Dragon Fly Roll - very good.

Sushi is fresh. The tempura is tasty. It would have been nice if the waitress would have described which pieces of sushi the chef picked for us on the Osaka. Prices were a tad high and the place was not crowded at all. Super casual.

This was our first time visiting this sushi restaurant and absolutely loved it! I loved the downtown feel and atmosphere as well as the interior of Sushi Ya! I felt like it was in a true Japanese sushi house. The weight staff and sushi chefs were amazing! Try the buttered edamame and miso soup! We got the Rainbow Roll and I got the rice less Sumo Roll! They were very fresh and loved the fresh wasabi! Will definitely go back!

Great sushi in downtown Dallas! My husband introduced me to this place after he fell in love with their "Tuna Lover" lunch special. I can agree it's a great deal for the quality and quantity of tuna they give you ($17). When i want something a little different, I get the tower. It's a lot of food! Make sure to mix it together to get the perfect combo of creamy, crunchy deliciousness. Every time I've been (lunch) it's busy. Because the hours cater to the local business professionals, if you're coming on the weekend or not during lunch hours make sure they are open before coming.

Sushi chef, Terry, knocked it out of the park with his salmon skin rolls (Gluten Free for me)!!!! Presentation, flavors, taste, and freshness are five-star worthy!!! The greetings and smiles makes me feel welcome every time.

    Sushi stairway to heaven!

Sushiya is a great place to get fresh, generous slices of succulent sushi and sashimi at a very reasonable price. Don't think "raw fish in Dallas?", but instead ask is there a thoughtful sushi master who knows how to choose a good selection of fish and how to prepare it. This was some of the best I have had in a long time. Service was also excellent and friendly. The chef came over to the table to check on our satisfaction, which gave us the chance to thank him for his efforts. Don't miss this place.

My BFF and I were in the area. To pass time, we went to Sushiya. We had to park in one of the paid parking lots a block away and it was chilly out. That's downtown for you. The restaurant was nice on the inside and the staff were friendly. Sal did an excellent job with our sushi rolls. Prior to making them, he discussed our order with us to ensure that he made them exactly how we wanted them. He didn't miss. They were on point. I got the Volcano Roll minus the onions and requested real crab in place of the imitation. There was an up charge which was to be expected and it was really good. Bestie went with the Love Love Roll because she wanted a riceless roll. She was pleased, as well. Four stars are because they have a list of cocktails on the menu...under the header "COCKTAILS." I asked for a Mai Tai, which was one of several listed. The waitress responded with and I quote "We don't have cocktails." I was at a loss for words and just asked for water. Because Ms. Ma'am, why is there a whole list on the menu?

This review is for January 23rd, '24. I went to have lunch with a friend. I've always noticed this place, but have never bothered to try it. I wanted a Mai Tai, but i the nice guy assisting house informed me that they did not have all of their ingredients which was disappointing. My friend suggested I order a Tokyo Tea, and it was honestly very delicious. I was hungry, but not that hungry so I orders as California roll and a spicy tuna roll. Honestly after finishing my meal, I could have ordered more food because I did actually indeed feel incomplete and not full after my meal. The staff were very nice, and the vibe for this small quaint place was actually very nice. I'll return.

    Tempura sampler

We ordered Miso Ramen, Eel Roll, California Roll, Bento #1, and Tempura Sampler. Everything is good except for the ramen. Their soy sauce is too dark too.

    Sumo Tower! Yummy & beautiful!

sushiya is fantastic! While new to Dallas, I check it out on Friday and it was a great evening: food was outstanding (sunshine roll, sakura roll, and sumo tower) and service was very friendly and fast.

Good service and sushi. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Lunch specials are a great deal here!

Sushi was ok. Our service was very lackluster. You could tell he didn't want to be there. I tipped 15% and I hardly ever do that.

The only vegetarian thing on the menu was a vegetable tempura with deep fried batter. I won't go back. My stomach won't let me.

Does anyone know if they're open for takeout during the pandemic? I've tried calling but no answer on the phone.

Food: 5/5: I love sashimi so they had a wide variety of it and it always comes out so fresh. The way that you order is first, they'll give you a paper and pen with options you can choose from. There isn't a limit so go crazy! They'll bring it out and once they see majority of all the items are out, they'll give you another sheet to fill out. They never miss on items :) Ambiance 4/5: very cute and small restaurant. The amount of customers they get, they need to start expanding ASAP lol. I HIGHLY recommend getting reservations no matter what day/time it is as it'll get busy QUICK (which is a good thing). if you don't, you'll be waiting unless you go to the bar but even then, it's busy. Service 5/5: service has always been good here! It does get busy so sometimes the drinks come a bit slower. Food sometimes as well. Parking: it's located in Mockingbird Station shopping center so there's street parking but also the parking garage that's close by. Shouldn't be hard to find any!

I made a reservation for three people at 12:00 p.m. to celebrate my friend's birthday. One of my friends arrived early, and unfortunately, the experience started off poorly. While waiting at the bar, he was never greeted. He eventually flagged someone down to order a drink, but the employee never came back. I arrived around 12:03 p.m., and when he told me what happened, I initially brushed it off as a one-off situation. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a preview of how the rest of our experience would go. When I arrived, we were seated in the back and told that CJ would be our server and would be with us shortly. My friend and I were catching up while waiting for our other friend to arrive, so we didn't immediately realize that we had not been greeted, given menus, or offered water. When our other friend arrived, she was told that we were seated in the back, but no one walked her back to our table or showed her where we were. She had to find us herself. We sat there for approximately 10 minutes before I finally had to flag someone down just to get water and menus. At that point, we had still not been acknowledged by our server. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we could clearly see our server, CJ, serving the two tables next to us while completely ignoring our table. Then, a party of six sat down, and CJ immediately went to their table. We had already been sitting there for approximately 25 minutes at this point. I finally got up and asked to speak with a manager. Shortly afterward, CJ came to our table. I explained to him that we had been sitting there watching him serve the tables around us without acknowledging us. His response was, "I just got here." That was simply not true. We had watched him for approximately 20 minutes serving other tables, walking around the restaurant, and repeatedly passing by us. He then immediately went to serve the table that had just sat down. When I asked again to speak with a manager, three employees went over to a man sitting at the bar, but instead of sending a manager or supervisor to address our concerns, they sent the host, Fiona. She was neither a manager nor a supervisor. At no point did anyone take accountability for what happened or make a genuine effort to address our concerns. We were three African Americans who came to this restaurant to enjoy sushi and celebrate our friend's birthday. Instead, we were repeatedly ignored while watching other customers receive service around us. Based on the way we were treated, we left feeling that we had been discriminated against. I understand that restaurants can have busy days, and I understand that mistakes happen. What I do not understand is being completely ignored, watching other parties receive service before us, having to flag someone down for basic necessities like water and menus, and then not having our concerns taken seriously when we finally spoke up. This was not the experience I expected, especially considering I had previously been to this restaurant twice. Unfortunately, based on what happened yesterday, I will not be returning. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. No customer should feel ignored, disrespected, or discriminated against when they are simply trying to enjoy a meal and celebrate a special occasion. 0/10.

The food here was INCREDIBLE and well worth the wait. To be transparent, I did wait almost an hour…read morearound dinner time (7pm). The inside is tiny and there isn't even a proper "waiting" area. I've also tried coming here before, and there was also a long wait. I'm glad I decided to stick it out this time. We ordered the Wagyu sushi, Yakitori, Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, and the Tomato Ramen. The Wagyu sushi is torched right in front of you! The Wagyu was incredibly tender and the sauce was delicious. My only *nitpicky* critique is the rice was ever so slightly too moist, but that didn't stop me from inhaling the sushi. Next, the Yakitori was phenomenal. I've never had such tender chicken in my life. There was a nice layer of delicious sauce coating the skewer. Again, just a really nitpicky feedback I have was that I wish the Yakitori had the tiniest bit more char to it, but nevertheless was an incredible bite, and I'd 100% order again in a heartbeat. Onto the ramen - easily hands down one of the best ramen I've had in DFW. The broth is flavorful, and I love the noodles. I'm not sure if they're handmade from scratch, but they had the perfect thickness and chewiness. I also loved generous the portion of cha shu slices. Most other places only give you 1-2 thin slices, but that was not the case here. The pork was tender. The ajitama was solid too, although I prefer more of a soft-boiled egg. While the meat portion is more generous here, the tonkotsu didn't come with many vegetables. A lot of other ramen places I've been to will have corn, fried garlic, etc as default, but those are all additional cost add-ons here. The ramen was delicious without them though but just something to note. We also got the tomato ramen as it's the chef recommendation. The dish is very creative and the execution was great. Personally, I still prefer traditional ramens but it was certainly a nice culinary creation to try. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again. Just be aware there may be a wait, and because they're so busy, you do have to proactively flag down staff. However, the staff are still really nice despite all the tasks they're juggling at once.

Overall: 4.7/5 [dine in]…read more Our sushi chef was Jayden and he was so nice. He checked in with us throughout the meal to make sure everything tasted good, offered to cut our hand rolls in half so we could share, and even gave us a salmon belly on the house. Black Cod Nigiri ($6): Best bite of the night and it was on the seasonal menu. It was cooked and I'm not sure what they did to it, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Salmon Truffle Ponzu ($18): My second favorite dish of the night. The salmon was super fresh and the truffle ponzu elevated the whole thing. Scallop Foie Gras ($24): Beautiful presentation and good but surprisingly not as flavorful as the salmon truffle ponzu. I was expecting more umami from the foie gras. Salmon Belly Toro Nigiri ($16): Salmon belly with fatty toro topped with ikura. Delicious and melts in your mouth. Toro Wagyu Uni Nigiri ($22): Fatty tuna, A5 wagyu beef, and uni nigiri. My husband thought it was fun to eat, but said he would not order it again. Nodoguro Nigiri ($13): I looked this up, and it's apparently a rare high end deep sea fish from Japan known as the toro of white fish. Based purely on taste though, I thought it was okay and did not compare to the salmon belly. Kanpachi Cherry Blossom ($6.50): A pretty rosy pink color with a subtle cherry blossom flavor. Okay in terms of taste compared to the other fishes we had. Ami Ebi Nigiri ($10): The sweet shrimp was a bit too raw for me. Crab Uni Butter Nigiri ($12): I did not really taste the difference between the uni infused butter and regular butter so I am not sure it is worth the price, though it was still good. Snow Crab Handroll ($7): So much better than imitation crab. Recommend out of all the handrolls we tried. Eel Handroll ($7.50): Not my favorite but my husband said it was one of the best eel he has ever had. Lobster Handroll ($12): Good but nothing special. Volcano Roll ($28): This took the longest to make and was the last item we received even though we saw them start preparing it at the beginning of the meal. The presentation was beautiful and Jayden even sprayed gold on it for our photo and video. It comes with snow crab, avocado, lobster, and bay scallop topped with eel sauce and was really yummy with lots of seafood. The only downside was that the roll underneath broke apart easily which made it hard to eat. Fresh Wasabi Root ($10): We watched them grind the wasabi fresh which was cool to see. It doesn't have a kick to it though so I wouldn't order it again since I like a tiny bit of spiciness. Matcha Mojito ($15): Not for me. It had a bit too much club soda. Yuzu Saketini ($15): I liked this one more than the matcha mojito. The yuzu flavor was prominent and it kind of reminded me of a Lemon Drop.
