There was a wait time of 20 minutes and though the lobby/waiting area was not in use, after checking in was told by receptionist/hostess not to wait in the seating area but to wait in our vehicle as to not make the lobby look packed? I thought this was odd but decided the place looked busy so the food must be great?! I received a text message to come back in to be seated and notified the hostess only to be told that it was an error??? We wait another 5 minutes for them to find us a table. I ordered chicken Katsu and other items but the Katsu was the smallest I have ever seen in my life no lie! The salad was okay and the soup was fine. Looking around the place needs a GOOD CLEANING. Tables were very sticky and floors too. Our waitress was attentive just the food was not anything great. Sushi didn't seem fresh and decided to pass on dessert. Bill was $72 bucks not worth the value. I use the restroom before leaving pretty disgusting and unsanitary! MANAGER/OWNER needs to step it up and clean this place and offer better training. Very cute looking spot across from the new kalaveras. Got sat quickly for a Saturday night (only waited about 20ish mins) but it went downhill quickly after that. We ordered an appetizer and 3 rolls. It took about an hour to get our food. Our appetizer never came. My baked roll was severely under cooked. The rice was hard and watery. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because my husband's rolls were cooked fine and had good flavor. The beer he ordered was also a nice pour (no foam filled to the top). I've been going here since 2018, and it's honestly amazing. The service is really good and they were very accommodating for my friend who was in a wheelchair. I only come here for special occasions due to the pricey nature, but I'm not bothered by the price because I'm going as a treat. This is my second time at Sushi R91 since I've moved to the city. Once in November 2021, and recent to-go order. On my first visit, on a Friday evening, it took 40 minutes to get our appetizer and another 30 minutes to get our main dishes. The quality of the sushi was acceptable, given that we were starving from the wait time. I recently ordered uni and fatty salmon sashimi (to go). The uni was the market price at the time of the order, so around $20 for a couple of pieces. I've had uni before, and I know what fresh quality was like. Once I bit into the uni, it had an odorous and rancid taste. I spit it out immediately. It was like sinking your teeth into decomposing roadkill. Ugh. The fatty salmon? I had nothing else to eat, so I snacked on maybe three pieces before I couldn't take it anymore. The salmon also tasted as it had gone past its expiration date. I'm normally not really critical of sushi. I'm pretty flexible with the majority of the sushi quality but I cannot go here anymore. I made a purchase on May 18 at 3:30 PM online two orders of salmon teriyaki one was a salmon teriyaki w/mixed tempura both with house salad. 1 they did not come with salad they came with soup!? 2 the salmon was very dry. This time, we had made reservations over the phone, to be told once we got there that they don't take reservations on weekends. I was a little unsure to try this place out since there were many mixed reviews, but I am glad I did! I ordered to-go and was quite satisfied with the rolls I got! Salmon roll was a good size, I liked the amount of salmon they gave. I was looking through their Yelp photos and came across the same roll but with barely any salmon -- so I am happy how mine turned out! The dragon roll was sooo filling and huge! Honestly, I could've just been full from eating one of the rolls. By the end of my meal, I was super stuffed. The ginger given to me was good as well. Nothing bad to say about this place yet. This place is a joke, I placed a to go order and the restaurant added a 7% tip on the bill on which they hide on the receipt, they also give me the wrong sushi order and to top it off they try to charge for hot sauce. I would understand if they charge for additional hot sauce but they don't even give you one package. The restaurant smells bad, it's dirty, it has bad customer service, overall not a good experience or a good place to buy food at all, save your money and get your sushi fix somewhere. Long overdue review. I was contemplating writing this because I don't like to leave bad reviews. I was in town for work. When I visited a few weeks ago, the wait times were very long. I am a patient person, and understand that wait times can be long when a restaurant is busy. Our server was doing the best they could and kept apologizing. No complaints there. However, I did notice that the manager (maybe the owner??) of the restaurant was yelling and mistreating his employees. I also saw a roach. These are things I cannot stand for. My first time trying this sushi place since it's only 5 min away from me and I left disappointed. I'm a newbie when it comes to sushi, and I came here with my friend who's a sushi fanatic. We both ordered 2 items. Our first items weren't bad, I definitely liked the baked salmon roll I got. His second item he said he found a bone it. I thought they had forgot about my 2nd item, which was the O.M.G roll, since it had been an eternity since I ordered and our waiter didn't come back to check on us even once. When he finally brought my food, he gave a half assed "sorry about that" and never came back. My water cup had been empty for awhile, and my friend was sipping his water since he noticed that our waiter doesn't check on us at all. He only came back to give us the check. Didn't make any sense because the place wasn't super busy at all.. there were a lot of empty tables. My second item was okay, but I think I prefer the baked rolls more. My husband ordered one of their more pricey sashimi dishes that supposedly included fresh cuts of high quality fish. Most of the cuts were ok, Not Fresh though. The Salmon was so disgusting he had to spit it out, he couldn't even eat it because it tasted so bad. Have you ever put an old piece of raw fish in your mouth?? A few other cuts were also inedible because they were chewy and hard. I feel cheated and like I paid to get served the worse fish ever. Recently move to riverside and try to find a good place for sushi. But unfortunately, was disappointed with the food. Ordered Futomaki roll, tonkatsu ramen, Chirashi bowl and tamago nigiri. First, the futomaki roll are loosely made and the ingredients inside are not the right type. Tonkatsu ramen was tasteless. It seems like it was made from instant noodles. The worst was the Chirashi bowl. All the sashimi was partially frozen still, not very pleasant to eat sashimi with chunks of ice in the fish. The only okay item was the tamago. This sushi restaurant was pretty decent to try out. I ordered the shoyu ramen, baked salmon roll and edamame. I really appreciate that the edamame was hot and steamy when it came out. Normally, not a lot of restaurants tend to do it as hot when it comes out, but this one did. In addition, they gave me a lot of edamame so it was really good! As for the ramen, it was honestly whatever. The soup base was pretty bland, the noodles was not soft enough, and the side food was just ok too. I wasn't expecting them to have ramen because it's a sushi restaurant, but overall it's whatever. For the baked salmon roll, I enjoyed it a lot!! They really made the salmon very soft and everything else inside was delicious. I would definitely get it again. Overall, not a bad experience. I understand they are new ownership. I went in today to get some rolls to go. I specifically asked for a sauce. And didn't get my sauce and was already gone when I opened the bag. Nothing worse than a Togo order with no sauce. The rolls were ok. I think the mixed crab they put inside ruins the Rainbow roll. I'm not sure if it's too much mayo or what.
