Apparently this is one of the only (good?) sushi spots in Riverside, so I don't regret coming, but I don't think I'd come back. We arrived around 6:45pm on a Thursday, and there was ample parking out front. However, we did have to wait about 10 minutes for a table (that had been open the whole time since we checked in at the front, so I'm not sure what the situation was there). The servers were friendly and we didn't feel rushed as some others have mentioned, but we ordered some drinks and also asked for wasabi/ginger and they were forgotten on those two separate occasions. The food itself was okay. The salmon, both in sashimi form and in the Rainbow Roll, smelled a bit fishy, which made us question its freshness a bit. The Dragon Roll tasted good with surprisingly large chunks of eel, but it was doused in sauce, which, after the salmon, made us feel like they were potentially masking some questionable quality. I can't comment on how this place compares to other sushi restaurants in the area, but if it's the best, I'd say to just pass on sushi in Riverside altogether and opt for something else. My experience wasn't especially bad, but I just feel as though the $60+ could've been better spent elsewhere and nothing was super redeeming to me. read more

I have been to this place several times (3) over the past 8 months and each time has gotten worse in terms of service and food. The ambiance is the sound of the sticky floors every time I walk across the hall to my seat or out of the restaurant. The first time, I ordered their lunch special bento box with a pork cutlet and spicy tuna roll. The pork cutlet was thinner than a single fried layer and looked like it was smashed to 1/8th of an inch. It was flat and flavorless. Sushi was fine. The second time I went, I opted just for a sushi lunch special with the 5 piece sashimi and a spicy tuna roll. It was good (this is the first star). We had a big party and our server was this young gentleman who was efficient and very polite. (Second star). The third time I went, the server who took us to the table dropped our menus and gave us the menus that were on the floor (the floor had a sticky step no matter where we went). He then left us with our menus and did mot check on us for 15 minutes, which led to us having to grab 3 different staff to order. Once he arrived, we requested a miso soup to start / first thing out, and we actually received our entire meals (nigiri and sashimi + poke bowl) before the requested miso soup. The food was fine, but I think that I can only give this place two stars for my second visit I hope that I will not be back until something changes and the floors get mopped. read more

After finding out that a different local sushi restaurant was not open, we opted to come here because it was close by. The branding and aesthetics of the restaurant made me believe that it would be a little bit on the modern/pricey side, which was okay since we were celebrating a special occasion. As we entered, we were greeted by the friendly staff and they were very accommodating when we needed a bigger table for our increasing party size. The sushi was fresh and the rolls were very good! They gave a mountain of ginger, which was an instant A+ in my wife's book. The "regular" udon came with a fishcake and soft boiled eggs and was very good. The ramen seemed a little underseasoned until I tasted that it was the perfect compliment to the salty pork slices. I wish the portions were a little bigger, but it's not a big deal. We usually skip the desserts at restaurants and opt for other locations to satisfy our sweet tooth, but we stuck around and had a few mochi ice creams and regular and tempura ice creams. The tempura one is huge and is very good. Beware of the whipped cream though, as you need to dig through a mountain of it to find the rest of your dessert. The servers were amicable and helpful. So good! My husband ordered postmates delivery from here because the other sushi place I wanted to order from was closed. It was around 9pm on a Saturday night, so I was thankful they were open. I got two rolls, and let me just say it was hard to narrow down to just two because they have an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu. I ended up choosing an avocado roll and the magoto roll which had deep fried sweet potato, mango, and avocado. Everything was delicious from the sauces to the quality of the veggies and the freshness of the rice. I think my favorite was the big piece of sweet potato tempura that was on top of the magoto roll. It tasted even better dipped into some spicy mayo. Overall, I am so glad I tried this place. I tend to stick with places I know I love when it comes to sushi so that I'm not disappointed, but Sushi R91 really hit the spot and satisfied my cravings. I am excited to try more of their vegan/veggie menu next time! The whole order was packed perfectly. Lots of wasabi, soy sauce, and ginger, and then each roll was in its own little box. It was my first time dining here. There is plenty of parking. There was no wait with our reservation. Our server was nice and had great energy. Sushi! It's pretty much a staple of the Southern California diet. It's so, so much more than just "raw fish". Done right, it's an experience; both a culinary and social one. So the wifey and brother and myself were in the area waiting for a local craft brewery to open up so we could try it for the first time (Eurayle). We had a couple hours to wait and we're hungry so we looked around on Apple Maps to see what was nearby, and Sushi R91 popped up. Following it up with a search on Yelp proved very encouraging, so we gave it a try. The Riverside location is located amidst numerous business/industrial parks so it takes a little poking around to find. Let me say this..the building is kind of like a TARDIS, it's bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. There is plenty of seating; and the atmosphere is bright and airy. The brother and I each had a sushi combo (mine was included in pics), and the wife had a Bento Combo with a Cali Roll, 3 egg rolls, rice, salad and miso soup. So first, the service. The servers and waiters and other staff were all very friendly and helpful and happy to make recommendations. The service was also very quick. The wife had barely finished her miso soup when our entrees were being delivered. Now for the food. Our current favorite place for Sushi is Niko Niko in Redlands; and let me tell you...Sushi R91's was easily on-par with theirs. It was delicious and tasted very fresh. Freshness is very important when dealing with sushi-grace fish. We all enjoyed our meals..with the only minor complaint from my brother being that he felt the wasabi wasn't as spicy as he'd like. A few other observations. They have a full bar with a very good selection of wine and beer (including the hard to find "Orion"!). They also have an interesting selection of specialty cocktails as well. Chatting with one of the bartenders reveals that the place is also fairly popular with UCR students. There's a lower level that they used to use as a party/Kareoke room but they stopped that a few years back when COVID hit and is now used for storage. We all very much enjoyed our lunch here. 4 solid stars to Sushi R91 since this was our first visit and we are leaving room for exploring the menu a bit more. Heck, they even have a wings menu! The sashimi was fresh so that was a plus, but the rolls i felt were so-so. Nothing really memorable about them. The 911 was supposed to be done kind of spicy flavor but was disappointing. Food-wise nothing really stood or for me. What did stand out was the 20-25% gratuity already added on at the end of our bill. We had 5 adults and 1 toddler. Came here today while driving back to San Diego from Las Vegas. They have a good selection of rolls and gave my boyfriend and I extra fish on our nigiri. The drinks were delicious!
