We came here again for a celebratory dinner with the family. The drinks, sashimi and sushi were first class fantastic with toro, tuna and salmon sashimi! Premium grade sashimi!!! Yum! We had special rolls like chuck norris, tsunami and firecracker rolls! Again, some of the best rolls in north county!!! The beer was cold and the house nigiri sake was amazing. It wasn't too busy at all, only a few people, so I was surprised. It was a lot, but the sauce was pretty bland and flavorless. Ended up adding soy sauce to it to give it more flavor. I probably wouldn't get it again. Their lunch special is a good deal getting two full rolls and a miso soup for between $16-$18. I split this with my boyfriend, and our server was really nice and gave us two miso soups. One of the more flavorful miso soups I've had. We got the caterpillar and spider roll. Both of them were good. The spider roll was rolled in rice paper on the outside. I liked the Caterpillar roll more but was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of avocado. I definitely want to come back to try the other rolls. read more

Teriyaki Chicken in bento box was over cooked. I noticed the boxes were much smaller than last time I was here. I only got five pieces of chicken. The crunchy roll and shrimp tempura roll. I also order Lazy Chef under specialty roll and mixed tempura with shrimp and veggies. The lunch special came with a bowl of soup. The miso soup was super salty and undrinkable. The best roll was the lazy chef. It was deep fried with eel, salmon, avocado and imitation crab. I came here on a rainy day. They were short staffed and it took them a good while to get back to take my order. I had to get up twice and ask for a server to come out. I came here twice recently, one for their anniversary and another time. The first time I came with my mom was during the anniversary and they were celebrating by giving out custom wooden chopsticks to customers, which I thought was a very nice gesture by them!! Both times I walked into this place, I was also greeted by the employees and the service overall I would say is amazing as well! They also take reservation, so the second time I went I called in for one the same day that I went and they were very accommodating. As for the food, my favorites are the pacific oysters, fried calamari, and the Tasmanian devil roll. As you can see from the photo attached, the rolls are a decently sized portion so personally I would be fine with getting 1 roll per person! The prices are obviously above average since it is a sushi place so keep that in mind when going in. Overall, both the service and the food is great! We visited mid-afternoon on a weekend and were so pleasantly surprised to see that they have a weekend happy hour! We ordered a few items from the happy hour and then a few dishes that we just had to try from the regular menu (the yellowtail sashimi was excellent!). I didn't love the spicy tuna roll, but it was okay. The specialty rolls were all excellent though. I wouldn't have ordered the one with coconut shrimp, but my boyfriend picked it and it ended up being my favorite! The heat from one of the rolls snuck up on me and I found myself sniffling a little by the end of my meal, but I wouldn't have described any of them as seriously spicy. Service was quick and kind. Ok sushi for beginners or those who have family members that don't like sushi but you need to find a place to compromise that serves teriyaki or Katsu rice. You can tell if a sushi place is legit by their nigiri.. especially if they have o-toro on the menu. This place had o-toro but it wasn't as "fatty" and "melt in your mouth" goodness as other establishments I've experienced. The rice was also under seasoned. I also had the crispy rice which was a disappointment because it was literally just fried rice with avocado on top and a slice of pepper. I found it lacking flavor and the rice was too greasy and over cooked. My husband had the hamachi Kama and the Ken roll special (which he actually liked a lot). The redeeming dish was the Tsunami Tataki sashimi plate. The albacore was fresh and you can't go wrong with ponzu. I would go back if I had a group of non sushi eaters with me or people who like "cooked" rolls. It's not a placed I would go to strictly for sushi. read more

Three of us visited Sushi Lounge Poway on a Wednesday early afternoon and we caught the 4-6 pm happy hour which they have most days. Due to the happy hour they were fairly busy but we did not have to wait long to get a table. Our waitress was friendly but after we put in our order we did not see her until she brought us our bill. We wanted to order more dishes but gave up as we could not catch her eye and figured we would just head home. Sushi Lounge Poway is aight - not great, not bad... just mid imo. I came in on a Thursday night with some family and as we got seated, I got a whiff of a fishy aroma close to the bar. And yes, I know they serve sushi-grade fish but this was more of the "not quite as fresh fish" smell. Fortunately, they were blasting the fans, so the smell was dissipated after a few seconds as I sat down. For appetizer, we had the garlic edamame. The portion is good for 2-3 people but I felt as if the flavor was just ok and fell flat at times. For sushi rolls we had the spicy tuna, Tasmanian Devil, Happy Wife, and Ring of Fire. The spicy tuna, as well, fell flat for me - the rice tasted like the store-bought sushi in texture and found the tuna to not be spicy and lacking in flavor. The saving grace here were the other 3 rolls: the Tasmanian Devil was nicely balanced with Ora King salmon, shrimp, avo, and spicy krab; the Happy Wife is unique with the tempura sweet potato in the middle amongst the salmon, albacore, and jalapeno on top providing bites to be desired; and the Ring of Fire is def for spicy food lovers as it combines albacore with tempura jalapeno, serrano chili, spicy krab, AND a wasabi aioli, which will def leave your tongue abuzz but surprisingly great! I also grabbed a couple of California rolls and found those to be pretty mid as well. Our server was great and attentive though they did forget my Ring of Fire roll so I had to wait a bit after the rest of the food had already come out. The ambiance inside is run-of-the-mill, and they do have outdoor seating. They also have a happy hour 4-6pm (except Mondays) which is kinda clutch. Overall, Sushi Lounge Poway is a spot I'll come back to when I'm feeling a quick hunch to get sushi for casual lunch or dinner, but not necessarily a quality sushi date night spot with amazing food or ambiance. read more

This is one of my favorite sushi bars. Usually, I am here more often but lately I have been Yelping all around town. Tonight was really nice because I met my friend that I haven't seen in a while. We ordered some food. A few pieces off the happy hour menu and some not. They have a nice happy hour menu from 4 - 6 pm. I had fresh salmon, yellow tail, salmon roe, salmon hand roll and for dessert...uni. Its melt in your mouth good. I also had a couple of my friends shishito peppers, yum! I got the tasmanian devil, which came with grilled shrimp, crab, salmon, cilantro, and lemon. This roll was very refreshing and delicious! I also got the tsunami role which came with grilled shrimp, avocado, krab, asparagus, cucumber layered with cajun seared albacore, with garlic, serrano chili, cilantro. All I can say is, it was yummy! Also got a miso soup and a seaweed salad. Seaweed salad was very interesting. It came with two different types of seaweed and cucumber, but I liked it. It was different, but delicious! I also like the ambience, not too loud for a pretty busy place. The customer service was On Point. Our waitress was very attentive, and answered all of our questions. I'm very disappointed with this place. I have to be honestly, even though I'm a very easy person who usually enjoys foods all the time. But the foods here are very very average, I couldn't give a full star for it. The tempura is very oily, probably one of the worst in my life. The Tasmanian Roll is super normal just like a basic roll, I don't feel any unique point about it. I didn't feel the Ponzu sauce flavor at all. My husband taco shell was very very hard, it broke my mouth. And the most thing made me feel unhappy was the service, it's very slow. We couldn't get our water until the middle of the meal. There was a big party sat next to us and came much later than us, they got water immediately after being seated. We are like, where's our water? It was easy to eat and service was pretty quick. If I had to say something I didn't like, the chairs at our table were ripped up or were not clean and the rice was falling apart on the unagi roll. Was actually on our way to one of our go to sushi spots family visiting but found out they were closed on mondays so we decided to go here instead. In the past we ordered take out for my sons bday and was pretty underwhelmed with what we got so never went back..until today. We thought maybe it would be better if we dined in. So red flag number one was how bad the place smelled upon walking in. STRAIGHT UP RANCID!! We should've walked out immediately once the putrid smell hit our noses. We stayed anyway and started off with an appetizer the Jaimeno while still looks over the menu. That appetizer never came. After all of our other orders already came I told the waitress that we didn't want it and she said oh sorry it's probably still cooking! Lol it was an appetizer that we ordered at least 10 mins before ordering any of our rolls and guess what it shows on the receipt as the last thing we ordered meaning she forgot to put it in and just lied about it! So onto the other food. Citrus chili yellowtail was the thinnest slices of fish in one of the worst sauces I've had. Ring of fire roll had cold stale fried jalapeños on top that even my starving teenager was complaining about it tasted like something that was left out for a day. Cocomo roll actually looked good but the shrimp inside tasted stale and old as well. Tasmanian devil roll was nasty! Description said grilled shrimp was inside but I had to spit out whatever was in there cause it was not edible. Overall presentation of food was not good, ambiance is horrible and the server forgot to put in our appetizer order. We had a party of 6 and every single person thought this was the worse sushi they have ever had and was wondering how in the world do they have 3 locations operating.
