    Katsu Donburi
    Jon Z.

I was visiting SLO and found this sushi restaurant that I enjoyed overall. Had I known they have all you can eat available, perhaps my group and I would have come more prepared! Instead we got a few rolls, and I got the katsu donburi. The picture doesn't do it justice--this bowl was enormous and you get TONS of rice. The katsu itself was decent, nothing amazing but not bad by any means either. The rolls were also pretty good. The staff was kind and friendly, though service was a bit slow at times. To be fair it was fairly busy as well.

10/10! Shins sushi is always a good pick when in SLO! Good vibes, good people, good service, good prices. All the dishes are made with care and are very filling. The workers are all nice and caring with the customers and Sam is always hospitable with everyone. Our server, who we think is the manager, was on top of everything and was super attentive to our table. Definitely will come back!!

    Rice, wasabi to fish ratio

The location is nice and downtown with ample space to sit. We were greeted nicely and sat down pretty quickly. We got water and tea fast as well then it took a little bit for the waiter to come back and get our order. Not a huge deal as the food came out in a timely manner. Lunch Sushi combo- I was really looking forward to it but, maybe I'm a sushi snob, the ratio of rice to fish was pretty awful. I've never seen fish cut extra long for nigiri and the rice was the smallest little blob that would fall apart. There was also a lot of wasabi. It was burning my nose and you just didn't taste anything else. The fish wasn't bad but also not the best nigiri quality. Finally, the California roll portion was crazy big and I figure that's where the rice went because holy rice ball. This does come with miso and a cucumber salad which both were nice. I love sushi and wanted to love this but the nigiri preparation lacked a lot. Premium prices for mediocre to bad sushi just left a bad taste in my mouth.

    Snow crab and lobster roll

Traveled into SLO for work and after having driven over 5 hours to get there, decided to treat myself to some AYCE Sushi. The restaurant itself is pretty casual and there were a lot of college students so I assume it is near the college. I was a bit taken a back by the AYCE pricing as I wasnt familiar with the tiered pricing which was different from other AYCE sushi I've been to. I was surprised that you needed to get the highest tier to get the nigiri I guess at about $4 a piece when purchased a la carte, the AYCE is still a deal. I got the highest tier and I can say that the quality was actually pretty good! For AYCE, I was impressed by how fresh everything looked, the signature roles were unique and had premium fish and other ingredients. The rice was well cooked and they didn't over pack the sushi with it. The presentation of the roles were also really well done, better than some more expensive a la carte sushi restaurants I've been to. Overall, the food really hit it out of the park. The lobster roll, snow crab roll, nigiri, and specialty Sashimi were all of my favorites from what I had ordered and are only available on the highest tier. If you are a big fan of raw fish, highly recommend getting the top tier, if you're more into simple rolls or just rolls in general, the low and mid tier would be just fine. The service was a bit awkward to begin with as I was seated at the sushi bar but was told to make orders through the server and not the sushi chef which was a little weird since he was working right in front of me. Eventually I just started to order from the chef and it was a much easier experience. The chefs were super friendly and really made sure I had a good experience. Since I was dining by myself, they were gracious enough to make a few of the rolls as Hand-rolls instead which is something g they might normally do if they're really busy. All in all, I had a really good experience at this restaurant and I would highly recommend giving the top tier AYCE a try as that really is where the best menu items are (if you like raw fish).

Had to wait for 20 minutes but once seated everything else came pretty fast. We had limited time as we were just stopping by for some Japanese lunch. Service was good. Food was delish! Place is a good size. They do offer 'all you can eat' which we didn't avail today but for sure lots of people do, hence the wait. Place is pretty clean. This place is located downtown SLO so parking might be a bit of a challenge.

All you can eat prices + items

The food was good-ish, but the service was mediocre. One worker seemed either new or poorly trained she needed help seating us, walked away without telling us to follow her, and mixed up our table number she tried to give our food to other tables before ours even after we told her we ordered it. We also had to flag staff down because nobody checked on us, and with the 90 min all you can eat limit, it honestly felt like they were avoiding our table. (We didn't order a-lot too) All you can eat wise was self explanatory we've never been to this restaurant before and no one bother to explain how it worked so we just hoped we did it fine. If this was the only sushi place in town we'd come back.

Food was fantastic. Nothing but recommended food wise. Everything tasted so good. Service was... sporadic for lack of a better word. It wasn't the same person, or they would switch off so I wasn't too sure who to ask for what. The food was GREAT, however. And when it came down to pay I was just sitting there and had been ignored a couple of times so I wasn't sure if I had to take the check to the front? I wanted to leave and did just that. I received a very mild thanks. So.. uh maybe next time.

Rainbow, baked scallop, s.l.o, tiger, dragon + many more rolls

Sushi was good, some were amazing and some were just okay. We got the AYCE and ordered about 12 rolls off the bat for 4 people. We barely finished it so highly recommend ordering less to start with. My favorites was the s.l.o roll, dragon roll, and this deep fried one with spicy tuna inside. We really didnt like the smoked salmon and cream cheese one. Service was good, they warned us about the rolls but we didn't listen so thats our fault. They also gave us a free pitcher of beer since they forgot to mention the beer deal to us before and also I think partly due to the long wait for our sushi. Everyone was nice and friendly The store vibe is nice and the bathrooms are fairly clean. Good for big groups!

Does anyone know if they plan to re-open in the future?

No complaints at all about the staff or the meal. The problem came afterward. After we finished eating, we decided to walk downtown to meet a friend at a nearby restaurant before heading back. We got back around 12:45 PM and my car was already gone--towed from the restaurant's parking lot. Technically, there is a sign posted in the middle of the parking lot that says no parking between 11 PM and early morning hours (I think 7 or 8 AM). But the sign is not easy to notice unless you walk right up to it. It's not visible from most spots in the lot, especially at night, and it definitely wasn't clear enough to warn customers who just finished dining there. I totally understand if a business needs to manage non-customer parking, but towing paying customers right after they finish eating--especially with barely noticeable signage--felt extremely frustrating and really put a damper on the night. Great restaurant, great staff, really good food... but the towing policy and poor visibility of the sign are something people should be aware of before parking there. $645 to take it out that same night...

We were walk in, the hostess offered us seating in two bar areas and also made room in the front room for us. We sat at a table in the front room. Wish we tried one but next time! The service was so fast. When we got our cocktail the food arrived! We ordered the señor lomo which was their lomo saltado. It was sooo good. The sauce was so flavorful and the filet mignon was very tender. It came with a lot of veggies, fries and rice too. excellent food, seriously disorganized service…read more The food at Mistura had some genuinely outstanding moments, but the service was poor enough to significantly affect the overall experience. The Tamalito Negro was easily the highlight of the meal and one of the most memorable dishes I've had recently. The Peruvian black squid ink tamale was soft and flavorful, and the creamy ají amarillo sauce worked beautifully with the shrimp. It was creative, distinctive, and absolutely worth ordering. The Corazón, or grilled beef heart anticucho, was also excellent. It still had the characteristic flavor of beef heart, which I appreciated, rather than being over-marinated or disguised. The texture was just right: tender but not artificially soft, with enough chew to remain satisfying without being tough. The Seco de Cordero was much less impressive. The lamb was fine, but the cilantro-based sauce was too salty for me, and the dish did not have the same refinement or excitement as the two appetizers. At $50, I expected more. I also tried the classic Pisco Sour, which was smooth, refreshing, and much stronger than it tasted. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disorganized. After I was seated, nobody came to take my order until I actively called someone over. I was not given water and had to request it when the cocktail finally arrived. My server also entered my order incorrectly and ordered a second Tamalito Negro instead of the Corazón. The food runner noticed that I had already received the tamale, took it back to confirm with the kitchen, and only then was the mistake discovered. As a result, my appetizer arrived after my entrée. I also waited a long time after asking for the check and a to-go box, although the server eventually took the food to the back and packed it for me. The kitchen clearly has talent, particularly with the Tamalito Negro and Corazón. But at this price point, guests should not have to repeatedly flag someone down for basic service, water, correct ordering, and the check. I would consider returning for the food, but the service needs major improvement.
