Came in on a Friday night and was seated immediately, which was a great start. Unfortunately, that was the only smooth part of the experience. After being seated, we waited almost 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us--not even for drinks. We eventually had to flag a server down, only to be told there was a "miscommunication" about who was supposed to take our table. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us were already being served, which was frustrating and confusing. We placed our order and were told we'd receive miso soup and one entrée on the house due to the delay. Our sushi came out fairly quickly, but we never received the two appetizers and the ramen we ordered. When we brought it up, the server said she would check, then came back asking if she even knew who had taken our order. At that point, it was clear there's a serious lack of communication between staff. To make matters worse, no manager ever came by to address the situation or check in on us. The food itself was good, which makes this even more disappointing. However, the service was extremely disorganized and inattentive, and it completely ruined the experience. Amazing place! Went here for a private birthday dinner for a friend and they did amazing! Had a crafted menu, service was great, quick and they were interacting with all of us. Uni Scallop Carpaccio (5/5): My favorite dish of the night - the scallop & uni combo had the perfect smooth bite. Wasn't mushy nor too salty. And I loved the microgreens drenched in the sauce, great touch! Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna (5/5): Perfect amount of crisp, and great fish to rice ratio! VIP Salmon & Sea Bream Nigiri (4/5): Love the thick cut and rice seasoned well. VIP was a little oily but packed great flavor, and the Sea Bream had a nice zest to it! Would def get these two again! Uni Pasta (3/5): I liked the saltiness and extra creaminess from the uni, but this carbonara was way too heavy for me. And I didn't like how thin and fragile the noodles were, would've preferred an udon. Large quantity--great to split between 3+ ppl, but it got very tiring between 2 ppl. Sushi Club is an intimate restaurant that's grand opening was a month ago. In a plaza with ample parking, it was a little hard to find since it was next to a construction site. Upon entering, we were instantly greeted and told we could sit anywhere we wanted. They don't have any wine except for plum wine, so I went to the Total Wine (which is just a few doors down) and got a Sauvignon Blanc. The corkage fee is $10-$15. I ordered lots of small dishes just so I could try a little bit of everything. Everything was good, nothing was great. I was told that the Sushi Club stays open until 10pm which is later than the other sushi places in the area. So I wouldn't drive to this restaurant for sushi, but if I happen to be in the area then I might eat there. read more

came here for lunch. the place looked small on the outside but it could seat about 8 booths worth of people plus the bar. we were the only ones there that day. service was not bad bcos of it. got the lunch combo of beef gyudon w 4 pcs sushi + tuna rolls. I thought all tasted pretty good. the sushi tasted fresh. beef bowl was decent. the best dish by far was the 'uni scallop'. as long as those 2 ingredients were fresh, they were, and drizzled with yuzu made the plate tasted to perfection. this dish was quite expensive, however. we also ordered sweet shrimp. we asked the heads to be fried. however, when the heads came out they were under-fried so the head shell became hard to chew n thus inedible. overall, this place was not cheap but the seafoods tasted fresh which was the most important. read more

Came here to treat myself with after a root canal ---The food was really fresh, tasty and comforting. I started with miso soup and got three rolls. I loved all three! I especially enjoyed the mix of the VIP being savory smokey pepper and then finishing with the the more refreshing and clean Fresh Prince which uses cucumber instead of rice. Wanted to try this new spot that just opened up in Brea next to Barnes and Noble. The decor and ambiance is fantastic. It's a small place but well laid out. I ordered the beef gyudon and a breath of fire roll (shrimp tempura and spicy tuna with jalapeño and sauces). The beef gyudon came with beef and rice separated, along with a salad and miso soup. The beef was overly salty but the texture was great. The salad dressing made the salad inedible for me. Just wasn't good. The breath of fire roll was very nicely plated and had a great presentation. It wasn't as tasty as it looked though. There was a lot of spicy tuna and maybe the tuna wasn't the tasty part? Not really sure but it didn't do it for me. This is what I would normally order at other sushi places and while this had the presentation trophy, it was probably near the bottom of the list for taste. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough for me to come back for it. It's a good roll and I think others would like it but just wasn't my favorite. I know Sushi Club just opened up so they may just need a little time to hone in everything. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have Happy Hour Specials Mon - Thursdays from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Works out perfectly for dinner time. Basically. The best way to really sum up this place is you get to have some of the items you'd normally have to go out to a much more expensive place to get. It's like going to a fancy omakase but without the commitment of 10+ courses, or the price. Instead of dropping $400+ for 2 you're looking at a fraction of the price. We got the truffle tries, VIP roll, and uni pasta. The uni pasta was ok. I've had better uni at other places but it was good enough here to still be enjoyable, but the pasta was a little dry. The truffle fries were also just ok, they came out after the entrees even though they're a starter and were not hot or warm. It seemed like they were sitting for a while before being brought to us. I didn't catch the name/names of our sushi chef but he was great too! I eat a lot of sushi, and actually used to be a server at a restaurant once upon a time. Overall, I thought everything was prepared really well. Rolls: VIPs Only-- really good! It's one of their popular items and I liked it a lot. New Philly-- my fave roll out of the 3 Kiss my Asparagus-- also really good I would get all of these 3 again Lunch Special- Beef Gyudon + Nigiri The bowl was good. Meat was savory and sweet. I usually like to try at least one cooked item so that if I come back I'll know what to get for my kids or I can recommend something for my non-sushi friends. Nigiri was SUPER FRESH. Great texture! Loved it! This was the first time I've had nigri with sprinkle topping. It was good! Not sure what it was though (see my pic). I will definitely come back here and I highly recommend this place. I honestly didn't even realize it was there even after going to this strip mall for my go-to Chick-Fil-A and Total Wine, but wow, was I wrong. We ordered a different assortment of rolls and sushi and plates... all of which tasted average. We walked out feeling hungry. The cost is almost twice as much as other, Korean owned Japanese restaurants in the area. The value is just not there, unfortunately. This place was a Miss for me and I will most likely not be returning. Service was average.
