There is lots of parking out front. The dining room is large They have tons of options from appetizers to rolls to sashimi and much more. They even include ice cream in 2 flavors. Matcha and vanilla. The Matcha is so good. I had given them a detailed review the last time i was there. So, please check that out for more info. The fish still tastes just as fresh. Their price seems to be lower than most other all you can eat sushi restaurants. They give you 90min time limit and the service is excellent. It was a good time. Great for groups. I highly recommend Chobop in Costa Mesa.

Takumi Sushi has a new style sashimi category that has 5 slices of sashimi. We ordered the Madai (Japanese Snapper) that is served with white truffle oil, lemon, yuzu and black truffle salt. Very unique and the truffle flavor did not overpower the snapper. We also ordered the Bluefin Tuna, Fatty Tuna, Scallop, Sea Urchin and Eel Sushi. All were pretty fresh, but the Fatty Tuna and the Scallop were the best. For the rolls, we ordered the Mountain Hand Roll (no rice roll) and the Baby Lobster (Crawfish) Roll (baked roll). I love that the Mountain Hand Roll uses a light wrapper and all you taste is fish. This has tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp tempura and spicy crab. Definitely another fav from the menu. All the fish was super fresh. The Baby Lobster Roll is a crab, avocado and cucumber roll and then topped with baked crawfish.Very flavorful and saucy. We were given great customer service throughout the meal, and everyone came to check in on us multiple times throughout our meal. The servers and the manager were all very friendly. They also gave us some recommendations. The restaurant reminds me of Japan because of the Osaka-inspired decor. Traditional Japanese accents and warm wooden tones. I like how intimate the dining area was set up with booths and the tables further away from each other. There is also a bar area where you can sit and interact with the chefs while they work. A really great spot for dates, quick lunch break or dinner catch ups.

My boyfriend took me here two weeks ago for my birthday. Before I say anything else, let me just say that omakase is my favorite meal in the whole in entire world. Needless to say, that's what we came here for. Since it was my birthday and all, we just kept eating and eating (and drinking...), not knowing what the bill was going to come out to. The freshness and quality of the fish is amazing - very comparable to that of the big fish market in DTLA. We had every kind of nigiri/sashimi you could think of - blue fin toro, salmon toro, yellowtail toro, kanpachi, sea bream, aji, sweet shrimp, live uni, live orange clam, the list goes on...all of which was FANTASIC. There was not a single thing I did not like - even the octopus. I usually shy away from having octopus because 9 out of 10 times, it's rubbery. That is certainly not the case here. The octopus was tender and perfectly marinated. The octopus was so big that they deep-fried just the suction part of the tentacle (just one for each my boyfriend and I!) and served it to use separately - this was amazingly delicious and crunchy. 12 courses and 3 bottles of sake later, our bill arrived and my boyfriend was pleasantly surprised to see that it was less than $200. I don't know the exact price, since my boyfriend wouldn't let me see the bill, but all that we has for less than $200 is a STEAL. This includes tip as well. All-in-all, excellent food, extremely fresh fish (top 5 omakases I've had) and great service. Our chef was fun to talk to and catered specific to our taste. We will definitely be back (for a more humble meal). Love! read more

Super amazing sushi. If you are a legitimate sushi eater, you must try this place. It's pricey but you get what you pay for. Every time my boyfriend and I go its usually about $100 for the two of us. But we also order bottles of cold sake and pretty much all sashimi from the chefs menu and daily specials. Favorites: Yellow tell belly, Blue fin Tuna, Sea Bream, Live Uni, Live Octopus, etc. I think we usually sit with Jiro who is super friendly and gives great descriptions on the unique selections before letting us try something new. Haven't had too many rolls here ... not a roll eater .. but I do love a good vegetable roll to balance out all of the sashimi, and they have an amazing veggie roll here. It's stuffed with fresh avocado and asparagus, and their rice is warm and perfect. If you're going on a Friday or Saturday night make a reservation - its small and gets packed quick. Week day lunch or dinner, never had to wait. Always great service. Dying to try that cereal corn flake tempura ice cream dessert thing.... next time. read more

Ok, this place is so over rated. Definitely not A grade quality. This place should be one of those all you can eat places. We came here based on the reviews and found the Toro to have a very strange look and texture. The fish was chewy when it should be "melt in your mouth" the yellow tail was good, I did not order the salmon because they use farm raised fish. I don't eat farm raised fish. I found the people that greeted us at the door to be somewhat indifferent and not very friendly. Service was ok but for the price everything should be good...lol. I am definitely not coming back. Fish - We're coming after you! Yuki does a great job with beautiful fish. The Tuna Tataki with the onions is a great new flavor. We had a "Spice California Roll, with Salmon and Onion topping" HMMMM - This needs a name :). The space is nicely decorated and traditional Japanese music is a great touch. The large sushi bars can seat 14 and its nice if you have a large party. The sushi we had was great tasting and the chef's are easy to talk with and experience new flavors. Still think this is the worst place to get sushi. They are rude to customers, expensive and small portions. Their service sucks. Their seating policy makes no sense at all especially when you have more than 4 people. There are so many choices in Newport/costa mesa. Notice, they never refute anything I say and I promise I will continue to expose your treatment to the public. Don't waist your time. I tried this sushi bar while in costa mesa on business. I ordered the omakase which was on their menu with 3 different omakase options. I didn't receive anything other than 8 pcs of fish that they weren't selling well or strange cuts. There was cartilage i 1 piece. Super chewy skin on a cpl other pieces. Then when i took the itemized copy they chased me down in the parking lot and made me come back so they could make a copy. Not a good experience. read more

I just moved to Costa Mesa and this place is right by my house! I love that it has so many options to choose from and they give you so much variety of sauces when you order to go. The staff there seem like such nice and welcoming people. I have nothing to complain about their food either, it was absolutely tasteful and well made. It's easily a 4 1/2, probably even a 5 but my mom was getting on my nerves in the car so it "rained on my parade" alittle. Driving isn't my favorite thing, so the commute was tough. This sushi restaurant placed 3rd on my list after Ota in San Diego and Nana san in Newport. The fish is fresh and tasty, the chef is extremely nice, and if you don't want to wait for 45 mins like Nana san then this is the place to go. My husband and I had a great dinner here, we asked what's good today and let him to his magic. This is a nice and cozy spot that serves high quality fish. Why not 5 stars? There is definitely better spots in Orange County with more competitive pricing, with larger selection of rolls while still upholding same or better quality as Shunka. We had dinner for 2 and easily spent $100, leaving a bit hungry and saying it was not worth that. Would go back but not first choice. read more

Excellent quality, small and cozy environment and great fish. It is on the pricier side however, so just keep that in mind when you are coming here. I recommend the snapper and other nigiri, as the rolls aren't that unique but it's really the quality of fish that gets the high reviews. read more

It came with a wide variety of different fish and everything tasted pretty fresh. The portion was just right. I was not too full nor hungry afterwards. Overall, it was okay but everything here is a bit pricey so it was a bit much for a casual work lunch.
