5/5 for the food, service, and ambiance! I had a different sushi go-to spot that I used to go to, but I think this may be my new favorite! The servers were kind and the assortment of nigiri as well as the signature roll we picked out were so fresh and just perfect. The only thing I would not get is the hand roll only because the nori was damp by the time it came out and I would rather just get another nigiri pair.

I could not believe they allowed a non-service dog in the restaurant to dine with the owner. In addition, the dog was in a chair. Disappointed.

We stumbled on this spot after the restaurant we planned to go to turned out to be closed. Sushi Yama turned out to be a great find! The interior is very inviting and service was friendly. The sushi counter is somewhat open so you can see the sushi chefs at work, which I always really like! We started our meal with steamed gyoza which were great, then moved on to 3 different rolls. We tried the popular Yummy Yama and Bubba rolls (both were awesome!) and a classic Spicy Tuna. We really enjoyed all of them and were happy with the price point as well!

We were looking for a new Japanese restaurant near Tysons and found Sushi Yama. It's a small shop with sushi bar seating and tables. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. I started with a warm saki and order the Momo roll (salmon, cucumber, spicy crab, and yummy crunchy batter). The wife ordered the Rainbow Bulgogi Donburi with seven veggies. All in all a great experience.

We stopped in for dinner tonight and sat at the sushi bar. It's a cozy restaurant, but very busy and the service is great. To start, we ordered the jalapeño Yama bomb. It's their version of jalapeño poppers. There were 3 jalapeños split in half, stuffed with spicy tuna and cream cheese, then fried and topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. So good! My husband was surprised by the texture of the tuna. It was a lot like sausage the way they prepare it, but a much healthier version. So good! For our main we ordered the sashimi and sushi for two. Wow. The presentation was beautiful, fish was fresh, and it was A LOT of food for two. It also comes with two side salads and miso soup. I highly recommend both. This restaurant is very reasonably priced for what we got, fish is fresh, and the service is great.

Great sushi spot in Vienna! I had a wonderful dining experience here for dinner. I ordered the tuna hand roll and spicy tuna hand roll and both were delicious and generous with fish. Sushi and sashimi platter was very fresh. I wish the cuts were cut bigger though. The yellowtail nigiri was probably my favorite of the meal. Customer service was spectacular. The waitresses were attentive and warm. They constantly checked in on us and refilled and cleared our plates promptly. This sushi spot is worth going to!

Supa fresh, supa good. A smaller restaurant with super sweet waitresses and just a homey vibe. They have normal seating and a sushi bar to watch the masters do their thing. I've been going to this place for a while and it's always great. Their bento box deals for lunch are really great but this time we came for the freshly caught ocean creatures. The maki was great as it never disappoint, I got the akai roll and a california and my friend got the handrolls and a maki (I don't know the actual name of it). Clean cut, nothing out of the ordinary, the fake flowers had the lady next to us a little too excited but I guess that's what nice plate decor does for people.

I love Sushi Yama! I've been coming here for endless amount of years and will continue. They are always so welcoming and friendly to everyone no matter who it is. It's a very small but homey restaurant with authentic food and decorations. It's very clean and the food is top quality!!

This is a Vienna favorite, as evidenced by the constant stream of people seen at lunch and dinner hours - this is definitely a family friendly place. Sushi is always fresh and it's cool to see the chefs in action along the bar. My go-to non-sushi dish is the rainbow bulgogi. A solid 4 stars in my book.

One of my favorite places to visit for lunch in Vienna. I've been here multiple times with great experiences, but this past visit stood out to me. I arrived here with a larger group on coworkers (about 14 people). We typically arrive before noon, but it doesn't ever get too crowded. We were seated at 2 different tables of 7 and were brought waters immediately. Shortly after, our orders were taken and the sushi was brought out in a timely manner. Once we finished eating, our plates were cleared from the table and checks were brought out separate. Service is always great, but given we had two big groups you could tell they did everything they could to prioritize us which I really appreciated. As for the food I tend to mix around a bit but my favorite roll is the smoky yama roll. You can even smell it being finished when they torch the salmon on the top of the roll for a smoky flavor. Prices are within reason as two rolls will fill you up for the day post-lunch. Finally, the restaurant is located in an accessible parking lot making it easy to always get in and out of. Please try this place if you're looking for sushi within the Tyson's/Vienna area!

I come to sushi Yama a lot for lunch. The sushi is always spectacular. This time I went it was spectacular. Perfect combination of flavors. You really can't go wrong with any of the options but I really liked the yummy Yama , and kimochee rolls. Service was quick and efficient as always and the restaurant had a peaceful ambiance. If you're looking for one of the best sushi restaurants in Vienna look no further.

Teriyaki steak w a smidgen of veggies--half eaten steak. Sauce seemed canned but does the job for those not into sushi.

Normally we go to Sushi Yoshi (not to be confused w Sushi Oishi!!') but they close at 2pm for lunch, so we went to this similar fabulous sushi joint and we were pleasantly pleased w the very fresh and generous Chirashi dish all served w a yummy salad that had a nutty ginger dressing as well as miso soup. They also had steak teriyaki which was ok but won't knock them as they are truly a sushi joint but one person in our group is not a sushi person. One from our party accidentally went to Yama chen right next door which is strange that two sets of Japanese restaurants have a similar name next door. Service was great and definitely will be back.

My adventurous eater and I tried out Sushi Koji after rugby yesterday. It was a real treat. Our…read moreserver was very helpful in helping us decide what to get, and we thought we would try sashimi (after reading reviews about the place) as well as noodles. Fellow Yelpers did not steer us wrong! We ordered Otoro (fatty tuna) and sake belly (salmon belly) sashimi, listed as 3 pieces each. We also ordered tempura udon, a shrimp tempura roll*, takoyaki, and mentaiko butter udon (off the specials menu). Let me begin by saying the space is clean, roomy, and well-decorated. We enjoyed looking at the artwork and figurines, which included anime figures that we recognized. There were many tables, and though they may be physically close together, there is enough separation to be comfortable without being on top of each other or feeling cramped. There was a family of five that was seated next to us partway through the meal, and I never felt like the noise level changed or that we suddenly felt as if there were more people around. The takoyaki came out covered in bonito flakes. The sauce was a perfect blend of tempered spicy mayo as my adventurous eater enjoyed it without being overwhelmed by heat. The bites were well-sized as not to be too large, but we were able to bite in without burning our tongues our with the right balance of batter and octopus, and we both enjoyed it greatly. The sashimi came out with the shrimp tempura roll on a beautifully arranged boat - 4 pieces each! We each tried two pieces of otoro and sake belly, and the pieces just melted into our mouth. The otoro was garnished with what appeared to be hint of wasabi and maybe chopped jalapeño, which was too much for my adventurous eater to try, so I gently scraped it off. Neither of us were able to taste anything but the well-chosen slices of fatty tuna, which were a hit. We then tried the sake belly which were garnished with a sliver of fried garlic and garlic paste. Again, I scraped it off for the adventurous eater, who then raved about how delicious it was! I tried it with the garlic and agreed. The garlic was perfectly fried, and was the right amount not to overwhelm the delicate buttery texture and flavor of the salmon belly. Although, I will admit - while it's a nice flavor to add, the sashimi itself didn't need anything to be added. The tempura udon came out, with perfectly battered pieces - 2 shrimp, an asparagus, an onion ring, a slice of sweet potato, and a slice of eggplant. My adventurous eater attacked the shrimp while I munched on veggies. The batter was crispy, light, and not greasy. My mentaiko butter udon came out and I am so glad I ordered it! There was a little nest of noodles, with two halves of a soft-boiled egg, and plenty of creamy sauce. The menu described the dish as buttery and umami and it did not deceive. The udon was perfectly chewy and slurpable, coated with delicious creamy sauce. I debating mixing in the eggs because they looked so perfect, so I dipped one half in the sauce instead and ate that whole, before mixing in the other half into my bowl. Even my adventurous eater tried a little bit of my udon and agreed that it was delicious! Not having had mentaiko butter before, I looked it up before writing this review. The dish is described as being a spicy-fish roe butter sauce, but what we are talking about is a very mild heat. The dish was warming, tasty, and very comforting. It was also surprisingly light considering the buttery richness of the flavors. I finished every last bit of the noodles in my bowl and drank the rest of the sauce, with all the fish roe stirred in. I may have also commented a couple of times on how phenomenal the dish was. That was when our server shared that it was the first day it had been on the menu, so they were looking for feedback. I would say that the dish alone is worth checking out, but I feel like you will keep coming back due to the quality of everything else. I think this place is a gem and I will definitely look for excuses to return to Oakton to eat there again. Between the friendly service, the cheerful ambiance, and the amazing food, this is hitting all the right notes! * My adventurous eater filled up on everything else before even getting to the shrimp tempura roll, so we ended up packing up the rest of the udon and the shrimp tempura roll to bring home. Due to life, the roll never made it into the fridge, so we tragically had to toss it without trying it. I wish I could tell you how it was, but I can say the roll was beautifully formed and served and looked absolutely delicious. This is where I wish I had taken pictures of everything.

We ordered the Sushi…read morefor 2, which came out as a full sushi boat with around 12 different types of sushi and nigiri, and it was way more food than we expected in a good way. I initially thought it would be mostly rolls, but it leaned more toward nigiri. That said, everything was super fresh and really well prepared, so no complaints there. I recently started eating seafood again after years of avoiding it, so I have been easing into it, and this was actually a really good place to do that. The fish tasted fresh, clean, and not overly fishy, which made it a lot easier to enjoy. The Osaka roll, which our server recommended, was really good, but my favorite was definitely the paradise roll from the sushi boat. Anything with shrimp tempura is a win for me, and this one hit the spot. The ambiance is cute, cozy, and on the smaller side, which made the whole experience feel more quiet and intimate. It did not feel rushed at all, which I appreciated, especially since we were breaking our fast. We ended up taking a lot of food to go because the portions were so generous, and surprisingly, everything still tasted fresh and delicious even the next two days. The only downside is that it is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, portions, and overall experience helped justify it. Overall, great quality sushi, generous portions, and a calm, intimate vibe. Definitely a spot I would come back to, especially if I am in the mood for fresh sushi without a loud or hectic atmosphere.

If you are in the need of a nice warm yummy broth - then you will not be disappointed by the halal chicken ramen. This is by the far the tastiest ramen I have ever had. ( also - add spice to your order because it needs that extra "kick"). We usually order one bowl and I do ask them for an extra bowl so that we can half it between two people. It is quite a lot for one person. ( well for me anyway). I can only comment on two types of sushi that I tried and every time I had it - well it was delicious. The salmon and avocado rolls and the red dragon roll. You just can't go wrong on that order. The ambience - they have booth tables and there are signs that say you should not clean your table after you are done as they clean up - which is awesome. Drinks are in the refrigerator on the side so you can help yourself to that when you purchase it. You can order at the counter or from a self service kiosk ( they only have one - which is quite annoying when you have to wait to order). If I had to think of a few minor improvements - they have soy sauce on the tables but I wish they had a low sodium soy sauce to offer as well. I also think that if the place got busy ordering would be an issue as they have one person taking orders and one self service kiosk. But those items are minor and I will always keep coming back for the delicious food!

The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

The miso soup was good but the salad was avg. The dressing got really watery. The gyozas & Cali rolls were fair but generous servings of tempura were outstanding! Crisp & hot. Even after 10 mins. Not oily or greasy. The rice was cooked properly. The only misstep was the steak. The steak was also cooked properly at medium rare & looked beautiful. The inside was nice and pink. But upon chewing, the steak was not tender at all. Very very chewy. When you were young, you were taught fo chew at least 30 times. Well, this exceeded the recommended amount of chewing. The food was amazing. We ordered off of the special menu. We ordered the Alaska salmon roll and the black snapper sushi. The black snapper sushi was a little salty but had great flavor. The Alaskan salmon was delicious and filling. The ambiance was nice. The restaurant was huge. They not only offered sushi but they had hibachi as well. The customers having hibachi seem to be having a great time. It was a great experience. I will be back soon.

We came here for a family birthday celebration because that's what the birthday person chose, lol…read more We were a party of seven, and it was fairly busy for a Tuesday night. FOOD: The menu is pretty straightforward. You order your entrée, and you can get a single protein or a combination of proteins. Choices include chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp, or salmon. Everything comes with an appetizer choice of mushrooms or chicken livers, and then you have a choice of steamed white rice or fried rice, and your meal is also accompanied by a miso soup and a salad with a ginger dressing. You are also given two different sauces to dip your food in, should you so desire: one is a ginger sauce, and the other is a special sauce - that's what they call it - and I'm not really sure what's in it, but it's kind of like an Asian inspired thousand island sauce is the best way to describe it. SERVICE: Our server, Rose, was the bees' knees!!! Our chef was great too & I don't know his name, but he was a little less lively than others, but I think that's because we were a bunch of adults only lol. AMBIANCE: All in all, everything was great, and our party enjoyed their meals. I personally thought everything kind of tasted the same. Not a place I would frequent, and it is kind of expensive, but you do get a lot for what you pay for, and it is definitely a fun place to go to for a celebratory occasion. Keep in mind the tables are in a U shape, so it's really hard to be present with your entire party, and whatever side you're on, you feel like you're on your own little island, which is a little disappointing for a birthday celebration, but we still had fun and made it work the best we could. The restaurant was clean, but you felt like you're going back in time. The ambience was casual yet very lively and fun. 3/1/26
