Came here for takeout twice, i love their special rolls and sets they put on their menu. Most sushi places have some variation of it, but I feel like there are some choices that I don't really see often that really call to me! The quality is pretty good- we usually end up coming at the latest hour for as a late minute decision for take out, but I'd love to come and sit inside one day when we have time :) Theres a lot of street parking nearby and its close to the train station. I need to come to this place more often. Always great and friendly service, high quality food, and so reasonably priced for Montclair. I started with a house salad with a very generous portion of ginger dressing - it's so nice to have dressing served in a small non-plastic single use container - I'm hoping more restaurants will return to doing so. The naruto rice-free roll (combo of 4 fish, crab and avocado) wrapped in cucumber with sunomono sauce is great for anyone limiting carbs but also a very refreshing and light combination. I ended with as usual great and and authentic bibimbap, requesting a raw versus fried egg, and they were very accommodating. Tried Sushi Koshi for the first time after living in the area for nearly two years. It's a really small restaurant in the strip of Watchung Plaza - there's a little sushi counter area and then a small room attached with a handful of tables. We came pretty close to closing and they sat us anyway and were really nice. We ordered a few pieces, miso soup, and some sushi rolls. We loved that the sushi pieces came with some tiny toppings and a little seasoning on it - so good. We ordered some normal rolls and some special rolls and the special rolls which are usually too much and too heavy on the sauce for me were delicious and light and so yummy. The sushi rice was definitely fresh and room temperature even though it was the end of the night. We will definitely be back!! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in all of the tri-state area. Last December a friend took me here and I've been here at least six times since then... each time it gets better and better. The owner, Jay, is a brilliant sushi chef and the customer service, Ellie, is so warm and friendly! It always feels like home. Now for the FOOD. The lunch specials are so worth it but I really come here for the amazingly fresh and delicious sushi. I ALWAYS get the T.G.I.F roll- Jay knows exactly how to sear crab and salmon- and the seared sushi appetizer is so perfectly cooked. I 100% recommend the mixed rice instead of just white rice. It gives the sushi another element of flavor and it's healthier to boot! My other favorites are the special avocado bake appetizer with seared crab (omg it's so good), the OMG roll, and my boyfriend loves the tempura rolls and anything else seared. The Bulgogi was flavorful but not too sauces, even the vegetables were edible and fantastic. Get mango mochi for dessert!!!! I recommend it this place whole heartedly. read more

I was in here yesterday and I just feel like I need to put in my input. While the food was amazing the service was less then adequate. After receiving are order we realized there was miscommunication in one of the dishes which is totally fine but when we addressed it the server became passive aggressive. While we were polite the whole time it felt like our server was becoming annoyed with us. At one point we heard her say in annoyed tone "these girls". The "Roll for Two" deal is perfect with 5 total rolls- California, Spicy Tuna, Eel, Shrimp Tempura AND a special roll (which already costs about half of that) for $29.99. We ordered an extra special roll, and that was the perfect amount for two people. The meal came with Miso soup, complimentary sushi piece, and mochi for dessert. My brother and his wife introduced me to Sushi Koshi 2 years ago and we all agree that it's (still) the best sushi in Montclair. I do wish they had more special rolls without fried shrimp, but the combinations are so tasty regardless and the sushi always tastes fresh. The people who run the place are sweet and often give out free rolls. The only downside is that you might wait a while if you do takeout -- but that definitely hasn't stopped me from coming back. read more
