I've been here a bunch of times and never had stellar service but never been super annoyed or ignored. Groups, small parties, variety of experiences. Tonight was the first time I've ever been in for dinner with my whole family and essentially couldn't get service. All we could get was waters. We would have plowed some udon, ramen, a sushi not on the track...but after 20 mins couldn't get either server to wait on us. It's cool, we're taking our business up to Mio Sushi instead. I went here for the first time yesterday. I have a few places closer to me I prefer but I do like this restaurant. The key here seems to be to just order everything from the chef who is VERY eager to make you whatever you want. I had some nigiri which was pretty decent though a touch more expensive than other track sushi for the same size and quality. Their shrimp tempura was pretty good - especially for the price - getting a small pile of it for $2...not bad. I tried a few half rolls as well and I must say I like the option of half and whole rolls. Their cucumber roll and shogun were definitely favorites though I also had them make me a pretty awesome yellowtail roll. My only real complaint is privacy - the whole restaurant seems set up for you to just eat and leave - that is also the impression I was given with being asked every few minutes if I wanted something else. They are trying to be helpful but it almost seems a bit much and with the restaurant being so small you just feel like you are sitting with everyone. read more

It started out as it always does - 'what do you want to eat' my boy and ask each other almost at the same time. Theoretically, the first person to ask doesn't have to come up with something. I lost out this time, so I tossed out the suggestion of sushi. Then it came down to where? Sushiland, I suggested? No, that was the other way. Sushitown? No, that's not good. Mentioning Hot Pot 'n' Sushi wasn't going to happen even though it's close because frankly, they have the most overpriced, under-tasty sushi out there. AND THEN! We saw a cute little placard for Sushi Zen. We decided to give it a go as long as it was a track - yes it was! It's nothing too special inside, just a double track with seats around it and some booths. There's a big screen TV so you can watch a game or whatnot while eating. The plates range in price of $1-$3.25 but they have speciality rolls you can order if you're feeling more fancy. All the rolls I had were clearly fresh & well prepped. The track remained pretty full of a variety of rolls - definitely a plus in my book as some tracks just have 30 plates of one roll sometimes - really guys? Anyway, pretty dang good at a fair price for some tasty sushi. read more

I was a regular customer at this location, primarily due to its convenience, but I cannot handle the female owner anymore. She is consistently rude when I receive my take-out order. On multiple occasions, she's said "extra soy sauce? that's not healthy!" or "You don't need more spicy mayo for your meal". Recently, she tried to charge me extra for the smallest spicy mayo packet I've seen in my life. REALLY? CONDIMENTS SHOULD NOT COST EXTRA - especially when it's SOY SAUCE at a sushi place. Wow. What can I say but "Meh". I'm a considerable sushi connoisseur (okay, maybe not a connoisseur but I definitely can recognize the good stuff from the cheap stuff). First timer's here, went out with Wife N. for some conveyor belt sushi. Now, I've had really high-quality (and high-price) conveyor belt sushi, and then I've had "okay" quality really cheap conveyor belt sushi. But the problem here is that the sushi was neither high quality, nor cheap. It was expensive and comparatively average to mediocre. Most plates were about 50-75% higher price than I'd expect (Salmon and Tuna in the $2.50 range, Saba (Mackerel) I think was over $2.00). Everything was really pricey, and the pieces were pretty small. The quality, honestly, wasn't all that great. It was roughly the same as Marine Polis or maybe not even as good, but nearly double the price (and sometimes more). Having spent $18, both of us were still hungry, and went out somewhere else for the "other half" of our lunch, as we simply couldn't afford to buy any more sushi here. For $18-20 we normally are totally stuffed silly at MP's. Maybe it was just an off day, but having eaten at fifty different sushi places up and down the entire west coast I was just really unimpressed. read more

Pretty small and not the cleanest place. They definitely need a redesign of the place. They have random TV satellite things around the kitchen that havent been used and just collect dust. The food is overpriced and not of high quality. You'll get charged over $1.25 for a small roll filled mostly with avacado and rice, little salmon. I've seen customers have to ask for their salad and miso soup when everyone else around them is getting it. Went here today for the first--but not the last---time. We used the Yelp app to see what was nearby as we had been out shopping and needed a quick bite. (they actually are in Aloha not Beaverton). The restaurant is located in the Safeway strip mall. The owner was very courteous. She encouraged us to ask for anything we wanted if we did not see it on the belt. However, we found more than enough on the belt. There were rolls and Nigiri--we had eel, salmon, tuna, and mackerel. There were also sweets (we did not try). Everything was fresh and well prepared. We had our fill for $25. As this place is about 1.5 miles from our house, I think we will be regulars. read more

This used to be our go to place. Not anymore. We ate here at least once a week for years. Now, you wait forever for your food. They only care about take out orders. The food on the conveyor is old. My wife always orders teriyaki chicken and rice with no sesame seeds - the last two times it's been covered in seeds , doused in sauce and barely any chicken. The music is LOUD pop music - not the right crowd for all that - and teenagers running the show ( & they're always behind the curtain) I sat for 8 minutes waiting to order something. Ridiculous. I have to preface this by saying I lived in Japan for eight years, and I'm picky, if you call being disappointed by non-authentic Japanese food being picky. This place might fool you if you don't have a suitable reference, but urgh. My friend's roll looked good. I ordered beef ramen and it literally looked and tasted like instant ramen with some cheap beef thrown in. Really, really, REALLY unimpressive. I've had better ramen from a styrofoam cup of instant noodles. I also ordered unagi and maguro nigiri, but I never got them, so I can't rate them. The kid forgot that part of my order, and by then I didn't care anymore. If you like food that is called sushi and looks sushi-ish, give it a try. For all I know the rolls and the nigiri are ok. Based on their effort with the ramen, I wouldn't bet on it. Skip it and go to Toshi or Syun or Hakatamon, or basically anything other than this place. read more

Sushi Zen is a lovely conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Aloha. It is walking distance from my house whenever I get a hankering for sushi which is almost all the time. For times when I don't want to shell out the money for fresh off the boat sushi but not inclined to eat bargain conveyor belt sushi, this place fits right in the middle of it. I really like the variety that they offer. Unlike some conveyor belt sushi places, this place even at the least busiest of times, has enough variety that you're not stuck with options like California Roll or California Roll with tuna on top, or California Roll with a drizzle of house sauce. You get the picture. The proprietors of this establishment are nice and attentive. I have a good a experience every time I come here. I am a fan of the handrolls here. read more

My absolute favorite conveyor-belt sushi joint. The owners are both amazing people who will make you feel like family. The rest of the staff have always been quick, friendly, and attentive. Very kid friendly too. They don't keep ginger sitting out but you can ask for it right away and they are happy to give you as much as you'd like, as well as their spicy mayo which I can't go without! Delicious rolls and a good variety of items on the belt at all times. I really appreciate how accommodating the chefs are as well, for food allergies, picky eaters, etc. Prices are fair and the space is comfortable. The two tvs are at the perfect volume, you will only notice them if you want to. Compared to the many other sushi spots I've tried in the area this place is a gem. read more

Delicious food and awesome service. The sushi was tasty. Plates are between 1.50-3.25. Sort of disappointed in portion size. The presentation on many of the plates was average. Chef tended overuse siracha mayo. Got a soda, four pieces of Nigiri and about 7 pieces of sushi for 14.50, which didn't seem worth it after tip. For quick little fix at lunch I will most likely return and actually order my roll rather than from the moving trolley. read more

Another Korean sushi place masquerading as a Japanese restaurant. It's very clean, and has a big selection of small plates including fresh fruit and what looked to me like PB&J sandwiches. The prices are about average, I would say. The quality of the sushi rice is poor, it is bland and mostly flavorless, and they had very little sashimi on the belt when I dined here on. Friday afternoon. Staff was friendly and attentive, but the place wasn't very busy either. We recently moved here from SF Bay Area. Japanese food is always top on our list whenever we ate out, so when we read the reviews of this restaurant on Yelp, my daughter and I were excited to try it out. Now, we did show up on a cold, snowy day so the restaurant had little patrons. The selections on the conveyor belt looked like they have been going round and round for sometime, aka, not fresh. I tried a few and was NOT impressed at all. I'm mind boggled about all the 4 and 5 star ratings here. May be standards for Japanese food is really low here? I'm very new to sushi, so my expectations and such may differ from your experiences. I went here with my daughter who loves sushi and says this is her favorite place now. This place is located in a strip mall and is a rotating line of sushi plates. She's much more experimental than I am and took plates off the line that she thought would be good. For the most part, the items were good, (priced by the color of the plate). I'd have liked a better idea of what I was getting and by the end of dinner, items that I know I liked started showing up. You can order from a menu if you like, or be on an adventure. There were a couple of plates I didn't care for, but most were decent. Kind of sucks paying for something that doesn't suit you and I still have no idea of what some of the things were that I liked, which is too bad as I'd order them again. (That's on me though). The menu has pictures, but of course, they don't match reality. There's a fair chance I'll be back as it is easy to get a variety of different rolls, versus just one or two. Not much in the way of service, one person taking orders, cleaning up, seating and taking the check. Towards the end, a couple of chef's came from the back and made some rolls. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it's about a 5 minute walk from my house, but it was underwhelming. First time we went, they seemed short staffed and worried about it - there was almost nothing on the track (it was not a weird time of day either). Second time we went it fared a little better - the selection looked normal, they had some interesting rolls. Almost everything here has mayo sauce on it. The rice was terrible (gummy and squishy), their salmon was meh. Normally I go straight for a ton of salmon nigiri, but didn't feel inspired to get more than one. Everything fried was squishy from being in the plastic cups. Sushi Town is another track place in the area, and I think I'd probably go there over here, just because the fish quality is better. But I've still not found a sushi-go-round that I can say I really like. They do have a nice big screen TV though, which I guess is neat. read more

The female owner is probably one of the rudest women I have ever met. My husband and I live across the street and came for an early dinner 3 times in the course of a month. We each always have about four plates, maybe 5 if we have dessert. The third time in about two months we went to happy hour. She charged us full price and told us happy hour is only for new customers. Rude, but ok. Mind you we were coming once a week during regular hours for a date night. One night my husband didn't have a big appetite but went with me to satisfy my craving. He had three plates during non happy hour. The owner stood there for a good two minutes giving my husband shit for not eating more. Really? Then again, I've never been to Aloha. The sushi was OK. The sushi chef (owner?) is super super friendly and adorable. When I was there, I watched him tolerate brash customers with cheeriness and plays along with their racist ignorance. I really liked him but I'm sad to say that I was disappointed by the food. The flavor of the sushi and the variety was lacking. I found myself disinterested in eating more after 3-4 dishes. Most of the dishes were deep fried and I wasn't interested in trying the "sushi pizza" (nori topped with rice?, artificial crab, mayo and stuff) or the "Mexican roll" but other people there were all over it.
