    Kumi-Ko roll

I'm really sad to write this because I was a fairly regular customer and always enjoyed the food here. During my last visit, I paid my bill by card but left a cash tip (about 30%). I wrote "CASH" on the tip line of the receipt and filled in the total without adding a card tip, since I had already tipped in cash. Later, I noticed an additional tip had been added to my card charge that I did not authorize. I'm not sure if this was a mistake or a processing error, but it was disappointing to see and made me feel uncomfortable about returning. The food has always been really good, but I recommend double-checking your bank statement after visiting to make sure your final charge matches what you approved.

Been here twice with my significant other. We like their rice dishes, but honestly, they are a bit too sweet. The main thing is that we didn't know that there is an automatic ~22% gratuity (wasn't noted anywhere and Google also doesn't know about this) attached to the bill. Good thing we caught it because when they handed us our cards back, there was still a spot to put tip and there wasn't a price breakdown then. It was going to be a scam to tip even more, especially with us being only 2 people with our food being less than $20 each. It's honestly so unfair and needs to be noted fairly.

Kumi Ko Sushi in San Luis Obispo is great! The sushi is always fresh, tasty, and well-made. The staff is friendly, and the place has a nice, relaxed vibe. Definitely a solid spot if you're craving good sushi in SLO.

Above average, not the best, but sets a standard. A lot of places have a small menu with a few sushi options. This place does justice for having various options with various fishes and making sushi correctly. However I also had some Beef Udon soup that wasn't too good. The noodles were meh, the beef were like tree bark, the broth was unflavored and I had to pour in a LOT of soy sauce. I can tell they put effort in but it's still far from great. The server was one dude always in a hurry, I didn't get sauces or the tea I asked for (it wasn't charged). Needs some work, won't try here again unless improved or all other options are worse

The food here is so good! Everything cooked came out pipping hot and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The Kumi Ko roll is by far my favorite. The Yaki Soba is great and I definitely recommend the creamy shrimp!

Oh my gosh this place did not disappoint. The lunch special came with soooo much food and was a good price. Everything was fresh and yummy and the portions were large. Lots of seating, nice music and good customer services. I will be back!

    Beautiful, delicious chirashi

Was recommended to try Kumi Ko while wine tasting at Baileyana. I always test a new-to-me Japanese restaurant by ordering the chirashi and this one did not disappoint. A plentiful variety of fresh sashimi, tuna, salmon, scallop, ono, tamago and even some ikura! Beautiful presentation, I got to take more than half of it home to enjoy for dinner. Just a bit annoyed to see my chirashi sitting on the counter for over 5 minutes as my husband's bento wasn't ready at the same time. Then he gets his meal first! I'll get over it and be back again!

Super fresh oysters, they become my favorite now.

Go there once a week for fresh oysters. Their sushi are amazing too. The service was excellent.

Kumi Ko is my new favorite sushi spot in San Luis Obispo. We ordered three rolls, including two from the specials menu, which came with a miso soup and salad--making it a great value for the price. Each roll averaged around $20, a bit pricier than other local spots, but the quality and presentation made it well worth it. The fish was fresh, and the presentation of each roll elevated the experience. The miso soup was warm and comforting, while the salad with a ginger dressing offered a refreshing start to the meal. If you're looking for high-quality sushi in SLO and don't mind paying a bit more, Kumi Ko is well worth the visit.

My boyfriend and I have eaten at this place three times and will keep coming back to try their endless options of dishes! I typically do not eat salmon and was very interested in trying the Philly Roll. Thankfully they were understanding and very flexible in adjusting the dish. One other dish I would like to highlight is the banana tempura dessert! It's definitely must-try for first timers. The restaurant overall is very clean and service was amazing!

Wow! We were told how great Kumi Ko was, and they exceeded all of our expectations! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the only thing better than the food was the service!!! The weather was perfect so we decided to sit outside and our waiter was attentive, thoughtful, funny, and left handed (I'm biased lol) and he made our experience that much better! I would be amiss if I didn't mention we had a second waiter who was equally delightful! Hats off to Kumi Ko! We will be back...soon!!!

Food: decent sushi for slo, definitely not the best though. Decent prices as well Service: polite and quick! Ambiance: clean, lots of seating, calm and quiet but good music too

Where to begin.... Kitchen items are ok. The fried rice lacks flavor. Soft shell crab is ok as well. Sashimi and Rolls were good. I would it again if I ever come back. Service is not bad at all. Our server was attentive and pleasant. The only thing I don't like is the automatic gratuity in our bill for a party of four. I must have missed this notice. It was not on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant posted. I don't like the auto gratuity especially we were only a party of 4.

Two house specialty rolls. They were on the pricey side $23.

I opted to do a trio with the bahn mi, tip o' Argentina, and the garlic fries. The food was good I forgot to take a picture! The tip o' Argentina was solid with the garlic aioli and the chimmichurri perfectly complimenting the steak and the lettuce and tomato adding a little bit of freshness. The buns they use for all of their sliders are soft, slightly sweet, and don't fall apart while you're eating. The Bahn Mi was even better. I love pork but was a little skeptical about pulled pork on a slider riffing on the flavors of a bahn mi. To my surprise and delight, it tasted just like grilled Vietnamese pork, which was perfectly complimented by the fresh and pickled veggies and surprisingly hot jalapeño. Finally, I got the garlic fries which were a massive portion, crisp, and very garlicky. Everything was good and with such a large and customizable menu, I'd definitely return if I was in the area again. I also want to give a shout out to the bartender, Kelsey. However, there is a clear difference between maintaining standards and failing to show basic respect to guests and this interaction reflected the latter. Food: started off with the brussel sprouts and man, those were so so good. Brussel sprouts, goat cheese, pancetta, etc. you get what I'm saying. Flash fried perfectly. We had the salmon bisque and Soup De Novo, which was a vegetable curry soup. These both could have essentially been meals. The salmon bisque was absolutely loaded with salmon. From what I heard about it, it tasted amazing. (I don't eat salmon). The vegetable curry soup was very flavorful and blended smoothly. If you ordered rice on the side, it would have been just like an entire meal. Tikki Masala Chicken - man, that airline chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy and tender, great flavor, no a single thing wrong with it. The rice and vegetables were fantastic, especially the carrots. I don't know why they seemed extra good, but they were. 2 orders of the Ribeye. Once cooked medium and mine, cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, when mine came out, I immediately could tell that it was nowhere near cooked right. It was actually well done. When the waiter came back, I said "I'm sorry to have to do this..." and before I could finish he said "oh yea, that's definitely not medium rare, let me have the kitchen refire that for you". I dislike sending food back, but when you're spending $58 on a ribeye dinner, it HAS to be correct. (Note- the manager remedied the issue quick..came to the table, offered soup, bread, etc, which I had already eaten soup, so he comped 50% off the steak. Nice gesture!) The rest of the vegetables paired with the ribeye were very good. If someone told you the white bean puree was mashed potatoes, most people would believe it. Very creamy and delicious. The Italian salsa verde on top was also very fulfilling. Overall the dinner was very good.

Started with a Butterleaf Wedge which is unique and tasty. Great buttermilk dressing. Really enjoyed it. My grandson had the 50 Layer Lasagna. He loved it. My wife had the La Rustichella Garganelli. Very nice pasta dish but a tad on the drier side. She liked it. I had the Pollo Al Mattone which is a half chicken cooked under a brick. Moist with an unbelievable flavor. The polenta slice was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Wood fire smell, clean bathrooms, etc.
