Sushi Blue Wave absolutely killed it in three areas: service, atmosphere, and most importantly the food. The service was amazing, with staff that made us feel welcomed and taken care of the whole time. The atmosphere was spot on too modern yet relaxed. But the star of the night was the food. Every dish had incredible flavor and presentation, but the sushi itself was on another level. The wagyu nigiri was to die for perfectly tender with a melt-in-your-mouth finish -- and the uni was the best I've had, so fresh and rich it was unforgettable. I've eaten at a lot of sushi spots across Kauai, and this easily makes it into my top 2. Such a wonderful experience, and I'm already looking forward to coming back again and again. I get decent sushi in California. Vacationing in Kauai I was hoping because it's an island surround by ocean fish I would not be disappointed. I wasn't. This place rocks. The fish is not only fresh but prepared in such a way that I never felt I needed soy sauce or extra wasabi. A little pricy but I'm on vacation. Fantabulous. Caught a late lunch here on a Saturday before our flight. Excellent service and the food was SUPER good. We have a variety of items from specialty rolls, sushi, bun, and apps. All were excellent. Small place so may need patience if going for dinner.... But definitely go. read more

Blue Wave is by far the best Sashimi/Sushi restaurant on the Island. Kauai has many places to choose from but the variety and quality of fish at Blue Wave out ranks the others. It is in a different class! Teddy, the owner, takes pride in his food, service, and ambience. We sat at the sushi bar and the chefs exhibited skill and caring preparation of each dish. Our server was attentive and noticed our dining pace and made sure we had a good experience. We will be back many times for sure. read more

I didn't get around to going until my last day in Kauai because I was staying at Poipu Beach and it's about a half hour drive from there and waited until I was in Lihue doing something else now I wish I had gone earlier so I could have gone more than once. read more

Amazing experience from beginning to end! Service, location, inside layout and food was very exceptional. The remodel of the place had a great vibe to it. Service was quick and answered every question we had. Drinks menu was simple which doesn't get complicated to choose. We ordered a few items like Octopus Karaage, Unagi/Avocado sushi, Ora king Salmon nigiri, Chefs specials of the night which included ahi, otoro, uni, snapper and halibut. They had my favorite of all "Hokkaido Uni" which was the only thing I took picture of. The presentation and flavor of everything we ordered was on point as if you were in Japan. Our server Kanako gave great service in a timely manner. We were able to meet the Owner Teddy and learned about his background. Very down to earth and respectful person. We also saw some friends dining in there and all they could say was ordering anything, you can't go wrong with any. Looks like we found our new favorite sushi spot. And we can't wait for the Omakase that will be offered in a few weeks. read more

Would not recommend. No one greeted us, we were met with contempt and annoyance with ordering. The servers were extremely rude and passive aggressive. We wanted to walk out partway through but unfortunately there aren't many options around. We will definitely not be back. We were recommended by two different friends, and will not be forwarding the same sentiment. Truly a disappointing experience, especially on our honeymoon. We are a mixed race couple and definitely felt the racism. On a flip note - check out the local bar nearby! read more

If you can't fly to Japan, this is the next best thing! Excellent, authentic sushi experience, with so many unique and yummy dishes! My favorites were the Hamachi and jalapeño sashimi and the Lemon Bliss roll. My friends enjoyed the Panko Shrimp Bao! The tempura was light and crisp with a nice mix of shrimp and assorted veggies. The owner informed us that he anticipates getting their liquor license in a week or so, but in the meantime, we were allowed to bring in our own beer, which our server immediately put on ice for us. Incredible dining experience. With a few parties ahead of us, we were concerned with the wait time. PJ offered to take our number and keep us up to date on the wait time. We were able to go see a few things and received a text that our table would be ready in 5 minutes. Such a thoughtful host! Then dinner was incredible, PJ recommend the dry age salmon nigiri and the bluefin toro. Both melted in our mouths. The mixed tempura came with a matcha salt to dip in that was incredible. Finally the blue crab and yellowtail roll was like nothing we had before. Amazing yuzu flavor! Definitely a must do! read more

Let's just say .... that my parents who are born and raised in Japan and have lived here on this island for 20 years have never been so happy eating out. This was the first time they asked for boxes for leftover food and continued to eat at home after dinner and for breakfast! The restaurant caters to those who love authentic Japanese sushi and to those who enjoys the more American fusion sushi with variety of rolls and everything was amazing. The ambiance was great with a dark setting perfect for dates, professional setting, family gathering, etc. With crisp rice served in four bite sized portion, bao buns split in halves if asked, and rolls you can share and try a variety of dish with everyone :) For a family of four and ordering two alcoholic drinks, the bill was under $100 per person and we were stuffed. We've tried all the high end hotel restaurants on the island and the trending Japanese restaurants but you can get better quality for the better price here hands down. It was so good we ate before we remembered to take any pictures. Definitely coming back here again soon. read more

My wife and I were planning on going to Kauai Sushi Station on our way back to Hanalei, but they were closed for the week. We decided to try Sushi Blue Wave instead and were not disappointed. We got there at 5:03 (3 minutes after they open) and there was already a line of locals outside the restaurant, so we knew that it was going to be good. The place is very nice inside with a friendly staff, clean bathroom, and a great ambience. We got 5 rolls, and they were all delicious- very fresh and the fish melts in your mouth. We highly recommend stopping by this place for a nice dinner and we plan on coming back when we visit the island again. read more

Previous experience was AMAZING, but this time it fell way short. Really bummed because it was an anniversary dinner. Choose to sit at the bar because the sushi chefs are friendly. They did not disappoint, however, the server was hovering and interrupting our conversations and the overall chill vibe. She was not getting our subtle looks and curt responses. Really annoying! Could not wait to get out of there. Another issue was the process of getting seating because of the small receiving area and absence of an online reservation system. There is no way to great customers who are waiting on the sidewalk and exposed to evening sun so no one knows how to get on a list. Not a great way to start the dining experience. Seafood definitely fresh and delicious. Would recommend ordering pick up and save yourself the trouble of being hurried through dinner just so the server can turn tables for a tip. read more
