We are frequent customers of Sushi Train. We think the food is great! The owners know us because we have been coming here for so long and they take great care of us. I read a lot of the other reviews and I get what some of the people are saying-sometimes the service can be off-but everyone that works there has been pretty friendly and they do try hard if you ask for something. Today we went for lunch and the guy at the front with the beard-I think his name is Lee- knows we are regulars and knows we like a booth. Some people were getting ready to leave, but to help speed things up he offered to take our order while we were waiting. Thought that was so nice. We don't usually take things off the train, though when we have everything has been good. We usually order the same thing-the EBI shrimp tempura roll, salmon nigiri, Salmon Roe Nigiri, salmon sashimi, a tuna roll and a philly roll. Love them all. I have had their egg drop soup and it is good too. I used to get their veggie stir fry a lot and that is really flavorful too. Some people complained about the service on the other reviews-I think part of it is due to a language barrier with some of the people that work there (may be the owner and he is super nice). Today I asked for something specific (an extra plate for my hot tea bag) and he didn't understand at first but worked hard at pleasing us til he understood. We go here for the food, not necessarily the atmosphere. It is not a bad atmosphere, it just isn't dressy or trendy or anything. We think the Sushi Train is a good value. read more

My mom and I went here once and neither of us liked it. We ordered two or three different rolls and they all tasted super fishy, and not at all in a good way. It was really odd because both of us had heard people who like this restaurant. It makes me want to give it another chance, but I'm just not sure I can... Honestly, sometimes just driving by it puts a bad taste in my mouth. I love sushi, and I'm not even extremely picky about it, like some sushi lovers are (I'll even eat grocery store sushi now and then). Unfortunately, this just wasn't good :( I truly hope it was just a bad day for them, or maybe the particular rolls we ordered, but like I said... Like Jazi said below, I imagine the rolls spinning around a while are less fresh. Mine was fine. Ordered the Bengal roll. A Little too large a roll & a little too sauced. Food was good. The service and cleanliness were terrible. The area around the train was full of crumbs. We had to wait for them to clean a table for us to sit and it still had rice on it and was sticky. The bathroom floor was mostly soaked. I didn't want my kids to touch anything and I promise I'm not a clean freak. I had debating on going for a couple of months because of the mixed reviews and decided to finally try it for ourselves as that's the only real way to know. Less than half of the sushi on the train was marked so we never knew what we were getting. We ordered a few rolls from the menu and they were okay. What a disappointment. Traveled from OKC to try this place and we were so let down we only spent $16 before we left! The coverings that were on the sushi plates were dirty. The waitress was smug and the bathrooms.....gross. Not to mention the cook in the back had a beard down to his belly and was serving food without it being covered, isn't that a health code violation? This was such a fun experience. You get a menu and a little train comes around with certain items. The menu indicates a "T" if the item will come on a train. The prices range from $1.00-3.99 per plate. Each plate has a different color indicating a different price range (black=$3.99, etc). Overall, the sushi tasted amazing and it was both fresh and well-prepared. If you don't want an item from the train, you can order right off the menu. The staff was patient and kind. We enjoyed the following sushi items: Krusty Krab, TNT, Sunny Pop, and Pink Lady. If you are looking for a fun experience, try this place! You won't regret it! read more

I actually liked this place. Not only is it unique & fun, it had pretty decent sushi !! They basically put 1/2 a roll on the train & you grab a plate as it goes by. Take a look at the menu if you want to see what you are getting. We have to wait some for the specific sushi that I wanted. But we took several plates. The plate color tells you the price. It seemed pretty reasonably priced. My husband & I both ate & hot what we would consider 5 rolls & our total was like $38. 5 stars for the experience, 3 for the quality of sushi. It isn't the best sushi you'll ever have, but let me tell you it is still tasty! And no where else (except maybe a buffet) do you get to sit down and immediately be able to eat! The train is super fun and I would absolutely trust it over a buffet. The chefs and waitstaff are on hand and attentive. We had no problems with temperature of rolls, and the price truly is reasonable for what you get. That being said, it's easy to spend a lot because of tricking yourself into thinking you want ONE MORE PLATE. But price per roll would be similar to that of a similar sushi restaurant. How it works: there are different colors of plates that signify different prices. Pay attention to these because there are a lot fewer options in the cheaper plates. The train comes around and you grab what you want off. You remove the lid and little sign indicating the roll you grabbed and putting aside for the waitstaff the pick up. You keep your plates until you're ready to leave, at which time a waiter will add up your total and you can go pay. Easy! And super fun. They also have an actual menu to order from and do to go orders if you are interested in that! read more

I honestly can't assess the food. I never ordered. We were in Tulsa for kids sports and reviews led me to sushi train. I was unimpressed immediately upon pulling up but do not like to judge a book by its cover. However, immediately when I walked inside I was disgusted. The smell was a mix of chemical and fish and it was pseudo empty. The floor was sticky and overall, I have never been in a more unclean restaurant. They seated us at a booth which was so filthy I didn't know what to do. The booth was covered in soy sauce. I asked for a rag, she offered a napkin. Ultimately it was so terrible, my family and I just left and never sat down. I have never shared a review but just feel like people should know. I wish we had known. I went to Sushi Train for fun with my husband, because he had been there before and loved it. I've been to every sushi shop in town but this one. I was extremely skeptical, because the idea of sushi on a rotary belt instead of being made to order seemed... risky. I wish my suspicions were unfounded, but unfortunately I was in for a rough night. We came inside to a very busy restaurant, and waited a long time to be seated. The dinner rush. We contemplated getting pizza from a shop nearby, but decided to wait it out for the experience. We were seated and served by an extremely distracted waiter who got us our drinks a good 15 minutes after we ordered them (sodas). From there I was whisked away on a magical ride of impulse, grabbing random rolls and enjoying the randomness of it all. The rolls were tasty, but many were warm. I brushed off the idea and tried to get rolls that were cooked to minimize the risk. A fruitless effort. Later that night as I was trying to sleep, a pain began to evolve in my abdomen. I thought it was just acid in my stomach and took Tums, drank water. For the next seven hours I was vomiting uncontrollably. I've never gotten FOOD POISONING, so I tried to beast it out. When I got to the point that I was unable to hold down water and exhibit other symptoms of dehydration, my husband took me to the hospital. I was vomiting so uncontrollably that they initially thought I had alcohol poisoning. And I didn't. I hadn't imbibed in quite a while and I don't. It was the sushi that was mishandled that gave me one of the most maddening nights of my life. I don't recommend Sushi Train, I IMPLORE you to not go there. PLEASE do not risk your health for a place that only cares about the dollar in your pocket. I'll admit that it was tasty going down, but coming back up, it was an absolute nightmare. read more

This place used to be my go to for a quick and delicious bite to eat. Lately though, service has been somewhat slow and for me personally, it has been difficult to eat off of the train due to shrimp allergies. Most of what is on the train is either fried (which I don't care for) or has shrimp (this is a solid 85%). This forces one to order off the menu and defeats the purpose of a fun train experience and the ability to try the variety of rolls they offer. Price point however is VERY reasonable. Waited almost an hour for 4 rolls. We kept asking our server how much longer, and everytime they said it's almost ready until she finally came over and told us they hadn't even started our order because there was a big order ahead of us. Would've been nice to know when we ordered that there was a big order ahead of us. A factual walk-through of my experience at Sushi Train and how this establishment could have earned 5 stars. First, we were fortunate to find a parking spot close to the entrance. Otherwise, we'd be parking at Chili's Restaurant which is less than 100 feet from Sushi Train. The building itself is very old, somewhat dilapidated, it could use some attention as it relates to trim boards, windows, and maybe could use some overall updating. The host greeted us with an honest smile and welcomed us in and quickly found us a booth adjacent to the sushi train. It's not a ploy, there is an actual train with sushi riding on a raised track through the interior of the restaurant. The sushi chefs were busily assembling multiple types of 4-piece sushi rolls that they would place on the train for people to select. A wide variety of freshly made sushi rolls adorned the train. As soon as you sit you can begin eating. This is definitely a plus when you are hungry. Less than 60 seconds into the building and we were seated with food in our mouths. We had 6 plates of sushi: crunchy California, the Paradise, shrimp tempura roll, and the Pink Lady to name a few. All were delicious! The thing for me about sushi is freshness and quality of ingredients. Every roll was fresh and tasted amazing. We also ordered a rice plate of teriyaki chicken and a skewer of chicken yakitori. The chicken was freshly grilled with good flavor. The wait staff was happy and helpful and pleased to answer any questions we had. Now, I like hole-in-the-wall places, but too many holes is too much. For example, the restaurant seemed cluttered with supplies as if there was no storage for simple things. Bathrooms that open to the dining area is a mistake in architecture. Lastly, the train was clocked at about 8 inches per second. A better speed would be about 4 inches per second so you could remove plates without fear of derailing the locomotive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will be returning for another trip on the Sushi Train. read more

Thinking back to my experience here, I pretty much set myself up for failure on this one. So yes, I blame myself. I came with specific high expectations after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi (documentary about Jiro Ono, THE sushi master, MUST watch for sushi-lovers). After dreaming all night of sushi and being still on the look-out for sushi places around town, I decided to indulge my craving the very next day. No sushi in Tulsa will ever be as good as Jiro's (obviously) but I was also particularly excited about the popular conveyor belt (actual train here) sushi. Thinking of the stream of plates winding through on a cute train waiting for me to grab them as I pleased sounded very fun. I was NOT mistaken. It is awesome to sit there and try to get a glance at what is on the sushi-go-round and attempt to grab them next time they passed by before someone else does. A bit thrilling and definitely the highlight here. I'm sure kids would love that too. They have a color system for customers to identify the different prices on the belt (pretty simple and clever). It is very affordable. Now, let's think of some logistic difficulties that the train might bring. If sushi does not get eaten fast enough, it will get dry after rotating for a long time. I am unaware of what system is in place (if any) to remove sushi that has rotated for too long. I tried FOUR different rolls (six if you include my date's) and none of them satisfied my sushi craving. They were edible but mediocre. None of them truly wowed me, and let me tell you, after watching Jiro, I was begging to be wowed. I do have to say I was impressed by the options of different levels of "hotness", that is fun for any spiciness-lover. Sadly, I left disappointed and un-sushi-satisfied. I guess special orders are available and you don't have to sit on the bar with the train, but what's the fun in that? So! If what you want is fast-food sushi and you're in it more for the fun experience rather than quality, this is the place to go. read more

I came when sushi off the train was half off (so that definitely adds a star to their rating). Staff was really nice and accommodating. We wanted to sit at the bar, so we could watch the train (it's amusing, you have to admit). The bar was full, but a server made room for us and pulled a stool up. We also wanted egg rolls, but didn't see them on the train. A waitress ordered them straight from the kitchen for us, so we got them nice and hot. I'm visiting from out of town so I don't know what's what In Tulsa. 1) grab a menu and ask for a soy sauce tray and wasabi / ginger & chopsticks. It took me 15 min to get the basics that you need at a literal grab and eat place. 2) order off the menu. The train idea is cute, but the plates are small. The sushi is barely cool from the train. So if you like it cold- order fresh from sushi chefs. 3) Get up to order from anyone you can find. - or you will wait 25 min to order anything at all. 4) The prices of each plate(color/pattern) are up on the wall. I only saw this as I was paying. All in all, the sushi was ok, the idea is fun, but the general things you expect from a sushi restaurant (any waiter, chopsticks, soy sauce cups, a drink) will leave you upset, frustrated or confused. Like.... Am I supposed to get these things myself? Think twice if you're hungry or a sushi freak. Note: I'm here on a Monday, not a busy Friday. No idea how they keep people coming back. I honestly don't understand how this place is operational/ppl are defending it in the reviews. Was in the mood for a very casual sushi place after a very rough day & thought it would fit the bill. Expectations were already low but was even still shocked by appearance when entering. Felt like we had stepped back in time by 3 decades. Staff was friendly and bless their hearts for trying but this place needs a serious makeover. The sushi was not good quality & the whole atmosphere was too uncomfortable to last more than 15 mins. Based on the appearance of restroom was also surprised the health score is as high as it's reported to be. I hope they can pull it together. This place is me and my daughters favorite place for sushi. The staff is great and the food is great as well. It can get busy and the seating around the train can fill up quick. But we've sat in tables not directly in front of the train and just walk over to the train to get something. If you don't see something on the train you like, you can order train size portions of sushi or full rolls off the menu. They are very accommodating this way. it's also a great way to try different rolls without having to buy a whole roll. read more
