You must check out this hidden gem when in Big Sur! We loved the food so much that we dined here 2 nights in a row. Some of our favorites were the hamachi hand roll, seaweed salad, and the Dat Jawn and West Coast poke bowls. Fresh fish, generous portions, and an amazing chef!

Sushi Jawn is top tier sushi in an unexpected place. If you like sushi and for some reason you are in Big Sur on a Friday or Saturday, you need to check it out. The prices in Big Sur are high in general and this place is no exception, but here you will also get an exceptional meal. For pairing, the nearby camp store conveniently sells sake and beer.

Spent my boyfriend & I's anniversary in Big Sur this past week & stumbled across Sushi Jawn in the Riverside Campground. We decided to order the East Coast Poke & Ahi Tuna Nigiri which was a solid 10/10. The fish was fresh & had so much flavor! I usually dont post reviews, but the sushi was so good that I felt the need to. We are already craving it again & will definitley be back next year!

Our server James was amazing. He had great knowledge of the menu and recommended a sushi roll they had on special. He was even super cool with my dog, Cash. I had the Tuna Togarashi roll, along with some nigiri. Sushi was delicious, and it tasted fresh. My boy Cash had the chicken & rice bowl off their dog menu. He scarfed it down in seconds! I was expecting a generic sushi experience, but got great food, impeccable service, all while sitting in a beautiful patio area. I will definitely be back in the near future, and so will Cash!

We've made reservations through OpenTable both times and have been seated quickly. We started with a salad, edamame, and cocktails while enjoying the beautiful setting. Our server was attentive, and the service throughout the meal was great. I ordered the Tuna Togarashi roll, which had shrimp tempura, avocado, and snow crab on the inside, topped with tuna togarashi, unagi sauce, and green onions. It was absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. My husband is vegan and tried the shiitake mushroom and kappa maki rolls. While they were fairly basic veggie rolls, they were good and met his needs nicely. Overall, Toro is a great spot for fresh sushi, attentive service, and a relaxing atmosphere. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Carmel!

The remoteness of this place just adds to the magic. The menu reads like a love letter to Big Sur. Fish so fresh and delicate it feels like it still remembers the ocean. Herbal touches pulled straight from their garden. Service that's warm, and personal. You can hear the waves breathing below you, and the occasional exhale from someone tasting something extraordinary. As the sky shifts from blue to lavender, everything takes on a dreamlike quality. Things to know: Located at Treebones. Two nightly seatings at 5pm & 7pm. Prepaid - $160 per person. Closed Sun-Mon. With only eight seats, reservations book far in advance so plan ahead. Opening in late 2024, Maido is a Japanese owned and operated Japanese cafe which is very rare these days. They serve poke bowls, sushi, and matcha. They also have a little corner with Japanese snacks and candies. We walked in and there was a table of Japanese speaking customers...GREEN FLAG! Order was double checked, chopsticks, napkins, wasabi, ginger, all the sauces were packed nicely Order was prepared in about 18 minutes, which was 2 mins faster than the expected 20 mins. Perfect! 2. Hot Food - Chicken Katsu, Salmon Bento box - Both were huge, cooked well, and held up on our walk back to our hotel where we ate on the patio. Expect being full!!!! 3. Salmon Salad - Solid set of lettuce and a generous portion of fresh salmon, highly recommend if you like fresh greens + salmon 4. Side Salad - Not only a solid serving of greens, but cherry tomatoes, broccoli, and a bunch of other nice finds completed the salad Room for improvement: 1. Chirashi - Rice was bland and the cuts of fish were 1/4" thick, which is not a great way to enjoy sashimi 2. Sushi Dinner - Overall, solid, except for the hamachi. It was rancid. I hope this was a one off. NOTE - The CA Roll and other fish were fine, but the hamachi had gone bad Overall, I'd go back, but focus on the hot food.
