I don't know which came first Sushi Bar or Sushi by Scratch but they're both good. I compare the two restaurants because they both have the same vibe. Sushi Bar also feels like a "speakeasy" sushi place. You go downstairs to eat then after you're done you're led out to a bar. Sushi Bar is a modern sushi restaurant. Modern in terms of the nigiri pieces you get; lots of toppings and sauce. My favorite piece was the toro with shaved foie gras on top... butter on butter. If you like Sushi by Scratch you will like Sushi Bar; or vice versa.

Dined here with a friend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. As always, the sushi is delicious and varied flavor profiles to enhance it. The service is top notch and sushi chefs were warm and friendly! Will definitely return again.

Excellent omakase experience! All fish was very fresh, the chefs do a great job in preparing, educating and entertaining. First you met with pleasant hostess that will ensure all of the allergies and dietary restrictions are noted for you and provide you with delicious sake welcome drink. After the party is all checked in you will be directed to proceed downstairs and take your assigned seats. Everything was delicious. For omakase, added caviar service and 3 drinks I paid 310$ including 22%tip. Just to give you a rough estimate. They also have wine, whiskey and sake pairings. Overall great time!

An amazing Omakase experience, everything was fresh and delicious. We also loved being greeted with a complimentary drink. All the chefs were engaging and fun throughout the experience, explaining each course and striking conversations with each of us. It was so great for it to be a small intimate group and a beautiful room perfect for enjoying the amazing sushi. Great drink, sake and wine options as well. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for an excellent omakase experience, we would love to go back again soon!

Sushi | Bar is an underground omakase bar hidden in the old KRLD building. This secret restaurant is connected to a speakeasy. It's cool, mysterious, imaginative, and an incredible experience you don't want to miss. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars Atmosphere - Finding Sushi | Bar can be an adventure (look for the sidewalk sign pointing to a non-descript door). There is a dimly lit waiting area with a few tables, and the host will check you in and serve you a drink. Once your time comes, you will be led downstairs into the basement where you'll find Sushi | Bar. I felt like I found a hidden gem....it turns out I did. 1 Star. Service - Sushi | Bar's personal service begins as soon as you book your seat on Tock.com. The host will reach out to you asking for details about your party, ask about food allergies, and personalize your visit. Upon checking in, the host greeted me and my guest by name. Then, once seated, the expert sushi chefs take over. Before each bite, your dish is thoroughly explained. A delicious bite + detailed description = an amazing experience. 1 Star. Food - Each omakase seating is different. What remains the same is the use of high quality, unique sushi paired with incredible ingredients. Since every dinner is different, I don't think describing what I ate will do Sushi | Bar and its chef justice. What I'll say is my favorite sushi bite was salmon, but it was a special fatty salmon that was served with a little sprinkle of fried shallots over a trace amount of truffle oil. The single bite was room temperature, soft from the sushi, crunchy from the shallots, with a smooth hint of truffle. You eat each piece by hand, as you are only given a towel to wipe your hands between each bite of sushi. It's not cheap, but it shouldn't be. It's super high quality. 2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes (but only after I save up). If you're reading this review, you're probably deciding if it's worth it. It is. Book it for a very special occasion. Sushi | Bar was one of the most unique experiences in Dallas, and I just need a good excuse to return. 1 Star.

I honestly didn't think any sushi place in DFW could beat Hatsuyuki, but this place was phenomenal - definitely the best choice if you're on the D side of DFW (though for the difference in price, I'll still make Hatsuyuki my go-to). Sushi Bar offers a very intimate unique omakase experience with exquisite flavors and pairings. The atmosphere is quiet but still a bit lively, especially with the frequent interaction (and jokes) from the 3 chefs serving up bite size sushi delights. Honestly, their interaction really elevated the experience and made it more fun and less stuffy than expected. Reservations likely required, include a nonrefundable deposit, and don't expect to leave for under $200/pp if you have anything to drink. But for the occasional reward or celebration? Totally worth it.

    Mocktails!

Worth every penny! The food is excellent - add ons are a little expensive but worth the burst of flavour in your mouth! 165/pp + tax etc - then there are pairing options starting from 120++pp They have Mocktails too! Which I absolutely love! When you make a reservation, they ask for your card, it doesn't get charged it's just to hold the resy, but will get charged if you no show :) they text you for names, dietary restrictions and allergies ahead of time. The details and explanation before every bite - elevates the whole experience! The seating is counter seating, relaxed intimate ambiance and an intimate experience for 6 people

I LOVE the omakase here. They have a very modern and unique take on different pieces. I love how they integrate flavors from different cultures into each course.

We had our anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint! The entrance wasn't hard to find because there was a sign next to the door. The waiting area is a bit rustic and small but we were greeted with a welcome champagne. The entire dinner party was not able to find seats. We were invited to the dining room right at our reservation time. Each bites of the 16 nigiris were truly amazing. We especially enjoyed the unique ways they were seasoned. The one nigiri that we weren't a fan of was a one that had strawberry jam. We were also sad with the amount of uni. Overall, a great experience and can see why people are hyped with sushi bar's omakase. Parking was easy to find and I was not able to find valet parking. May be it was at the front of the building. Nevertheless, we found meter parking which was perfect for our 2-hour dinner. The Ginger bar next door is your way out and looked very pretty to grab a quick drink!

Omg, such a great and fun place! The chefs were fantastic and the sushi was amazing!!! Chutoro was my fav and the otoro with the foie gras topping. Chefs kiss! Worth it over other omakase spots, beats out Yujo, Shoyo 100%, and Tei Tei Robata imo. The experience was very personal, chefs carried on mice comversations, made it feel like everyone was there together. The Sushi again....everything was on point, buttery, citrusy, all had their own unique and fun flavors. Rice itself was great and ive had sushi with dry/bland rice. 100% would go back.

Loved our experience at Sushi Bar! I loved the intimate dining experience and I was very pleasantly surprised at the freshness, quality and the flavor of each and every one of the nigiri pieces! Moving back to Dallas from Seattle, I've been craving good sushi and omakase experience and Sushi Bar definitely has been my favorite omakase in the DFW area! Service was so great as well, felt very intimate and the sushi chefs did such an amazing job of explaining every piece. It's also connected to a cute cocktail bar so you can grab some drinks before or after your meal! I highly recommend making your reservation here and trying this place out! Can't wait to go back again!

Such a great take on the omakase experience. The group of chefs not only make the experience educational, but also quite fun! A beautiful course of dishes, in a beautiful environment. Love that this leads into the speakeasy next door as well.

Okay okay okay... 2nd visit here was something special. This is very easily becoming a top favorite of ours for Omakase experiences we've had. Sushi | Bar is definitely a very different atmosphere and ambiance in comparison to some we have experienced in Dallas. Tatsu, Namo, Shoyo all fall under more traditional and formal... but Sushi | Bar offers such a fun, unique, but still semi formal omakase environment. You shoot the shit with the sushi chefs and they're still so incredibly professional with their craft, Incredibly knowledgeable with the fish, the origin, etc and put on such a great omakase experience... they all have such great personalities. On top of all this, the fish quality and rice quality is spectacular. Spending $165pp is absolutely worth it. This would be the place I highly recommend as a first time omakase experience for someone. This time around, we went for my husbands birthday with some great friends and we were so thankful to share such an incredible sushi experience with them. This 17 course omakase came in nearly perfect as every nigiri was phenomenal and I had a hard time trying to pick which bite was better. The nigiri and the ingredients all together provide SO much depth (both texturally and flavor). They have perfected this science. Truly a work of art. Everything works. Couldn't possibly recommend this place any more than I already have... But put it on your bucket list. We will be back again soon! Highlight rolls: Tartare handroll *chefs kiss* They had kasugodai- baby snapper and it was such a special treat! Ora king - farmed salmon that was just wow Star of the show - Otoro and Wagyu (always)

Our table was seated directly beneath an air vent that was actively dripping water. During dinner, the water repeatedly dripped onto me. After notifying the staff the first time, they simply wiped down the vent while food was being served rather than offering to reseat our party. When I brought the issue to their attention a second time, the response was the same; they wiped it down, but the dripping continued throughout the remainder of the meal. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a more proactive solution and better attention to guest comfort. Additionally, our group ordered the Demon Slayer 300 mL sake, priced at $55. After pouring the sake, our server, Adonis, took the bottle away with him, even though we understood that the bottle was intended to remain at the table for our party. This added to the confusion and frustration surrounding the overall experience. As a first-time guest, I was looking forward to an enjoyable dining experience, but the lack of attention to these issues left me disappointed. While the food may have been enjoyable, the service and handling of these concerns fell short of expectations, particularly given the cost of dining here.

I was more than happy to wait, I was offered a beverage while I waited but opted for just water tonight. The manager Alexander came back to see if I needed anything while I waited for my seat. I was seated at the sushi bar & greeted by my server. Her name was Sayaka. She has such a warm smile & energy about her. She explained the menu since it was my first time. I went to Japan recently. I want to start there because the Japan trip is directly relevant to this…read morereview in a way that will become clear shortly and also in a way that is deeply embarrassing and I have made peace with both of those things simultaneously. Japan was extraordinary. The food was extraordinary. The trains were extraordinary. The trains specifically deserve their own paragraph because I have never in my life encountered a public transportation system that operates with the precision and quiet dignity of the Japanese rail network. Trains that arrive at the exact second they are supposed to arrive. Trains that leave at the exact second they are supposed to leave. A whole society of people moving through stations the size of small cities with calm purpose and zero visible distress, consulting their phones, reading books, buying things from vending machines that should not logically exist inside a train station but do because Japan has decided that convenience is a human right and I agree completely. I tell you all of this to explain what happened at the train station when we tried to find pizza. Now I know what you are thinking. You went to Japan and you tried to find pizza. And yes. Yes we did. We had been eating spectacular Japanese food for several days running, food that made us question every culinary decision we had made in our entire lives up to that point, and then something happened in the group dynamic that can only be explained as a collective temporary insanity and somebody said what about pizza and instead of saying no we are in Japan and there is yakitori available within forty feet of us at all times, everybody said yeah okay pizza sounds good actually. The station we were in had approximately forty seven exits. I counted. Not all of them. I counted forty seven before I gave up counting and simply accepted that exits were infinite and directional signage was a suggestion. We had been told the pizza place was near exit B14. There was no exit B14. There was a B4 and a B41 and something that might have been B14 but was labeled in a way that required a level of kanji literacy I had not developed in the forty eight hours since landing. We walked for twenty two minutes. We passed the same Family Mart three times which I know because the same employee was stocking the same shelf each time and by the third pass he looked at us with an expression of gentle recognition and what I can only describe as compassionate pity. We never found the pizza place. We found a ramen shop instead and ate the best bowl of ramen of our collective lives and agreed to never speak of the pizza incident again except that I am speaking of it right now because it is directly relevant to the fact that when I came back to Dallas and needed Japanese food that did not require navigating a forty seven exit train station, I went to Tei Tei Robata Bar on Henderson Avenue and everything was immediately right with the world. Tei Tei has been on Henderson Avenue since the late nineties. Founder Teiichi Sakurai, who is also the man behind Tei An which if you have not been to Tei An please go immediately after reading this review and before doing anything else in your life, has been a James Beard semifinalist six times which is the kind of number that should be printed somewhere more prominently than it currently is, like on a highway billboard or possibly the side of a building. You walk in through a Japanese garden to get to the entrance. A Japanese garden. In Dallas. On Henderson Avenue. Between a taco place and a bar with a patio. I walked through it after the forty seven exit train station and my blood pressure dropped twelve points immediately and I have no medical evidence for this but I am confident it is true. Robata is the traditional Northern Japanese grill style. Wood charcoal. Low heat. Slow intention. Things arrive on skewers that have been coaxed rather than forced into deliciousness. The miso sea bass is the kind of dish that people describe by going quiet for a moment first. The cornflake shrimp is a thing that should not work as a concept and works completely as a reality. The daily special comes out in three parts, raw, robata, and more, and each part is a small argument for why you should be paying better attention to what you eat every day of your life. The sashimi sits in a case on ice near the kitchen and you can watch the chefs working with a calm precision that is genuinely meditative to observe, like a train system that runs on the exact second it is supposed to run, quiet and intentional and doing exactly what it is supposed to do without any drama about it. I sat at the sushi bar and ate things I will not fully describe because some experiences should be discovered and not spoiled. I thought about the ramen we found instead of the pizza we were looking for and decided that getting lost is sometimes the whole point.
