My 5 star review isn't because it's the best sushi I've had. It's because I went in expecting a subpar ayce restaurant and it was better than expected. If you're coming here and expecting sasabune or matsuhisa quality then yes, you will be disappointed but come on people... you're paying like 1/5 of the price. My gfs and I came early and sat at the bar. We opted to do a la cart as we weren't starving enough to stuff our faces and we're not into rolls. So why did we even come here? Because I live in Azusa and my gfs live in LA and this place was midpoint and popped up on my yelp. Anyhow, we told the head chef to just slowly start rolling out his best until we say stop. We started with the garlic edamame (yum), some typical sushi, uni, and some sweet shrimp/salmon that was marinated in this amazing soy based sauce that was the chef's special recipe. This was sooo good! Not sure if it's on their regular menu or ayce. Overall we all enjoyed our meal and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to ayce sushi lovers. The chef that served us was very attentive where he kept an eye on us and made sure not to give us too much at once which we definitely appreciated because we were able to leisurely enjoy our meal while catching up. One suggestion is to come a bit early on a weekend because by around 7 the place was packed and there was a line out the door. read more

Really loved the selection here ! They even have uni ( sea urchin ). When we went ( Wednesday night around 740pm) there wasn't a line and it wasn't packed inside either. We only ate one round but it was plenty. I would recommend going with the premium AYCE. This place lost a star for the service. It seemed liked there were only two servers and service was slow and spotty. We did not get a few of the dishes we ordered and we gave up waiting and asking for them. The four different types of sushi ordered along with 2 salmon bowls (the best anywhere I have tasted them) came out excellent. Our family highly recommends this restaurant. This is the Sushi (All-you-can-eat) I've tried lately in the Los Angeles area. The good quality wasn't using a higher premium quality if fish due to pricing they charge, even though it's not that cheap for $24 weekdays n $30 weekends & holidays. The premium items like blue Fun tuna, Urchin wasn't too impressive. I would suggest customers that aren't having an authentic level of sushi, just having some casual sushi rolls. That will be fine. Services were ok not much special but not too bad. I would give Sushi Me a Two Stars because of the food. Quality was not having any seafood or fishy taste at all. No fish oily taste.... read more

Why we can't be seated till everyone gets here? I still don't understand why when six of us arrive early for a 7 :30 p.m. reservation, this restaurants won't seat us until everyone (who may be parking the car, say) gets there. ... That makes no sense to me, except that nine times out of 10 the wait isn't long enough to make that much of a difference. The restaurant still has to hold the table for awhile at least because we have a reservation. A reservation for 14 of us. Six of us showed up early, and the other texted to say they were on the way. Instead of taking us to our table, the Manager told us we'd have to wait until our whole party was there. He asked us to hover outside until my friend arrived. There wasn't much of a waiting area, just a small and very cold outside entryway. We had a reservation and we would have ordered drinks and appetizers right away if we'd been seated, so why did they make us wait? I saw at least three large open tables and one table with reservation sign on it. I tried explain that we'd order right away after we sat down, but the Manager said this was the policy. Why do restaurants do this? There are empty tables while yours guests are waiting for theirs. It's the ugliest issue in the management of your reservations program. Yes, program! unless you are a famous chef like Thomas Keller, your restaurant shouldn't require exact numbers of attendees to function. People forget that this is a business and when you lose guests during prime time it hurts you big time, The Bottom Line: Most restaurants will do their best to accommodate requests and will tolerate almost any annoyance, which most acknowledge is part of the job. "You are in the business of delivering experiences," The manager said "but we only seat complete parties," "Even though there's literally no one else here?" I asked, confused. "It's the policy," he said, clearly embarrassed. he gestured toward a row of stool in the outside hallway. "Would you mind sitting here while you wait?" I did mind. The restaurant have three empty tables ! I just wanted to relax, order a beer and peruse the menu while I waited. I didn't want to perch on some uncomfortable stool outside a drafty hallway for who knows how long. So instead I've found myself focusing more on the restaurant's lack of hospitality than its deft handling of blue crab. Clearly there are many issues here, # 1 Greet your diners the minute they walk in the door. # 2 Seat parties as people arrive. ... Even if you're slammed and the kitchen is in the weeds, the host's job is to make sure all guests feel welcome the moment they walk in. Whatever else is happening, your host should always be available to do his or her primary job: taking care of incoming patrons. After all, this Manager is the first person we encounter when we walk through a restaurant's doors. When he told us that you can't sit down, even though there are empty tables, it immediately signals that the restaurant's owners are more interested in maximizing profits than in making their guests feel welcome and comfortable. It can be hard for a restaurant to recover from that foul first impression. Especially since someone who arrives before their dining companions might already feel vulnerable and awkward. Plus, even if we aren't likely to order main courses before the companions arrive, we 're very likely to start ordering appetizers to share and, especially, drinks, which are the main profit centers for restaurants in any case. So it's not a total waste. At restaurants with bars, hosts will often encourage early arrivers to wait for the rest of their table at the bar and order a drink in the meantime -- and I'm generally A-OK with that. But if the bar's full, or the restaurant has no bar, and there are open tables, I really wish hosts would seat incomplete tables. Not if it's just one person in a group of eight, I suppose, and not if the restaurant's slammed. I wouldn't want to replace one kind of rigidity with another. I'm just asking this dumb Manager to be flexible and hospitable rather than blindly obeying ironclad policies. It's bad enough when customers have a negative experience with your business, but if they can't get their issue resolved, they can blast their story all over social media and make things even worse. read more

This has placed "Izakaya Akatora"; not sure if is the same management or not but some of the old signage is still up (granted they recently opened!). The menu is now for all you can eat sushi. Overall, a welcome addition to the SGV and Alhambra area. There really aren't that many "local" AYCE sushi spots in this area that are good quality and reasonably priced. Luckily, the pricing for Sushi Me is reasonable. They have a regular and premium pricing structure. With the premium price, you can order several premium items, such as uni, salmon belly, and bluefin tuna. Even though it is one of each type of premium items, the overall totality is these orders is well worth it. The quality of the sushi is good quality, good taste and fresh. The nigiri does come with a bit more rice than expected but still typical of the usually AYCE spots. You get a complimentary green tea ice cream at the end, and the flavor is definitely spot on. DO NOT RECOMMEND Management: Upon sitting down, I was given a menu and was explained that the AYCE menu did not have a limit on rounds despite the menu saying three rounds. After the third round, I requested 4 more nigiri pieces (as I was careful not to over order in the previous rounds). After a little while, a different server came back and said that the limit is three rounds. I tried to explain what my original server said to me and the staff acknowledged they knew what the server said, but they still insisted that I was no longer allowed to order. Regardless of the server's mistake, the business should still honor what was communicated to the customer, and for 4 pieces of sushi I found this extremely PETTY. In addition, an AYCE menu that has a limit on how much you can order is not really all-you-can-eat. SERVICE: There were three servers that Tuesday night (2/25) at 8PM. One of the servers I felt was quite unmotivated (the server with braces), another typically only came after nothing was needed, and only one server (the tallest server) was really working (refilling drinks and clearing tables). Overall, for the price ($33), selection, and service, I would definitely not come back. I recommend going to Aburi Sushi & Ramen in Pasadena where the price is cheaper ($29), the selection is greater, and the service is better. This was my first dining experience. I was craving sushi and what caught my attention was their all day happy hour- $1 nigiri- OKAY! The fish pieces were smaller than some sushi restaurants but for $1 a piece, who am I to complain! Saw a huge sign across the place driving down the street and saw happy hour and $1 sushi so of course i wanted to check the place out. Came in and it looked packed so i figured, this place must be really good then! I saw they had an AYCE menu so we settled in and started ordering. There was a premium section where it's one per person and I usually order from there first in all ayce spots because the quality of sushi is usually better than the rest of the menu (as to why it would be one per person) it wasn't like that at all. The fish all tasted the same, it lacked flavor and it was mediocre, it also had too much rice. The price for the ayce wasn't worth it, considering how there's other AYCE sushi spots that cost the same AND have better options and better tasting food. Went in for dine-in service on the weekend. They are not doing AYCE which I understood. Sushi is amazing that is where most of my ratings are coming from and we felt completely safe at the restaurant. They are serving their rolls and drinks in disposable dishes. They also had sanitizer on the tables which I appreciated. The lack of two stars is because of the service, I was disappointed. There were only 3 small groups of people at the restaurant and only 2 servers but most of the time they were preparing phone orders and forgetting about their dine-in customers. I get it, they were busy, but I just didn't appreciate not being checked in after the initial check-in. I had to wave my hands to get our servers attention to place another order and stand up to get the check. I've been a server and worked in busy restaurants and even when it was busy I would do my best to at least acknowledge all my tables once in a while. Not once did our server check in on us. Our second order also took about 20 - 30 minutes to prepare. I wasn't the only one because the people next to us even left early because it took forever to get their order as well. My recommendation, if you are going to be eating here during Covid, get take out instead. read more

When they first started out, business was on the slow side. With good reason, soooo much local competition! Went there with my paussi of sushi lovers to enjoy their AYCE menu and compared them to some of our other local favorites like Yoshino in SGV and Sushi Kuni in Monrovia. Sushi Me was on the higher price range, but quality of fish was on par with it's competitors. They actively listed on suggestions and we started seeing HH options and other daily deals! What made me finally review them is the wonderful staff stepping up during Covid 19! It's not easy keeping customer's calm and being able to accurately estimate delivery times when you happen to be short staff. Yet the hostess maintains a lovely smile and friendly service! They apologize and thank customer's profusely. They have definitely won a patron with my family and I hope to continue to enjoy their food as long as possible! I would give this place a 3.5 stars. The meal started off alright my plate was dusty and we've never seen a AYCE place that nigiri was a premium item. Salmon carpacio - it wasn't so much a carpacio it was a salmon sashimi it just had onions and no sauce. Tuna carpacio - this was good and had a lot of flavor but it is spicy. Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, uni, hamachi, blue fin tuna nigiri - good, thick cut pieces the rice is also a good amount. Tuna cut roll - slightly too much rice but the fish was fresh. We loved that the seaweed wrapping was roasted. Super tiger roll - all around good roll, seaweed was also roasted. Seaweed salad - more fresh salad than there was seaweed salad. Agadashi tofu - flavor could of been a little stronger other than that really good. Overall I didn't think it was worth $30 and not sure I would come back for AYCE but their a la carte menu looked decent and we might try that. I know purple rice is a thing, but after searching, it seems like I'm the only one that's gotten purple rice. The ETA for the wrong delivery was 22 min (per doordash tracker text)... but I only live 3 miles away! They stated 45 min. "Honesty is the best policy." If you don't have all premium items for sure, do not say yes twice to customers. Premium items charge you 5 dollars more than regular all you can eat.
