First of all- can we talk about price? Where in the Bay Area can you find rolls this affordable without compromising on quality? Most of their specialty rolls are priced around $13.99 with the most expensive one sitting at $15.99. Even then, that's a steal in my book. Taste: fish = fresh! I had the pleasure of trying the Omakase and it was delightful. The fish was fresh and the ratio of rice to fish was perfect. There were surprises of truffle essence on some of the fish. Decided to try this newly open Japanese restaurant and was amazed by the quality and freshness of the ingredients: from the chawanmushi to the sashimi! The chawanmushi was excellent: soft and creamy with mushroom, chicken, fish cake.. you can taste it all subtlety. We also ordered chicken karaage and it was devoured by the kids. Didn't get a chance to try it though. The UFO roll was good too, it comes baked with a slice of scallop. Good sauce combo. Got the Sushi Pro Hand Roll and it didn't disappoint. I believe this step of service is necessary, esp when Omakase is almost always chef's choice. Service was quick and ticket time for orders came out less than 5-7 minutes. Food, 3.5 stars. If you are looking for quality sushi, this is not it. I spend hundreds of dollars weekly on great quality sushi. Don't expect that here. This is a more "bang for your buck" spot. I ordered the toro a la carte and it the meat was held together by some kind of thick muscle or cartilage in between each panel. I spat it out. I'm surprised they even served it. They had me at $50 omakase. My family and I arrived to the plaza on a Sunday evening and put our name down for 5. There was plenty of nearby parking in the plaza at that time, though I would imagine it to be more crowded during lunchtimes. Although we were quoted 25 minutes, our table was ready in 12. They do not have a queue system, just someone with a clipboard taking names, so it's best not to stray too far after putting your name down (we saw several parties show up late after their names were called but no one was there). The inside of the restaurant is a decent size with space for larger parties, although smaller than other surrounding businesses. There are a couple tables outside as well. At one point during our meal it got super loud in there. The kitchen is very open and the decor was simple. You order everything by scanning a QR code with your phone. This may be confusing to those who are not used to ordering that way. I am unsure if they have physical menus for those who need one. We started with the omakase, which came with 9 pieces of nigiri, a miso soup, and a chawanmushi. The rice under the fish was nothing special and quite small. While you are there for the fish, good seasoned sushi rice makes a huge difference. The fish itself was of decent quality, although the size of each piece of fish was inconsistent and some of the flavor combinations lacked creativity. I don't think that it would be something I ordered again for that price. One thing to note is that we did not receive an explanation of what fish was included in the omakase. The chawanmushi was smooth and jiggly, though it could use more flavor. We also ordered a salmon rice bowl, which came with salad and miso soup. My dad appreciated the texture of the salmon. We finished off with 2 rolls, the Sushi Pro roll and dragon roll, which were reasonably priced and pretty yummy. What stood out the most was the service. While we were waiting for our table, we received constant updates on the progress of our table. They also offered water to everyone who was waiting outside. Our food came out super quick. Servers came to check on us fairly often. There was some lag time when it came to getting our bill at the end. Overall I think Sushi Pro is a decent addition to the SJ sushi options. TL;DR: Mediocre sushi at a premium price. -------- The decor and ambience of the place are fine. It looked pretty busy but we were seated relatively quickly. The service was also reasonably quick. The quality of the food is roughly 3 stars. Nothing outstanding, and some of the fish was a hair on the mushy side (not mush by any means, but mushier than I'm accustomed to). The appetizers (yellowtail and albacore) were decent quality but the sauces were not additive. We ordered a ton of nigiri - Uni is one of my favorites, and I was excited to see it on the menu but the quality of it was pretty disappointing; it didn't taste too fresh. The waitresses and waiters were friendly, but you need to order from an app, which detracts from the dining experience a bit - to me one of the main benefits of going out or to be waited in, but with an app you're doing about half of the work. So if I have to deal with an app, the food and rest of the experience should be amazing to make up for it. For the same price, I've eaten at sushi restaurants that are so good, you're left speechless for a few moments. The quality of this place was fairly run-of-the-mill (ordinarily I try to avoid these types of establishments). If the prices weren't so high, I'd give it a solid three stars, but given that plus the experience of having to order from an app tips the scales towards two stars in my book. They are on the soft opening progress so I believe they are testing out their dishes on the menu. Once seated, scan the barcode from thy table and order from it. We order the deluxe chirashi which was good, the toro, Yellotail, salmon,uni, tuna was fresh except the albacore wasn't fresh. Each comes with 2 pieces and fresh wasabi. The fishes was great but too much rice underneath it. The unagi don was okay, too much unagi sauce that make it overly sweet in the flavors. Once again, too much rice underneath it. Both comes with salad and miso soup. I disliked the dressing on the salad, it was overly sweet and the pink color dressing really turn off my stomach. The crunchy roll was okay. The fried chicken was not crispy and too dry. The sauce was overly sweet too. The soft crab was tiny compare to that price. New sushi joint opened up between the habit and rooster and rice (took over Asian box). Small restaurant, about 15 tables inside and 2 tables outdoors. Just recently opened so wanted to give this place a try! The fish is fresh here but I thought the sushi pro roll was ok, nothing special flavor wise but it was reasonably priced! They have nigiri omakase that I would like to try next time since I really enjoyed the hamachi nigiri. The veggie tempura had the perfect batter and it wasn't too thick and served to you freshly fried so it's coming to ya hot! Saw this place on tiktok and was craving sushi! Place has a lot of hype, it was packed, with a 15 min wait. They ran out of the 10 course Omakase when we got there so we resorted to just buying their nigiri and sharing a piece each since there were two of us. They also ran out of sea bream which I was super disappointed about. Their fish was cut super thick, which I usually don't mind cause I love my protein and when the fish is good, it melts in your mouth but it DID NOT, I was chewing a lot and that's not a good thing when it comes to raw fish. Fish seems fresh, didn't taste fishy, but wasn't the BEST fish I had. The rice was well proportioned to the fish, but it kept falling apart and did not stick to my fish as it should with nigiri. The only highlight was the Seared Salmon Belly with Truffle, we ordered another one cause it was that good! Very melt in your mouth. I got their Chawanmushi, not the best I've had, seems like it was a bit over cooked since I had bubbles in mine, which is a sign of over cooked egg whites. I also got their Sushi Pro roll, it was yummy, but not anything mind blowing compared to any of the other sushi spots. It was also on the smaller side. Like with any tiktok or reel place, I always tread lightly and this place was no difference. Food comes out relatively fast. TBH, the food is kinda so-so. The shrimp in the tempura was nearly tasteless. The cut of the fish for the sea bass nigiri was thin. The cut of the hamachi sashimi was roughly 2/3 of what I get at my goto sushi restaurant for the same price. And the rolls were not wrapped very tightly, which I found seriously annoying.
