Great food. Great service. Really nice atmosphere. They even let us bring our dogs inside.

Absolutely delicious sushi. This is a super cute and cozy restaurant; it looks like anyplace you would find in Japan. They even have a traditional Japanese style room in the back. Perfectly cozy for winter months, solid service, and delicious food. They let my guest and stay for three hours as we were getting caught up. Highly recommend for a wonderful lunch or cozy dinner.

Looking through my camera roll it's amazing how much I love Sushi Tei. Such creativity, so much color, such amazing flavor. We're always treated like family regardless of which day or what time we show up. There's easy parking in the plaza. It's our default restaurant for quote "should we go out for a meal?". During Covid this was the restaurant we picked to support because if only one restaurant survived in Albany, this was the one we wanted. It's amazing how they have doubled in size, built the tatami room, and decorated the interior. I was happy to see that they were fully booked for dinner as they have been over the decades. Their take out queue was quite deep as well. It's nice to know that others recognize the gem that this is.

It was a bit busy during my visit so it took a minute for all the food to be brought out, but the wait was worth it! It was so delicious and all of it was very filling! The decor is also so cool and authentic! the music choice made everything totally immersive! The staff was also super friendly and nice!

So I should update my review. Since my last review, the owner reached out and helped get things squared away with the double charge so I do appreciate it. It did take quite some time to get it fixed but I am just glad it is done. Again, the food isn't bad, service isn't bad, place is clean. Prices for the dishes were reasonable. I just had a bad experience at the payment stage.

Located in a small strip of stores. There is enough parking. Everything we had was so good. The vegetable gyoza, the dinner box that comes with fruit, appetizer (spring roll) seaweed salad ( so good) miso soup and 2 rolls from a list to choose from and the tei roll. Everything was so good. I'll definitely be back once I'm in town again.

INCREDIBLE ON SO MANY LEVELS! Came to NY to celebrate my nephews (2) graduations. We were feeling a need for Sushi and boy did they deliver!! Quaint restaurant tucked in the back, Great vibe, good music, Just an overall great feeling! Now the food, DELICIOUS! FRESH! FLAVOR INSANE! From apps to dessert, it went above and beyond expectations! Staff incredible and very attentive to your needs! HIGHY RECOMMEND!!

Naruto roll with tuna- does not taste at all like tuna

Last few times I ordered from sushi tei the sushi was sub par, some inedible. Today I ordered a Naruto roll, which is your choice of tuna, salmon, or white tuna and rolled with cucumber and avocado. It is a rice less roll. The problem is the tuna doesn't even taste like tuna. And I'll be throwing it out. So that's 15.50 in the garbage. I also ordered a take roll, which has fresh pinkish/ red delicious tuna. Why the difference? Unfortunately it's a Monday and akanomi is closed, sake cafe is too far downtown, but I think I have to give up on Monday sushi if this is the result.

Black spots in the avocado. Quality is slipping.

Downgrading my rating of Sushi Tei due to an apparent decline in quality. Our recent delivery order included several sushi rolls that had bad quality avocado - black spots. This is not something that would pass muster here in the past.

Five stars from the sushi to the service! You pick your ambiance in either the dining room, bar or sushi bar.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Sushi Tei. It is an unassuming location in the back of a shopping strip from the outside, but the atmosphere is fantastic the moment you walk in. They have done a really great job with the decor. A coworker of mine chose to have a large lunch here as her going away, and the staff were really, really nice even though we definitely had a lot going on with separate checks in such a large group. I felt that they handled us all politely and even gladly took some photos for us so they went above and beyond. I will certainly go back for the lunch bento box. It is very affordable for the amount of food in the box. There a ton of options to customize your box to your liking. I went for gyoza, hibachi noodles, an eel roll, and tonkatsu. It was all great - and the tonkatsu was some of the best I've had in the Albany area. While the bento box is perfect for lunch, I would absolutely come to Sushi Tei for dinner as well, as there is a plethora of other appetizing options for their dinner menu.

Upon entering, the girl behind the counter just stared at us. No greeting. No direction on where to sit. No smile. We assumed it was self seating so we found a booth. She came over, poured our waters, still said nothing. We had about 45 mins until the restaurant closed so I'm unsure of what the cold attitude was for, as there were still 4-5 other patrons there eating as well. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings, and I had the same but with meat. Once the plates arrived, the one set in front of me was green, and his not. I figured I would double check to make sure we had the correct ones - I didn't want him to end up eating the meat ones if it could be avoided. Sure enough, the plates were mixed up. Honestly seemed to be done purposefully because it's very clear they are 2 different orders. The texture was chewy/foamy and they also tasted like old grease. Disappointing but we still had soups to look forward to. Our ramen finally arrived and I was hoping it would be the redemption moment of the evening but it wasn't. It really lacked any depth of flavor. Again the meat was chewy instead of tender. More distracting was how we awkwardly felt rushed as the server was shutting off lights and music...again...with at least 15 mins until the kitchen closing time. She seemed annoyed we asked for to go containers. At no point did she check in with us, refill waters, or even crack any resemblance of a smile. I used to love this little spot when I was in college. It was cozy, delicious, inviting. Couldn't have had more of the opposite experience this time around! And for this reason I would not return. I will travel to Colonie for Kuma Ani for better food and MUCH better service. TLDR; this place is extremely overrated

I had the "Crispy chicken in sweet chili sauce" and my wife had the "Mango chicken" (which they accidently made as mango shrimp but quickly corrected). The presentation, as is the rest of the restaurant, is modern. Large white plates, rice in a separate bowl, and absolutely no garnishment on the plate. I enjoyed my chicken and it was sweet and lightly spicy. It had an nice flavor I couldn't place... perhaps their brand of chili sauce.... and the chicken was crispy. My wife's mango chicken was a let down. The mango pieces tasted okay (like canned mango), but the chicken had an unusual flavor/sauce that was a bit unpleasant. She said portions of her chicken were cold and also not crispy, which was also a bummer. The rice was good, and in fact better than some I get at more expensive restaurants. My wife also liked the miso soup that came with the meals. Service was very good. I counted at least 9 employees on a Wednesday night and at one point there were more staff than customers. Food was quick, they were friendly, and the place was clean. The music was a mix of everything but not too loud, which was appreciated. Their menu had lots of nice pictures, which was helpful. No liquor license, so no sake, but lots and lots of bubble-tea. And almost no interaction with sushi chef (and no seating at sushi bar) - all orders are placed and paid for on one of two digital podiums. Oh, yeah. You are probably going to want to rub your waribashi together to break off any splinters or sharp edges. Not the best quality. Unfortunately, the food itself is also unremarkable. The sushi rice was very lightly seasoned. The nori wrap was so tiny on the nigiri tamago and unagi, there is no possibility that it could hold each piece together. Maybe the owner only allows the chef to use 1 sheet of nori each day. The ikura on the gunkenmaki didn't have that little "pop" when you bite on one, confirming the freshness. And the barely spicy salmon maki was partially minced salmon, with a bit too much non-salmon filler. I'm sure the college kids love this place. 2023 05 31. S14.
