Before covid, they had a crepe station as well, but that seems to be removed permanently. Sushi on has sushi, korean/chinese dishes (kbbq, dumplings, noodles), udon/hotpot, seafood, and dessert options. The service is also good and they clear the dishes relatively quickly. I have never had any issues with management or service. Sometimes, the place gets so crowded that you have to wait in a line or the cooks don't replenish the dish. I saw many Koreans in the restaurant, so I was expecting the food to be pretty good. It did not let me down. We went on a Friday for lunch. No wait time at all. I don't know that I would go for dinner because it is expensive, but for lunch it was okay. The sweet and sour pork was amazing! The kalbi was excellent as well. The kimchi is a little different but still very good. The spicy noodles were sooo yummy. Quite spicy, so if you can't handle spice, I would not try it. The fried zucchini was good but not so much the fried fish. I didn't like the seaweed salad either. I guess I was going more for the Korean food than the sushi. The tables in the middle of the restaurant are squeezed in together. If you can sit more towards the outside of the restaurant (along the windows to the mall), that's best. Not as compact at all. You get all the fun rolls and sashimi. 6-8 different types of salads. Soba noodles and a hot noodle soup area which includes ramen, shabu shabu and pho. You get a nice variety of hot Korean/ Chinese food, dessert bar with a crepe station. Definitely try the beef tartare roll, soba noodles, shabu shabu soup and the fried squid. Service here is great. Servers are attentive and the chefs constantly keep the food plates restocked. Lunch is around $25 and dinner is $30. Food is price reasonably considering you're getting a wide variety of quality sushi. Highly recommend this restaurant for everyone. They have a lot of room and our group was given a section in the back that comfortably accommodated us all. At $20 pp we had a lunch buffet. Although I am generally wary of mall-sushi, this place allayed my fears. It was clean and had a decent food turnover in each of the counters. The buffet options were extensive ranging from Chinese (in its stir fries) to Japanese (living up to its name with sushi, tempura and soba noodles), and even a little Thai in one or two dishes. The quality is decent - 3-1/2 stars, but I wouldn't rate it at 4. The variety of sushi is great, the seafood selection is decent, and the steak, noodles, and dessert are pretty good. I had my first soft-shell crab and omg it was good. They also had this mini steak station where they cooked the steak medium-rare, which was pretty delicious for a buffet place. The kalbi was ok but I felt like it could be better. Fried rice was decent too. The miso soup was good but the temperature could be a bit hotter. The oyster was ok but my sister said you can tell it was frozen then thawed rather than fresh. The sushi section was mostly great. The cookies at the dessert station are always my favorite. The powdered butter cookies are just so delicious and the chocolate chip cookies taste different, but in a good way. I also like their mini slices of pumpkin pie and mini slices of tofu raspberry (?) cake/pie or whatever they call it. They also have fruit available at the dessert station. I came here twice once for lunch and once for dinner both on a Saturday. The main differences between lunch and dinner would be the variety of seafood options and the price. The dinner option comes with oysters, snow crab legs (cold), Sashimi, Shabu shabu, and matcha ice cream. However the dinner price is significantly more expensive around $36 compared to the $24 for lunch. If you're thinking "hey I like oysters and snow crab legs or perhaps even sashimi", and that you might be able to get the $12 difference and make the dinner trip worth it. I would say that would be incredibly hard due to the employees taking out the more premium items at a slower rate. Every time I wanted oysters or snow crab legs I would either have to be waiting for the employees. The thing is that the oysters and snow crab legs were prepared ahead of time and in little baskets that the employees would pull out to restock. It was a clear example of limiting customer consumption which makes sense as they are trying to cut costs, but we are also paying a premium price. The shabu shabu was not worth it as the meat was very tough and broth a little bland. I would say the sushi options for lunch and dinner options were the same as in terms of the nigiri and the rolls. If you're looking for more of the rolls or nigiri, then the lunch option is not a bad option for you. read more

It's been a few years since I last visited Sushi On, and had no hopes or expectations due to recent not-all-so positive reviews. However, I was pretty impressed by our recent visit on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We came about 45 mins after it opened, and was told that it will be about 40-minute wait. I was a bit disappointed due to the long wait time; however, I was surprised when they seated us about 5 mins of waiting! I was slightly antsy with possibility of not enough food for us since we weren't the first batch of ppl to dive into the buffet. However, we didn't once feel that there were lack of food and/or lack of replenishment of food during our 1.5 hours of eating at the restaurant. And yes, the place was pretty packed given that it was a Saturday. Overall, the food was pretty decent and good for the price--especially given that you can get a variety of food. I mean, most places cost about $15-20 an entree, so this wasn't too bad. I'd definitely come back again. Side Note: 1. There are plenty of parking spaces due to the fact that it's inside the Fair Oaks Mall. There's a separate restaurant entrance so you don't have to go inside the mall to access the place. 2. Once you put your name & number down on the waitlist, they'll text you once your table is ready. You have to show up to be seated within 10 mins of receiving the text. 3. Once we sat down, we had servers come right up to us and helped us with drinks and other items we needed. They were very good about taking care of our dirty dishes and cleaned our table promptly. This sushi buffet is a bit pricey at about $30 a person for dinner but I'd say the quality and variety of food they serve is better than 90% of the buffets out there. They serve the typical sushi pieces such as eel, clam, salmon, and tuna, however, the freshness and quality of sushi has always stood out to me. They also serve several Japanese and Korean dishes like Udon noodles and Galbi. The dessert selection is great as well and they come in small portions which allows you to try many different types. My favorites are the green tea and mango cheesecake. Also, if you come here on certain days they put out special dishes such as stuffed lobster tail which gets snatched up very quickly. The sushi bar has a lot of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The sashimi is only tuna, salmon, and tilapia. The nigiri has these as well as clam and eel. The rolls are interesting, but to me they are not that great. Too much cream cheese used, lots of roe, and what looks like slaw. The vegetarian roll was not too bad. They other half of the Buffett was all Asian food, and not other filler stuff like pizza, fries, etc. so that is great. There are items such as crawfish, spicy shrimp, clams, various noodles, short ribs, shumai, gyoza, and more. The center has the desserts. There are many different cakes (Oreo, blueberry, lemon, tofu cheesecake to name a few), a coffee maker that makes all types of coffee, a snow cone maker, green tea ice cream, and a crepe station. The crepes are so-so, as they use strawberry syrup, blueberry syrup, and real bananas. If they used more real fruit it would be better. You can not go wrong with going here to eat. A group of friends and I arrived at Sushi On a little before opening and I was surprised that there was already a line out the door! Thankfully we were able to get a table and I was amazed at the selection for the buffet. There were korean dishes, tempura, shabu shabu, udon, a full sushi bar with rolls and nigiri, miso soup, along with a crepe station, matcha soft serve, mini desserts, and even a coffee station. I tried eating as much as my stomach could hold, but wasn't able to try everything. I'd say my favorite was the sushi and tempura, but the overall quality of food is pretty good. Have always been a fan of this place when it was known as Todai. Now they have changed the name to "Sushi On" ...well that's kind of what I have to do when I go there, get my sushi on LOL. My family and I came here all the time during birthdays, especially because my mom is has that typical cheap Asian mom mentality. They always give you a certificate for a free meal if you present them with an official form of identification. Well, don't quote me on that, I'm not sure if they do that anymore. Aside from that bonus they have a lot more to offer. When they first opened a while back, they served either lobsters or jumbo shrimp every 30 minutes. After a while, they made it into half portions, I guess because it was beginning to get costly for them, and then eventually they stopped it completely. Well that was fine for me because I didn't come for the lobster. What I love the most about this buffet is the sashimi. They put out slices of sashimi, salmon, tuna, and red snapper and basically people are always grabbing the most they can. It's rare when you see that it's full. It's pretty good quality and fresh. The taste is great, and I can't get enough of it. Well, aside from this the sushi is decent too. I love the spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon roll. I'm not sure what the rest of the rolls are called but they have such a variety. Not all of them tastes great, but the majority do. They have many sections of food. They're slow in refilling the sashimi plate so keep an eye out because it runs out fast! They also have raw oysters and snow crab legs! The snow crab legs are cold though, but I'm okay with that. There is also a udon/ramen/shabu shabu bar where you can pick your own ingredients. The udon is not bad. My friend says the ramen broth was flavorless. I'm not a fan of their cooked food items (fried rice, vegetable gyoza, crab cakes, lo mein, etc). It's about $30 per person for the dinner buffet. If you're going to pay that much, don't fill yourself up with that cheap stuff! Stick with the sushi and seafood! Remember to save room for dessert! After a very long time we had a dinner here. This place used to be my go to for get togethers and sushi cravings. I love everything about this place. Their variety of food. The sushi is made fresh. Service is always excellent and the staff is friendly. We enjoyed everything there. The cups for drinks and some areas didn't seem as polished/clean, but that didn't bother us. DINE IN is Back..ALRIGHT!! After months of closure due to lock-down, happy to let others know that this buffet establishment is open to sit down dining once again. Virginia has eased lock-down restrictions and this place is open and welcoming guests back, not just for takeout, but true sit down dining. Of course there are some new guidelines as part of the new norm that you can expect at a buffet restaurant. These are all good guidelines that help us all stay safer at this time. Here are some of the guidelines you need to be aware of: 1) They will do a temperature check on each individual to make sure you are not showing any signs of fever. 2) When you leave your seat, whether it is to approach the buffet line or restroom, you are required to wear your face mask. There are lots of reminders signs everywhere. 3) The staff go thru daily process to check temperature and assess symptoms. 4) It will be staff-serving buffet, meaning you go up to the buffet line, they will have plastic plates, you just let them know what you would like and their staff will serve them on a plate for you to bring back to your seat. 5) They do ask that you do your part to keep 6 ft apart from others. 6) They have plastic re-usable silverware. Absolutely outstanding service from Thomas, who went above and beyond in making our meal extra enjoyable! Thomas knows that my daughter doesn't eat avocado and made a plate of California rolls without avocado. This place is plain the ass to find & don't put the address on Yelp (it'll just take you to Fairoaks Mall). Sushi On is tucked away & located between Macy's furniture and JC Penny (hidden behind parking garages). The staffs here try their very best in keeping the place clean, buffet eaters, please help them out and tip well!! This place gets busy on the weekends and some of the patrons there have zero consideration for others, cutting lines, not teaching your kids proper manners, not cleaning up after their mess, obnoxious, etc.... Now adults too are making a mess, not cleaning up after themselves when dropping food at the buffet tables. Come on, let's all be considerate! I was excited to come back after many years, but boy was I disappointed. Even though this is your best bet for a quality buffet in the northern Virginia area, it was a let down. Saturday night came along and I was ready to eat! It was a 30 minute wait before we could be seated, didn't mind that. Once we were, we took off to explore the vast buffet! Or so I thought....the sushi here is of decent quality. It will satisfy your craving and will fill you up! Lots of options to choose from. Rolls to sashimi there are so many and the people behind the counter are always bringing it in fresh. The rest of the food? Mehhh. The snow crabs, not worth the wait. I don't know how long but there's always a line and it takes them forever to bring out the crabs! And they bring out maybe 15-20 clusters? For an entire restaurant? Cmon y'all! We're paying hard earned money! Dessert was the best part of dinner. Freshly made crepes with the toppings of your choosing and matcha soft serve, perfect way to end the meal. Service was pretty good. At the beginning our waitress forgot our chopsticks and napkins so we had to wait before we could eat our sushi. She quickly made up for that. Thank you!
