So let's see. Rolls - cannot taste any fish, definitely is not fresh, but of course you can't tell is it bad, reason? Their sauce is all over the roll, all you taste is the sauce, regardless what type of rolls, same sauce all over (I guess I am ordering sauce roll, not sushi roll) Nigiri - You cannot taste the fish at all, it taste nothing. We literally live next door so how can we not give this place a shot after putting it off for the longest time. AYCE sushi for $29.99. There are actually 2 options. The basic one are just rolls ($24.99) The premium one is the one you need to get. Which includes all the good stuffs. They do not have anything teriyaki so that's a bummer. You know you can't go wrong with some yummy teriyaki chicken and rice. Quality of the food was mediocre. Sushi tastes fresh, the rolls were rolled just right with enough of each ingredients. The miso soup, however, was way too salty. It literally made me cough. The garlic edamame was a bit too sweet. And lastly, the seaweed salad was a major fail, who mixes seaweed salad with other greens? Maybe it's just me, but that's hella weird. Just give less portion! Will we go back? Probably not. I got a message from Yelp promoting this new sushi place with 4-stars, so I figured I had to try it since I am constantly looking for decent sushi places in the SGV! Unfortunately, this place did not make it. Like many sushi establishments, this place is run by Koreans. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is also managed/run by a lot of young people who are loud. The waiters would stand behind my table and chit chat (loudly and even curse), which was very distracting. The bathroom looked like it has seen way better days and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was not good... which is scary since they serve raw food. FOOD: It was not bad, but not remarkable. The AYCE option is reasonably priced and the quality of the food was OK. Their premium sushi options were pretty good, but the rest of the stuff I tried was just OK. SERVICE: They were attentive and respectful when taking to us, but like I mentioned in my first paragraph, no waiter should be cursing and talking so loudly that I can hear you while I am trying to eat. Keep in mind I have two young children so cursing waiters are always a red flag for me. LOCATION: Great location with many parking choices around, including a few street parking spots near the entrance of the restaurant. NOTEWORTHY: A place to consider if you are looking for AYCE sushi, but the quality of the food and place are just OK. After we were seated we waited again for about 15-20 mins before someone came to asked what drink to order. 10 mins after our drink came and was told that he will be back to take our orders. 20-25 mins gone by no one came to our order or checked on us so I waived my hand to a waiter that was standing. He came over and I told him that we were ready to order and I was told ok let me get someone for you. 10 minutes after someone came and took out order and by this time we were super hungry. 30 minutes after some of the food we ordered came and we started eating. Since there was 4 of us and we were all hungry we finished pretty quick. We waited, waited and waited 20 minutes after the rest of the food came but our drinks were empty and no one asked if we need refills. My husband and I notice that the waiters will ask asian people if they need anything else and they would go back and forth asking them but no one goes on our table to ask if we need anything. We have unlimited sushi or premium but we left like it wasn't worth it because no one was coming to ask us if we want to order more or even refill our drinks. So we decided to ask for our check and even the check never came so my husband got up to the counter and paid over there. I told my husband maybe the service sucks because it was a busy night so after a month or so we decided to try it again. 2nd time- walked in and it was pretty dead 5ish. I was happy and told my husband and my kids ok now that it's not busy I'm sure we will get a better service. So we were seated right away and the guy asked what we would like to drink so we let him know. Five minutes after our drinks came so we were happy. He then asked if we were ready to order and I said we want the premium so we stared putting our orders in. First order came about 30 minutes so that's ok maybe it's because the type of food we ordered but I was like how are we gonna eat they didn't give up chopsticks and no napkins. So I asked the guy and he said ok. Ask we were waiting an asian of 4 walked in and as soon as they walked in they were seated next to us and took their orders. 10 minutes after their food came and we were still waiting for our chopsticks and napkins. So they stared eating and we were waiting so I called the waiters attention and asked for our chopsticks and napkins again and he looked at me like I was bothering him. Minutes after we finally got our chopsticks and napkins and finally we were able to eat our cold food. In the middle of us eating 3 different waiters came to our neighbors table asking them if they need anything or are they ready to order again but no one asked us or refill Our drinks even if they saw our glass pretty empty. So our neighbors table ordered more food and their food came pretty fast again and here we are waiting for them to check on us because we were ready to order again but I had to get someone attention again. So we ordered again and our food came 30 minutes again and we asked for refills but never got our refills so I asked again. I literally had to asked several times and I was so annoyed. We rushed eating so we can just leave there. I asked for the checked which was not given to us again so my husband went to the counter again to pay. Not coming back. First time here, wanted to try them out. My gf and I were really hungry, placed an order in person, and picked a table in the shade since we were going to eat there. The waitress/server comes to us with a spray bottle and told us to move to where these two children were already sitting. She started cleaning the table, with us barely standing out of our seats. It was super rude, inconsiderate, and when we told her we were dining, she still proceeded to give our table away to the people who ordered after us. I tried this newer sushi place the other day because I was in the area and wanted some sushi! Overall really delicious food, good service, but a little over the top. Let's start with the food; The nigiri is the perfect size, the rolls are a good size but the salad was not needed. Our server was very nice and the other person (who I think was the manager) was very attentive and wanted to make sure we were getting a good deal. I FREAKIN LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I come basically one to two days a week and let me say the sushi is SO BOMB OMG. They come out so fast and are so fresh and delicious and EVERYTHING. The quality of the fish is not good. the rolls have too much rice, appetizers were rubbery, and if you don't eat everything that you order --they charge one dollar per leftover! We won't come back. They give you 3 rounds of whatever you want in the menu including appetizers. And if you are really thirsty they have AYCD sake and beer. All and all I feel I have found my spot if you want to indulge on some sushi and not have to worry how much you spend. FYI for the AYCE make sure to get there 2 hours before the close to enjoy it. Also there are 2 parking structures nearby, so parking was very easy to find. The service was amazing. There were one particular waitress, I think her name is May, she was very nice and attentive. After browsing LA Eater the other day, I noticed this new AYCE sushi place. After our old go-to spot went down in quality, we have been looking for a new go-to, so we quickly decided to go for dinner. Upon our arrival, which was around 6pm on a Tuesday night, there were only 2 other parties and we were greeted by all 3 sushi chefs and the 3 servers. "Irasshai!!!" We were seated immediately and the server explained to us the AYCE menu. We opted for the $29.99 Premium AYCE option as it included Blue Fin Tuna, Salmon Belly/Carpaccio, Yellowtail Belly, Uni, and more. We marked a bunch of stuff we wanted and we were off! First thing to come out was the Spicy Tuna salad. You can't really mess this up... It was good. We then started to get our orders of Nigiri sushi. At first, we sent the plate back thinking it was not our order but after the server confirmed with the sushi chef, they brought it back to us confirming it was ours. We found it a bit odd that the yellowtail and yellowtail belly sushi looked exactly the same. When we tasted it, the belly did taste a little better but was barely on par with a better sushi restaurants 'normal' yellowtail. The Salmon Carpaccio was good but was drenched in a mayo-based sauce. I can only imagine this is done to hide the lower quality/freshness of the fish, which in this case, probably wasn't necessary. Albacore is usually one of my favorite fish but it was definitely NOT good here. It was seared and seasoned with pepper but the texture was stiff and chewy. At first we thought it was frozen but it wasn't cold enough to be recently thawed. Worst of all, there was a weird after taste that was extremely off-putting. We also ordered a Salmon Skin handroll, Spicy Tuna handroll, Eel & Avocado handroll, & a Spicy Yellowtail cut roll. The Salmon Skin was nicely cooked with a good amount of crisp. The other rolls were average at best. The Eel & Avocado handroll came out as a cut roll which we chose to just eat instead of sending it back. The Spicy Yellowtail was literally just pieces of yellowtail with some sriracha squeezed on top. For special rolls, we got the Albacore Special and the Godzilla. The Albacore Special was terrible with the same stiff/chewy albacore. We ended up sending this back. The Godzilla roll tasted ok but it was HUGE. Definitely much larger than the picture made it look. Overall, my wife and I both agreed that the fish quality at Sushi Me is below average. A lot of the bad reviews mention bad service however the service we got was pretty good. Probably because it wasn't too busy, however, I could tell that 2 of the servers were quite inexperienced as they made a few rookie mistakes. I would definitely not come back here. Parking was relatively easy in the parking structure across the street around 7pm on a Wednesday night Seating was immediate and drink orders were taken and served for our table of 3 as we were just settling in Atmosphere was good. Not too rowdy but not dead quiet Staff was friendly and attentive. Empty plates were promptly removed and water glasses were refilled without asking. Staff even tried to help change the huge overhead projector channel to the Lakers game but we just couldn't find it. We were asked multiple times how we were doing without being prompted during our stay Service was fast and accurate. We were never without food on the table Food was fair given this is an ayce joint and the tuna from the premium menu was my favorite. Rice to fish ratio was beyond my expectation as I typically just order nigiri from these places They gave us a break as we over ordered by a small amount which was surprisingly fresh Everyone will have his/her own opinion in regards to taste/freshness on the food. There were no complaints from my table tho none of us claim to be any sort of food connoisseurs My review is 5 stars due to the fact that the combination of the exceptional table service and the food has met and exceeded my expectations going in. Wasn't told there was a lunch AYCE to also choose from. Changed my order after I inquired on the lunch specials vs. lunch AYCE. Decided change my order to the AYCE, to wait 35minutes for two rolls!!! Waiter never came by to update on the delay. Instead kept reaching over me ( I was sitting at the bar) to grab orders. When I finally did get part of my order,the rolls were different sizes with specs of avocado in it. I received my second order before the first one was completed. The tiger roll looked like they filled it with half tempura shrimp and the rest with the left over fried tempura bits and some had no tempura in it. Definitely would NOT be back. This place is just amazing!!! I've been here twice and have been a fan since it's old name. I absolutely enjoy the taste of their sushi. Their premium special at $29.99 is a steal for what you are getting. It's unlimited sushi of 3 rounds and the perks of ordering their premium nigiri sushi which is so fresh. SERVICE: I love the service, not too in your face but also not ignoring you plus they are super nice. I get sometimes they have a full house and things can get hectic back at the kitchen but seriously I can't get mad at that. Prices for AYCE dinner on weekends start from $24.99 (for only appetizers and rolls) to $29.99 (for appetizers, rolls, nigiri, and premium items) a person. Parking is easy to find; there are both street parking and parking in nearby structures. My only complaint is the service. The restaurant seems understaffed on weekends. The waiters/waitresses are running around, trying to tend to all the customers. They don't seem to have a designated section of tables/customers so its easy to forget certain customer's orders (I had to ask three different people to check on the sprite I ordered for my brother). All in all, I do recommend this place if you're feeling AYCE sushi, just don't come on the weekends for dinner! read more
