I was worried since the place was so small we would have a wait, but we were accommodated for and even moved to a bigger table once it became available. No train but great service. The place is little harder to locate then some but well worth the effort. There is a huge parking lot but that can fill up quickly during lunch time. Sushi spot was suggested by a friend of mine that also suggested the Mexican restaurant across the parking lot. I didn't review that restaurant because I didn't want to waste my data and I could spend my time better watching water evaporate. Place was bad but you came to find Dory. It's not very attractive on the outside but very clean and organized inside. The one problem that will stand out is that the restaurant is small but also very popular. Once seated, a server will bring the menu and another server will you bring water and a bowl of miso soup. Prices are standard about the same as I would pay anywhere else. The rolls are 8 pieces like everywhere else but somehow they pack all this meat in there that it looks more. Piece for piece cheaper then Genki and more flavorful. I know it's a piece of raw fish but this place makes it better. Service is outstanding. Just like overseas, the waiting staff patiently wait on the side till you're ready and once ordered constantly fill your drinks and take away the dirty plates. Ohh and did I mention the food was great. You read that part right? The reason I'm not giving them five stars (don't get me wrong the deserve nine) is because of size. It's does matter. I can't believe I wrote that?!? The limited seating means you may have to wait awhile or just get take out. Be mindful of the hours. They do shut down late afternoon to prep for the dinner rush. TIP? The sushi here is excellent, however, their customer service needs improvement. If I go early, no problem. The lady is very gracious and accommodating. However, I went at dinner time and the lady was very flustered because there were so many orders. I tried calling earlier to put in my order, but no one answered (but I saw a person picking up phone calls while I waited). So I took a chance to go down and order in person. I was next in line and they made me wait while filling other orders (which was ok). So I waited awhile and then the lady got the order for the customer behind me. That was it, I walked away and gave another local eatery my money. It's too bad because I loved their sushi. If you don't go during a busy time, you should be ok. I wanted to like this place. But I'll cut to the chase. We arrived around 6:30pm and got the one open table. It was crowded, which I figured was a good sign on a Tuesday evening. Soon after getting seated, several people lined up at the door and signed the wait-list. I thought another good sign, this place must be popular. We placed our order and waited. And waited. And waited. Three tables opened up, but no one else was called to come in. A woman entered and asked "When can we sit down? We've been waiting 20 minutes." The server said "I can seat you if you want, but we're just trying to clear the other orders first." She and her company got a table. Everyone else remained outside though there were empty tables available. About 30 minutes in I asked our server where are food was, since I saw that the table that arrived after us got their food. She said that there are different cooks at each station so who gets served first depends on what's ordered. We finally got one dish, the unagi donburi. Presentation was good, rice was cold, unagi was tender and delicious. 15 minutes later my chirashi bowl arrived (by now I'd been waiting 45 minutes for my order). Rice was cold, but flavored well. Fish was fresh, though not spectacular, but kudos for real crab legs. Someone who had been seated before us finally got his maki sushi afterwards. The servers were apologetic, though the kitchen didn't seem organized. The food was ok. Maybe it would have been better if they had adequate staff to fill the orders in a timely manner. We were told that new owners were taking over, so they were in transition. Overall, if you're going to eat here, do so when it's not crowded. Or you'll be waiting a very long time for your food. Like 30 minutes to an hour to have your sashimi sliced and served. Our meal cost about $40. read more

Been wanting to check out Sushi Spot for some time now. I've seen friends post about it...I've seen people write awesome reviews about it...now I can say I've experienced it, too! If you're going West and take a left off of Moanalua Road, you'll find Aiea Town Square. As you're going down, go left into a parking lot. You'll easily see Sushi Spot even though it really is a hidden gem that you wouldn't know to look for unless you were purposefully doing so as I was tonight. When my friend and I arrived here, there were already people waiting outside. We wrote our names down on a clipboard that was hanging on the door. A party of 3 and a party of 5 were before us...not too bad considering it was a Saturday evening. We waited not even 15 minutes before getting called in. Not sure what the wait is usually like. There are only about 10 tables inside. First impression about this place was that it was quite warm. There was an a/c and the place isn't that big, but I felt warm all through the evening. As a person who's usually cold in most places, I would think this would be uncomfortable for most people. Eh...small price to pay for the experience you're about to read. The menu has MANY offerings. There are even pictures on the wall to help in your decision making process if you're a visual menu loving person like me. I tried to turn to Yelp's pictures, but decided on just turning to the people who know the food best...the workers. We asked our server what he would recommend. He highly recommended the Dragonfly roll because of the different types of fish that it is topped with. He said that each bite gives you a different tasteful experience. I had seen many people post pictures of this roll on Yelp, so I went along with this choice. He also recommended the Kamikaze and Calvin's Choice for rolls, but they were baked rolls. I was drawn to the Titanic roll because it had salmon (LOVE!), avocado (LOVE!), spicy ahi (LOVE!), cucumber (LOVE!), and tobiko...all my favorites wrapped in one...what an amazing combination! He also tried to talk us into the mussels and oysters, but I really don't like either of those so I didn't even want to give it a try. He did sell us on the stuffed mushrooms (stuffed with spicy ahi and crab). So in the end, we went with the stuffed mushrooms, Titanic roll, and Dragonfly roll. All were spot on! The stuffed mushrooms were huge! They were fried like a tempura and stuffed with spicy ahi and crab. The Titanic roll had delicious spicy ahi inside and was topped with salmon. The spicy ahi kind of overpowers the salmon, but you can still get a taste of its deliciousness. The Dragonfly roll did in fact give you a new and delicious experience with each piece. Half of the roll was stuffed with shrimp and the other half was stuffed with crab. The best part about the Dragonfly roll was that it looks like a dragonfly...how cute is that?!?! The best thing about everything that we ordered was that they didn't need anything extra to add to it. My friend and I put shoyu in our little dishes that we were given, but never even used it. That's how delicious their food is just on its own. Earlier in the evening, our server wouldn't tell us his name until we tried the food. After raving about how he was so right about all the food, he was more than happy to tell us that his name was James. If you ever go here, make sure he's your server. He's super friendly and always checks up on you. He made it a wonderful experience! The friend I went with is an awesome dining partner...he helped to finish off the food when I couldn't eat any more so none of the deliciousness would go to waste. To top that off, he even ordered dessert! James said the fried oreos are delicious and to probably stay away from banana tempura ice cream because it's not as popular. He swore that the fried oreos were phenomenal with vanilla ice cream. James, if you're reading this, you're going to like this...James was right AGAIN! As stuffed as I was from all the food we ate, I just had to try these fried oreos that look almost like an andagi when first presented to you. I couldn't believe how incredibly moist it was! It was like eating a mini oreo cake. Yummers! The vanilla ice cream doesn't come with it, but make sure to order it with the fried oreos because it really does make it taste all that much better! I plan on going back to Sushi Spot because there are so many other options on their menu that I'd like to try. Delicious food...great service...lots of parking...wonderful find! read more

This is located across of Aiea Shopping Center/Aiea Medical Center, where that little strip mall thingy is (look for the Subway across Aiea Medical). The location looks sketchy, but when you go inside it's clean and it's on the small side. There's a lot to choose from, so I just stuck with my staples: tuna salad and spicy ahi nigiri. And i ordered "Calvin's Choice", which I totally forgot what it contained, I know there was spicy ahi, shrimp tempura, and avocado but I can't remember for the life of me what fish was on top. There was a type of sauce on it also. Well, whatever it was -- holy amaze balls, whoever Calvin is.... You are a genius! My gosh, it was so yummy!!! There were 12 pieces to Calvin's Choice, yes, 12 pieces... which is a lot! My brother ordered the "Godzilla" and "Kamakazee". The Godzilla consisted of unagi and whatever they put to make it THE MOST DELICIOUS SUSHI MY TASTE BUDS HAVE EVER TASTED! That's right people, the Godzilla is a BEAST! So so so so good! And there was about 15 pieces, so they definitely took the time and effort to make it tasty. The wait for the sushi took awhile, maybe 15 mins or 20? I was getting impatient, but once I tasted it, it was worth it. You can definitely taste the difference between fresh sushi and genki/kuru kuru. Their spicy ahi was spicy and it was fresh, definitely different but enough to tell myself "Now THAT is true spicy ahi right there!" I have finally found a great yummy sushi spot, I vow to never resort to Genki or Kuru Kuru unless I absolutely have to. This isn't your typical Genki Sushi! I never heard of this place especially because it is on the leeward side and we don't have much places to eat that will make you want more! This place is in Aiea the same area as orange grove and wayland. I only heard of this place from my friend and she ordered some sushi and brought it to my house and OMG it was freaking delish!!! I literally wanted to eat it the next day and which I did! My picks are Calvins Choice, dancing shrimp, spicy ahi, (just look at my pictures) just the names alone are so unique and so tempting to try each and every one of them! The place also has plate lunches and the place is so adorable they have this sushi called dragonfly and they are so cute and make it shaped into a dragonfly!
