I'm really sad to write this because I was a fairly regular customer and always enjoyed the food here. During my last visit, I paid my bill by card but left a cash tip (about 30%). I wrote "CASH" on the tip line of the receipt and filled in the total without adding a card tip, since I had already tipped in cash. Later, I noticed an additional tip had been added to my card charge that I did not authorize. I'm not sure if this was a mistake or a processing error, but it was disappointing to see and made me feel uncomfortable about returning. The food has always been really good, but I recommend double-checking your bank statement after visiting to make sure your final charge matches what you approved.

Been here twice with my significant other. We like their rice dishes, but honestly, they are a bit too sweet. The main thing is that we didn't know that there is an automatic ~22% gratuity (wasn't noted anywhere and Google also doesn't know about this) attached to the bill. Good thing we caught it because when they handed us our cards back, there was still a spot to put tip and there wasn't a price breakdown then. It was going to be a scam to tip even more, especially with us being only 2 people with our food being less than $20 each. It's honestly so unfair and needs to be noted fairly.

Above average, not the best, but sets a standard. A lot of places have a small menu with a few sushi options. This place does justice for having various options with various fishes and making sushi correctly. However I also had some Beef Udon soup that wasn't too good. The noodles were meh, the beef were like tree bark, the broth was unflavored and I had to pour in a LOT of soy sauce. I can tell they put effort in but it's still far from great. The server was one dude always in a hurry, I didn't get sauces or the tea I asked for (it wasn't charged). Needs some work, won't try here again unless improved or all other options are worse

The food here is so good! Everything cooked came out pipping hot and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The Kumi Ko roll is by far my favorite. The Yaki Soba is great and I definitely recommend the creamy shrimp!

Oh my gosh this place did not disappoint. The lunch special came with soooo much food and was a good price. Everything was fresh and yummy and the portions were large. Lots of seating, nice music and good customer services. I will be back!

Food: decent sushi for slo, definitely not the best though. Decent prices as well Service: polite and quick! Ambiance: clean, lots of seating, calm and quiet but good music too

Was recommended to try Kumi Ko while wine tasting at Baileyana. I always test a new-to-me Japanese restaurant by ordering the chirashi and this one did not disappoint. A plentiful variety of fresh sashimi, tuna, salmon, scallop, ono, tamago and even some ikura! Beautiful presentation, I got to take more than half of it home to enjoy for dinner. Just a bit annoyed to see my chirashi sitting on the counter for over 5 minutes as my husband's bento wasn't ready at the same time. Then he gets his meal first! I'll get over it and be back again!

Super fresh oysters, they become my favorite now.

Go there once a week for fresh oysters. Their sushi are amazing too. The service was excellent.

Kumi Ko is my new favorite sushi spot in San Luis Obispo. We ordered three rolls, including two from the specials menu, which came with a miso soup and salad--making it a great value for the price. Each roll averaged around $20, a bit pricier than other local spots, but the quality and presentation made it well worth it. The fish was fresh, and the presentation of each roll elevated the experience. The miso soup was warm and comforting, while the salad with a ginger dressing offered a refreshing start to the meal. If you're looking for high-quality sushi in SLO and don't mind paying a bit more, Kumi Ko is well worth the visit.

    Banana Tempura Dessert

My boyfriend and I have eaten at this place three times and will keep coming back to try their endless options of dishes! I typically do not eat salmon and was very interested in trying the Philly Roll. Thankfully they were understanding and very flexible in adjusting the dish. One other dish I would like to highlight is the banana tempura dessert! It's definitely must-try for first timers. The restaurant overall is very clean and service was amazing!

Kumi Ko Sushi in San Luis Obispo is great! The sushi is always fresh, tasty, and well-made. The staff is friendly, and the place has a nice, relaxed vibe. Definitely a solid spot if you're craving good sushi in SLO.

Wow! We were told how great Kumi Ko was, and they exceeded all of our expectations! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the only thing better than the food was the service!!! The weather was perfect so we decided to sit outside and our waiter was attentive, thoughtful, funny, and left handed (I'm biased lol) and he made our experience that much better! I would be amiss if I didn't mention we had a second waiter who was equally delightful! Hats off to Kumi Ko! We will be back...soon!!!

Where to begin.... Kitchen items are ok. The fried rice lacks flavor. Soft shell crab is ok as well. Sashimi and Rolls were good. I would it again if I ever come back. Service is not bad at all. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The only thing I don't like is the automatic gratuity in our bill for a party of four. I must have missed this notice. It was not on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant posted. I don't like the auto gratuity especially we were only a party of 4.

Two house specialty rolls. They were on the pricey side $23.

It makes a busy open space intimate. If you want to sit at the sushi bar make reservations or roll the dice. There is nothing quite like watching a chef dedicate their entire service to you. That's the Omakase experience we had. The restaurant was busy, but the team running the show outside our service was a well-oiled machine, and I could tell other diners were enjoying their meals. But what we experienced was on another level. Course after course was assembled in front of us. I love to cook, so watching and engaging was really special. Learned about every fish, salt, oil, cut. Just spectacular. They were also very kind. A few folks celebrating birthdays, including myself, and they doted on us in a major way. Truly memorable.

First time, build your own sushi rolls... Kinda weird and I spent $30 to have to buy dinner somewhere else shortly after... Second time, ordered the chicken yakisoba and a blue crab roll (California roll with real crab).. Yakisoba was $20 and literally looked like a kids sized meal.. good thing I bought the blue crab roll for $15 that I had to squeeze out of a weird plastic roll... Both tasted good, but definitely not worth $35. Again, had to buy dinner somewhere else .. Let's try serving meals that are appropriately sized with less weird gimmicks...

No complaints at all about the staff or the meal. The problem came afterward. After we finished eating, we decided to walk downtown to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant before heading back. We got back around 12:45 PM and my car was already gone--towed from the restaurant's parking lot. Technically, there is a sign posted in the middle of the parking lot that says no parking between 11 PM and early morning hours (I think 7 or 8 AM). But the sign is not easy to notice unless you walk right up to it. It's not visible from most spots in the lot, especially at night, and it definitely wasn't clear enough to warn customers who just finished dining there. I totally understand if a business needs to manage non-customer parking, but towing paying customers right after they finish eating--especially with barely noticeable signage--felt extremely frustrating and really put a damper on the night. Great restaurant, great staff, really good food... but the towing policy and poor visibility of the sign are something people should be aware of before parking there. $645 to take it out that same night...

The space was clean and tidy, not a ton visually to note. The staff was friendly, attentive, and seated us immediately. They took the time to explain how the all you can eat menu works as it was our first time there, gave us a few moments to decide while they brought us water, and then took our order with the chosen menu. Quick efficient and organic interactions The menu was pretty extensive ranging from vegan rolls, nigiri, tempura, baked rolls, appetizers and more for 90 minutes. If I were to go again, I think I would consider the menu slightly differently. I either ordered a lot of may and dairy items or that those ingredients were used frequently through the rolls we ordered. I will say if you like that kind of creamy, then you'll love this spot. They took an absurd about of time to come and just get our drink order an once they did it just got worse. Took them even longer for us to be able to place some appetizers in. Once we finally got both... disappointing we ordered some jalapeño bombs, they were the tiniest things ever. Two jalapeño's cut in half to make four pieces . They completely forgot about us for almost the rest of the night. There was a group of three who sat in front of us and we watched as they received all their plates. Once our server finally came around to talk to us... it was her telling us if we wanted anything else because it was last call. We mentioned yes we still wanted to order actual plates. She looked confused and completely shocked and replied that " oh you guys wanted to order food " as in she thought we only wanted appetizer and drinks. Which was pretty upsetting considering we did not get checked up on once since we had gotten our appetizer and drinks. (yes we tried waving them down and looking for them to get some food in) We have finally received our food and well pretty decent nothing crazy to them, very small amount for the price as well they weren't wrapped up nicely. Each piece would fall apart pretty quickly. Just left dissatisfied and disappointed as well still hungry. We also were rejected on being able to get the all you can eat bundle because it was too "late ". While we had a table to our right who was doing so as we were sat down. We still ended up leaving before them.
