Sushi Goemon just ruined all other takeout sushi for us. Family-run, incredibly kind, and the sushi is ridiculously good. We finished it yesterday and I'm already craving it again. This is officially our go-to spot off 19th Ave.

I can't believe I've never written a review for this place--it's easily one of my favorite sushi spots in the Sunset! The staff is always so warm and friendly, and the service is consistently quick and efficient. Most importantly, the fish is always incredibly fresh--which, for me, is everything when it comes to sushi. We recently discovered their happy hour menu, and now we're hooked. Their hand rolls are especially a go-to, perfect for an early dinner after work or when we need something quick before heading somewhere else. But I'm a sucker for uni, o toro, amaebi and omakase! Honestly, everything we've ordered has been so fresh and delicious--I've loved it all every single time. If you're in the area, you definitely have to give Goemon a try!

This place has the best happy hour!! Tiffany is a fantastic server. She's so friendly and hospitable. They have happy hour from 430-6 pm. The oysters pictured are on the happy hour menu! They have an extensive saki menu too. Love this spot!

Came here for happy hour. The happy hour handrolls and sashimi were delicious. We also ordered a few rolls and uni gems from the regular menu. The chicken kaarage and cocktails were okay. We ordered 3 cocktails (pink lady, mango, lychee) and the pink lady tasted the best amongst the 3. The restaurant got busy quickly but the food came relatively quickly.

Came here for a couple of date nights and can say this place is such a gem. Super cutty entrance, the kind of place you would walk right by and think nothing of it. the inside opens up to lots of seating in the back behind the sushi bar with a beautiful view of a Japanese garden (not accessible). The staff is super friendly and unbelievably fun, Lily and Kelly will even take shots with you as they share the sake tasting bottles :P Food: we usually order whatever they have on the specials, but something i would order again and again would have to be the Large Hamachi Kama, the romantic roll, toro nigiri topped with uni, and the sake clams! other than that, I leave my night in Lily and Kelly's hands to choose our dinner items that day. The fish is always high quality, and i leave every time with a great dining experience.

Great sushi option and price!! The waitress was super friendly and attentive. Service was also fast! If we lived closer, this would definitely be a regular spot for us!

I've been to Goemon almost 10 years ago when they first opened but haven't been back since I lived back to the Sunset. I came for the happy hour for dinner. The happy hour menu is pretty extensive actually and there are some good deals if you want izakaya food and cheap drinks. I got the kaki fry ($5 HH), negihama roll, umeshiso roll, negitoro handroll, and some nigiri (salmon belly, scallop, amaebi, and aji). The sushi was all really good. I would not recommend the umeshu cocktail though.

Yum! We got 4 fish rolls, romantic roll, rainbow roll, spicy dragon and jalapeno hamachi roll. And they had a thorough vegetarian menu with lots of rolls! We got two of those and they were delicious as well, great for vegetarians. The only complaint I have is that the cucumber salad came after all the sushi was eaten - even though it would have been nice to have it before or even during the sushi.

Tried and true. Great experience everytime I come. The food is tasty and fresh, service is great, and I never need to wait more than 5 mins to be seated. Love this spot!

Tried Sushi Goemon recently and went with the nigiri set. The fish here is undeniably fresh -- clean cuts, great texture, and you can really taste the quality in each piece. Favorites for me were the buttery toro, smoky salmon, and the sweet uni, which all stood out. It did take a little while for the set to arrive, but the staff softened the wait by bringing out complimentary edamame -- a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel more welcoming. Once the sushi hit the table, it was worth the wait. Presentation was elegant without being over the top, and everything tasted as good as it looked. Prices were fair for the quality -- not bargain sushi by any means, but very reasonable given the freshness and variety. Overall, Sushi Goemon is one of those spots that feels like a hidden gem -- patient service, high-quality fish, and the kind of care that makes you want to come back. Definitely a place I'd recommend for anyone looking for sushi that balances quality with value.

This place never misses. There is a wide selection of rolls, sake flights and nigiri. The appetizers are so good and the fish is very fresh. The staff are always so kind and the ambience is very cozy and fun! Definitely my favorite sushi spot in the Sunset.

Came here for dinner the other night for the first time and was really impressed. We ordered miso soup, house salad with yuzu dressing, caterpillar roll, salmon lover roll, salmon citrus roll and the tropical roll. Everything tasted so fresh! Salad mix had a nice crunch, the cherry tomatoes were nice and plump, the avocado was ripe. All the rolls had a nice presentation and was a good ratio of toppings and rice. The fish was really fresh too. I also appreciate that they give both regular and fresh wasabi along with the ginger. It was not that busy when we were there but service was great. They were very attentive and kind. I definitely have to come back to try the omakase. This might be my new favorite sushi spot!

    Diego B.

Don't get fooled by the small entrance. They have a spacious dinning area and even a small garden in the back (not sure if you can eat there, it seemed closed off). Had a couple sushi rolls and they were delicious. Polite service, no complains! Will definitely come back again to try some of their other dishes.

We tried a bunch of different things and I'm glad that we did because the nigiri was not the best thing on the menu. I would come back here for the other things like the box set (otoro, wagyu, uni, ikura). The agedashi tofu was the best I've ever had. The teacup steamed egg was presented well but for the price nothing really that special. I suspect the price is high because of the caviar & ikura. It's not bad, but it takes a while, it's small and not anything that stood out like the agedashi tofu or the other items. The service was really good. They provided a small dessert for us because we were celebrating an event, that was a nice touch. Overall, id come back but maybe not for an omakase or just nigiri.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
