Dramatic Flaming Sushi Roll YUMMY

Update: Sushi Chef Jae has a place in my heart when it comes to his sushi creations. from perfect miso soup to the original Super Rainbow to impeccable Tempura, and the fascinating Flaming Roll to highlight a few of our favorites! Jae & his crew are super welcoming, happy to see us & it's mutual. We know we will be delighted with the extensive array of authentic & unbeatable offerings. The food is thoughtfully prepared using only the freshest ingredients. Jae knows what he's doing, making grateful customers for life! Each visit brings smiles & moans of delight. Thank you, Jae! very satisfying

Friendly staff, great rolls, average price. Their Super Paradise was very tasty as was the Philadelphia roll & the spicy tuna roll. The staff were very attentive and got us in and out quickly. The place is nice, dark, and quiet. I'd call it "cozy". I'd come back again to this neighborhood restaurant.

The few times I've dined here, it's always been good service and delicious sushi. Most recently I ordered a roll and the chef's selection and the hamachi was buttery soft (not pictured). I also bring my kids as one enjoys vegetarian "sushi" and the other finds something to eat like noodles. Would recommend this sushi joint tucked away in a nondescript shopping center.

Really good experience here. Small, simple little sushi spot with exceptional service. All of the servers were incredibly friendly and attentive. Good was good & fast and the presentation was nice. I would skip the beef teriyaki, was super tough meat to chew.

Sushi Jae deserves to be way busier than they are! We visited on a Tuesday evening and were the only customers inside during our meal. The chefs were busy nearly the whole time however, apparently preparing online orders. Still, the service was friendly and rolls came out quickly. Our server mentioned that they are much busier on weekends but I was still surprised with how empty they were at dinner time on a weekday. It must be because the outside appearance makes it seem like a hole in the wall despite that they're able to accommodate a decent amount of diners inside. The fish was fresh and every roll was well-prepared. As far as sushi goes, the pricing was about what you can expect in San Jose, not a great value but not too bad either. I can definitely recommend this place to satisfy a sushi craving.

Was craving sushi on a Friday evening and stumbled across Sushi Jae! We started with their agedashi tofu, which was solid. We got Mango Crazy, Super Paradise, and Spider rolls. Their rolls seem to be smaller than rolls at other restaurants. The Mango Crazy and Super Paradise rolls were alright, nothing too special about them. The Spider roll was yummy; I loved the soft-shell crab. Service was good and attentive.

I forgot to take more photos.. we additionally ordered mixed tempura and sushi/sashimi combo. 3.5 stars** The service here is top tier and always made sure you had everything you need. I used to come here a lot during my college days back in 2016-2018. I don't live around the area, but the food was always good here. As most reviews noted- the portion is definitely smaller here compared to other sushi places. I definitely agree! However, the fish here is super fresh and my all time favorite is the lion king roll here. We also wanted to add additional a la carte toro, chu toro or uni... waitress said they were all out of it... :(

Ordered online for takeout, and the food wasn't ready when we got there because it was fairly busy in the restaurant. The staff was very kind and communicative, and offered tea and water while we waited. Took a little under 10 minutes for the order to come out. The sushi wasn't the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst! The raw fish was decent, and the specialty rolls are unique, especially the Super Rainbow Roll. Portions are a little small, but we were satisfied. I didn't get a picture of the udon, but we got that too and it was piping hot and delicious! I would definitely come back to try more, and am impressed by the customer service.

I've been here twice so far with my family. Last time we came here was a few days ago for a birthday celebration where we ordered: Spider Roll (5/5) Rainbow Roll 2x (5/5) Super Rainbow Roll (5/5) --The deep fried scallops were sweet and tender, and the crunch contrasted well with the roll. Unanimously the best roll of the night. Super Paradise Roll (5/5) -- Mom ordered this, but subbed the spicy tuna for regular tuna and sauce on the side. It definitely needs the sauce or the roll is too dry. Orange Blossom Roll (5/5) -- Didn't try, but my brother enjoyed it. Fire Crunch Roll (4/5) --Tasted strongly of wasabi, so every other ingredient is overpowered by this. The sweet potato crunch also didn't really add anything to the roll. Unagi Don (3.5/5) --Similar to any other place that offers unagi don. Healthy portion, but sauce was too sweet. Chicken Teriyaki Don (3.5/5) --^^ Chirashi (5/5) Sashimi Combo (5/5) Staff were friendly, patient, and accommodating. Go for the sushi, nothing else. Only downside is that the portions are on the smaller side.

The food was super tasty and great! The staff's service was amazing! The staff were super attentive and friendly and were able to accommodate our party of 6 very well. The restaurant is super well lit and is the perfect place to have a family dinner or hang out with a group of friends. Special shout out to Sang Woo who gave us amazing service!

Simple menu.

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.

A waitress there had told me there would be a $7 charge to do that and I paid anyway, but a waiter from our most recent visit assured us there's no charge to mix broths and that there may have been a miscommunication. Glad I asked! We always order 2 sumos: Black Angus Prime Ribeye and the Premium American Kobe Beef but we decided we love the Kobe beef more and would stick to that moving forward as it is more marbled and tastes fattier. Don't forget to ask them for the spicy drops if you also love spicy! This continues to be our favorite place for shabu.

I'm not the biggest shabu shabu fan and One Pot isn't going to change that…read more My group ordered the angus ribeye and lamb entrees, the mushroom platter, and two of the rice beer pilsners. Food quality is good, all the veggies and meat were fresh. They sadly didn't have enoki mushrooms, but they had shiitake and some others so that was fine. The beers were very refreshing and light, sort of like if cheap American beer was made to actually taste good. Like imagine Budweiser without the hint of cigarette filters and moldy socks. Especially on a hot day this was very nice. Service was fast and the servers were very nice, coming by many times to check on us and promptly refilling. Although the restaurant was pretty empty at 5 pm on a Saturday, not too surprising as it was a while before the dinner rush I guess. So... why 3 stars? It all comes down to the flavorless broth and sauce that seems to be de rigueur for shabu shabu. We tried both the "original" soy/seaweed flavor, which just tastes like water, and garlic miso, which has a very mild flavor. And then we used the two dipping sauces which I are a creamy sesame and I guess a ponzu, which I added some green onion and garlic to. The combination of the very light broths and the very light sauces is... very light. I guess someone might say you "taste the ingredients" more compared to the vastly superior hot pot where you add some flavor via the cooking medium and have a wide variety of flavorful ingredients to make a customized sauce. I can somewhat understand the perspective of wanting to mostly taste the flavors of the raw ingredients... but I don't agree with it. To me shabu shabu is basically hot pot minus flavor, and hence kind of a waste. I will say, pricing is relatively good here. Our bill was under $150 for a ton of food with everyone feeling very full. The restaurant itself is very clean and they have a large and convenient parking lot. If only it was a hot pot restaurant it definitely had all the ingredients for a 5 star review.

Everything was courteous and polite and welcoming. The food was not bad either. The Volcano Roll was a new item for us and it was kid-approved instantly. I also got the Warriors Roll and the waitress suggested the Dragon Roll after I decided on eel and not shrimp. The prices are reasonable as well. I took out some points because of the strong soy sauce smell when entering the restaurant. The decoration is not fancy but slightly run down. I always get worried ordering this at new sushi spots because I feel like it can be a hit or miss (especially when they load waaay too much spicy mayo on it lol) - this roll had the perfect amount where it wasn't too overpowering.
