A small shop kind of hidden away, you normally wouldn't think this place is offering much, but I was surprised by the quality of their fish. I didn't order much, but from the 2 rolls that I ordered, they had solid quality and didn't skimp out in favor of putting more rice on the rolls. They were also open pretty late, so a great spot if you need food in a pinch.

Stumbled upon this neighborhood sushi spot on Balboa. We tried the Salmon roll - enjoyed the fish to rice ratio. Rolls had less rice and the sushi was fresh. Chicken teriyaki - large portions. Combo tempura - two pieces each of everything to share (onions, carrots, broccoli, pumpkin and shrimp) Green tea for the table ($5) - came in a French press with real tea leaves Staff friendly and attentive in refilling our water for our tea. We also got complimentary miso soup which was unexpected and a nice touch.

lion king roll, caterpillar roll, & salmon lover roll

I came here on Saturday afternoon for a takeout order. I got the Lion King Roll, Salmon Lover Roll, and Caterpillar Roll. It took around 30 minutes to get my order. I went up to the hostess in the front for pickup, and she checked for my order and handed it. The restaurant was at half capacity since I got there around 4pm. It seems like a nice place, so I definitely want to try dining in next time. The sushi was amazing! The rice was soft, and the fish tasted so fresh. The Lion King Roll was flavorful and creamy. The Caterpillar Roll had the sweet unagi and creamy avocado. The Salmon Lover Roll had the hint of lemon zest that paired well with the salmon and gave it a bit of tartness. This is my new go-to sushi place for quality sushi, especially since it's just walking distance for me. The total was $54.54 which was not bad since it was enough to feed two people!

I treated myself to a solo lunch and sat at the counter close to the sushi chef. This is a local owned sushi restaurant run by a Korean couple so some items off the hot menu are Korean inspired. I felt that the menu itself is a bit pricey, so this is a low 4. For the sashimi combo I received three slices of salmon, two hamachi, and three tuna. The cuts of sashimi were rather thick so I appreciated that. My favorite was the tuna followed by the hamachi. Perilla leaves were used for plating but I really enjoyed pairing it with the hamachi and tuna. I thought the wasabi and ginger were great quality and finished all my ginger. The goma-ae was simple and very bonito forward which I enjoyed. Lastly, the saba nigiri was okay, but perhaps I would get a different nigiri next time. The service was okay, nothing standout. Given that I sat at the counter and alone, I expected more conversation but we didn't have many exchanges.

    Tonkatsu ramen.

Right by the beach, I'm surprised not more people stop in for a bowl of ramen here. With an unassuming storefront, it's a hidden gem in the Richmond District for sure. I spent a lot of time in the Richmond growing up and have been spoiled by the number of Japanese / sushi / ramen options in the area. There was everything from somewhat sketchy family-friendly diners and sushi boat joints to smaller restaurants with sushi counters serving more high end fish. For most of my adult life, I gravitated towards the latter, which refined my taste, but we had to find an in-between option with the kid (a young one who won't appreciate omakase anything). Enter Kazoku. When we first moved back to the Richmond, we tried many similar places up and down Geary and Clement. The ones that were family friendly seemed to compromise on quality. Not Kazoku. This has become our regular joint for the past two years, and we have yet to have a meal that disappoints. The hot food is always good. Tonkatsu ramen with nicely done ramen eggs, generous portions of braised pork belly (could be more tender but still good), kelp, and most importantly, rich, complex tonkatsu broth. So many places serve lackluster broth and call it ramen, and it actually makes me angry. Teriyaki chicken and tonkatsu over rice are always healthy options for the kid. Here, they use fresh meat and ingredients, generous thick cuts, freshly-made sauce. You can just taste the difference. Sushi, sashimi, and rolls at these diners have always been hit or miss but not here. We've tried all the rolls and are consistently impressed with the quality. The one sushi chef here spends a lot of time behind the counter -- even during off hours, I see him there prepping, examining, experimenting, and the end results reflect his passion. The place is cute and clean. Dim w elegant decor and lively enough on a Friday night with a full house and sports on the screen but very family friendly -- there's always a table or two with kids. Service is good. Not extremely personable but very professional and efficient.

Came here for lunch on a late Saturday afternoon. Was seated right away as the restaurant was less than half full. Place was clean, well decorated and well kept. Service was quick and attentive. Each dish we ordered was distinctively different in taste and appearance. Every offering was served at the right temperature, fresh and tasty. We were happy with everything we tried. We do recommend and we will be back.

Nice little sushi spot. Standout was their chicken karaage which come out super hot and crispy. The prices were also fairly big and came with three different dipping sauces. Philly roll was pretty standard Bay bridge roll was good and the jalopeno spice was a nice addition.

Stopped here before a movie at the balboa theater. Walked in without reservations and were treated quickly with the option of sitting wherever we wanted. We sat at a table near the sushi bar where the masters were going to work. They also had a tv playing the football game which I appreciated. The place had a modern feel without being pretentious. We came for soup and ordered a couple starters. The jalapeño bomb was delicious. Just the right amount of heat with the pepper and spicy tuna, and it was covered in sauce which we loved. We also had a tempura shrimp sushi roll. The sushi rice was perfect. It's been a long time since I've had rice that delicious on a roll. I definitely want to come back and try their signature rolls. The soups- which this place might not necessarily be known for- were amazing. My partner for that tonkatsu. The pork belly had a nice charred flavor to it and the broth had a hint of smokiness. It was better than a lot of ramen I've had in the city. I ordered the beef udon. It came in a cast iron pot that it kept it warm my entire meal. The beef was sautéed and full of flavor and the broth was delicious. Service was also great. The meal was coursed out to perfection. They're attentive and professional. Can't wait to come back!

Quality/Quantity - Complimentary miso soup - Good, no tofu pieces. Salmon Teriyaki - Looked more like a Chinese dish than a Japanese dish, see picture. My guest says it is not as good as their competitors. Kazoku Special Roll - This is a hit, I LOVED the crispy green onions on top of this roll! Not a complaint but this roll was bigger than normal, I had a hard time putting an entire piece into my mouth because biting it in half was just too messy. Sake Maki Roll - Good, fresh. But I would have preferred slightly wider slices, especially since their Kazoku Roll was so much more generous. In summary, come here for the sushi. Atmosphere - Small local business. Street parking, but plenty of parking. Open 6 days a week from 5pm to 9pm. Weekends noon to 9pm and closed Mondays. Service - This is where they fell short. It was not bad service, but not good. I/we had to ask for everything; no initiative. Maybe the waitress was new...? Price - $54 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since early 2020, wishing you the best.

Was craving sushi and wanted to try a new place and saw this place on Yelp. We came right when they opened so it wasn't too packed (also a rainy day). Cute interior with tea pots stacked on display on the wall. There's a sushi bar as well where you can kinda see the chef make the sushi. Service was average with our server taking our plates after we finished eating them. 8 piece Sashimi: I was hoping this would have been like their 16 piece I see on Yelp but 2 pieces of each instead. However, we got 4 pieces of salmon and tuna. A little disappointed I didn't get to try their other fish but eh. The sashimi itself is very average. Lacking a lot of flavor that usually shines in salmon. The tuna also felt lack luster and a little dull in color, lacking freshness. The sashimi also had a slight fishy taste to it. 3/5 My Special Roll: Very decadent roll. I like the topped crab, adds a nice texture to the roll. It is a little excessive with how stacked that roll is though. Definitely bang for your buck but overall it's a little bit too much. 3.5/5 Bay Bridge Roll: This was a masterpiece. Really nice touch of ponzu to the fresh hamachi. The jalapeño and spicy tuna added a nice kick to each bite. They also used crab for that slight crunch texture. 5/5 Overall, not a bad experience. If I'm ever in the area, I may come back to try their other rolls.

8 piece sashimi (yellowtail and salmon) ~ $25

While looking for a place to eat in the Richmond District of SF, I found Kazoku Sushi through Yelp. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was empty (initially) except for one table in their outdoor dining area. They only have two tables outside, but plenty indoors. We ordered the 8 pcs sashimi ($25) and chose salmon and yellowtail for the sashimi. The fish was excellent! Soft, buttery, and fresh! Their sushi fish was definitely great quality. We also ordered the 49ers roll ($15), which is crab and avocado on the inside and salmon and lemon slices on top. The 49ers roll was really good! Mainly because the salmon was really good and that alone made the rest of the roll good. Our service was just okay. I wouldn't say it was exceptionally good, just decent. We had to ask for a lot of items, which should have been brought out automatically. Our waitress lacked energy and spilled water all over our table and barely wiped it up. We had to ask her to clean it up a second time and replace our napkins that got soaked. One other thing to note was that they give very little wasabi with the sushi. I had to ask for more wasabi twice, and I could have used more after that. It's okay if dining in because you can keep asking for more, but if you are getting takeout, make sure to ask for extra upfront (if you like wasabi). Overall, in terms of quality of food, Kazuko Sushi is a great sushi restaurant with excellent fish.

    Combo Tempura apt
    James F.

Came on a Saturday at 5pm. No wait. Nice cozy place in the Richmond area. I recommend the following: - Combo Tempura, highly recommend. Some of the best tempura that I ever had. The tempura dipping sauce was amazing too. Very light for something fried - Salmon Roll, spicy and savory - My Special - not my favorite. It had a lot going on unfortunately. The wasabi was good too. Different from the green artificial globs from other restaurants.

    Shrimp Tempura Vegan Roll
    Aditi S.

It's a restaurant in a slow sleepy part of outer Richmond. Cute little place, comes high on recommendation on yelp and google. Ample parking around the block (especially during late dinner hours) it has a unisex bathroom. Clean space, comfy, with warm hospitality. I'll start with my fav part of the place. -I like the shrimp tempura (basic never disappoints) -Vegan roll was pretty good too -Hot sake was pretty good combo Now for the parts I am not giving it 5 stars. -Service was tad bit slow but I am not complaining. You get time to enjoy your dinner at peace. -Baked Sushi was over cooked and if was too cheesy (I am sure someone would love it but sushi and warm cheese and over cooked fish didn't settle with me. -Wasabi was weird. Sushi doesn't go well without wasabi for me. And what they served was rather scoped out of a cold box or something. Didn't taste anything like wasabi. Terrible to be honest. -Complimentary miso soup was way way too salty. (I didn't want to bring it to their attention as they were so sweet but it's definitely worth mentioning) Now will I be back here, maybe not. But I am sure if you read your reviews right and order right, you could have better experience. Thanks guys for everything.

My only critique is the rice. It didn't have that classic premium short-grain sushi rice texture I'm used to. It reminded me a bit more of steamed rice, which took away from an otherwise very enjoyable roll. A special shout-out to Katelyn for her warm and friendly service. Matcha Latte c Pistachio Cream was easily one of the best tasting matcha drinks I have had in SF. The matcha had a strong flavor and the pistachio cream did not overpower the taste of the matcha. There was a nice sweet, slightly salty, and pistachio flavor from the cream and the addition of the crushed pistachios was not a weird texture for the drink. I would definitely be interested in trying more of their matcha beverages due to quality and size of drink compared to cost.

The food was good, although it wasn't quite as memorable as it used to be. The spicy boneless chicken was crispy, juicy, and flavorful, but there was absolutely no spice. I'd rate it 4/5 because if you order something labeled "spicy," you expect at least a little heat! The pork buns were decent. The pork and fresh cucumbers were delicious, but the bun itself was a little leathery. The biggest disappointment was the house hot sake. It tasted different than I remembered, and after pouring our second round, we poured out a fruit fly that had been inside the bottle. That definitely ended our sake for the night. I hope the restaurant inspects bottles before serving them, as that's something that can easily ruin an otherwise enjoyable meal. Despite those issues, the outstanding service is what earned this visit five stars. With a little more spice in the spicy chicken and better quality control on the sake, it'll be easy to make an already good restaurant even better. We'll definitely be back.

During the AAPI Community Celebration - Activate the Best of Clement (05/29/2026, 1:30 PM-4:30 PM),…read morelocal businesses in the Richmond District offered promotional discounts and specials. This was my first time visiting Ramen Kameko on Clement Street. The promotion was $5 Special Ramen (To Go Only) with a choice of Tonkotsu or Shoyu Ramen. I like ramen, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try the restaurant. They were already sold out of the Tonkotsu Ramen, so I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, a soy sauce-based broth topped with one piece of chashu, negi, and kikurage. By the time I ate it, the broth was only lukewarm. I also waited almost 30 minutes just to get the $5 Shoyu Ramen. Had I known it was only a mini-sized portion, I probably would not have waited in line for it. The chashu was okay, but the portion size seemed more like a snack size than a full bowl of ramen. For $5, it felt more like a sample portion. It was almost like eating a mini kids' meal version of ramen. There were only two people handling the promotion. It appeared the chef was preparing the ramen assembly-line style, scooping the soy sauce base into the container and adding hot water before serving. Overall, there wasn't anything particularly special about the promotion other than watching the chef prepare a large number of ramen orders. The $5 price was reasonable, but it felt more like a tasting portion than a full ramen experience.
