Horrible experience and food was terrible. First the waitress kept rushing us to order which was annoying. They forgot to give us menus so we only had about 3-5 minutes to look at the menu (which is a large menu) and then the waitress came back to annoy us about orders. Like chill we didn't even have enough time to review the menu. Secondly the food was terrible. Let's start off with appetizers; oysters. Do not get the oysters. It's definitely no longer fresh. It had that horrible after taste!! Some of the sushi rolls were also terrible. Poke sushi, don't get this dish. Why would you pour poke into sushi by the time you ate the rice got soggy from the wet poke. The bake salmon was salty AF!! The volcano roll was horrible. 80% of it was rice. The sashimi was thank god decent. The rice on nigiri was not well pressed. It was literally squished and slapped a piece of fish on. Overall horrible!!!!!!!!! Honestly thought it would be a good place to eat. But the servers are kind of rude. Didnt get much time to look over the menu to make my full order. The miso soup seems pretty watered down. Didn't get any utensils until I asked. Ended up ordering a tuna hand roll and a kal bi bento box. The food is pretty good but the service is terrible. Maybe is just cause of my age. Or something but it really shouldn't be that bad. The kalbi is very tasty and tender. The tempura is nice and hot. The hand roll was pretty good. It sucks writing a review for take-out sushi. Sushi is not meant to be a take-out food. Sushi should not be eaten from a styrofoam box, no food should be eaten from a styrofoam container; 2020 might be killing Planet Earth just from the amount of styrofoam being used. Okay, aside from the styrofoam and the lack of ambience at my dining room table... The Girlfriend Roll is my go to and my daughter had a vegetarian roll. The take-out price for those two rolls was $33. Pretty pricey even in South Anchorage. The rolls are tasty but mine was super light on the spicy tuna. Not to mention my roll was not tightly rolled and each piece fell apart. I did enjoy my food. Maybe I'm missing the ambiance of the restaurant, having some hot Saké and a beer, friends and sharing food. But, I just couldn't enjoy my roll as much as I would if I was in the restaurant. It's so weird. So, my roll was lacking spicy tuna (as much as I thought should be in there) and the roll wasn't as tightly rolled as it should have been. Stupid COVID. read more

I am appalled at my experience dining here. The food was fine but the service was HORRIBLE!! The waitress after giving serious attitude decided to give herself an $8 tip!! I clearly wrote "0" dollars in the tip section and found an extra $8 tacked onto my debit charges. This is inexcusable behavior. read more

I came in recently with my sister and we got seated near the window. I've been a few times, but it's been a while. From start to finish we got excellent service. The interior is cute and intimate, depending on where you're sitting, and the food is decent but not great. Because there are quite a few places in town that serves similar fare I've become picky. The prices here are much higher than other places, and I don't see much difference in quality. There is a 3 dollar difference between the sushi bento and the sashimi bento, but I can't tell why since you're either getting raw fish with or without rice. Would come again, but I wouldn't seek it out. My sister lives nearby so I would probably come again with her around. read more

Sushi Garden is our go to place when we want to eat sushi. Impressive and quality selection of sushi. The tempura, sashimi and oysters were awesome, too. Delicious and reasonably priced. Their staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The ambiance was comfortable and the personal booths were perfect for a little privacy when you're dining. This is a solid choice if you're looking for sushi/Korean food on the southside. Really friendly and helpful staff. Warm washcloth handed out to start. The food does not disappoint, except I wish there were non-chicken options for the dinner bento boxes. The spicy Korean pork is awesome. Haven't really explored the sushi menu thoroughly but what we had was great. We really liked the semi private booth seating. And they gave us and the kids ice cream, watermelon, cinnamon tea as complimentary dessert. Highly recommend you give it a try! read more

Was super disappointed that the nigiri sushi I ordered (Kani/crab) was NOT real crab, but the imitation one. Yet it was still as expensive as real crab would be. We were hopeful for this place because it's near our house. It's expensive and doesn't taste the best. We had the dinner bento box with sushi and the rainbow roll 2, plus two pairs of tobiko. It was my first time here and all I can say is that it was very delicious! At first they brought a little salad and miso soup. It was great, ordered lobster crunch roll and husband ordered dragon roll. My god we're they both delicious. After our meal they treated us to ginger tea and my one year daughter ice cream. I feel really bad writing bad reviews let alone for this place seeing that they have gotten so many great reviews. I tried Sushi Garden Friday night for the first time after work with one of my girlfriends and sadly to say, TOO much sauce! I ordered my 2 favorite rolls-- the crunch roll and volcano roll. The crunch roll wasnt too bad but the volcano roll was just rediculous. I posted a picture on here of all the sauce on the plate after i removed the sushi and put it onto an empty plate just to show you all. $16 for one roll & the $14 for the other and $8 for a glass of wine & I had no desire to take a to-go box even though I only ate half of my sushi. Same goes for my girlfriend who had the Waikiki Roll & the Volcano Roll as well. She had been there before & said it was better. Being that it was my first time, I was very disappointed. I'll give it maybe one more try & perhaps sit at the bar area?? What I did like about Sushi Garden was the decor & the private side booths. I still prefer Dami & Ronnie's. Sorry! read more

We came at lunch and we were seated immediately at a nice booth near the front. Very intimate setting, the booth backs are quite high, and you can't see the others around you which is kind of nice. The server brought warm towels, and when we let them sit while we looked at menus she scolded us and said "need to use warm towel!" So, we obliged quickly. The prices are high for sushi rolls. Again, coming from AYCE - I can't pay $20 for a single roll, I don't care how good it is. I ordered the lunch special of Mongolian beef (which was still $17.00!) My friend ordered the sesame chicken. We were brought miso soup and salads. It was your average fare. Salad should be more than just lettuce IMO. The waitress was incredibly bossy. On the plus side, the serving size was definitely more of an entree size. My beef was so tender, and delicious. I loved it. I've been searching for good Chinese and this is it. The sesame chicken was crispy and tender, with just the right amount of sauce. When we asked for to go boxes, (because we knew we wouldn't eat it all), the waitress came and grabbed the plate in front of my friend and put it in the box (she wasn't finished) She was going to take mine too and I said NOPE, still eating, thank you! I sat there was another 10 minutes eating while my friend waited with her to go box in the bag on the table!!! It was a pretty surreal experience with the bossy lady waitress. We probably won't go back because of the prices and weird service, but it was great food. read more

Decided to try this place on a whim. It is nice looking from the outside, and very cute inside as well. Service is slow, and the food is nothing remarkable. I had a california hand roll, a dragon roll, and the accompanying salad. It was all just average tasting and very slow service. When I went in I was ravenously hungry and in desperate need of some quick food! I thought I was going to expire before it arrived. When it did arrive, it was quite dissapointing, butI was just to hungry to not finish it. I won't be going back. I've talked to several friends and they all say the same. I really like there hijiki salad appetizer. I usually get it and a plate of mixed tempura items with rice and the miso soup and salad. For an occasional splurge I get the shrimp tempura plate, the shrimp are quite large (6) and if paired with a sushi roll it offsets the $21 price of the tempura. Sushi is good and fresh. Rice bowls for lunch are a good choice. My next try will be one of their noodle soups, which I saw another diner receive and it looked great. Service is generally quick and courteous and they accommodated my take-away very quickly. read more

As many good reviews as I had heard from friends and Yelp, my girlfriend and I decided to give Sushi Garden a try after a number of years away from it. Unfortunately I had the same experience. We will not be back. While our servers were very attentive and our food came quickly, it was lacking the quality I'd hope to find after all these reviews. The soup was lacking flavor and needed soy sauce to make it passable. Our rolls came out with very chewy seaweed in them. When we commented on the chewiness of our rolls, they told us that there was nothing wrong with the seaweed and to have them use Soy paper next time around. Even when I told her that we would not be finishing one of the rolls and showed our server the seaweed that had been spit out she showed no remorse and offered no other suggestions. In our eyes and mouths the seaweed in our rolls, tasted just like the seaweed in the cheapest rolls at Carrs/Safeway. Sorry SG but even with the nice decor, your customer service and food quality are still lacking. We'd hoped to find a good Sushi spot on our side of town, but it looks like we'll be going back to Ronnies after all. read more

we were a table of 4. Half empty restaurant. First server comes to take our order literally 3 minutes after we sat down. I asked if we could order drinks first. She shook her head no and walked away. Different server arrives 1 minute later. We order drinks. She asked for food order. None of us even open a menu yet. She leaves and the first one returns and asks for our order. We tell her the other server got it, and she walks away. Drinks arrive and we order. We say we're going to keep a menu because we will order more (table very small for 4). Food arrives and is average for sushi rolls. They collect empty bottles and plates. Don't ask how things were or if we were done or wanted anything else. First server arrives 2 minutes later and puts down the check walks away. One of us says can we order more? Second server hears as she's walking by and stops, says more what? We decided to get out of there. It all took about 45 mins. So much for visiting w friends from out of town. Never again. read more

This was my first time to Sushi Garden since the ownership changed hands a while ago. I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed. The sushi was fresh & delicious. So good in fact that we ate mostly sashimi/traditional sushi as opposed to special rolls. It is easy to hide mediocre sushi in a fancy roll covered in sauce, but when the sashimi appetizer is so good that you decide to have more sashimi for dinner, you know you're in the right spot. Service was great, & everything we ordered was delicious. My favorites of the evening: hamachi sashimi appetizer & spicy tuna poke. It is great to have a legit sushi spot in south-side. Sushi Gardens has done a complete remodel or their interior and menu, and it is beautiful. However, the menu is quite large (like 30 rolls) and we were asked if we were ready to order about 4 times in three minutes right after being seated. We ordered the Aloha roll and the sushi garden roll. When they were brought to the table we second guessed they were what we ordered because they did not match the description on the menu. Our waitress took them back, then brought us back the same rolls assuring us that they were what we ordered. The rolls looked less than impressive. The sushi garden roll had so much sauce on it that it was really mushy. The aloha roll had lots of mixed up crab on top that was mixed with something like mayo? flavor wise, it was okay, not not that great. The sushi garden roll was probably the worst, and you could bearly chew it. I figured out it was the seaweed in it, and when we mentioned this to the server, she talked to the chefs, then came back and told us that all seaweed was like this and it just turned out that was because of the way the roll was cooked...apparently they somehow cook raw sushi rolls. they were completely unapologetic and we ended up being charge $18 for the nasty thing. My mother and I went out for dinner at Sushi Garden while on vacation, and we were simply blown away by how delicious the sushi was. The salmon teriyaki was superb, the fish supremely fresh and flavorful, and the service absolutely phenomenal. I'd give them no stars but it won't let me. So I'll give 1 for the lady who refilled our water. We tried this restaurant and will never go back. We were seated off on the side, pretty much away from all other diners. The best person that works here is the lady that gives the hot towels and refreshes your water. We placed our order and service started out well. We got our drinks, miso soup, salad and even our sushi in a timely fashion. We watched as 4 tables that arrived after us received their food all of which had a range of diners 2-8, there were only 3 of use. We ordered 2 bento boxes and udon soup. Not too hard to prepare as most required the same type of cooking. We are pretty sure our server didn't put our order in as it took over 50 minutes from placing it to get it. We were just about to walk out after being promised for about 20 minutes that our food was coming. One server, no ours even came to the table and began to rearrange and take my child's plate of sushi , soy sauce and water as she was eating. I had to stop her and tell her how rude it was for her to do that as she was eating her food and to stop touching it. After all of that our food finally came out and we were praying for the best. It was bland, the teriyaki chicken was dry and the gyoza was soggy. There were no apologies but they tried to cover with offering dessert and after refusing they brought it out anyways but we still refused. After that we asked for the check which was brought to us expeditiously and immediately taken. We then sat for another 10 minutes waiting for the receipt to sign only to have the server who took it pass it off to our sever who once again forgot. We signed and left. I recommend that you do not waste you time or money. It was not too busy that night. I don't know the problem but for the price they charge service should not forget about their tables and the food should be a whole lot better. read more
