I have been here twice now and I already want to come back. The staff is extremely kind and attentive. They are so quick to notice if you need something! I will talk about my most recent visit in this review (the first visit was just as good), as that is obviously the one I remember most. We ordered the tempura mix, miso soup, the wild child roll, and the spider roll, to split between three people. If we had gotten a third roll rather than splitting two between three people, it would've definitely been too much. It took maybe 10 minutes for the tempura mix to come out, and the rolls came out maybe 5 minutes after. When the tempura came to the table, because they stack it so intricately and the tempura is so light, one of the green beans fell off and onto the table. This is not a big deal to us, but the waiter and the waitress looked concerned, he said "I'm so sorry- it was on the edge." And we're like "Oh no it's fine!" Really sweet of them to be worried about something that we weren't going to make a big deal out of, ever. After we got the rolls, the waiter came back with two tempura green beans on a plate. I thought this was a great gesture of customer service. Completely above and beyond, even though it wasn't necessary at all. The tempura here is really nice- it comes with some shrimp, and veggies such as green beans, onion, broccoli, squash, sweet potato, etc. It's very light and the perfect appetizer. The wild child roll has a bit of spiciness to it, but not overwhelming. ( I am at a low level for spice tolerance.) It's also really nice texture-wise. Some crispiness on the top- I forgot what the menu said it was, but I'd definitely get this roll again. The spider roll is very good- often times I find that spider rolls are not worth the price, but this one definitely is. Everything we got is worth the price here. I will say this place is more on the expensive side for Vancouver sushi. I've been to more expensive places in Seattle and I haven't enjoyed myself as much as I do here. I still go to conveyor belt sushi places that are obviously more affordable, just for that sushi fix, but if I have extra funds I definitely recommend Sushi Mo. Best quality, most beautiful sushi I've had. One downside is that parking can be iffy here. I think a lot of that has to to do with overhyped Thai Orchid on the same block. read more

Man I really love this place. The people were so nice and it really stood out. I went during lunch on a weekday so it was pretty slow but overall it's a nice place. It seemed like a more traditional sushi restaurant and not as modern as some more hip sushi restaurants. It's not a bad thing by any means, this place was nice. As far as the food goes it was really, really good. I got the edamame and the Colombian roll 2.0 and both were fantastic. For the quality of food you're getting I feel like the price is pretty fair. Outrageously overpriced! Great place to come if you want ambiance and artful presentations. I'll give them 4.5 stars on presentation. The rest of the rating goes to quality of fish, portion size, and price. Have eaten sushi all over the world and this is by far they most pricey sushi restaurant I've ever encountered. Who knew - right here in Vancouver! Will be searching for something out of the stratosphere for my next sushi dinner experience. Had an Evergreen roll and requested ahi tuna as a topper. The ahi tuna was so razor thin you barely knew it was there. Specials board listed a spicy hamachi hand roll. We ordered two of those and they were pretty good but not $16 each good. Most expensive hand roll I've ever had by at least $6. Order of hamachi sashimi was a beautiful dish with all kinds of color thrown in but only 3 average size pieces to the tune of $12. My wife and I can normally enjoy a nice sushi dinner with drinks for maybe around $100 and leave feeling full and satisfied. We had to truncate this visit and opt for a late evening snack. Won't be back but if you're into the "art" of sushi and money is not an object then I would recommend this to you. read more

Love the sushi here!! We have never had a bad experience eating here. We always leave full and happy. My favorite rolls are the Caterpillar, Firecracker, Hot Dragon and the Volcano. They also have a small beer selection which I like. Only reason I didn't give this a 5 star, is because the atmosphere feels a little off. Should have trusted the negative reviews. The portions are exceedingly small. The prices are exceedingly high. I have had Sushi in the last six months in over nine states this was the most expensive and the smallest portions. At 6:30 PM this place was less than half full which should've clued me in. The waitress didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on and I had to explain things to her. Just as a sidenote I'm from Anchorage Alaska and the gas prices here in Vancouver/Portland Oregon area are $.75 a gallon more than in Anchorage Alaska (we have no refineries so all our gas is shipped out then shipped back). Up until now we had the second highest gas prices to California But this area beats them all. From now on we will pay more attention to the yelp reviews but I have to say that the reviews on all the sushi places in the Vancouver Washington /Oregon area and Portland area were mixed at best. For a town or area that's renowned for being a foodie area the sushi is very disappointing. Variety of rolls, portions, side dishes, condiments (no low sodium soy sauce) was disappointing. From a value standpoint I just can't justify giving this place higher than a 2 star review. The experience, the service, and the presentation were great, but the food quality doesn't match the price point and what we were given versus what we thought we ordered were completely different. Here's the breakdown. 1) Checking in : Thanks to Covid they are only allowing parties up to 5 to dine in together. We were a party of 6. No big deal, we had to split up and eat separate. The process for waiting was efficient, they have a sign in sheet and they go right down the list. They do not accept reservations. 2) Ordering : The menu is straight forward, they also use a system similar to the sign in sheet. Dry erase marker for sushi selections, box at the bottom to write the entrees that you want. Pretty hard to mess up, servers are very helpful and ensure your order gets put in properly. The pricing on the menu is a little more expensive than what I am used to paying for sushi, not unreasonable but it definitely increases my expectation for quality when paying this much. 3) Food: Everything came out nice with a great presentation. We strategically mapped the menu to have an opportunity to taste everything. We ordered the Chicken Katsu, the Tempura Combo, the 9 piece Sashimi Plate, a 6 piece King Salmon Sashimi, the Seahawks roll and the Dragon Roll. The Katsu and Tempura came out great. No qualms there. Our disappointment was in the sushi. The TV monitor said that the 9 piece sashimi was going to include Atlantic Salmon, Yellowtail, and Bluefin Tuna. Which turned us to ordering the King Salmon to add variety to our sashimi platter. What came out was Atlantic Salmon, Albacore Tuna, and King Salmon...which made our strategy for variety pointless. Salmon was a little redundant on the table. The King Salmon has a slight up charge and even more so for the seared option. It was disappointing. The pieces were thin and seared to the point where it tasted cooked. Definitely not worth the premium price tag. All sashimi was too thin, definitely far too expensive for what you receive. The rolls were also a disappointment. I tasted more rice than fish in each bite and that's the kind of quality I would expect at an all you can eat sushi restaurant rather than something of this caliber. All in all the experience was good, the staff was nice, but the food was definitely lacking. I will not be eating here again unless their pricing dramatically changes by 20%. read more

I have recently moved to Vancouver WA & I am determined to dine & explore to my hearts content! Being a huge sushi fan I wandered into Sushi Mo for lunch today. Having observed the environment, taken in the visual impact of the plate (beautiful) & tasted my first few bites I am still not sure who the want to be. Atmosphere is that of a lower end Sushi joint, (complete with Pepsi dispenser in plain view),but the prices are anything but that! The name is Sushi Mo and yet they don't offer a single sushi lunch special. The sushi is good and the presentation is lovely but they are way overpriced for what you get, especially considering the low end environment & the competition,Thai Orchid is only a block away! I ended up here for lunch because I was attending a conference and could not stand another day of hotel food. Not much to say that hasn't already been said. VERY fresh fish, fair prices, and good service. Presentation is over-the-top fancy, if you're into that. This is probably one of the only places that I have had octopus that was good. By far the best sushi place in downtown Vancouver, the owner is there almost every day and has the best customer service. I literally could eat the sushi every single day. I've had sushi from almost every sushi place in the Portland Metro area and these guys hands down are the best. They make all of their sushi fresh, I highly recommend the edame garlic, there mochi is also great. The specialty rolls are the way to go and I suggest doing it family-style. They're kind of spend he but they're worth every penny. Also the eel sauce is a must between that and the orange sauce there's no other place to go. Great location easy parking, and awesome customer service. Very rarely have I ever had to wait for a seat. Every time I go there I feel like I'm family. Not very happy. It's a nice place, clean, well staffed. It was not busy and lots of seats available so I sit at the sushi bar like I always do when eating alone. I sit down order tea and stared looking at the menu. I'm expecting the whole Sushi bar experience. A "chef" came over and said hello and started chatting. That was pleasant conversation about business and weather. All is nice. Then we started talking about fish. I love fish and I eat A Lot of sushi. So I was asking about special catches and type of sushi available. They had some good choices and I said all sounds good to me. Let's have chefs choice. And at full service sushi restaurants the chef knows what to do. We bounce back and forth with it's customers choices and I come back with chef knows what is really good and what ever the chef chose I'll eat. The he said he is not a chef and called over the server and said I should write Down what I wanted. Then the server started to ask. I lost face. I was grumpy today. Things were not going good for me. So I pull out a few bucks for the green tea I did not drink and walked out I ended up just two doors down at Jorge's Tequila Factory. They were happy to see me and to assist me in picking out tequilas, even if it took three people til someone had the knowledge. By the way, they have a great House XA. Will I go back to Sushi MO's? Tried Sushi Mo for the first time the other night. Went in right at 4:30 p.m. when it opened. We eat sushi a lot, and the reviews looked promising so we decided to check it out since we were looking for some good spots closer to our new place. I would say that as far as the presentation goes, the pictures and reviews were spot on. The plates were pretty. However, and this is a big one, I do not think the food justifies the price. We ordered 3 nigiri: uni, creamy scallop, and salmon toro/belly and then a rainbow roll. That cost us about $55! Yes, I know the choices of sushi are typically more expensive, but that is crazy. We have a few places we frequent in downtown Portland that are considered on the high end scale of things, and the prices are about half of what they are charging here. For example, their salmon sampler, if I remember correctly, was 6 pieces for $30-35. You can get 3 amazingly delicious cuts of 3 different types of salmon (9 pieces total) for $15-17. That said, the quality is pretty good. The salmon was delicious, and my husband said the uni was fresh. A point given to Mo Sushi for having uni since it's been hard to find uni at all at any sushi place these days. I had an issue with the rainbow roll and creamy scallop. For the rainbow roll, they drizzled a vinaigrette around the cut pieces (and on top of it!) making it very difficult to taste the ingredients of the actual roll itself. I felt like I was eating rice with salad dressing. Then, on the scallop, they put either a sesame oil-based garnish or drizzled straight sesame oil on top of the roll, which completely overpowered the deliciousness that is a creamy scallop. If you're going to do a twist on a classic dish, please note that somewhere on the menu. We left paying an arm and a leg and still quite a bit hungry. Lastly, my husband went to the men's room before we left and said it was pretty nasty. (The women's was very clean though.) read more

Spent $70 altogether for paper thin fish portions spread across multiple dishes, drowned in pungent sauce. The restaurant is very pleasing and has great service with very friendly people. But their food was not very good. It was bland with odd additions that just wasn't good in my opinion. I got a total of three rolls. The spicy ahi roll, rainbow roll and the spider roll. I wouldn't recommend this place being that those three rolls were 60$ and not good. Stopped in for lunch. Place is very nice, clean, and modern! Servers were super friendly and service was great. I ordered the Vancouver Tower and my husband, the chicken katsu. Presentation of both was beautiful. Food was very fresh and good. Katsu was perfectly crispy. I felt the price was a bit high for lunch in general though, I understand price for quality fish but even looking at pricing for appetizers, dessert, etc. everything seemed a bit high. For the $20 Vancouver tower I got, I'd personally have loved to see more fish/ avocado to be worth it. Great overall though! read more

I REALLY wanted to give this place 4 stars. It's got a great atmosphere: super clean, top-notch service, and a great menu. And I live in downtown Vancouver. So I want his place to make it. I got the thin-sliced fish with citrus chili sauce + sashimi, and my wife got a very-good salmon teriyaki. My "beef": 1) the salad that came with the meal was cheapy iceberg lettuce with 2 little pieces of cucumber. 2) why not offer slight modifications to menu items for more gluten-free options? At these prices, Yama sushi in the Pearl is a 15-minute drive without traffic. So that's the competition. Sorry Sushi Mo, but please up your game!
