I was at this restaurant Friday night and as busy as it was we had phenomenal service. And the food is truly exceptional. Others with poor reviews should go elsewhere if they feel that way....especially "chick ful et", lol. Personally I watched several very high maintenance customers expecting to be treated to service as if no one else was in the restaurant, which is unrealistic and pompous. It was a busy night, but the customers I saw and spoke with were extremely pleased. There's great music, great food and great service. A little patience goes a long way and makes for an amazing experience. It's not a fast food restaurant, it's an elegant, family run and family friendly restaurant. Overpriced, poor service, mediocre to poor food. Ordered shrimp with ginger to go. It had only four small shrimp in a plate of broccoli and peppers. Criminal. Shumai were overcooked to mush. Asked for pan fried gyoza, got deep fried. Both mediocre and frozen not homemade. Teriyaki chicken was completely unseasoned, chewey grilled chicken with one small container of sauce on the side. The veggies were literally two pieces of broccoli and two pieces of carrot. Steamed, bland and unseasoned. Pathetic. Restaurant was nearly empty at 6pm on Thurs. So a friend and I decided to go to Sushi Yama last night even after reading the reviews. Well let me tell you the reviews were right. Service is terrible. We figured hey so many people have left terrible reviews on service... they have definitely fixed it by now. Nope. Sushi was ok except the Orange Dragon Roll. Was not feeling that fishy smoky taste. I will give it to one server who didn't know he was a server for apologizing for being busy. Mind you when we arrived there was probably 4 tables and we didn't get asked for our drink order for atleast 10 minutes. The gentleman playing music in the corner was great though. Definitely our "go to" restaurant. Food is always fresh and delish. The Lobster Bomb is one of our favorites. I'm always watching my waist, so ... they prepare steamed snapper over spinach that is the best. We try different rolls and appetizers a lot. The Tuna Guacamole, Japanese Nachos and Tuna Tartare are our other favorites. Did I mention they are a family owned and operated restaurant? I am so disappointed with the lunch that I just ordered for take out. First, the lunch menu prices were increased without any notice. I had looked at the menu online and called to confirm the lunch prices but when I picked up the food that the prices were higher. I was asking for the reason but I just got a simple answer "We changed prices last year." Hey, it's been almost a year, are you too busy to update the menu? Then finally got seated and then waited another 5 min to get our drink order then we gave are drink order, got one drink the other never arrived after 25 min we asked for the other drink again and finally got it. She never put the drink order in. Then we order food and appetizers came out okay, but then one entrée came out and the other took another 25 min so one so my partner finished eating there meal (not to tasteful) and I waited when mines finally came it was nasty tasted nothing like it was thrown together. Was going to get Togo food but after the experience and the way the first stuff tasted we just paid our tab and left I still tipped 25% because I understand the industry but it was a awful experience and we Sadly will not be returning to this establishment. read more

The service was horrible! The waiter took forever. There were people at the door waiting at the door forever. Other guests also spoke about how bad the place was around us. When we complained to the waiter he said "he was busy". We said we would never come back again and he did not do anything to remedy our complaints. The food was not great either. I went to a late dinner with my wife Saturday night and it was our first visit. We were seated and ordered Tom kha kai soup and a California roll for an appetizer. The food was amazing and fresh. Our main courses were a Spider roll and Shrimp, scallop and beef Pad Thai. Quality sushi and nice presentation. The pad tai was light on scallops and shrimp but none the less we enjoyed it and didn't leave hungry. The prices are in line with fine dining and the food is above par. The restaurant was clean and has a great look to it. The service was slower than usual but it did not bother us as we enjoyed the dining atmosphere. Now I know that my family is in no way, shape, or form an easy group of people to serve as a waiter or waitress (except for me, I'm pretty much the perfect guest). Some of the people in our party have dietary restrictions, can get snippy, etc. With that said, our waitress at Sushi Yama was so incredibly rude and terrible that I really suggest she finds another occupation. When it came time to place our order, the two young ones of our group had a little trouble communication exactly what they wanted. Rather than help them figure it out, the waitress left in the middle of taking our order. She then sent over another waitress to do her job for her. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer, which were actually surprisingly good. However, we had no appetizer plates so we all had to huddle around the one plate on the table to use. Our meals were brought out shortly after and when someone in our party asked where a part of his meal was, the waitress rudely replied that "I already told you it will come out in a second" as she walked away from the table. While there were so many more examples of this rude and really unacceptable service, it would be hard to put them all in this review. Many eye rolls and icy glares later, the waitress finally brought our check. The food is fine here but there are so many more sushi restaurants in the immediate area where the waiters and waitresses aren't extremely rude. I will never return to Sushi Yama. read more

Yesterday Valentines day my husband who is 72 and I who is 77 decided to get some take out from this resturant. My husband is African American and I white decided with covid I would go with ,but sit in the car. My husband has a full face of gray hair, but with 3 masks on a baseball cap and black v neck shirt and shorts could be taken for a kid, Lucky Him! he entered placed and order was told 15 min., he said he would wait in car across the street from resturant ,and would come back in 15, he returned and after waiting for him at 1;40 I went in to see why when the order was placed at1;07pm he was still waiting. I had watched the waitress wait on 2 tables outside who came 10 min apart they were eating and one table was through. The owner yelled to me that they were working on the order! I told him it was very disrecepful to have let my husband sit there while they took care of everone else,but him! He and I are Buddhist and my husband is such a gentel soul. would never have said a word, but I would not let them disrespect him. I have eaten there before ,but I will never go back. By the way they shorted my order by not putting the eel sauce, ruined my whole day, but I call them to tell them about the sauce and they said I had to request it, which is a lie. I had it included on the same takeout 2 times before. The woman I spoke to said she was a manager, and that she had my husband on her camera coming in at a different time, but she didnt go back to the first time he came in and went out to wait in the car. Have been coming here for years, sushi is always good but service has gone way downhill. The last few visits have taken forever to get food. There were 3 of us that went for dinner this past Monday night and we literally waited 20 minutes after we were done for a check (and there was only one other table with customers) and once we got check, I was charged $5 extra because I changed ONE piece of fish, I asked for a shrimp instead of white fish and she charged me $5 extra, which I think is crazy. I understand charging for substitutions but not $5 for literally one piece. They need more staff and to tell people how much they are charging when you order read more

Although a bit dark inside, so maybe a better choice for dinner than lunch, it was a good place to eat. A bit pricey but not the worst. Had a Tom Kha Gai soup to start the meal, tasty but unimpressive for a 7 dollar cup of soup. Everyone on the table had a different dish so it was great to see the different fares, which included: chicken pad see ew, tom kha Gai, chicken teriyaki, tofu stir-fry from the vegetarian menu, pork vermicelli noodle bowl, and chicken pad thai. Don't order if you plan on delivery. I've tried twice now - one via phone and one online. Online was clearly set to delivery. After no food (30 minutes after ETA), I called and they said they're on their way. 30 minutes later, no food. I called and she said sorry, thought you were picking up. My wife and I have been coming here for a while now and the food is always very good, but on our last visit, when we got our check, we realized that our waitress, whose name was Chit, overcharged us for our drinks (we had two but she charged us for five) and we ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer which was $10.99 but was charged for a shrimp tempura roll, which is $13.99. I understand that mistakes happen, but four? It was apparent to us that our waitress was trying to pad the check. We spotted the drinks and had them removed from the check but missed the tempura. This is the first time something like this has ever happened to us, anywhere. This is very disappointing because we really like this place. read more

I used to go to this restaurant when I was younger and almost forgot how good it was. I would get the kids teriyaki chicken which was delicious and now I'm always getting sushi and soup- amazing and very fresh. I recommend their rainbow roll and salmon sashimi! I tried to give this place another shot after my terrible experience about three months ago. Again, I was let down. The worst service from any restaurant I ever have been to was from here. The manager is aggressive and verbally abusive with the way she speaks when you complain. We sat for over an hour and a half to wait for sushi with nobody but two other tables in the restaurant. And waited 20 minutes for the check after we were done eating and once we complained "I said this is not how restaurant should be ran " she screamed at us and told us to get out. Again, because I was taking food "to go" I was not expecting a great presentation in my little plastic clam shell. But the sashimi was not even cut all the way through, making portions hard to control. The ginger was cut in slabs instead of gently shaved. One of the fishes on our platter was truly a mystery fish. My niece Anna whined all day about sushi. I finally was broken and let her order whatever she wanted from this establishment. I love my sister Marilyn but her daughter is a pain sometimes. After waiting double the amount of time we were told, we finally received our order. Every roll was bad, Anna tried the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura roll, and salmon avocado.
