Wow this had to be my worst experience with sushi. What's sad is I had been to Sushi Ko many years ago and it was good. So let's start with our server didn't provide plates, nor soy sauce, sauce dishes. Of course I asked but I had to ask for all after she dropped the food and was walking away. Then my salad was in a soup of ginger dressing. The food presentation was very sloppy and kinda gross. I must say it was very unappetizing. I've been a Sushi Ko supporter since 2001, however, after my last visit months back I can no longer support the place. They raised the prices an astonishing 40% and reduced the portions 50%. In their dreams this would work, but in reality it doesn't. We were hit with $18-$20 rolls which were $10-$11 before, since we unfortunately went straight to order as usual and didn't need to read the menu, where the new super high prices were noted. I ordered the Big Mac roll and one literally couldn't find the tuna on the roll. When I shared my feedback with the Sushi Bar Chef (I believe he is now part owner) he started talking about the higher inventory costs and how it was either having these crazy new prices or closing the doors of the restaurant. I understand the predicament, however, I don't believe that their solution to that problem was reasonable. You don't offer an extremely poor product at an extremely high price to keep the doors open. Pleasantly satisfied with my meal. And very satisfied with the service. We ordered the 69 roll, the screaming orgasm, the Arizona and for the last roll we were allowed to custom order to our liking. I will admit I've been to better places but one thing I appreciate from restaurants are the service and this is why I see myself returning here. Good food, great service and great company. TLDR - I hate talking badly about a restaurant, but there's room for improvement here I was craving a sushi/sashimi dinner when I came in, but decided not to when I sat at the bar in front of the display. The salmon had some weird stuff over it (not part of the salmon, just kinda looked like stuff from something else left on top of it), and the tuna wasn't the best of colors. But no worries, I went with the chicken katsu. Just some breaded chicken cutlet and some rice on the side, a standard salad to start. Without being too critical, the chicken didn't taste the best, and the salad bowl was half filled with water, presumably from the lettuce I guess. I didn't want to cause a fuss and return anything, especially cuz the main entree wasn't necessarily bad. What I really was bothered by though was the chef kept wiping his bare hands on his shirt and then making sushi. I know not all Japanese restaurants make the chefs wear plastic gloves and traditionally, they don't, but the combination of sweat wiping and the unappealing display was a bad look. read more

Nice decor but the sushi just doesn't deliver. It tastes like something that came from target or Publix and not a professional sushi place. On top of that the prices were high even for these inflation crazy times. On top of THAT most of the items had silly names that made selecting what we wanted very difficult. I lived in Japan for many years. While nothing compares to the sushi in Japan, Sushi Ko is a close second. Bad reviewers simple have no clue what good sushi tastes like. If plastic Publix tickles your fancy, that's fine. Hey some people's idea of fine wine is a can of Four Loko. Just don't bring your plastic box of Publix sushi and can of Four Loko into my favorite Japanese Izakaya, and say the food is bad, it shows no class. read more

While we were visiting Miami we paid a visit to one of my old favourites. We hadn't been to Sushi Ko in nearly a decade. Although it had change ownership the vibe hadn't changed. I did miss that they didn't serve natto or tuna yamakake anymore however the sashimi was amazing. The owner, Yuki was very accommodating as were the staff. We were lucky enough to sample a fresh delivery of otoro (the wagu of tuna), and my personal favorite uni. What a fantastic lunch we had paired with a large bottle of cold Kirin Ichiban beer. Sushi Ko, exceeded our expectations and we hope we are lucky enough to visit again sooner than later. read more

We've been going there for some time, as one of our friends introduced us to them The first times we really liked it, the food quality is good. Yet I don't think we will be going back there for a while after yesterday's ripoff. I ordered as I always do at Japanese restaurant assorted nigiris. We did order "toro" which my wife loves and we are aware its expensive ($7.00 per piece), so that wasn't the problem, besides it was really good. The problem was when I saw the bill for my 2 uni (sea orchard) where we were charged $12.00 PER piece. Never in my life have I paid so much for uni, neither is it the type of place where you expect to be charged that much. Just to give you an idea, their sashimi appetizer is $11.00 so it was quite confusing, when a piece of sea orchard costs more than 9 pieces of sashimi. Was the uni good? Sure it was. I did ask our waiterss the motive for the price of the uni. At first she seemed to have no idea. Then she came back (not the manager, as perhaps we would have expected) telling us it was "Japanese Uni". Had I known that they had brought that delicacy directly from the country of the rising sun, over 7 thousand miles away (yet as fresh to charge $12.00 per piece) I probably would have ordered one and enjoyed it by parts as I tricked my mind into traveling there with a Sapporo in my hand. Good thing I didn't order 5, as I have before at other places. I'm in the restaurant business, and I get the upselling part and the cost of quality ingredients, I truly get it. But you need your staff to inform or at least give your guests a hint that what they are ordering so it's not an unpleasant surprise that will back fire on you, like it happened with us. It runs everything. Perhaps the waitress could of told us as we were ordering: " ... the uni we have today is our special Japanese uni, by the way ...". Then I would have understood what I was getting into, and once again, I probably would have ordered it anyways. Anyways we still got bitter taste and it's going to be a while until we go back. i've been coming here since i was a kid, i don't go as often as i'd like so we finally went for dinner once i started yelling and had to write a review for them. Service is always so nice, i regret not getting our waitresses name because she was just so sweet and kind. The food came out quickly the only thing i didn't like was that their miso soup is pure broth, i asked the waitress if they could add more tofu / leaves because i had so little, but she said that's how they come- so just an FYI it's pretty much all broth- other than that we ordered sushi and it was delicious. read more

Drive by this spot all the time and I did not know there was a full blown Japanese restaurant there. What a wonderful surprise. Sushi Ko has all the traditional Japanese favorites like stir fry, teriyaki and other favorites. They even have ramen. But the real reason we were there was because if the sushi. It did not disappoint! They have an eclectic sushi menu with some really neat creations that are fresh and delicious. Everything we had was top notch. The tempura was light, crispy and delicious. All the sushi we ordered was extremely fresh and with yummy textures and flavor combinations. To top off a great meal they even have us Thai donuts in the house. This place was OK for sushi. I didn't see it as outstanding when taking into consideration the food quality with the prices. I ordered the tuna tartar and felt disappointed with my plate. This place is definitely a hidden gem, BUT you have to know what to expect/order. For instance, don't expect their side ginger salad to be 5 stars. It's practically bagged lettuce with a ginger dressing (which is good), but there have been times where the salad gets too watery at the bottom and it becomes unpleasant to eat. My mom and I love this place and frequently go whenever I'm in town. I usually order their morimaki combo that comes with a good amount of sushi for $15. The sushi quality is somewhere between Publix sushi and good quality sushi, which is great for the price. I also tried the eel hand roll once and it was delicious. We've had their yakisoba noddles and were pleased with the taste and veggies. Overall, you kind of have to do some trial and error to figure out what sushi or dish you'll like from this place, but once you pass that hurdle, it's pretty good. read more

My top favorite rolls: Kiko, Fox, Oh my ga, Mr. 305, Big Mac dragon. I always order the Uzukuri white fish. The gyoza's here are always my favorite and cooked to perfection. I absolutely love this place!. I live in the area and can choose to pass it on my way home. I usually stop in 2 times a week so they know be my name. I vary between picking up to enjoy at home or eating in. The environment varies. Sometimes it is super packed and other times I am the only one eating/picking up. The service either way is always quick and up until now, they have never gotten my order wrong - I am talking about a good 30 orders or so. Considering I do not eat poultry or beef, sushi is my favorite way to eat seafood. At Sushi Ko the sushi is always fresh, prepared perfectly (bites not too big or too small). I usually get the Kiko roll (no sauce) and the big mac roll. Sometimes I will get the Tuna Tetaki. Although, I have tried pretty much everything on the menu by either ordering it myself or picking off the place of my guest - EVERYTHING is awesome! I will be a long time Sushi Ko customer, even though I will not be in that area for too much longer I will still make the drive at least 2 times a month whenever I need to scratch the Sushi itch which only Sushi Ko does for me. I can't believe that I have lived in Miami practically my whole life and this weekend was my first dinning experience at Sushi Ko. Staff is friendly and welcoming from the minute you step foot in the restaurant. My boyfriend and I sat at the sushi bar to enjoy the chef's sushi tasting menu of the day (this is all off the menu, a little risky for some but well worth the culinary adventure). All you have to do is let the chef know if you are opposed to any type of sea critter and he will take care of the rest. They also have a rather large selection of Saki for any Saki lovers! This place has been a staple in Miami definitely, it has been on business for over 15 years. But the rolls I tried, seemed a creation of the chef, it was a bit too much of ingredients combined for my taste. Rolls have mayo, kimchee, tempura... too much involved in one small roll.
