I walked in here with a few friends thinking it would be nice to go to an all you can eat sushi buffet for only 25 dollars each person! Well we were wrong. What should have been 150-160 dollars at most came to a bill of 186 dollars. While someone of you don't mind the extra 20 was a bad experience for us broke college students. We never ordered any drinks nor did we order extras that costed money, so why did they charge us an extra 36 dollars from the actual price of everything? Yes, that was the service fee. I understand that people think its common sense to "tip" the waitress, the service wasn't that great at all because they really rushed us, and then we were obligated to pay for them. Instead of 25 dollars per person we had to pay 31 dollars, which most of us were really unprepared for. The food was good, but the sashimi felt lacking and a little bland. If anything i recommend Teaneck Sushi Buffet rather than Sushi X, because they seem to give a better solid price for what you're expecting, and the quality of the sushi is about the same. If you can eat enough, it is an excellent value. Like other places with all you can eat sushi, if you leave rolls or items on the table when done you will be charged additional at the a la carte price. As such, they suggest (and it's common sense) not to over order, because you can always order more as you go. Everything comes out extremely fresh and FAST! The staff is very attentive, and will come by to check and see if you need anything or take plates away, several times. TL;DR: Solid sushi, not much variety, but a full stomach for $25/person. Overrated. Of course this is going to the thefoodcouplenj's first review. This place might be our most frequently visited spot. I'm going to tell you a quick anecdote describing a typical night at Sushi X. We walk in (you can make reservations but make sure your party is greater than 4), sit down, and they ask "Have you been here before?" ... "Ugh YEAH?" Happens every time. All you can eat sushi for $25 per person. You get access to the "Kitchen Menu" as well as the "Sushi Menu" and also a dessert menu! The kitchen menu has an assortment of different options - chicken teriyaki, peppered tuna, dumplings, edamame, etc. This is a great option where you have people who aren't too into sushi (but why invite them to Sushi X then...) I digress, the sushi menu has all the basics. You have many choices here, sashimi, sushi, maki, etc. Here is where I have my beef, (or should I say fish?) - the variety of ingredients in their sushi is inadequate. Essentially, the rolls are just different permutations of ingredients i.e. avocado on the inside/outside, salmon outside/inside, tuna on the inside/outside, etc. That all being said, we order our favorite roll, the Tiger roll. The Tiger roll has a unique light green soybean paper with big pieces of salmon, tuna, avocado, and crunchies in the middle - a must. Other rolls of great note, we recommend the "X"-roll, salmon sashimi, and jalapeno yellowtail. The "X"-roll is deep fried (enough said). Salmon sashimi is foodbf's favorite - great protein and fats. The jalapeno yellowtail roll is a diamond in the rough - great subtle spiciness. After our bellies are full we get the green tea and red bean ice cream. These are great to sooth your stomach after eating so much! The reason I'm rating this as a 4 has to be because of the store-front. Sushi X either needs to move to a larger location to accommodate more customers, or expand. We've gone countless times and have had to wait because of how small the location currently is. Also of note, the place seems a little grimy and dirty - a hole in the wall kind of feel. Overall, we don't recommend Sushi X - not for a first date though because you're going to be in a food coma after eating so much sushi. read more

One, because the food was fresh and two because it's one of the few sushi buffet restaurants in the area that is made-to-order. I greatly appreciate the broad menu and the made-to-order idea but I'd rather go to Sakura Bana and get quality sushi a-la-carte. It's a super narrow small sushi place with street parking. It's usually pretty empty so you get to choose where you want to sit unless the hostess seats you. There's always a weird urine smell in the front so I always like to sit in the middle of the room or towards the back. The floors always seems sticky like they haven't mopped it in awhile. Besides their appearance, they have a large variety for their appetizer menu and sushi menu. I especially love their kani salad, fried scallops, fried calamari, crab wontons, beef ribs, and shrimp tempura. Their sushi selection is also really nice. However I felt that if you ordered a spider roll, only two pieces contained crab while the remaining four was just rice and cucumber. It's a hit or miss with some of the sushi. Service is average. I guess it depends on which girls are working because I've encountered poor service to really good service. If you love unlimited sushi including hot and cold food from the kitchen then this is the place for you! Been coming here for years and it's always great. You get a "sushi menu" and a "kitchen menu" each with spaces to write in how many orders you want of each specific item. But remember what you can't eat they charge a la carte for. Although they're usually pretty forgiving and if you leave a few pieces it's fine. I will say the reason I only gave it 4 stars is because the service isn't always amazing. But hey you're going there for the food right? They also include a small cup of ice cream (vanilla, green tea, and red bean) which usually I never have room for, but it is pretty good ice cream. The sushi was always so fresh and he gave you complementary sashimi while you waited, or he let you try some new fish they got in and informed you about it. It was a culinary experience and a great deal with the all you can eat. I've been back to sushi x 3 times in the last 3 years. Unfortunately this is where the review turns south. There seems to always be a new owner/management ; they can't figure it out . The portions are ridiculous for all you can eat(90% rice 10% fish). When you eat their "all you can eat" you get a feeling that you're only there to help them pay rent that month. Half the time staff is eating their lunch in the open and on the phone, and again the portions are ridiculous . Never again, gave this place way too many chances.
