Ugh, please return to your former glory. Every time we dine here is out of convenience and hoping we could go back to the days of 10 years ago when this was the best sushi place, ever. Service and cleanliness has greatly improved, staff are fine. Location is still in need of serious upkeep and dated is no longer the correct word. Now as for the sushi. Its well, "meh". This visit we were served by two different sushi chefs, both of which had completely different skillsets and passion, which showed in the presentation and flavor. Sunshine roll was loaded with various fish but bordering on that "its barely fresh" line. Yummy Yummy roll was OK however nothing special (yet according to their menu is the #1 roll) and 007 Roll was decent however awfully similar to the cherry blossom roll. Same concerns aside, the menu has drastically shortened, old favorites gone and speaking of menu is absolutely rushed and not very inviting. Tons of spelling errors etc etc etc. I get it, its on the boardwalk, its "trendy" and likely attracts a certain clientele but please reconsider the basics as this location can be soooo much more than it currently is. read more

Not the best experience. Upon arrival we were met with attitude from the hostess as if our presence was an inconvenience to her day. I ordered pick up totaling 167.09. I ordered a multitude of rolls and nigiri. Everything is overly sauced the fried sweet shrimp head and tempura was put together with the raw nigiri which is the ultimate no no as hot/fried should not be included or next to cold raw items. As far as presentation it was the best it could be I guess for to-go. The flavors were unbalanced in every way and extremely salty and over sauced, if you have high blood pressure steer clear as their menu items will have you right in the arms of a stroke. I'd give the freshness a 5 out of 10 especially since the raw fish was hot after being included with the fried food and in the world of sushi that is deplorable. Not bad, not bad at all! They have pretty big portions and great lunch bento boxes. I had the spicy pork (Korean dish) and the sushi. The pork was very delicious and totally hit the spot because I've been craving Korean food for a week and being out here in Shreveport for a month doesn't give you many Korean food options. However, I think Sushiko is Korean owned so they do have a few Korean dishes. I've eaten here three times so far and been satisfied every time. The fish is fresh and huge slices of sashimi/sushi. The seaweed salad was pretty good as well. Overall they have a great selection of sushi options/udon and teriyaki so you really can't go wrong. I think it's the only sushi restaurant in this area that I would trust. Some of my friends checked out a few other spots in this area and were very disappointed. So I think I'll stick to Sushiko while I'm out here. But do keep in mind this isn't your traditional Japanese Sushi restaurant, it's more Americanized so it's great as long as that's what you're looking for. read more

Went shopping and wanted to stop for healthier food. I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I come from an area where sushi is exceptional and very fresh. This came as close as something could for not being back home. The staff was very attentive and the wait staff and bus staff cleaned every table instantly. If I had to complain about anything it would be the serving was too much food but who complains about that. Definitely try the salad with ginger dressing. It's very good an unique. The somethings wrong #3 and cherry blossom rolls are great. This will be my full thumbs of for any restaurant I have reviewed too. Great job!! read more

How does this place only have 3 1/2 Stars?? I was impressed and surprised by how great everything was at Sushiko. After spending too much time in Bass Pro, we decided to grab some sushi. We walked in around 4pm (thurs) and it was completely empty. We were the ONLY people in there, We ordered the 007 Roll, Seaweed Salad, Ahi Tower, Salad, Miso Soup, Monkey Brains and another roll that we don't remember the name of. First of all, the dressing on the salad was AMAZING and was topped with crunchies that made it just a great tasting salad. Seaweed salad tasted just like seaweed salad- no surprises there- but it was good! Monkey brains, 007 and Ahi Tower = YUM! YUM! YUM! We live on the coast and are used to great sushi, but this place was "some of the best sushi I've ever had" according to my husband. And I agree. Can I just say that these are the largest portions I have ever seen at a sushi restaurant! Plus the quality, presentation, and taste was great! I have no complaints about the service at all everyone was very nice and our server Dania was very helpful and actually KNOWS the menu! The only thing I would have like would be a little more room in the restaurant, I felt very close to everyone. We definitely plan on going back for the dinner bento box. So the plan was he would go to Bass Pro and I would go get us a table and order until he got there...sounds good in theory...what actually happened was we got out of the car, he went to BPS and I realized I had left my mask in the locked car...I waited outside of Sushiko for about 5 -7 min (Did I mention it was raining) when the manager steps out and asks me if I was coming in. I told him my mask was in the car and I didn't have my keys...he could have told me to get to steppin, but what he did next will forever make me a patron of this restaurant! My favorite restaurant I have been to on my visit to Shreveport, and I've been exploring tons of places on this trip. For those that enjoy sushi but are always wary of visiting an unknown sushi restaurant when out of town, this place gets my stamp of approval. The sushi is good and fresh. I've tried their salmon, yellowtail, smelt roe, albacore, white tuna, and only didn't enjoy the mackerel cut I got one time. Wanted to try toro but they didn't have any fresh at this time. The menu items were good: BBQ ribs, chicken etc. The batter on the soft shell crab and shrimp tempura was a little thick, it's rare I find a place outside of my favorites in LA that use the right amount. False advertising on website about happy hour. One server said there hasn't been one in 8 years, but owner refuses to update the website. He also said that this is frequently an issue but the owner doesn't care. While the beef teriyaki had decent flavor, I had to ask for silverware and water. Dinner on a whim here tonight... Just an average sushi place. I ordered the Something Wrong #4 and Husband ordered the Pick 3 platter with a Cali Roll, Philly Roll and Texas Roll. My roll was mediocre, partially because it contained something that I was unsure of and the shrimp tempura wasn't fresh. Husband enjoyed his, even though his platter didn't contain as much as the menu lead us to believe. Miso soup was up to par, but the ginger salad was DISGUSTING! I've never had ginger salad dressing like that... And I hope to never again. Service was nice, and we received our food quickly. The sushi here is pretty good. I usually have a roll or some sashimi but tonight I had the teriyaki steak, squid salad, miso soup and miso dressing on my salad. To drink I had a Tsingtao. Overall the food was good. The squid salad wasn't bad, it was about what I would expect, I suspect that it was prepackaged and not made fresh...a note of caution, the beer does not pair well with the salad. My chief complaint is the steak...the cook cooked it too fast which made it chewy. I would have rather waited a little longer for a steak that was more carefully prepared. The rest of the meal is exactly what I expected it to be. The wait staff is courteous and attentive and the prices are fair. I've been here before and this is the first time I've had a negative experience. So I'm inclined to give them 3 stars, but due to previous positive experiences they get four. I just won't get the steak again. read more

I have to defend this place. One of my favorite sushi places now. I usually always take advice that I find on yelp and thankfully I couldn't look it up on my phone that day. I would have missed out on a seriously good meal. We went on a Saturday night during Mardi Gras. There was a pretty big crowd (after the Gemini parade) and they told us it'd be a 15 minute wait. We sat at the bar and I got a strong large sake while my boyfriend had a whiskey and coke. The bar maid was really cute and very social. When we were seated we found that this place was actually a Japanese sushi bar (which is unusual around the East Texas area in my experience, the majority is Vietnamese or Korean). Usually when you go to a sushi place and they have hamachi kama on the menu you know it's Japanese (even though they had some Korean dishes on the menu as well). They also had a selection of udon, appetizers, and salads that are not usually in this part of the country. We got the baked green mussels which were really good, shrimp and veggie tempura, hamachi kama, a delicious spicy tako salad (mmm), the titanic roll (good), a really good fried roll that I forgot the name of, an array of perfect sashimi, and a fireman roll (which I highly recommend to the California roll fans) that came engulfed in flames... I also got a yummy salmon skin hand roll and my b/f had a spicy yellow-tail hand roll that was good too. The prices were all very inexpensive except the fireman roll ($16) and the hand rolls ($6.50). You can get them as regular sized rolls and get more but my boyfriend thinks hand rolls are special for some reason... We pigged out for a pretty low price. The service was excellent too. It's definitely not a traditional Japanese sushi bar but they have great sushi and some traditional dishes too. Very cool place. Don't pass this place by, it's really worth it. read more

Although they seem busy my food and drinks came out promptly :) Food: Sakura roll- wrapped in cucumber, salmon, YT, white tuna, and tuna, avocado, and my favorite part!! Some seaweed (from seaweed salad) On a bed of ponzu sauce, super refreshing and yummy! I also got the yellow tail nigiri sushi which was cut a very generous portion, and it had such a fresh, buttery taste. I would've ordered more if I wasn't full, that's how good it was. My boyfriend ordered the dinner spicy pork with fried rice which was good, but nothing too special because we always eat Korean food. Then I had to remind her again about the fried rice I ordered, and she brought me brown rice. My mom and I were in Shreveport for a conference, and we were staying at one of the hotels nearby. We decided to walk over to Sushiko for lunch on Sunday. We were seated immediately, but the place filled up pretty quickly with other diners. Now while I'm a bit of a sushi snob, my mom had never eaten sushi before. I ordered the tuna sashimi and my mom ordered a bento box. We were served promptly, and all of our food tasted fresh.
