First thing it was very warm in the restaurant then as we were seating by the window I noticed the window seals were dirty and a couple of flies hanging out. I have really tried to like this place but they have been consistently bad service. It's been about 3 years since the last time I came and it was bad. So I told myself never again. Tonight, my fiancé wanted to have something we haven't tried in a while. So, I gave in and we went. Started off fine. Service seemed fine. I ordered some items for us. The first couple of items came out but eventually we never received the rest of my food and yet they still put it on the bill. I reminded them that I never received the rest of our items. I was apologized to. But that was it. They took the items off the bill but never attempted to help make the situation better. From what we ordered, everything was hit and miss. The Sunshine roll was a definite hit as it had great flavor with the fish tasting fresh and well seasoned. The salmon nigiri and yellowtail nigiri were decent but nothing special. The Hot Night roll, on the other hand, was overly drenched in sauce to the point that the rice on the bottom of the roll was super wet from soaking up too much sauce. Even the shrimp tempura inside the roll was completely soggy. The most regrettable purchase had to be the fried calamari. It is served on top of a bed of lettuce that has been drenched by the oil from the fried calamari that was also bland and had the tempura coating falling right off. Happy hour is from the middle of the afternoon until closing, but there is a reason for that. I wouldn't want to pay full price for the food here, but if you have a sushi craving and need to get it satisfied at a decent price, this place is not a completely bad option. I got the Yellowtail. dragon roll, spicy rainbow roll, spicy tuna hand roll & the spicy garlic edamame! All of it was absolutely delicious! The spicy garlic edamame was so delicious I like edamame but I'm not a huge fanatic this changed my mind. The fish was so fresh and all of the rolls I got were delicious! The service was good. My only compliant was they literally barely gave us napkins they acted like it was coming out of their paycheck & didn't ask to refill anything. When I called, Stephen answered the phone and was unprofessional on the way he handled it. Not once did I get a apology and was in denial of missing my items. I ordered from Postmates, everything was packed nicely. I ordered the Red Moon and Yellowtail Scallion Maki and I was surprised how bland everything tasted. Presentation was nice and I thought it would be flavorful since it had sauces and seasoning on it, but still noooothing. Fish also didn't taste very fresh. Yellowtail Scallion Maki was the same and it also wasnt rolled properly so it broke apart easily. Tables have this sticky coating. Makes me uncomfortable even sitting down in there. The fish is not fresh more often than not, sometimes some slices of fish feels warm to toucb upon recieving it (ordered sushi boat). Even though this place is super close by to where I live, I'm not sure if I would come back since I think there are better places to go get sushi... My boyfriend and I ordered their Dragon Roll, Flamingo Jalapeño Roll, and their Spicy Dragon Roll. Their sushi was alright, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed. It lacked flavor and tasted bland. It honestly reminded me of sushi I could get at the supermarket... Even though we went for Happy Hour, I found that the price we paid was pretty pricey for what we got. Pretty upsetting that I find out that Riverside has an awesome sushi place AFTER I graduate. I loved the vibe and feel of the restaurant. It's really upscale and different from the other restaurants in the area. It's a perfect place if you have date night or are looking for something a little more upscale. We ordered the Salmon on Fire roll and the beef bento box. The Salmon on Fire was super yummy, we are huge fans of baked mayo rolls and this did it in for us. The roll was on the larger side and filled us up quickly. (Kind of sad that it wasn't on fire so the name was pretty misleading). The bento box was standard, I feel that you can't really mess up on a bento box LOL. Only complaint about the meal was the miso soup. It was super salty, which was disappointing. From my college friends I've heard that this is the place to be when it comes to alcoholic drinks and happy hour. I haven't been but if I am ever in the area, I will definitely come back a second time to check it out. read more

A lot of places in Riverside have AYCE option, this is not one of those places. That can be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. This place has a great happy hour. You don't have to feel rushed to make it to happy hour because it's from 3pm to close. Their happy hour includes discounted prices on appetizers, nigiri/sashimi, sushi rolls, and beer. I personally like AYCE sushi restaurants but they always leave me super full. So I like to come here when I'm in the mood for a sushi roll or some nigiri and maybe a beer or sake bomb. I'd like to mention though that the service is kind of slow. I came a couple weeks ago and our server was particularly slow. I wanted to directly tip the busser because he was more of a help than the actual server. My brother asked if they had a certain fish and he straight up said no, then we saw it on the board for the specials and asked another server about it and luckily he was able to help us out. read more

Update: Went from 4 stars to 1 star (compared to my first review for Sushi R91 ten months ago. Came on 4/17/19. What happened to the service?!?!?!?!?!?! It was almost non-existent. The waitress came by after a while to take our order. Then she kept visiting the table next to us but NEVER came by our table ever again. She also didn't put in a dish we ordered. We find out after a long wait after eating our food and we thought it was cooking or would be on its way but we flagged down the nearest person (the manager) when we asked for the check, the manager apologized and said maybe she forgot to enter it. OMG. We NEVER got anymore napkins than the 2 we were given when we first sat down. She comes by after (at the end) and asked how things were and I said we never got something we ordered and she just moved on to the next table. Wow. No one ever came by our table other than to initially drop off food. Worst customer service ever. Atmosphere: 2 Stars. Music is like R&B and it's fine. The flies however are a bit annoying. We are always seated at window seats so the flies are the biggest problems. They are actually a turn off and there are flies every single time we visit (almost once a week). I am really considering paying more (at the other sushi restaurant) just to not have to see these flies a foot from me during my dinners here. Taste: 4 Stars. Happy Hour $1 per piece for sushi was a pretty good deal. (However, during the summer now, with many of the college kids gone, the fish is not as fresh.) This is one of the few places around Riverside that you could get somewhat quality sushi. Their happy hour makes it more of a go to place if you just need a sushi fix. Their sushi pieces are a dollar each, while their rolls are advertised as up to 65% off but I don't think anything on the menu is actually that. It's usually $1-$2 off the normal menu price. So in terms of food, they have a good variety of fishes including tuna, salmon, toro, albacore, yellowtail and a few others. The sushi pieces are huge compared to many other places, however, majority of the fishes were extremely fishy. On top of that, the fish pieces were extremely chewy, which from that alone I can tell how fresh the fish actually is(not that fresh). There are times when I go and the fishes are extremely soft and fresh but at other times it's not. Really a hit or miss. The tiger roll was okay at best. It was extremely drenched in sauce which really hid the taste of the actually shrimp in it. There was also barely any avocado in it which was a huge disappointment for a avocado lover. Overall, this place is just okay. It's not the greatest but it's not the worst either. A meal for 2 usually runs around $30 which isn't that bad when it comes to sushi. If you have the cravings and don't want to drive, this place will definitely do! read more

I've come here plenty of times before, but recently visited because I was in the mood for sushi, didn't want to stuff myself with all you can eat, and also wanted something pretty affordable while also being pretty decent quality. I'll say this place is pretty affordable and pretty decent, so it's pretty good for a sushi craving and that's the only thing keeping this review at a 4/5 at the moment. Remembering that it's a pretty good sushi pick me up. Mostly because of the happy hour special from 3 pm to closing on weekdays. My most recent visit just left a pretty bad taste in my mouth as far as service goes. I almost gave a lower rating, but I tried to remember that it was only one time and only one server. I've had better experiences in the past. The server I had was just about the least helpful server I've ever had. I don't know if there was a language barrier or if this first day ever, but he was just not helpful. He was a curly haired dude with glasses, and I think he may have been Korean because it sounded like he was speaking Korean to someone else. I asked questions about the menu and he just looked confused and did not answer both times. I asked about portions for sushi/nigiri vs sashimi, and I literally just answered the question myself because he had no clue. I also asked the market price for toro, and he also gave me a blank confused stare. He didn't even try to ask anyone else about it or apologize for not knowing, he just said they didn't have any. I later asked a different server who brought out our food, he actually seemed to know what he was doing and he told me a price for toro. That would've changed my entire order had I known. That guy was not an attentive server at all. He never checked back up on us at all. After we finished eating, we waited for what seemed like half an hour just for our check. He seemed too busy being confused trying to take the order of the table next to ours. We didn't end up getting our check from him. Had to ask the busser who actually was helpful. I could go on a rant how this dude is a representation of what I dislike about tipping culture in the US, but this review isn't about that. I don't want to rip apart the restaurant for one bad server, when everyone else and everything else was fine. But I perhaps I would if this were a survey based solely on him. We walked in and they have a waited to be seated sign. Literally, stood at the front register for 10 mins while all the workers just walked around and looked at us till I went and asked if I could be helped. The first time came here with my boyfriend to get sushi, my boyfriend has a severe shellfish allergy and we informed the server about it. Our server was helpful and nice but once they switched servers she didn't know about allergy but we told her so the chef would know about it. We placed our order and when we got our rolls we noticed that there was piece of carb in the spicy roll. We informed her about what happened. The 2nd we came, we waited and once placed at a table we ordered the rolls and we informed the girl about my boyfriend allergy and we asked for them to be separate plates. (Mind you it was packed when we went and loud) Once we got the plate the rolls were together I got upset because i worry about my boyfriend health when we get sushi I told the waiter to take away the rolls and told him about my boyfriend allergy and we lost our appetite and decided to leave because we were upset. I believe one of the leads for the waiters, wanted us to stay but we didn't want too. The staff was nice and helpful but we decided to leave. If you have an food allergy, please let them know Even remind them over and over if you decide to come. I know restaurants are doing their job and service many people. Took about 10 minutes to get seated even though there were a good number of open tables (covid compliant open seats). The problem is that our order of 3 rolls and 1 hand roll (not cooked) took ~45 minutes to get to the table. People who ordered take out got their rolls faster than we did. ~2-3 take out customers who ordered after us (and with bigger orders) got their food and left while we waited. I can understand if it's a dinner rush except that it wasn't. Sushi quality was decent / average but for the price, I've had better quality rolls. Trying to support local businesses during this time, but when service takes so long, it makes me want to go elsewhere read more
