They're fairly quick and timely. There's also a to-go option if you don't want to wait for the bar. Ambience is clean and efficient. They have limited seating so come early if you can. The hand rolls are ok. Nothing special. Not cheap and quality of the fish are average grade. Ordered omakase special. The sushi chef was nice, friendly and great conversationist. But I went there due to convenience of grocery shopping and stopping by hand roll (especially since it's located inside the market). Basically I could purchased the sushi from the market and plated it myself to service. I would had same quality of sushi. I would save on the mark up and tips. Basically a roll place. Service would be pretty good but ymmv of course. Bang for buck is to get the 6 hand roll but they do offer "omakase" and other rolls. Best to go and take a seat at the bar sometimes if it's the weekend you might have to just get a normal table. It's basically located near the exit of the tokyo central. Ambiance is casual and relaxed. Beer is also perfect to partner with the food. Go to order for us is the 4 handroll special (they use actual crab here) plus an extra bluefin negitoro roll. Comes out to around $25 each and no need to tip lol. Located inside Tokyo Central YL- this place is small and the counter spots fill up fast during dinner. The service is a bit hit or miss and they seem to cycle through workers quite a bit. However the elements of the roll are high quality... nori imported from Japan, fresh cuts of fish and a nice vinegary short grain sushi rice. Who: This place is for anyone who enjoys sushi, particularly in hand roll form. Plus, the cooks were all friendly. When: Last I checked, it's open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with last call at 7:45 p.m. Not convenient if you prefer to have a late evening dinner, but otherwise doable if you plan ahead. Why: Go here if 1) you want tasty hand rolls for a decent price, or 2) you want to order hand rolls to-go and get some grocery shopping done at the same time. Setting: It's essentially a sushi bar with roughly 10 seats, all at the counter. There are tables and chairs beyond the counter, but thats technically not a part of the restaurant and meant for people who buy food from the grocery store. It's otherwise clean and well kept. Food: They offer hand roll sets and a la carte. I chose the hybrid approach, ordering the 4-piece set and a couple a la carte. Every roll (though a little small) was delicious! Drawbacks: 1) Our cook was just a tad slow, and we were a little annoyed when he made rolls for two patrons who arrived after us. But after the first round of rolls, he got into a rhythm and the was able to serve both us and the other group more evenly and quickly. 2) With only 10 seats at the counter and limited operating hours, it's not ideal for large groups or spontaneous visits. Overall: The two quibbles I had were quickly outweighed by the tastiness of the food and the affordability (especially when considering the quality of seafood). Handroll Factory is definitely a place that is much recommended and in my opinion. It has great fish quality picks. The rolls are extremely good that I always want more but I usually stick to the 5 or 6 set and that's good enough with me. The hand roll factory is located inside of Tokyo central, it's very small but always had the quickest service if it's busy. The restroom are near by if need to be used. It's a small bar with a couple seats. If there is no seats available they give you a pager to let you know when to come back. I usually like to go walk around the market and buy some snacks and see what's new as well. Everyone that works at this location is very friendly and welcoming. I appreciate that very much. Now to talk about the rolls. It's the best for in my opinion because everything is so fresh and delicious. Whoever picks out the fish selection does an amazing job, everything tastes great. It's hard to choose a favorite but I would say the salmon, crab, and eel. If I could choose all I would. The crab isn't imitation crab and is actual crab. I recently tried the A5 wagyu and that was also very buttery and melty. I wouldn't get this all the time but it's nice to try if you haven't. Overall the location is in a great spot, love the fact the workers are always great to those that come to visit, you get fresh rolls after your done with your current roll, and that you could go shopping after if needed. The staff are friendly but it's at a slower pace than Americans can be used to. Everything is prepared right in front of you and seating is limited so be prepared to wait if you come at peak dining times. I love Kazunori but live too far to frequent it. We had a hard time finding its location within the store and ended up having to be directed to it. SO, once you've entered the store, go to your left and you'll see it kinda tucked into the corner. Seating is limited to 8 chairs at the sushi bar. You could opt to order "to go" and eat in Tokyo Central's general eating/seating area just a mere few steps away. With the limited seating, the dine in experience allows for more one on one interaction with the sushi chefs. The menu is simple and limited. Only 12 choices, which also includes a couple veggie options. The rolls are good, but there is definitely a higher ratio of rice to fish. They prepare the rolls in intervals, giving you one at a time and waiting to prepare and present the next roll once you've finished the one set before you. This is definitely a different serving style than other sushi places, which tend to bring many dishes out at once. If you're in a time crunch, this is bad. But if you have time to relax, enjoy, and dine instead of scarf it down, this is actually a nice change of pace. Tonight there were 2 people manning the place. Both were friendly and interacted well with each other and their customers. We would come back and would prefer to sit at the sushi bar like we did today. read more

I placed my order and was given a pager while I got some grocery shopping completed. Within fifteen minutes, my pager alerted me that my order was ready for pickup. I usually don't leave reviews, but the experience at this place was so bad that I had to write one. I have been here 1 time before when it first opened, and the food was mediocre. I wanted give this place a 2nd try since I had good handrolls at other places. I came at 1:30 pm, restaurant is small with 10-12 seats, the place was empty, plenty of openings, only 2 other customers already seated. There were 4 workers there. After waiting for 15 minutes, I asked if I sitting down at an empty spot. One of workers (chef) told me I had to wait until her boss seats me. After another 10 mins of standing my knee started to hurt from an previous injury, so I decided to sit a side corner while waiting to be seated. The boss lady told I can't sit there because she was not ready to serve me yet. I told I her I had a bad knee and needed to sit down while I wait. When they were ready to sit inside, the boss lady told me, "No, you are sitting in this corner." I ordered the omakase menu which included 5 special hand rolls. The boss lady was extremely upset and yelled at the staff in the kitchen. There was this one worker who was washing the dishes, and she yelled at him and said: "why are you taking so long to wash these dishes, it should not take this long." She essentially shoo him always and took over his duties and was frustratedly slamming the dishes in the sink. She demanded another worker to quickly dry the wet cups. Then she started to yell at the chef because there were 3 separate serving bottles of green tea, rather than being in one. She started yelling at the chef saying: "you are lazy, you have to stop doing that. I am going to put cameras in here, and make sure you do it correctly." This was unfortunate, because I was getting upset at her for her poor treatment of your staff. The restaurant was not even busy to treat her employees that way. I was glaring at her the whole time and it took away the eating experience at the restaurant. All the other workers and chef were pleasant and nice, I think they knew I was upset and tried give me good customer service by talking to me, asking how the food was, and joking to calm me down. I spoke to the chef and asked: "Is that your boss? If it is, I am sorry, I fell bad for you guys. This brings down the customer dining experience." He just smiled and didn't say anything. Overall, (1) the food continues to be mediocre even with its omasake special; (2) the chef and other staff were great, tried their best to please their customers; (3) the boss lady was the whole reason why I had a horrible customers experience, she yelled, demeaned, micro-managed at her staff in front the customers while eating. Very unprofessional. This restaurant does not want me to come back. I am sorry. I hope this review will make some changes for the benefit of the staff. read more

The person taking our order was visibly upset as I changed my order a few times, but perhaps that's just the culture? It was $19 for 4 hand rolls, and while it was tasty, I'm not sure if it was worth the price tag considering the handrolls made by Tokyo Central cost less and are quicker to get. Impressive! I was very skeptical. I've been to a couple of hand roll places that have folded over the years. Service is good, they explained the cuts from the tuna and the difference in fat from where the cuts are from. I thought the rice and wasabi were notably in a class of their own. Outstanding, damn near perfection. The rice for the negitoro and spicy tuna was darker from the soy sauce/vinegar combination. It was balanced, warm and perfect with the crunch of nori. I tend to prefer sashimi or nigiri to rolls but minced fatty tuna and green onion. *muah - delicious Their togo is dialed in. They separate the nori to keep it crunchy. The criticism I have was that the salmon was lackluster and too cold. I expected it to be room temp and served with warm rice as well. Seating is limited. And I wouldn't say it's a great first date restaurant. But if you don't mind the noise of a supermarket, it's a good after work beer vibe. read more

I tried the bluefin negitiro for the first time, salmon, scallop, & crab. Hubby ordered the negitoro, spicy tuna, bluefin tuna, salmon, & yellowtail. We had Suntory malt to go along with the handrolls. The beer was nice, crisp, & clean. The handrolls were just as good as last time as far as the rice & fresh fish. Seaweed was crispy only if you ate it right away when they served it or it'll quickly become soggy. I honestly noticed that the texture of the seaweed tasting more crispy when it was served in a plastic wrap than when we had it at the bar for some reason. This is the first time in my life I left a restaurant and was still so hungry I had to go get more food. They are severely understaffed. It took way too long to get the rolls. It was one guy making rolls for everyone and I was getting so angry I wanted to leave 20 minutes in but stayed and waited it out. After spending $70 for 3 people (2 of them being kids) we were all still so hungry I went and picked up Chinese food which we ended up devouring. Nestled in the old sake tasting area within Tokyo Central, there's a unique restaurant renowned for its hand rolls. While still fairly new (it's been open about 2 months), they have really captured a market. And we will definitely be coming back on the regular. The concept is pretty simple. They only make hand rolls. You can order them individually or you can order as a package for a slight discount. The packages are as follows: A 3-Hand roll package of 1 Bluefin Tuna, 1 Scallop and 1 Crab for $15. A 4-Hand roll package of those + Yellowtail for $19. A 5- Hand roll package for those + Scallop for $24 and a 6-Hand roll package of those + Eel for $28. Please note that you can not make a substitution in a package. If you order individually, they have all of those plus Bluefin Spicy Tuna, Bluefin Negitoro, Salmon, Squid, Cucumber and Avocado. I got the 4-Hand roll package and my better half had the 5 hand-roll package. We also tried a Bluefin Spicy Tuna and our little guy got an Avocado roll. Everything was delicious but the stand outs for me was the Bluefin Tuna and the Yellowtail. The fish is perfectly fresh but what I think makes it so delicious is the rice; on first glance you might think they are using brown rice, but no! Came on a Friday night & with all the seats filled, the wait was about 20 mins. The rice portion here is more generous than other hand roll spots (usually I still feel a bit hungry but this place was just enough!) though the rice wasn't warm or vinegary, it does balance really well with the seaweed. The seaweed is also warmed/toasted so I think it adds to the overall flavor. I also learned that they make their own soy sauce! I think the fish quality is generally just OK so the seaweed and the rice is what pulled it all together nicely. The crab actually surprised me, don't think it's blue crab but was pretty good and tasted fresh. Place was clean and the place felt cozy and comfy. Also, hubby noticed there's no button for tip so we found out that they have a no tip policy which is a nice break from crazy tipping culture and reminds me of Japan!
