I used to live across the street from Sushi Town and went to this place at least once a week. I now live in Irvine and make the 15 mile trek at least once a month to get the best sushi and service that I have found in Orange County. They have reasonable prices, excellent service, high quality sushi made by Jin the head chef. Only downside is that the secret is out on this place, and can get quite crowded at peak hours, show up early, or for lunch if you want a good seat at the bar. As stated in another review, sit at the bar if at all possible. This might not be the fanciest sushi joint in the OC, but definitely has the best bang for your buck, and the crew that work there are good people. read more

I've been going to this place for over 2 years. The sushi is really good and the prices are really affordable. A special roll is around $8-10, which is cheaper than a lot of other places. However, I would stay away from the yakitori noodles- the broth was wayyy too sweet. MY FAVORITE PLACE IN NEWPORT FOR SUSHI! Besides the EXTREMELY slow service, the fish is always fresh and delicious. My friends and I get a Spicy Crunchy Baby Lobster roll substitute Salmon Roll on bottom every time we go, and they get it right every time. I do not recommend going during the dinner rush or after 5PM on the weekends. There's no point in making a reservation because if they're busy, they'll make you wait anyways. Seriously the worst experience eating here. Took a long time to get our food and drinks had to ask multiple times for extra things we needed even water. The worst part of the whole thing was finishing my Sake and discovering the whole bottom of my Sake glass was covered in MOLD. (Wish I had photos) The waitress claimed she didn't check the glass before she poured the Sake. Honestly disgusting and was so worried all night about how sick I was going to be. One of the best sushi restaurants around! A comment I overheard from another customer in the restaurant, "this is the dopest sushi restaurant in Orange County" and I have to agree! When we arrived it was busy and we had to wait for a table. The hostess tried multiple times to seat us outside then at the sushi bar but we opted to wait for a table. The waiter was also very attentive and friendly. I had the jamming roll and it was amazing! This place is also super affordable with rolls mostly under $10! In fact, maybe too much sashimi. It had tuna, salmon, and some other fish. The quality was good, soft, and not fishy. The salad also had a good amount of delicious dressing.. unlike many restaurants who drizzle a tiny bit of dressing. I like mine with lots of dressing :D Baby Lobster Roll: SO MUCH LOBSTER. I was surprised at how much lobster was covering the roll. It complimented the roll really well and had a really yummy sweet sauce. Maru Roll?: The one with baked scallop and topped with spicy tuna and some delicious sweet sauce. SOOO GOOD...... again lots of scallops. Overall, I think you get your moneys worth with the taste and the amount of food they give you! They have many other rolls that I will go back and try.. Some of the most consistent sushi around town. Red Eye Special is a must. Salmon & Toro sushi are amazing. The only negative remark I can think of is how the waitresses close up 30 minutes or earlier sometimes if it's a slow night instead of always at their regular hour. Took an hour and a half to get our food, no refills, no ginger, no wasabi, and our sushi rolls were sitting at the sushi bar for 20 minutes. Went here on a Sunday for dinner and it was pretty delicious and a great value. Started off with the Miso, which was pretty standard and didn't stick out in anyway, good or bad. The sushi itself was real fresh and the pieces of fish were more than generously sized. We had some yellowtail and albacore, both buttery and fresh. Roll wise, we had a tempura roll with shrimp, crab, and albacore in it. I think it also had some dynamite sauce on top. The roll tasted great and the shrimp came through more than any of the other components. The only downside was that the roll lacked some crunch (apart from the tempura) which really would've added a lot. We also had the Hawaiian Roll, which I believe had yellowtail, tuna, and japanese veggies in it. The roll had a good, clean taste, but was a little too citrus-y. The fish was clean though and the roll was a good light way to finish the meal. The service was fine, but the restaurant itself was a little loud, so be aware of that if you're bothered by that type of thing. The prices were more than fair, I think we walked out having spent 40 bucks with tip (2 of us). While some things missed, it was more than adequate for the price. read more
