First time eating at a buffet restaurant in nova and I have to say it was pretty decent. From the looks of it this place its really popular considering how many people were there and our wait to be seated did take some time. Our server was friendly and our water glasses were always filled so that was a plus, although she did forget to give us napkins and utensils at one point so waiting for that after getting our food was a bit annoying. Anyways, let's move onto the food. Sushi on has quite a variety of food to pick from. Anything from sushi, to soup, crab legs, and even crepes. The sushi was really appetizing and they did offer good rolls but nothing too extravagant. In my opinion it was the only thing that was really appealing compared to all the other food they offered. My bf got the crab legs which he seemed to enjoy but the butter that we got on the side for it didn't taste like butter at all. It was time for dessert and I got a crepe made with strawberries and whip cream with chocolate sauce on top. I also did get the green tea soft serve ice cream and that surprisingly really good. $22 AYCE Asian cuisine. We primarily came here bc we were craving sushi & wanted something affordable. The sushi was pretty much what you would expect at an AYCE place though. Wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst. Some rolls were really good, such as the rainbow & volcano rolls, but there were others that just didn't hit the spot. I was surprised to see Galbi on their meat selection as it tends to be a higher end meat - you tend to only find spicy pork & bugolgi @ AYCE establishments so that was a pleasant surprise. We came here to celebrate one of my friend's birthday. For the price of about $35 per person all you can eat, this is a good spot to go. They have soft shell crabs, fresh oysters, shrimps, sushi, shabu-shabu etc. There was not much people at dinner time so you have more freedom to choose your seat and can practice social distancing. It's located outside the Fair Oaks mall building so there was ample parking too. I give them 4 stars for their generous selection of food. Have been here a few times over the years, when it was Todai and then after it became Sushi On. Plentiful food, good variety, decent quality. I recommend the seaweed salad, fresh salmon salad, rainbow rolls, and Korean pork belly. Also heard the udon is good but didn't try it myself. We save up our appetites and look forward to a big mid-day lunch. I've previously have only been to this location as Todai once a couple years ago. Now known as Sushi On, I didn't really see much of a difference when they changed the name. Honestly, I like the other seafood dishes they offer over the sushi itself. You can tell some rolls were premade and refrigerated, the rice was hard on some rolls & eventually it all started tasting the same in my mouth. I couldn't really tell which rolls I got anymore, they were all the same to me after trying 6-8 of them in a row. The salmon was super chewy for some reason, so I didn't go back to that. What saved it for me was the eel nigiri, the ginger blue crab legs & the udon noodles. I like that there's a tempura tray for you to add to your udon/ramen. However, these weren't just my favorite because these run out FAST if you are not first in line when they bring it out. It gets super packed for dinner time so be prepared to wait or come exactly at 530pm when they open! read more

Pretty good sushi selection. This is my first time here since they switched names. The food is always really fresh and everything always tastes good! I think the meats are seasoned very well (like the Korean BBQ steak and the teriyaki chicken) didn't care for the mini crab cakes they had or the spiced pork belly. I've been going to Fair Oaks Mall for years, but never realized that there was such a delicious sushi buffet residing there! Some sushi buffets take orders for individual rolls and side dishes to be prepared especially for you; this sushi buffet has all of the rolls and side dishes out for hungry customers to grab. I prefer this style of sushi buffet, since it makes it easier to try different rolls and sides without committing to the full portion. The sushi rolls are pretty decent here - they have all of the classic rolls, including tuna, eel, imitation crab meat, and more. They also have some specialty rolls as well. Although not comparable to a high end sushi restaurants, the quality of the sushi here is amazing considering that it's a sushi buffet. Even more impressive than the sushi are the side dishes! They have delicious selections ranging from seafood (fish, shrimp, crawfish, clam, etc), soups, ramen/hot pot station, noodles, and grilled meats (chicken, steak, etc). They also have amazing salads (eg. seaweed salad, sashimi salad). The dessert section is beautifully displayed as well, with cakes cut in mini sizes so that you can try the many delicious flavors, cookies, shaved ice, and more. The cakes were so delicious - I would love to find out where they are from so I can buy more for myself! The cost of lunch is around $20-21 and dinner is around $30-31, which makes it decently priced compared to a total bill of a typical sushi restaurant, especially after considering the amount of dishes that you are able to try at once here! There are a few upgrades to the dinner menu, including snow crab legs, fried blue crab, sashimi, and a crepes station. Both lunch and dinner were equally satisfying to me! The service here is very good as well! Although the restaurant gets packed rather quickly, the waiters/waitresses are great at clearing away the plates within minutes. However, the speed at which they are able to cook the foods doesn't match the quick speed at which the food is gobbled up, especially for the specialty seafood items. Hopefully they will be able to hire more chefs in the future to keep up with the demand! Today was a completely different story. My friends and I finished our meals and asked for the check. When the server came back with the check, he had circled the "tip" area and clearly tried to draw attention to it, as if we weren't going to tip him at all. I've been a server before and I tip very well however that was just plain rude. So in return I wrote "who the f*** does that?" There is a line of people at T-5 minutes to opening. To people watch, I recommend arriving later in the day or later in the evening. Aside from the nirigi classics like salmon, tuna, yellow tail and tamago (egg), I recommend the dragon roll for prepared sushi rolls. I also recommend the bulgoggi, spicy Korean noodles, and gyoza. I also recommend the miso soup and dessert samplers: green tea ice cream, tiramisu, tofu cheese cake, and oreo cake. I think the restaurant could continue to enhance and sharpen up the men's rest room. I am very impressed by what this restaurant is able to accomplish at its fixed price point--hence the five star rating. We used to come here quite often when it was still Todai but now we go to Sushi King in Sterling (it's closer and cheaper). The "hot" side variety is good but the sushi variety is lacking. Sushi King has about 30+ varieties of sushi while Sushi-On has about half that. The dessert selection here is much better than Sushi King's. And I love the freshly made crepes. However, the good thing about SK is that when you order eel, there isn't a hoard of inconsiderate people waiting to pounce and take 3/4 of the tray for themselves and leave only four pieces for the rest of us. My son stood patiently in line and there were NO EEL NIGIRI left because all the rude ass people took more than their share. I saw one woman take about ten eel nigiri. This happened EVERY TIME we went to Todai and it's still happening at Sushi-On. WTF? Put up a sign in every Asian language and tell people to NOT TAKE MORE THAN TWO EEL PER PERSON!!! The food use to be freshly made, hot, and tasty but now the "hot food" is not hot, it's tastes like it's been sitting there for a while. The sushi and salads are pretty good, better than most of the AYCE sushi in NOVA I have tried. The cooked foods are more varied, but there are good selections indeed. The pork Bulgogi was a hot food stand out. On the salds, the soba is really good as is the Caesar. The rolls tend to be coated in mayo or containing deep fried items. Compared to the ones in California, it was subpar. I think rebranding this place was a good choice so that they're not linked to the Todai brand and don't have certain expectations to meet. It's best to go on busier days since I've realized the sushi/ hot food is always fresher. Green tea ice cream soft serve is pretty darn good and I love how they have an espresso machine.
