either of us like anything special warranting the price. There's an Asian takeaway close to home that we prefer for these items and it's a bit cheaper. Lunch prices weren't great. I liked the sauce for the karaage chicken, but the chicken pieces weren't very good. My hubs actually had to go inside and get salt. I hate leaving negative reviews, I'm not sure if they were having a bad day? We were really hoping to have a special lunch, but ended up paying double what we would've elsewhere for food that was less tasty. I was really, really surprised. And disappointed. Even if we'd paid less, I prob still wouldn't return. The flavors just weren't flaving. Like, it was good, but not remarkable. The Rangoon were probably the best bites, but I can get the same or better quality elsewhere for half the price. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere.
