This was a a mixed experience for sure. I had Lovely Thai on my list... but I have a Thai spot I love, albeit far from here, so I never got there. The Google results still reference the old name and this Yelp page still shows the reviews for the old name so I'm not sure if this is just a fresh branding or actually a new concept or what. That confusion aside, I placed a takeout order online. Afterwards I realized I was charged a fee for this so if I order here again it'll be by phone... they also ask for a tip despite no service being involved which I think we're all pretty sick of. I ordered a chicken Thai basil entree, wonton soup, and the appetizer sampler. 50+ dollars when all was said and done which seemed like a lot for the quantity honestly. The email said my food would be ready in 30 minutes, it was faster. That's good technically but if you planned around that your food would be cold by the time you picked it up so just head right over after ordering. It only took 15 minutes, possibly 20. Walked in after getting my message that my food was ready but no one was at the counter. I think I waited 5 minutes for a worker to show up and hand me my order which was just sitting in front of me anyway. Can you tell we're not off to a great start? I get my food home and fix myself a plate with some of everything. VERY hit or miss. Let's talk the sampler first. Fried shrimp rolls were pretty good. Executed well if just a bit bland. Egg rolls were sad, just not very good and really no substance to them. Potstickers are small and just ok. Worst Crab Rangoon I've ever had. Tiny, not crunchy, a teaspoon of cream cheese for filling and certainly no discernable crab whatsoever. Hard pass on those and this sampler platter as a whole. The wonton soup was a slight improvement. Nice broth with a strong garlic flavor I enjoyed and tasty dumplings. The pork in it was dry and not worth eating but not awful, but this was basically a small soup for 15 dollars and it was pretty average. I'd expect more quality and/or quantity at that price point. Now, my Thai basil entree was the standout. And it REALLY stood out. This was great! Maybe the best iteration of this dish I've had, and it's my go-to Thai dish. I ordered medium spicy 2 times on their online ordering system, it asks 2 times and I'm not sure why. One was listed as "food prep" the other had no listing so I was, again, confused. I just locked it in twice and hoped for the best and it was perfect! I like it hot enough to clear my sinuses but it's a fine line and this hit the mark. Flavor, heat level, doneness, all nailed. It came with a small white rice that wasn't very fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has a fair amount of tables but it was quiet and awkward in there. They need some music or something.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So yea, this place is kind of all over the place. Would I come back for that Thai basil? I definitely will. Would I recommend anything else I ate? Not really. Overall I wasn't impressed with the price to quantity ratio, and the quality didn't do much to make up for that. Maybe stick to authentic Thai dishes when ordering here and skip the generic Asian dishes. This restaurant is in a very nice strip mall. The staff and owners are very friendly and kind, and the food is delicious! We ordered take out through their online system. What a sad day when I have to update a five star review to a one star review, but unfortunately, a new owner decided to purchase what was once one of the best Thai places in the area and run it straight into the ground, for some incomprehensible reason. Whereas Lovely Thai had a pretty standard Thai menu, Xang Thai and Sushi has decided to offer "fusion", which means a mix of some underwhelming sushi, some overpriced Bento boxes, and a few familiar Thai favorites. They decided to take the dishes that Lovely Thai made uniquely delicious and crafted with care and turn them into generic, cheap slop. The new pad thai offered here is particularly disappointing, with little flavor beyond "spicy". Whereas Lovely Thai offered unique cream cheese puffs, Xang Thai and Sushi offers some sort of disgusting frozen crab rangoon that they decided to thaw out and deep fry, complete with curdled, lumpy filling. Also worth noting that the portion sizes are much smaller than they used to be at Lovely Thai. Online ordering for Xang Thai and Sushi is especially terrible. As shown in the attached image, dishes are priced at zero dollars, and then you pick a protein for a minimum of $15.00 (!). After this, the ordering system prompts you to choose what vegetables you want in your dish, with an individual upcharge for each one. Oh, you wanted bean sprouts, carrots, cabbage, onion, and lime with your pad thai? That will be a $6.00 upcharge according to their website! I chose not to add any vegetables to my pad thai since $15.00 is already more than I wanted to spend on a single dish, and to my surprise, my pad thai came with all of those vegetables anyway. So why does your online menu say that I have to pay individually for each one? Are you reimbursing people the extra six dollars they spent because your menu is poorly worded? Or are you just pocketing six dollars and serving them the exact same product? Other features of the website include pickup only, and an automatically added tip. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything about picking up our food was pathetic and underwhelming. Xang Sushi hasn't even bothered to remove the Lovely Thai sign, still reminding you of the nice family business they shot in the temple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Upon arrival, the restaurant had given our order to someone else and had no idea who we were or what we had ordered, so we had to sit and wait an extra twenty minutes for them to make it all again. They were unsure how to differentiate between orders made from GrubHub, Uber Eats, and their own stupid website. The young man working the register was apologetic and friendly, but the owner, a middle-aged woman, was completely unwilling to even acknowledge that she had mistakenly given our order to someone else, would not accept responsibility, CERTAINLY would not apologize to us as the customer, and left the poor guy at the register to deal with her mistake while she retreated to the back to sit around out of sight. Really pathetic customer service! Good thing the website begged us to tip for this experience! We will literally never return here again. What a disappointment. read more

The employees seemed competent and kind, helped us quickly and efficiently. FOOD: Come for me if you will, but the food was MEH. We ordered Chicken Panang Curry (sauce was basically water. Basil leaves were regular dried basil vs. fresh Thai basil, and were 1,000% inedible. There was also less than one chicken tenderloin / strip in the entire dish for $14 - inexcusable). Chicken Teriyaki Bento ( Bento carry out box SUCKED - all sushi and salad was ruined by the sauce that should have been on the chicken itself. Like the above entree, there was less than 1/2 a chicken tenderloin / strip here, overly dried and mostly inedible. Thai Basil Chicken (same dried inedible basil leaves, and same issue with portion size / amount of chicken - otherwise meh). Salmon Sashimi (HAD SMALL BONES IN IT - eating hazard - full. STOP). VALUE: Total for 4 people takeout was $98.00. We got incredibly small portion sizes and inexcusable protein sizes, combined with pre-made sauces with dried ingredients. With the average entree being greater than $15 per, they're going to have to either price it better for as-is, or bring something better and fresher to the table. I use to love this place till last Saturday. Now I only like it. The sushi is really good and a pretty good value. I unfortunately made the HUGE mistake of getting their nightly special. Blue Crab fried rice. $22.00 and sadly I still ordered it. It was a pile of rice barely fried like almost still pure white with some frozen peas and carrots. That's it. There was a super small egg pr part of an egg as it was so little and about 2 teaspoons of crab sprinkled on top with the 1/2 of scrambled egg. The worst valued meal I have EVER bought. Lovely Thai wasn't very lovely. I ordered takeout since their in-dining is currently closed. The food was a huge dissappointment. Prices are reasonable but the quality of the food is low. I ordered the pad thai, spring rolls, and Tom yhum soup. I was most excited for the soup but it literally was just broth. Only a few vegetables and the majority was filled with broth. What i like most about this type of soup is all the veggies other places include but that is not the case here. Next, the spring rolls were not fresh and did not have a good taste. It was almost like eating rubber. Lastly, the pad thai was extremely greasy with an old oil flavor. I did appreciate how big the shrimp were but the overall taste of the dish was not good. First, it is confusing that Yelp is combining the old reviews for Lovely Thai, which used to be at this address, and reviews for Zhang Thai and Sushi, which has been at this address now for a couple of years. Different owners! Different menus! Even different recipes for the same menu items! They are two different restaurants! We first started going to Zhang Thai and Sushi about once a month for the first 4 to 6 months after they opened. We wanted to support them. At that time, there were multiple issues with almost every order, and although I went and spoke with them, things did not get better, so we stopped going for almost 2 years. Today I went with a group of friends who wanted to try it out. Six of us went for lunch. And it was delicious! Great service. The food was exactly what each of us was expecting to receive. The portions were larger than we expected. Hot things were hot. Cold things were cold. Flavor blends were delicious and the ingredients were fresh and well-prepared. I highly recommend them now, and I am looking forward to returning again soon. As others have mentioned, the inside is a bit disorganized for no obvious reason so for that, I would not recommend dine-in service. The food was just okay. I ordered chicken pad thai, a side of fried rice, and steamed vegetables. I only received the chicken pad thai and fried rice. I was not charged for the steamed vegetables nor did they offer to make them when I let them know I did order them. They just said "next time". The chicken pad thai was edible, but not great. The chunks of chicken were few and far between. No limes. No peanuts. Overall, it was lackluster and I would not recommend. The same could be said for the fried rice. This is the first time I've been here since the name change and new ownership. It was a great experience. I had the Fresh Spring Roll for an appetizer and Pad See ew as my main. Everything was fresh and well seasoned/spiced. I ordered my Pad see ew " medium spicy" it was spicy but not overwhelming. The staff was attentive but not intrusive. Crab Rangoon is not the same, it was a bland semi-crisp dough and almost no crab mix inside, threw most of it away, and sauce is not as good/tangy as before. Ordered a tempura shrimp bento box to go. Take out was ready on time. Very odd greasy flavor that left an aftertaste in my mouth for the rest of the day. Miso soup was horrible. Tasted like mucky water. The tempura bell peppers would have been really good if not for the bad grease flavor. Salad was a small spring mix with no real dressing flavor at all. TBH I wound up throwing most of it out. The sushi was in par with grocery store bought. Not sure if there's more to the story here and maybe I'm missing something but it's hard to go back and try something else at 20-30 bucks a pop. read more
