I always appreciate a good fish to rice ratio. The sushi chefs are generous here, they don't put too much rice. The bento boxes are also great. I've been here a handful of times, service is always quick and friendly. Ambiance is loud, but you can't beat the view! You get a nice look at the bay while enjoying delicious sushi. Sushi House is located right on the corner and off to the side of the South Shore Center. Although this area / plaza gets a bit busy, there is usually parking. The service gets worse every time, as they do not greet / smile at you or make you feel welcome and they never check on you after you get your food. The server takes awhile to come take your order and your food takes awhile to arrive after ordering, even when they are not that busy, so I started to call ahead for pick up and getting my food to go, so it is quicker. I feel like the price for the portion size of the sushi rolls are generous, as the pieces are huge. My last couple of visits - the sushi tasted a bit off and not as fresh as usual, but it was tolerable - unfortunately, on my very last visit, the salmon did not taste fresh at all, as it tasted super fishy. I ordered an order of each of the Sake Nigiri, Sake Roll, and Sake Temaki Hand Roll (all for about $30). I already left and was hungry, so I still finished it - surprisingly and fortunately, I did not get sick from it. This used to be one of my favorite sushi spots in the Bay for both the quality and quantity, so it is unfortunate that I would most likely not be back again. read more

Delicious food, every thing was very tasty and full of flavor. The lion king roll had a creamy juicy sauce that was just right. Great service and very attentive. I've been coming to sushi house for as long as I can remember. Out in the east bay, there isn't much to rave about, so when you find great food and amazing views, you should hold on tight and never forget it. That's exactly how I feel with sushi house. Food: I got the sushi and sashimi combo which is the perfect deal and portion. It also comes with miso soup to start and salad and rice for the side. The sashimi is extremely fresh with not a single hint of grey and the nigiri is delicious as well. Ambiance: how can you not love a restaurant by the water? Heard good things from family friends, so wanted to bring parents here for dinner. Joined the Yelp waitlist ahead of time since it was the weekend, but didnt get seated until 8:15pm or so; about 40+ mins since joining the waitlist. Still had to wait a while after arrival... Originally wanted a table closer to the water/views, but didnt care at that point since they close at 9pm and we were rushing to order. Kinda hectic environment since they were still pretty busy. Had different staff asking us things (no hellos, just randomly popping up and yelling "HOT TEA?" Or "Did you already order") and not just one specific server servicing our table. Speaking of tables, they were pretty sticky so we were hesitant to put anything on it (ie: our cellphones, etc.) After placing our orders, the Sashimi Moriawase came out first. The sashimi was really good/fresh and our favorite thing here. Definitely started off on a high note (which leads to greater disappointment). Next was the Yosenabe (which was def smaller than other locations) and we werent given any other bowls to share-- had to flag down another server for those. The soup base was just alright; nothing too special. Would recommend if you like a variety of veggies & some seafood/something warm though. For baked rolls, we usually get the Lion King and Bay Scallop Rolls. Pretty standard as other places. We actually didnt even touch the Lion King as we over-ordered and just took it to go. Here comes one of the main reasons for the 3-star rating: The Bento. $30 for 6 California Rolls, Tuna Sashimi (choose 2 items), Tempura, One Potato Croquette, and a slice of Honeydew + "soup, salad & rice". Which sounds like a good deal in retrospect-- EXCEPT we were never given the soup nor salad. Something felt missing when the server randomly placed the tempura sauce on the other end of the table without explanation. At the time, I remember reading about the soup & salad while ordering, but because they were closing soon by the time we got the bento (8:50 pm)...I didnt question it. Honestly feel jipped though considering the service was also pretty subpar. The tables were already small enough and the server just walked past the empty Yosenabe Pot multiple times until we asked him to take it away. All in all, still glad we got to try this place and enjoy good sashimi, but I agree with other reviews saying "decent food, poor service". read more

Food: We ordered the 3 item lunch bento (Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon Teriyaki and Yakiniku), Island Roll and Lion King Roll. These items are our "must order" dishes. We love the lunch bento. It comes with soup, salad and rice. It's a very good deal. The 2 rolls are our favorite rolls. The rolls are pretty big and they taste so good each time! I've been going to this restaurant for many years. The food is delicious! You get a nice view of the beach. It is always packed, especially on the weekends. The serving portions here are massive! Good value! I came here solo for lunch on a Sunday. The place was packed, and my wait was roughly 5 minutes. I got a veggie tempura appetizer portion with A LOT of different veggies and tofu - super worth it. I also got standard miso soup. And I got a samurai roll with sake instead of the tuna - which was HUGE and delicious. The service was so so today, maybe because they were pretty busy and seemed understaffed. It took almost one hour from the time we walked in the door to get our food to us. The sushi roll was loose and fell apart as we ate it. The tempura is the bento box was tasty, it comes with a variety of vegetables and one shrimp. Our toddler liked the New York hand roll, it was gone in the blink of an eye. This visit was to celebrate my niece's first big job offer. Food was pricey but fine. Nothing exceptional. Edited to clarify that the Yelp waitlist was down when we arrived so they had a few groups sign up on paper. But this waitlist system was managed weirdly so there was a paper list and the Yelp waitlist going at the same time. We got overlooked for seating because we put down our name on the paper waitlist while the Yelp waitlist was down, but no one thought to add us back on the Yelp waitlist when it started working again and it was only after we asked what's going on that we finally got seated. Took off a star for this. Also, an employee ran into my niece's ankle with a service cart so hard that she actually yelped and has a bruise as a result. The restaurant barely offered an apology, and it was only after I raised it as an issue. It's not like we were seeking to get our meal comped, but they brought the manager out and he didn't do anything except bring a bag of ice for my niece's ankle when we asked for it instead of offering it. In other words, we had to ask for help or resolution instead of having it proactively provided to us. My family has been going here for many years and this place is always busy so they probably calculated that it was not worth expending any effort toward customer service for one group of customers. Took off two stars for this. I still tipped 18% on a $160+ bill (which I regret in retrospect), but this experience was super disappointing and I am going to avoid spending our $$$ here in the future since there are other nearby options on the island. read more

I was extremely disappointed on my most recent trip here 9/13. A third of the Sashimi boat was not fresh. Just awful and not sure they should keep serving it. Tried to tell the waitress who seemed indifferent but said she would take it off but advised the replacement would have the same issue because it's all from the same batch. There was no manager on staff as we were there at 1:30 for a late lunch. I can handle bad or slow service but not spoiled fish. What happened here? I finally gave this restaurant a try after seeing it packed whenever I am in the area! During peak hours, this restaurant can have a long waiting line. We went here for a very late lunch and we still had to wait about 20 minutes, and that is for very good reasons. Sushi with an ocean view? Why not? This restaurant has a variety of sushi options, bento boxes, rice plates, and more! And for really good price too! AND the serving sizes are HUGE. We ordered the Caterpillar Sushi, Lion King, and the Chicken Katsu plate. We were all satisfied with the taste. As you can see from the pictures, these portions were huge so we had to take some home. The restaurant can be busy, so servers may take awhile to get to you with water refills and other needs. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Whatsup with the sushi chefs here nowadays? There were plastic wrap imbedded into our rolls today. We came here to celebrate Father's Day and this mistake they have made, made our days terrible. When you come in, you aren't always greeted, but it depends on who is working. The same people who greet are always smiling and on top of their hosting duties! Some servers are meh, while there are a few who are AWESOME and when I say awesome, I mean it! They check to see if you need more water, even if they have tons of tables. How they interact with all is seamless and inviting. They give suggestions if you ask and don't shrug. Love that, but don't always get it. While the ambiance is relaxing and there's ample space now compared to the original location from over 20 years ago. The quality of food is decent, however, there are several different competing options in Alameda that have better service. Ultimately, you're paying for the gorgeous water view. Is it worth it? Ordered the cruise ship. 68 pieces of sashimi, 4 rolls, 24 pieces of nigiri came in it. For $280 plus tax. This used to be a value of like 16 rolls and maybe double the nigiri with the same amount of sashimi but looking at it now, it likely would have been cheaper if i ordered these items individually. The quality has gone down substantially as well. The fish was very lukewarm as many have said and is unbelievably overpriced for the quality.
