New to Boynton Beach, I was looking for my new sushi/Japanese spot. This is not it. If you are a sushi/Japanese connoisseur I do not recommend. The dumplings tasted like frozen dumplings. The beef teriyaki was AWFUL- The so called beef appeared not a beef color. It was an off whitish gray. The portions were small. We ate there twice- 1st for sushi - unimpressed, we tried again for teriyaki takeout. We have now been doubly assured- the food is flavorless, and not tasty. I ordered a fried tofu with mixed vegetables. I thought it was delicious. My father ordered a fried rice dish and my mom had tempura. My sister had a roll with a tempura potato inside. Came in Friday night with my family. There was live music outside which was a very nice touch. When we walked in, the hostess blew me away. She had such a welcoming and warm energy (Which you don't see often). I ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was amazing. The restaurant takes every COVID-19 precautions, which was really nice to see. I ordered take out and before starting my order I stated several times I was vegetarian. I ordered a veggie roll (very good), avocado roll, edamame and asked if I could have the veggie gyoza (fried). i explained that if they had pork in them, I didn't want them. The person taking my order reassured me that they had two options - pork or veggie and I said the veggie since i'm vegetarian .... I got home, opened my order and had steamed gyoza which already was wrong but then I took a bite and it was Pork. It was really unfortunate that I stated several times that I was vegetarian and only wanted veggie gyoza but was given Pork ones. I called the restaurant and they were able to give me a refund for the wrong gyoza order. The customer service was good which is why I gave a 3 star instead of 1. I pre-ordered and when I arrived the food wasn't ready. I was told that they were completely swamped, however the restaurant was half full. Regardless, I waited another 20 minutes or so at the bar where the bartender poured a generous glass of Hibiki. I appreciated that, if it wasn't for the delay in acquiring my food they would have gotten 5 stars. It truly was great quality sushi, I suggest the Salmon skin roll for those adventurous types. Sushi Yama is one of the best places in the area for sushi. I typically get sashimi and once in a while I get a roll of some sort, but the food has been quite consistent for me.
