Just moved into the area and was craving some of that take out fish-crack, otherwise known as sushi. Stopped here on a whim, which is totally out of character for me when sushi is on the menu. The interior of the place wasn't the fanciest, but it certainly was clean and well kept, and the help was attentive as soon as I walked in. I was taking out, so I cant honestly judge the service here, although when got home, the food was meticulously packed, and all the utensils and generous portions of accompaniments were in the bag. The tuna was fresh and very dark, and the yellowtail was also tasty. Beef negimaki was a good portion, and the miso soup and side salad were very good as well. For the craving, this definitely put a smile on my face and I felt more than content when I was done. However, 3 stars for the drab interior. read more

I have been coming here for years and with the new owners, I love it even more. We (my fiancé and I) come almost once a week and sit at the sushi bar. The appetizers are wonderful and they always remember that my fiancé is gluten free. Their salads are good, I usually get a green salad that we split and an appetizer that we split also. I have tried many different rolls from simple rolls to chef special rolls and I am never disappointed. This has also become my daughters favorite sushi place too. Their prices are good and their lunch specials are reasonable too. I feel like this is our hidden gem of the neighborhood. Not a fancy place but cozy and I like it that way. Great, cheap sushi spot with friendly attentive service. The decor is nothing fancy, but if I wanted to look at pretty walls I'd go to a museum, not a restaurant. Although simple, the place is also neat and clean, which is more important to me. They have a decent selection of beers and a pretty diverse wine selection. My girlfriend and I usually get the sushi boat for 2, which for $36 brings a boatload of fish. Our one "gripe" would be that dishes which are advertised as spicy (such as the Godzilla roll) are a little on the mild side. Have not been here since it opened yeeeeeaaaars ago! Decided to order delivery through Eat24 with their weekly weekend coupon. Decided to order: Garden salad, Miso soup, Magic fairy roll and Mochi Now, when I think "garden salad", I think "lettuce, tomato, cucumber, maybe some onion, etc". What I received was a little plastic container filled with only spinach leaves and a side of ginger dressing. The menu has a green salad and a garden salad listed so I assumed that the green salad was only lettuce and the garden salad had some extra veggies in their (there's no description of the item on the menu). Only learned the difference because I called the restaurant thinking I received the wrong salad! Plus, the green salad was 2.75 and "garden" salad was 4.00. Minus one star. The miso soup is tasty but there was about one piece of seaweed and one tiny cube of soy...ho hum... minus 0.5 Edamame is good and is what was expected. Magic fairy roll is DELICIOUS and fresh BUT they did not send me any wasabi! minus another 0.5 Perhaps dining there would be a better experience. Salad was just giant pieces of lettuce with 2 shredded pieces of carrot and the dressing tasted like mayo and garlic lol. And the chicken teriyaki was burned on the bottom completely black. I order from here pretty much once a week. I have been living in the area my entire life. I remember coming here in about 2005 and said never again. About 2 years ago, a friend ordered on a whim. I remember enjoying it. Then a year ago, my obsession became really intense. I love poke bowls and I went to a place in Massapequa but it was too out of the way. Then I ordered from a place in Babylon village for some time but it was pricey & they cut the bowl size down & increased their prices so they sadly lost my business. In the meantime, I had from time to time ordered from here enjoying the signature rolls, fried oysters & their amazing spicy dumpling soup. I then really looked at the menu and read: poke bowls. Yesss! I finally have my go to for all my favorites. And they receive a lot of my business. Not only because of the food but sooooo friendly and appreciative OF me being a customer. I placed a delivery order via Seamless tonight at about 715. At 815 it still hasn't arrived yet so I gave the restaurant a call since it was about 30 minutes after the estimated delivery time and I live about a half mile away. The girl who answered the phone advised me that my order had already left the restaurant so I hung up and patiently waited. Fast forward to 845 and I finally see the delivery guy walking up my driveway with my food. As fast as he appeared, he disappeared. I went for the Miso soup first, and the first spoonful I got a mouth full of bland broth and seaweed with steel wool. Did you get your seaweed from the East River. After dumping that down the drain I moved on to my California Roll. It was warm and mushy. Moved on to the Yaki Soba. Meh. Best part of the meal was the edamame. Just now I get home there's hair in the ginger and in my sushi, the guy swears it's not hair is plastic from the container, that's a lie I know what plastic string and hair look like big difference. Then the woman questions why it would be in the ginger and once again whoever the guy was is telling her it's plastic when you can tell she clearly thought it was hair too . She proceeds to repeat to me what he just said and explains they don't have light hair meanwhile there's a girl walking in and out the kitchen with light hair .. then she says it's not like it's grey ... is grey not light ? They used to be good. Food was always fresh, but lately in the last several montgs it's just not. Plus they've made changes to skimp & save, like their Tuna/or Salmon Avacodo salad. They've started chopping it up into kiddie bite sized pieces & drown it in dressing. What are they trying to hide there? The fact that they use half the amount of fish on it now....perhaps it's not as fresh as it should be? I've never seen a sushi restaurant ever serve it like this!!! The last time I ordered several different menu items. It all seemed to taste a bit off to me & had a fishy smell to it. I threw one expensive meal in the garbage! Fresh sushi should never ever smell fishy! Decent quality sushi and price for deer park. Portion and price is more reasonable then the mizuki place. We also tried the Thai food which was served hot and quick. Curry was flavorful. The rolls are creative and most a very good, but the spicy crunchy tuna and salmon rolls are kind of greasy...too much oil in the tempura flakes I guess. I tried eating here a few times the first year they opened, but they always got the order wrong and it always smelled fishy when I went into pick up my order, so I stopped going after about a year. I tried it tonight again. The order was correct and there was no fishy smell in the restaurant, so off to a good start. The miso soup was bland and the fresh salmon in my roll was definitely old; I spit it out and couldn't finish it. The appetizer of salmon avocado salad at every other Japanese restaurant I've been to (and I've been to many) is fresh salmon and avocado pieces over cucumber drizzled with spicy mayo. Their salmon avocado salad is a green salad with salmon and avocado on top drenched in a very hot spicy sauce, so I threw that out too. The shrimp shumai I got for my son was commercial grade, like the microwaveable kind, and the chicken udon for my daughter was so pasty she said she was full after a few bites and pushed it away. I wish I could give them zero stars. We have been going here for years and we never had a problem until recently. They must have had new owners. We ordered take out and it took about 1 1/2 hrs to receive; when they finally delivered it the whole order was wrong. We called and complained and THEY seems annoyed. They said they would fix the order. Well 45 mins later they came with a new order, and guess what it was wrong again! Tonight we gave them one more chance to redeem themselves. We dined in. When we walked in (there were 5 guys behind the sushi bar) they told us to sit anywhere, so we did. We sat there for 20 minutes and NO ONE came to our table not even for a drink order. I've come here several times because my parents seem to like it. I don't know why. The food is fine. That's all I can say about it. It is no better than any other nearby sushi place. I've never hated the food here, but I've never loved it. Every time I've come here I've eaten my fill, but there's a difference between eating and eating something delicious. This place only offers the former, apparently. If I was rating this place on its food alone, I'd give it three stars. Sadly, what stands out here is the service, but not in a good way. Because this place appears to deal primarily with takeout, they don't really take care of their dine-in customers. I always end up waiting a ridiculous amount of time for my order, and the inattentive wait staff never seems to notice when we need a refill of tea or water. I agree with the recent post about the Thai food!! We have been ordering sushi take out from them for years. Most of the time it is good. They recently added a whole separate menu for Thai under the name ( Thai Express). It was GROSS. Not Thai at all. I ordered yellow curry with tofu- was so watery and had no flavor just a whole lot of hot oil. Rice was plain white rice .The Thai iced tea was undrinkable, spring roll with dipping sauce -greasy.So disappointing. Stick to Sushi and you will be happy read more

It had no lemongrass flavor at all, the broth was a bright red, they gave me udon noodles, not rice noodles as it's supposed to have and it contained bell peppers which it's not supposed to have. The first time I dined at Sushi Express I went for lunch with my brother; I had an eel roll and he had a salmon roll. All was well until a few hours later, brother got food poisoning. I decided to give them another shot, dined in with my boyfriend. Food was okay, definitely not better than the other sushi spots out there. I got take out from them just last weekend; 2 california rolls and a shrimp tempura roll. I have never been more sick in my life. Just because food is cooked doesn't mean it isn't contaminated (learned this from a doctor). 3 days later and I am still recuperating.
