Cozy and pleasant. Drinks are inexpensive and my Cosmopolitan was the best ever. I've only ordered sushi and I was impressed with the quality and the value. I needed a take out box for both visits. The front area is a good place for adults to meet for Happy Hour and they have an Early Bird menu with specials. There is a large back room for families. read more

The girls and I met up here today..... damn it's good! We were there mid afternoon so it was slow but they tolerated our laughing and jokes. I got my standby California roll and then some triple dragon delicious tuna madness. My friends got other ones I was eyeballing. Our sodas were full, staff was friendly and it was VERY clean. The bathroom could stand to be redone and cleaned but it wasn't gross or anything (ie toilet was clean!!!!). The presentation of my sushi was fantastic. I will be back. Was not Japanese owned or staffed. Chinese owned (I think they were speaking Cantonese). The "sushi" wasn't sushi... It's just fish on rice. The sushi rice wasn't seasoned very well. The rolls are quite small and yet very expensive. Had a tuna roll hand roll and the tuna wasn't fresh, but wasn't bad. Clearly the "sushi" chef lacked experienced making "sushi." The hand roll was literally tuna and rice wrapped in seaweed. I also had a dragon roll. It was lackluster, lacked flavor, and chef went cheap on the eel. There was no tempura in the roll, and the chef even forgot the eel sauce. total I spent $26 or so dollars for a bootleg dragon roll, tuna and rice wrapped in seaweed, and a beer. Did not leave satisfied. I'm not even going to go into the customer service, which wasn't bad, but was very lacking. Very little interaction from the staff. I've been going here for a while whether it be to eat-in or take-out. Service has been okay but nothing great. The sushi is great when you get what you've ordered. When you eat in, there is a large wait even if there are only 2 other customers. When ordering out and nobody is there it can be up to a thirty minute wait. Example of a previous order, we ordered 5 DIFFERENT things and ended up w three different things and two the exact same. Another example is I ordered two simple things and go in to pick up and the order was wrong, 20 minutes after I ordered via phone. Took another 20 minutes for them to fix it and give everyone that ordered the same time their order and after those that ordered before mine. This place is confusing from the waiter who makes horrid jokes to the woman who tries to be overly polite. Something has been missing for months and I do believe its the changes they have made. If you don't mind waiting for food that has sat (my beef dumplings were completely cold) this is your place to go. While I understand sushi is not completely fresh unless you catch it yourself, I'd rather pay those prices at another establishment that can honor the customer and not take 5 people to make sure the order is correct. The sushi here is fantastic. Fresh and tasty. They have a huge menu and nearly everything I've tried is great. They are a little expensive if you decide to try lots of different sushi and rolls. The Seaweed salad is the best I have ever had. Most of the wait staff are Japanese native speakers, so marking the menu and making sure you point out each item is the best way to make sure you get your whole order. Even that aside, awesome sushi. 4/14/18: Went back due to seeing some good reviews on their re-open. They did up their game, but it was a mix of good and so-so. Steak and chicken lunch box: Steak was fantastic, tender, flavorful, with perfectly complimenting sauce. Chicken was tough and flavorless. Yami sushi roll was really good, except the rice was like a rice paste--you couldn't even see the individual rice grains. I asked about it and was told it was a new way to make sushi rice with vinegar. I'd like to call BS on that. What makes sushi is perfectly cooked rice. So, I am tossed about going back. 6/1/13: They changed their menu and the last 2 times we went here, the sushi was great. Today we went and the salad had old lettuce, the ginger was old, as was the wasabi. 3 young men and a cook, and it took quite some time to order or get served. The sushi was still good. I'll probably go again, but one more semi-so-so experience and that's it. Food costs too much to play hit or miss. Rule #1: ALWAYS USE FRESH INGREDIENTS!! read more

Watch your bill! Went here for the first, and let me assure you, very last time, a few days ago. Here are some pictures of my bill vs. what the menu says things should cost. I can forgive the "serviceable" food and the spotty service (how long does it take to bring out a water?), but blaming a series of up-charges on having the "wrong menu for customers" is complete BS. I know that people who have known nothing but Woodbridge food fare must think this place is the bee's knees, but I am from Seattle. Japanese restaurants there are run by Japanese people (not Koreans reading off a Japanese script). To nihongo o hanashimasu. I've been eating this cuisine my entire life in a place where one is spoiled for choice (aka bad places don't stay in business very long). The food itself is pedestrian at best. Low rent ingredients, uninspired "specialty" rolls, and long wait times make this place not worth visiting even once. To echo Arturo G.'s sentiment, this place would never survive in a more competitive environment. But, thankfully (for the management), they're not, so they can get away with things that otherwise wouldn't fly. However, the real coup de grâce (death blow) is when they bring you the bill. Watch it carefully. They overcharged for almost EVERYTHING! The only price they got right was the price of a kid's soft drink. When I brought this up, the waitress said, "Oh, well, it's only over by $X.XX" I don't care. If she were a customer she wouldn't stand for it, so why should anyone else? The two tables around me found similar "discrepancies" on their bills as well. Hey, Ariang Management: False advertising is a crime. If you need to raise your prices, correct your menu and make customers aware BEFORE their meal, not AFTERWARDS. Would-Be-Customers: If you DO decide that this place is worth a go, just be sure you don't get swindled out of your money. If you subject yourself to coming here- don't waste your money on the specialty rolls. $13 for something I could barely swallow. Best Japanese Restaurant in Woodbridge, When you walked in, you already feel like you are in Tokyo. Very clean and the owner is very nice, Lunch is so cheap. I ordered one of their bento boxes for lunch ( shrimp tempura). As soon as i got it my eyes got bigger i was thinking more like lunch not dinner. I got 3 big tempura shrimp, some tempura veggies, salad, and in that same meal you get 3 california rolls, and also a bowl of miso soup. (unbelievable) You pay lunch but you get dinner portion. This place is great to have in dillingham square being that I live very close to it. Sushi is good! I get my typical California roll, shrimp tempura roll, and some eel. Being that it is so close to home I'd like to come more often, but I wish the service would improve. The renovation is great inside and it'll be nice to dine in, but the waiters service should be polished more. Their timing to approach and attitude towards service is below average. After being once here and enjoying the food although the rolls were falling apart as the rice was not sticky enough I came back here again. After the meal I realized I had left my wallet at home and let the waiter know that I can still pay as I remember my American Express number and details or I could get my check book from the car and pay with a check. The waiter said he would check with the owner. I had my laptop and phone with me and was planning to come to this restaurant regularly in Monday's thru Friday as I wait for my son's crew session to end. The owner came out and started treating me like a common criminal saying that he only accepts actual credit card and not numbers although I could see the machine where you can type the number off of the card and is regularly done at other stores if the card reader cannot read when the card is swiped, he refused to do so and got very angry with me for forgetting my card and said he wanted me to leave my laptop or phone and go home to bring cash or credit card or he would call the police. I was flabbergasted to be treated so and I was under time crunch to pick up my son after his practice and it had started raining. I told him I had been here before and had paid then (and even the waiter recognized me and supported me) from the week before when I had paid a $38 bill and would have been doing that Monday-Friday from now on but not after the outrageously horrible way I was treated and humiliated. I will never go back there again. I ended up leaving my phone so I couldn't let my son know I would be late (could not leave my laptop as it has personal info on it and just in case he decided not to give it back I couldn't take that chance. I went to the Suntrust bank in that strip mall and it was closed then I wrote a check to Food Lion and it was declined as I don't usually write checks and get money back. So I ended up buying more than half the amount I was requesting $40 in cash and finally it got approved and I avoided having to drive all the way back to Manassas from Woodbridge to get my credit card and went and paid in cash and got my phone back. What really got to me was the way he treated me like I was a criminal not someone who made an honest mistake and if he had been understanding and accepted the check is ruled in the card number he could have actually gained my loyalty and made so much money off me instead I am writing this review to let others know not to visit someone who has lost their humanity and has no business being in business where customer service is so important!! I've come here for the lunch special a few times and I've been pleased with the experience every time. I'm a fan of the sushi rolls: I had peanut avocado rolls, shrimp tempura, and the peppered tuna. The service wasn't rushed, but I was able to be in and out with twenty minutes to spare before I had to go back to work. Also, the dining area was very clean and decorated attractively. Used to be a regular at sakura but was disappointed. So I tried this place out. It's not awful, but their takeout is definitely better than eating in... The salad and soup was watery. When the food came out, I was given a small bowl of fried rice that looked fine but i could tell that it was overcooked and some rice had burned and was either removed or separated, leaving behind the taste of burnt rice along with overlooked rice. It came out to be about a small handful of rice.. The steak was surrounded by some watery orange stuff on top of a small portion of vegetables. The waiter was average, not smiling but alright (although we were the only ones there and it took him a while to come back after we finished our food and waited for the check). The sushi is good, slightly messy and not pretty but at least it tastes good. Overall, this place is average, but there are definitely better asian restaurants out there. read more

This place was hit or miss. The california roll, shrimp avo roll and tamago tasted like grocery store rolls. You know what Im talking about -- that weird taste and texture of the rice and seaweed. Not a fan! I think it was fake crab, and the shrimp were tiny and soggy, not the firm large white/pink shrimp that are typical. Im bummed because my 9 year old sons recently started loving sushi but did not enjoy the food here. Im really hoping this did not turn them off for good! The tuna avo was pretty fresh and good. The baked scotch salmon roll was decent, but did not seem to resemble what i ordered. I noticed the online menu is dif than in person. I was expecting tobiko on some of the rolls, due to the online menu, but they all came with sesame. Maybe i hit them on an off night, since other reviews were so good. read more

I had a hibachi dinner, which I enjoyed, and a fancy sushi roll, which I was somewhat disappointed in- I'd had the same thing at other restaurants that came out much better. I happened upon this place because it's next to my son's Tae Kwon Do School, and I wanted to try it out after looking through their menu displayed on their window. We've never eaten at the restaurant itself - not very big space - but it looked like they offered teppenyaki & hibachi specials as well as a LONG list of sushi selections. If you love your sushi and mixing the flavors up a bit, this place is PERFECT for you! Once I tasted one of their "Special Rolls", I kept going back to try everything else on their long list of options. Compared to other restaurants in the area that serve sushi, Ariang is at the top of the list - mainly because of their flavor combinations. The pricing is reasonable and pretty much the same as anywhere else. Unfortunately, they don't have a website or advertise anywhere, so you'll have to go to the restaurant and check it out that way.
