I know purple rice is a thing, but after searching, it seems like I'm the only one that's gotten purple rice. I would give this place a 3.5 stars. The meal started off alright my plate was dusty and we've never seen a AYCE place that nigiri was a premium item. Salmon carpacio - it wasn't so much a carpacio it was a salmon sashimi it just had onions and no sauce. Tuna carpacio - this was good and had a lot of flavor but it is spicy. Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, uni, hamachi, blue fin tuna nigiri - good, thick cut pieces the rice is also a good amount. Tuna cut roll - slightly too much rice but the fish was fresh. We loved that the seaweed wrapping was roasted. Super tiger roll - all around good roll, seaweed was also roasted. Seaweed salad - more fresh salad than there was seaweed salad. Agadashi tofu - flavor could of been a little stronger other than that really good. Overall I didn't think it was worth $30 and not sure I would come back for AYCE but their a la carte menu looked decent and we might try that. The Sushi Me person gave my Doordash driver the wrong order! Then called me to ask me to contact the driver to bring the food back. The ETA for the wrong delivery was 22 min (per doordash tracker text)... but I only live 3 miles away! They stated 45 min. From 7:40pm... its was 8:50pm when Sushi Me contacted... and the driver would have to still come back to us after getting the correct meal!!! We called in an order for pick up. The employee was friendly and the pick up time was pretty fast although it was a random Wednesday night. Once we got home, I opened the plastic bag and found a huge spill. I didn't think anything was particularly saucy. We ordered a baked salmon roll, albacore special roll, and garlic edamame. The garlic edamame was the item that had quite a bit of sauce. The whole bottom of the bag was drenched. I didn't remove a star for the spilled sauce since that was probably my fault for not keeping the bag straight. The reason I'm docking a star is because the garlic edamame was spicy. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't do spicy well and would have liked to have known that before ordering. All the food though was pretty good. Came here for lunch and got the AYCE. Our favorite had to be the pink lady, followed by baked baby lobster. We ordered the baked dynamite and honestly it was not the best we've tried. We also ordered the fresh salmon but it had too much green and not enough fish for my taste. The pink lady absolutely stole the show! Also we quite enjoyed the garlic edamame. There were like 3 little pods left but we were so distracted by the delicious rolls that we couldn't stop the server from stealing our plate away. Overall great quality fish you could taste and unique rolls. Service was good at this time of day, pretty attentive (our glasses were rarely empty for long). Lunch here is legit value for money. For $18, you can get all you can eat sushi rolls and appetizers. If you want onigiri sushi, it costs $20 per person. My favorite items on the menu are: Godzilla roll- Eel, soft shell crab and avocado wrapped with rice. It looks like a miniature Godzilla and the flavor explosion feels like Godzilla's radioactive breath. WB roll- Seared scallops with spicy tuna, topped with peppercorns. The sauce is spicy, the scallops are sweet. Together, the flavors complement each other so well. Baby lobster roll- California rolls topped with crispy crayfish. It should be named the crayfish roll. Calling it baby lobster roll feels like an insult to these delicious little mud bugs. The price, food and friendly service are so good, I go almost every week. Sometimes they give me free ice cream for dessert. Even if they don't, I'm too full to care. read more

Pro: There is free parking close to the restaurant across the street in a parking structure. Con: Food was mediocre at best. Even their "Premium" sushi tasted very average at best. I had their all you can eat and ordered one of everything from their "Premium". One of them included thinly fried onions where they put on top of the fish. Either it was not meant to be eaten (which I doubt since they put a bunch of it) or it was as a garnish because the thing tasted stale. You can tell they fried it awhile back and had just put it on top when you order it. The fish quality was mediocre (salmon had same texture as Poke Bowl salmon). Service was pretty bad... not sure what the waiters were doing at the front reception desk but they were all huddled there talking and ignoring everyone in the restaurant. Literally ALL of them were there (not even exaggerating here). The restaurant wasn't even packed and we had to fight for their attention. Did not check on anyone at all. They also brought out something we didn't order which was fine at first but then later forgot that we didn't order it. We didn't end up eating it but since we had all you can eat, they told us it'd be $1.50 a piece. We explained to them that we didn't order it for the second time which would have been fine except the waiter had to rudely check our order sheet front of us to check. At least do it in the back! Made us feel very uncomfortable. Conclusion: Would not have gone back even if the service was great. There are just too many better sushi restaurants out there. The servers need to remember that they are running a business. Felt like they were teenagers there for a summer job. read more

This was a really good sushi place! Came here for lunch, we we're seated immediately. There were a couple of people eating and service was incredibly fast. We filled out out all you can eat sushi card and maybe 5 min later our sushi appeared! I've been to other places that will make you wait a long time between rounds, but not this place. Never pushy, always polite, and enabled us to eat as much sushi as possible. The food itself was delicious, tasted really fresh! We did the premium all you can eat and ordered the salmon premium thing, it was so good. This is definitely one of the better sushi joints I've been to in the area. The atmosphere was nice, laid back and comfortable. Even with a full restaurant I can't imagine it'd get too noisy or crowded. It was an all-around great experience. Very pleased with this place. AYCE prices are reasonable, sushi quality is great, and service is up to par. I loved that they aren't so busy, YET. Which lead to my group and I being seated quickly. Place is a bit small but very welcoming and open to large groups. They offer all you can drink options as well for sake which is a plus for me and my group. We were there with my four years old daughter and as a four years old, she doesn't really like sushi so I bought some of her own food and asked if she could have those instead. And they were happily agreed to make an exception and let her had she own food while the parent (us!) could enjoy some nice sushi! :)(Their price policy is $15.99 for 3-9 years old. I would strongly suggest to change the policy to 5 under free... because most kids under 5 really don't like sushi and their la cartel menu doesn't provide udon nor any other food that those kids would want.) New ayce sushi in Alhambra, for about 33$ a person. My fiancé and I were craving sushi and although we swore we wouldn't do another ayce - we really wanted to try it. We walk through the door and we're immediately greeted by the waiters and chefs. We decided to grab a seat at the bar which is a pretty bad idea if you're considering ayce (now, we know for next time). The premium sushi is 1 per person only. I thought their salmon belly, bluefin tuna and halibut were super delicious. I loveeeee tuna, but the tuna here had a weird dry texture that was off putting, it almost didn't taste like tuna? HOWEVER, I will say that their salmon was delicious. I usually never eat salmon because I don't like the texture or taste but the salmon here was sooo delicious, I ordered more than I ever eaten at any ayce sushi spot. It's an ayce sushi restaurant, so some of their seafood quality was decently good like the bay scallops, albacore, tamago and some kinda fell short. We ordered mainly nigiri and we only had one of their rolls which was "my king" it was basically a California roll topped with tuna and avocado. My fiancé really hoped that they would had salmon roe but they didn't. They did offer the smelt roe which was still good. Note: if you order ayce, they do charge $1.50 per piece of food for ANY leftover (even though it says sushi/rolls/rice). They'll charge for leftover appetizers and stuff too. So just make sure you order what you can finish. read more

I really liked all of their premium sushi options (1 per person) except for the tuna carpaccio and the salmon/tuna specials. Their nigiri also seemed fresher than other AYCE places. However, they do give you more rice, which I know some people don't like. And they have fewer options (ex: salmon roe, oysters aren't on AYCE. and they were out of uni when I went). Spicy tuna crispy rice wasn't crispy. Everything else was pretty good. Waitresses are super friendly, but understaffed. I came twice, and both times, the restaurant was only half full with a giant line out the door. They couldn't seat the people waiting (even though there were lots of empty seats), because there weren't enough workers. This seems awfully inefficient. And it happened both times I was here, so it wasn't like a sudden influx of customers they didn't plan for. read more

As the sister restaurant to Sushi Kuni in Monrovia, I was excited to try this place because my friends highly praised Sushi Kuni. We went on a Friday night and luckily there was an open table that just needed to be cleaned. After waiting 10 minutes for them to clean the table, another table left and the waiters decided that they actually wanted to seat us there so we had to wait another 10 minutes for them to clean the new table. Not a great start. We decided to get the premium AYCE ($29.99) so that we can try the premium sushi and nigiri. The toro, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, and uni nigiri on the premium menu (which you can only order once) tasted pretty good. Additionally, the quality of the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and eel nigiri was above average as well. Unfortunately, the fish to rice ratio was pretty poor. I've been to a few AYCE sushi places and this one definitely gave the most rice. Normally, I don't really comment on the service, but the servers here were clearly inexperienced. They were very inefficient in the way that they served. For instance, if one table asked for water, they would only fill water for that table instead of looking around at other tables. Therefore, my water was always empty and it always took several tries for me to flag down the waiters every time I needed something because they never checked their surroundings. This also caused an increased wait between our rounds, so we spent about 2 hours at the restaurant. As if the night couldn't get any worse, they informed us that they ran out of their green tea ice cream. I think that solidified that I will not be coming back to this establishment unless I start seeing reviews documenting their improvement. read more
