So this place is a weird combination to be sure, but honestly (and speaking from someone who has only eaten the more Mexican side of the offerings) this is a place I will TOTALLY be coming back to. The food was great, and my service was also amazing. So first of all, I went on a Tuesday. This plave is neatly in between where I work and where my roommates and I live. I planned to meet my roommates but knew they would be coming a bit later than I could wait to get a snack after work--so I plopped down here to have a snack and a drink before they joined me for taco Tuesday. I ordered the garlic edamame, and it was fabulous. My waitress told me there was a 'spicy' garlic edamame where they add Sriracha sauce, so I'll have to try that next time. I also ordered a single michelada, which is the coolest thing I've ever ordered at a restaurant before. It comes in a huge margarita shaped glass, complete with tajin and chamoy around the brim, and also with cucumber and shrimp (if you have a shrimp allergy, make sure to tell your server up front!). Needless to say, it was fabulous. Check out photos to see it for yourself. Once my roommates arrived, we wanted more than just edamame for taco Tuesday. While there are no taco Tuesday specials, their normal prices are amazing: 3 tacos for 5.95, and these are not skimpy tacos by any means (see photos). I got the recommended tacos al pastor which were delightful. I also got a shrimp ceviche tostada which was great... But I ate my tacos first so the tostada was pretty flimsy from being soaked with the delicious lemon juice from the ceviche. Would recommend both to anyone visiting, and my server said al pastor were the most popular tacos and that the ceviche tostadas were super popular. Also, I've seen in other posts that service was not great - - I had the opposite experience. There was hardly anyone else in the restaurant and our server was always coming back to check on me (when I was waiting for my roommates) and she came back many times when my roommates arrived, as well. I'm not sure if it was just a better nice for service or what, but I had a great service and the server spent time to tell me their popular dishes and give me recommendations. Overall, great experience. Looking forward to going back and trying out some of the sushi someday... But the ceviche really satisfiedy craving for delicious fish for a bit. read more

Worst experience twice. My one friend likes this place so we tried it again even though the last experience was with this head waitress and very poor service and attitude. Well tonight we asked to see what we were paying for before we just handed over our money and she got attitude and shoved the machine in my face and hand. Then she kept saying she would show us after we paid. She was so rude and the food wasn't even all that great. We had to send the burrito back for being too spicy and un edible. Okay well when you walk in you immediately get hit with the smell of the restrooms which wasn't a good smell! Like rotten sewer. BUT! The Micheladas were amazing! But the food was basic. My husband ordered Shrimp tacos and the Shrimp was micro tiny. They didn't have any Mexican hot sauces like Tapatio or Valentina. So my aunt packed up her shrimp cocktail to eat at home. The ROMEO's Stopped in for our 1:30 lunch yesterday and really put the skills of Alex's to the test. When we came in, even though there was only three of us, I asked for a table for six and was promptly seated in one of the larger booths along the back wall. We got our drink orders and when another brother showed up, he asked to change tables. We got up, without notifying Alex and went to a table for 4, Smaller in my opinion but suitable to the latecomer. We ordered our food, three Mexican plates and one Japanese. The 2 wet burritos arrived, one shrimp, one al pastor both beautiful and large (the al pastor was warm not hot, my brother noted) and three carne asada street tacos, burgeoning with meat and full of flavor. I had the golden platter of sushi, well done and just the right portion without being AYCE, we settled in. 15 minutes into enjoying our meal my other brother shows up with his wife. Needless to day we needed a bigger table!!! We again moved to a larger table in the middle of the restaurant (our third table). Thank God our 1:30 lunch time allowed for a few table choices and the service was never smoother. My brother and his wife shared a Mojarra Dorada (whole deep fried talapia) and a salad. All the rest of us said that is what we will order next time! Honestly I was so impressed with this restaurant the decor and the atmosphere was amaxing definitely felt like I was at a high class place .. the food was excellent I ordered two plates of the crunch roll because it was so good the service was amazing the waitress Yesina was so kind and helpful she explained all the menu items that interested us I think this is a really cool concept because I love sushi and my partner loves tacos and we can both eat at the same place .. the wood boards as plates were a nice touch ! It was my daughter and my first time at this sushi spot. It took a while before we were seated even though they were not busy. Our server wasn't very friendly or attentive towards us. When the food arrived it was good. Nothing really special about it. I felt like it was too pricey, not just the food but the drinks too. As we were leaving, our waitress and the manager or owner, were outside, bringing food to a homeless lady. This melted our hearts and was en incredible way to end the night. Customer service is good, my review is solely on 3 times I have been here to eat. I kept hoping for cleaner results. I ordered tostada Reyna on all three occasions, all three occasions they missed to clean the shrimp and did not bother to marinate the raw shrimp in lime. I came here with my partner, and as soon as we walked through the door we were greeted warmly and seated. When asking about sushi the waitress was very informative and also gave recommendations. They give chips and salsa which was surprising for being a sushi bar and very yummy. We ordered the creamy crunch sushi roll which was absolutely delicious. I ordered from uber eats, and it took over 3 hours to get my food delivered (it may have been due to lack of drivers?). Despite this, the sushi was fresh and tasty! I ordered the salmon crunch roll, creamy crunch roll, and chicken burrito. However, I got tacos instead of burritos delivered which was a bummer because the chicken was dry. Their restaurant is a mexican -asian fusion and it's actually amazing. This wouldnt be a daily sushi eater for me, but once every few months? sure!! Their sushigon specialty roles are quite pricey, we ended up spending 75 bucks on 4 roles and 2 michiladas. agua Chile role, el Hijo de sushigon, el mar y la tierra role and a tiger role I believe. How can this place possibly have 4 ?!? This was possibly the worst $80 we've ever spent. It's obvious that the rolls are premade and sitting for lord knows how long and the fish was not fresh. Food was good, I've been there a few times with my family. The reason my review is a 1 star is because of their service. When we walk in we are greeted with the foul smell of the restrooms. I'm a family of 6 and we are automatically charged the gratuity, which normally doesn't bother my husband and I however when we don't get the service we expect I don't see why we are obligated to pay the 18% gratuity fee if it wasn't earned by the waitress. I wasn't given an option to select what gratuity I'd like to leave. Mind you several times my husband or child had to get up and go to the bar to get a refill on their drinks or condiments that we needed. I don't think I'll be returning again. read more

Only the second day of operation, but the novel combining of Mexican seafood (mariscos) and sushi works well for Sushingon. I also like that they avoided the term 'fusion' that is so overused today by other establiments. Located on Magnolia where the pizza joint and Italian place used to be, parking is ample in the lot off the street. I arrived before 5pm and sat at the sushi bar, taking note of the new equipment and eager to peruse the menu. For now, however, the beer and wine license is still pending (10/29/16), so I asked for water. My primary contact was Fernando, who was the sushi chef, and two other people were working as well. A gal was the server on the floor and the older gentleman was the chef in the back kitchen. I included photos of the menu, and I am intrigued by the variety and recipes. My thought was to try one Mexican dish and some sushi to gauge the overall execution and presentation. First off was the carne asada tacos. Using marinated skirt steak, they had lots of flavor and minimal fat. I'd definitely order them again, especially because of the price: three for five dollars! Additionally, I wanted to try the Jalapeño Roll ($9.25) from the sushi bar and they offered a reasonably priced Golden Platter for only $14.95. The latter contains one spicy tuna roll and eight pieces of nigiri sushi, including tuna, salmon, shrimp and a wonderfully marinated albacore. In fact, I appreciated the lack of sauce on the albacore and thought the flavors melded well. The presentation of the platter was very nice and I managed to eat everything although I really stuffed myself in the process. I was also able to observe the two televisions behind the sushi bar and they kept College Football and the World Series going for the other customers. Indeed, when I left, there were two larger parties dining and several other tables eating or waiting to order. Some observations for critical analysis. As a former restaurant employee (dish washer, prep cook, line cook, expeditor and server, in that order) some coordination will be needed from the food coming out to getting checks processed. Plus, three people are not enough to manage a busy rush, so I'd recommend at least one more person to work the dining room floor. The food I watched leave the kitchen looked spectacular, so I believe success will come from there. Only two-days in though, and I am considering a return soon. read more
