Called to place an order 40minutes before closing time, and was denied other times I've ordered 20minutes before closing and got service. The bad experience I received today was unacceptable I was denied they said 30minutes before closing is cut off time but yet it was 40mintues before closing , my wife called exactly 30minutes and was not denied service. The lack of information is unacceptable I get it if you want to not give service 30minutes before service but be consistent. When I arrived I still had bad service server I'm guessing maybe owner. Wouldn't recommend coming here any later then 7pm they might kick you out dinning room at 8pm even though they close at 9pm. read more

A great spot for a quick affordable sushi. Don't expect anything fancy but does the job when you want some no frill fix. They also have other stuff. we got udon, and it was a bit over priced for the quality but I just wanted something warm and it did the job. Again, manage your expectations and it's great. I'm not going to go into too much detail but this is one of those places where you might want to consider going elsewhere. The conveyor belt sushi was lacking in quality and variety, making it hard to select ones that we found appealing. Tried a few, but was sadly disappointed. We did order a speciality roll which was a bit better in terms of flavor, but just like the conveyor belt sushi, freshness and flavor of the ingredients especially the rice, were underwhelming. Oh and the pickled ginger was very rancid and pungent that my son had to spit it out. I didn't believe him so I took a small sample of it and was contemplating whether we should leave for fear of food poisoning. Also ordered tempura and it was not crispy at all, more like chewy and overcooked as if it was fried a second time. I am an avid sushi lover and was looking forward to sushi after a long shift in healthcare. Unfortunately, the cuts of sushi were awful, they were slim, uneven, bland and tasted very old. I'm hoping I don't get sick. It appears as if the sushi chefs are not well trained or the restaurant is serving cheap and old cuts of fish to save money. The tempura and the miso were cold. My husband's beef bento was also cold. Honestly I prefer supermarket sushi to this sushi and ended up not eating my sashimi. Very poor quality and poor presentation. I grew up eating conveyer belt sushi so when the location in Beaverton closed, I had to find a new place. Sushi Zen was delicious and the service was great. I highly recommend their seared salmon! Came here for some quick sushi, and overall I liked it. Sushi was priced by different plate color, and was beautifully made. I tried all different color plates and they are all decent. My first visit to this place was great - some delicious offerings that I had not had anywhere else. And the staff was so nice and helpful! I was excited to go back...... However, today was not the same experience. The waiter seemed to be bothered by me ordering off the menu and not the belt. I asked the chef for sauce he chastised us both and said he would take care of it. I just felt like I was bothering him so I asked her. I shrugged it off and finished my meal. We all have tough days right? I am GUILTY :) When it was time to pay our bill it came to almost $50. I handed the server a $100 which he tossed on the counter and said they could not give me change. I looked in my wallet and had the exact amount with no money for a tip and I said sorry I don't have enough for a tip. He went to hand me my change and I said no thanks I don't need the change, said thank you and we left. When my son and I got in our car I noticed the door of the restaurant open and he threw the change out onto the ground. Yes, he actually walked out and made it a point to throw the money on the ground by my car. I honestly was shocked, embarrassed and disgusted. You can have a bad day, but that was over the top. They have bar seating and booths seating four. Soothing music plays in the background, but I'm not sure if it's Asian. Hand sanitizer, soy sauce, and wasabi are at every booth. They had a wide array of rolls to select from. Conveyor belt sushi restaurants usually have rolls that are just a remix of the same ingredients but Sushi Zen is different. They have truly refreshing and creative rolls that are all well balanced. The nigiri was affordable yet fresh and of good quality. I was surprised by the big size of the nigiri. At times like this when the pandemic has hit small businesses hard, I'm reassured that mom and pops like this are maintaining high quality. While I was waiting there was lots of orders for 4 pm. As far as the dinning environment, It seems a little aged. But what stand out from the rest is the value. It only cost $20 for 3 sushi rolls. It's even cheaper than Japanese grocery store that I went to, but honesty, it taste just fine. My order came out relatively quick (about 50% restaurant capacity at the time) However, the only downside was the services. They only have two front desk server when I visit. It's hard to garb their attention. Overall pretty decent place to have quick and affordable meal. read more

I am a 72 year old handicapped person. I have been eating at Sushi Zen for over 2 years. We went in the other night and a Male waiter refused to let us sit at one of the tables. We have always sit at a table it has never been a problem before. We got there at 5pm on Saturday there were only 6-7 people in the whole restaurant. I couldn't believe we were refused to be seated at one of the tables. We usually spend close to $ 100.00 on food and leave a 25% tip. We left pissed off and went to another Sushi restaurant in Hillsboro. We will never go back and be insulted like that again. I ate at Sushi Zen for years, farther back than the current owners. It was a weekly ritual for me on Wednesdays. Sadly, they have changed the recipe for their sauces and decided to add cheese. I tried asking the chef to make the rolls with the old recipe, but I still managed to grab rolls that had a sauce with cheese in it. I got sick from the cheese in the sauce twice. This is our first time eating here. We have a family of 3 and our 3 year old loved the atmosphere and watching the chefs make the sushi rolls.
