tldr - Service was the worst. Didn't get all my order, and what did come out took 5x the usual it took in the past. Waitress was spacey and inattentive. Their new special sauce that is now added to most rolls is vinegar and hot chili paste, maybe mixed with something bitter that takes over the taste of the roll. I've loved this place since it opened. it was a nice place, casual, family friendly, and a lot of options for a decent price. i could get a variety of smaller rolls, wife wife could do the same, and then the kids could do a bit of sushi, and then sides as well. Well, its look like they are giving the appearance of going upscale, but lower the assortment of rolls to choose from, raise the price of the meals, and give you less. Worst was my last visit. Not too crowded, but I waited a long time to be seated. Waitress hands me a menu and if I would like anything to drink. I asked for water as many do, and she left for a long time, disappeared, then hanging out with the sushi chef, then moving napkins around. After finally comes to take my order, with no drink. After I order, I wait another long time, waitress again fidgeting at the counter, moving unused bowls around. I ordered the full meal, so I kinda expected things to come out a bit at a time. Salad, potstickers, sushi, entree and soup. Everything comes at once after a long long time but the miso soup, and still no water. I try to be patient and not say anything. Halfway done, she brings the water, no apology, no appreciation for my patience, just "and here is your water". She eventually brings out the check and I ask about the soup. Again no apology, just 'and the soup'. I eat slowly, hoping it will eventually come, but then I see her back to folding napkins, getting water refills for other, changing the direction of the chopsticks on another table. I can see she forgot about the soup, and even eye contact does not jar her memory. Not even when I go to pay my bill. Now to the sushi. They seem to have gotten into the habit of adding some special sauce to most of their rolls. Can't remember its name, but it is awful. I think it is vinegar, some bitter herbs, and straight hot chili paste. I can take hot, but none of the rest of my family can eat any rolls with it. It just takes over the taste of anything else. I have never sen this sauce unless you ask for straight siracha or chili paste. Weirdest part of the experience. There was a kid all in black, super short hair, going back and forth between the back kitchen and outside. He is never carrying anything out or back in. Just makes the determined stroll 5-6 time while I was there. I don't see me or my family ever making that short neighborhood trip again. Sad. read more

I came here because it is new, and also a little bit because I missed the sushi place that used to be here, and this is definitely far and away one of the best sushi places in the area. They have many, many options and the ingredients are high quality. Try their Tasty Combo, you get to pick three items so you can get a good feel for their food. They also offer other entree options, such as bulgogi and tonkatsu. If you enjoy Japanese and Korean food, this might be your new favorite place! There are also many great dessert options! This was truly a surprise. Even though the ratings were high, I was biased and was not expecting to like Sushi Up. I'm glad I decided to try it and proven wrong. It is not the best sushi in town but it is quite good. Not too much rice, good tasting sashimi, and fresh veggies. Service was efficient and friendly. The restaurant looks nice. My one daughter really liked the mural on one wall and the other fell in love with the sushi clock--I may have to get one for her for Christmas. We got take out from here and will never go anywhere else for Sushi! 3 AMAZING rolls for $12? That's can't be beat. These guys are authentic and so flavorful. They have tons of options. There's something for everyone. Our favorite was the Monkey Brain roll (no, it doesn't have literal monkey brains ). The sunshine roll was refreshing and super lemon-y. We had a California roll, Monkey Brain, sunshine roll, their pot stickers, egg rolls, and their California crunchy and all were excellent quality and their price was amazing for the quality. I was going to start this review by saying something along the lines of "how do you know when you have too many sushi places? You get spots like this" but then considered that was too harsh. They try really hard here, don't always hit it, but there is considerable effort, even though much of it is touch and go, such as the paper prints of dishes hanging above the sushi chef's areas... This place is aiming at a couple things. The first is fast, so that means a lot of rolls are pre-made and sitting there, just waiting for you, in plastic. Second, they are clearly adopting the Applebee's/Chili's motif of choosing various dishes for a set price. There is a laundry list of stuff you can choose on their 3 for $10 thing, but as a few other reviewers have noted, the sushi is not generally worth getting. I had a number of things and the squid salad and the sesame balls were probably the best of them, though not anywhere near the best I've ever had for either. Calamari came out with the flavoring in the (not tempura) breading and no dipping sauce at all. Musubi came out in a very Japanese style, which is exactly the opposite of what it should be. Taste was ok, but something that sloppy is not a good thing to serve as a whole piece. I also wish they could combine the seaweed salad with the squid salad, but I guess I could just order 1 of each and combine them. As to the sushi, it wasn't outright bad, but in no way will I consider getting it again. Rice was hard and chewy, nearly stale in texture and taste. Fish is clearly not of the fresh variety, hence why you see such a multitude of fusion choices. Cover it in sauce or cook it? You betcha. Does it work? Ehhhhh. It probably matters what time you come in on that. Green tea was also a total miss. Food was overall just ok. I like the idea of being able to choose from a variety of dishes for a set price, which is smart and I like their overall effort, but the food quality was just not there for me, on any of the dishes. Super impressed! I rarely deviate from my trusted sushi spots, but a group of us went and took a chance on Sushi Up...and it was great! 3 rolls at $9.99 is a pretty solid deal. Granted, most rolls are four pieces when I'm used to 5-6 piece rolls, but this way we were able to try multiple rolls and not feel bloated. I got 6 rolls, feel very comfortably full, and loved everything I ate. Gotta strongly recommend the Frontier, the happy, and the Sakura. Seriously good. The Oregon is also incredibly good to balance other, more decorated rolls with. Very clean and minimal, but a good full taste. Service was also top notch, and the sushi came out crazy fast. The menu was great the first two pages were all sushi rolls- choice of any 3 types of rolls for $9.99. We ended up getting 3 rolls and the bento box which was $13.50. The bento box was amazing- came with miso soup, 8 California rolls, a cucumber salad, tempora vegetables, gyoza, huge amount of rice and teriyaki chicken (you choose between beef or chicken). The jalapeno roll was a new experience for me: wrapped in a jalapeno instead of rice, lending it a really fresh snap. I'll be back for sure.
