They have a lot of pick up orders, and there was a group standing by their car directly outside of the restaurant smoking something that did not smell like cigarettes (you know what I mean). I felt like I was taking in the second hand smoke when dining here. Please expect that it will be very noise here. For example, people talked loudly by their car (the group I mentioned earlier), and cars making loud noises constantly drove by! Food was just ok. Servers were attentive! 2 stars for the services! NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. We used to frequent this restaurant but never going back after having my 6 & 3 year old yelled at by the server. We walked in and out within a minute. The restaurant was completely empty when we walked in today, kids walked in past the host stand as we were telling the host we needed a table for 5, the server immediately yelled at them saying "EXCUSE ME EXCUSE ME!" The host grabbed the utensils and menus and was walking us over and my kids touched a table and the same server yells at them again "WAIT UNTIL WE SET IT UP!!" Really loud and aggressive, my kids don't understand her and before I could say kids don't touch that, she starts swatting them away.... Totally unnecessary and just plain out rude so we walked out. Fresh and so delicious. I always order the avocado rolls and they are always fresh. The price is fair. It's a small restaurant but super cozy and clean. I love that I can order ahead and just pick up. Staff is always nice and will explain what's in the rolls. For parking you have to park in the lot behind them it's free so not bad. I love how their sushi doesn't smell like strong seaweed which leads me to believe it's extreme fresh. The rice in the rolls is perfect. Quality is amazing. read more

Highly disappointed in this place. I had the AYCE dinner and didn't really enjoy it. My friends and I placed our first round by using a pencil to mark what we wanted on the order sheet. When we gave it to the server, he requested us to remove some of the items because we were ordering too many and that there was no way we would finish everything. So we removed a few things, gave him the paper, and off he went. After receiving about two-thirds of the sushi we ordered, we did not receive anything else for the next 30 minutes. So we asked one of the employees why we still haven't received the rest of the food, and she said "We can't hold orders for too long, so we canceled them." We were shook by her response. If it's AYCE, why are they trying to limit our orders? If we have leftovers, they have the right to charge us extra anyway. Aside from the strange and unfriendly service, I do like how they have a wide variety of rolls and other items. The dragon roll and baked salmon roll were good. Everything else we tried was either mediocre or substandard. I was interested in the fact that they had rolls with no rice, so I decided to try the pink lady roll and green salmon roll. Unfortunately, these did not work well as rolls. They were not appetizing whatsoever, but my friends and I did our best not to waste any food. Eating here turned out to be a mistake. It is currently $32.99 for AYCE dinner, which is not worth it. A la carte prices might be better, but I don't plan on coming back. Went here on a Wednesday afternoon for their AYCE sushi. It wasn't busy at all, me and my fiancé got seated right away. There seemed to be only one sushi chef and back chef working, so food didn't come out as fast, but it's understandable. Their AYCE is the usual 3 rounds and a 90 minute time limit. I'm not sure how strict they are with the time limit though. Their premium sushi's are limited for 1 order a person which I found different, as other AYCE would limit premium to 2 orders per a person. The reason for the 3 stars is because I've tasted better quality fish at a more affordable AYCE pricing. On top of that, their menu compared to other AYCE menus is very limited. The AYCE price for dinner is now $32.99-pretty pricey for just ok food. You definitely should check the a la carte prices for what you plan to order before deciding whether or not to do AYCE. My a la carte totaled to less than $32.99 (around $21), but I did AYCE anyway because my friend wanted to share some items and I thought maybe I can eat just a bit more lol. They're pretty strict on finishing items. One of the appetizers we ordered was the spicy tuna crispy rice cake and it came with a whole lot of rice which we didn't want to finish, but had to if we didn't want to pay more. We even tried to pass the rest up, but server said we had to finish. So be extra careful on your selections! Food was just okay, nothing too fancy. Fish was decently fresh and the temperatures were good. Service was ok, I suppose. It's a small place and only 2 waitresses during dinner. We had to flag someone down whenever we needed something. Would I go back? If a friend wanted to dine there, then I wouldn't object (but I wouldn't do AYCE). However, not a place I would randomly choose to eat at. read more

Okay so my family and I have been looking for new sushi spots around SGV and found this little gem in the heart of Alhambra. They have amazing sushi here...not the most selections but the things on their menu is excellent. They don't have any ramen or raw oysters here which is fine since their fish is amazing. You have to order the Salmon Collar here...it melts in your mouth and it's delicious, my family ends up fighting for the last bites. Another dish to order is the Green Salmon Roll...it's wrapped in cucumber and the sauce is very good. Both the Salmon Skin and Sashimi Salads are also very very good, and they are reasonably priced. Surprisingly a really delicious AYCE joint! I always expect okay or average quality of fish going into AYCE places because you honestly get what you pay for; but for under $30, this has been one of the best places in the area. The restaurant itself is fairly small, which isn't a bad thing since you get your sushi quickly and they don't "skip/forget" rolls like they do at Asahi. Definitely recommend: Baked mussels: perfectly charred mussels topped with a rich mayo cream. Hands down the best I've ever had. Not ashamed to say, I ordered 4 orders of it. Seriously. Shisito peppers: lightly sautéed and tossed in a rich soy glaze. Great to snack on in between all the bites of raw fish Albacore carpaccio: the best of the carpaccio options. Tender fish and great dressing topped with crispy onions. Baked dynamite roll: generous amounts of crab mixture baked over a roll, a little heavy, but still yummy All the nigiri options were solid, there wasn't anything that I wouldn't order again. Personally liked the bay scallops, salmon, tamago, yellowtail sushi. We came an hour before closing, so we way over ordered too compensate the last call. Fair warning they WILL charge for unfinished rolls, so I recommend skipping the rolls and focusing on the nigiri because they give full portions of the rolls, which definitely fills you faster. Pros: 1) Fish to rice sushi was great, as they didn't put too much rice in the sushi 2) Easy to make reservation and didn't have to wait long to be seated 3) I know they had a time limit, but they didn't rush us out 4) Service was friendly 5) Parking isn't too bad, you can park in the adjacent parking structure 6) Not everyone in the table has to get AYCE 7) Favorite was definitely the yellowtail belly and the salmon! So fatty and melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Cons: 1) My biggest annoyance here is that they would run out of things and not inform us ahead of time. We ordered the premium sushi and we were informed that they ran out of uni AFTER we were served our food and inquired about it since it never came out. 2) They kept running out of things here. We never got ice cream as dessert because they "didn't restock" 3) Price. For $30 pp, I expected the quality of the fish to be better. At other AYCE places, they also provide dessert options, but this place did not. 4) Service was friendly, but I'm not sure if they were understaffed...it took a while for our teas/hot water to be refilled. 5) Miso soup was way too dark and salty. Wouldn't recommend it. We spent quite a bit at this restaurant for our party (over $350). For the money we spent, we left somewhat content (given my faves- the salmon and yellowtail belly). Recently this place opened up near my house and I realized that I had not eaten AYCE sushi in a while, so decided to try Sushi! I'll start of by saying that the service was amazing. They were so attentive and friendly the entire time were there. One of the chefs even made some special items for us, we sat right near the chefs, and th y were delicious! So they have an AYCE for lunch and dinner, it's dinner price all day weekend. Lunch is $24.99 and dinner is $29.99. What really stood out to me is that you can add AYCD sake and beer for an additional $13.99, so naturally my buddy and I did it. Not sure if it was the sale and beer talking but the food aaa amazing! Everything tasted so fresh and the rice to fish portion was great, I hate when they try and stuff you with rice. They're mussels were great, I even had 12 of them to myself. I would say the only bad thing about my visit was that my friend and I went too hard on the first round and never made it to the second one round. This is a new sushi place that replaced Izakaya Akatora. Their sign is actually still up and there's a little banner that says "Sushi Me". Might be time for them to take it down. We decided to come by here for the AYCE sushi for lunch on a weekend ($24.99/person). The place was pretty empty with one other party (of two) there. We opt in for the premium option but I don't know if the extra $5 was really worth it when you can only get one order per person for the premium fish. The AYCE sheet has 3 orders and essentially saying you can only have 3 piece of the fishes on the list per person. The premium fish comes with ONE fish per order where as the regular is TWO fish per order. Um.. what. Why? They do have a good variety of sushi rolls, but not too much when it came to nigiri options. It seemed limited to compare to other AYCE places I've been to in general. Quality is not bad for an AYCE place. It's not the greatest, but you get for what you pay for. Their rice ratio is actually not bad. It's not overly stuffed with rice as most other places would be. So they're not trying to over stuff you. Service is super slow here! There's only one sushi chef and there was only one other party here but it took forever for us to get our food. Our first round, we had about 2 rolls and 10 orders of nigiri, but that took like 15-20 minutes? They also messed up on one of our orders where we marked for a sushi hand roll and gave us a sushi roll. It's a good thing we were doing AYCE so we weren't being charged extra for a roll we didn't order.. We did three rounds but we tried ordering half way through our food to ensure we would get our food but it took so long to get a server's attention. On our last round, they kept coming by to ask if we needed anything else but we were still waiting for our food! We kept telling them, no but we're still waiting for our order.. At the end, it ended up taking like 10 minutes to get someone's attention to get the check and we didn't get our free ice cream! For the quality, it's not bad for AYCE sushi, but they really drag you down with their service. Not sure if this is a ploy to slow down ordering and so you eat less, but I would order a bunch your first round so you actually have food.. Your second round is going to take forever to come.. or to even be able to actually order. I was craving for sushi and wanted to go to my usual spot in Walnut: Ootoro Sushi when suddenly I saw a facebook ad pop up in my newsfeed - Sushi Me. Just opened and it had some pretty solid reviews on yelp. I thought to myself, why not? But the moment I stepped foot into this establishment, I knew I would regret it. I read reviews on yelp saying that their sushi is fresh. Sorry but it wasn't "fresh". The uni was the worst of all actually. It had the scent of a garbage truck after taste. That's the taste of old, stale uni that wasn't taken care of well enough. If it was really fresh, it would be smooth and creamy rather than have that pungent after taste. Scallops... same issue. Even though it was drenched in mayo sauce, there was a bad after taste that's only present when you use subpar quality seafood. The only acceptable fish here is the salmon. Better than the average conveyor belt sushi place... if that's your thing. The others I had (Bluefin tuna, Halibut, Tuna, Albacore, Mackerel, Yellow Tail) would fail in my books. In order to swallow them, I had to cover the taste with wasabi and soy and ginger afterwards. The quality is comparable to Nijiya Market. Tbh, the Uni at Nijiya or even Redondo beach is fresher. A restaurant's quality can't even beat a Japanese supermarket? Rice - Not even worth mentioning. Rice is the most important part of the sushi. If the sushi chef cannot make proper rice, then they probably can't do anything else correctly either. I avoided the rolls since it's all americanized and that's not what sushi is about. Sushi rolls are meant to be simple: seaweed, sushi rice, one type of fish and MAYBE some vegetables inside. If a restaurant has stuff like... rainbow roll, then you know... it's not an authentic Japanese restaurant. Food was relatively fast since we went around 3pm but they did not give us the green tea ice cream at the end so I'd say that their service was terrible. Also, they did not give the wasabi/ginger until I asked them. FYI they charge you for not eating the rice even if you ask them to make it without rice - which they will not do. so for those with dietary restrictions with regards to carbs/rice, don't bother coming. Price: $70-80ish for 2 people with the premium selection since they charge $2.50 for green tea. I would rather add an additional $50-$100 and go to Ootoro to get some quality sushi. This is my first AYCE sushi so I might have been a little harsh but still, sushi is sushi and quality matters. I will never ever forsake quality for ACYE. and I won't ever come back here. Think about it. Sushi is supposed to be high quality. You don't want to mess around with bad fish. If you can get unlimited sushi for only $29, it's not only lower ingredient quality, but also lower fish quality. read more
