    We had a phenomenal anniversary dinner at Sustenio. The experience we had from beginning to finish was wonderful. Nancy welcomed us in with smile and recommended the Culinary Week menu which didn't disappoint. The shrimp and poblano bisque, the red fish, and the cheese cake all exceeded my expectations. The wines paired with each course went beautifully. Our server Victoria did an exceptional job of checking in on us, making conversation and making us feel welcome. The courses were paced well. The restaurant itself was cozy and romantic.

    We visited after a long day of travel. Cody was so personable. There weren't a lot of patrons but all servers were attentive. The queso was tasty with the brisket. The brisket adds so much flavor. The homemade chips that come with the dish are really good as well. We also indulged in their combo pizza. It was fresh and not overly oily at all. The only disappointment was they serve the pizza with cheese packets verses fresh cheese. Might still be Covid protocol.

    Sustenio the restaurant inside Eilan Resort. the few times we've eaten here it has been good. this was pre-"pandemic". recently they've re-opened to full capacity and hours i believe. so our fingers were crossed it would still be good as some reviews stated otherwise. it wasn't busy. we got there just after they opened. my salad was good. apparently chicken cost $12 extra for a few dry chicken strips. overpriced to say the least. otherwise the salad was good. husband ordered the filet medium. the waitress even came back to confirm we understood medium to be a warm pink center. Little did she realize we are from the Texas panhandle. We know our beef and we know exactly what the meat is supposed to look like on the inside after cooking. in actuality she need to confirm this very question with the cook because the steak came out with NO pink whatsoever inside. none. zilch. nada. can you say overcooked? we did discuss it with the waitress and she informed the cook and manager. waitress offered to have re-done but husband declined. it was still edible and quite frankly i would've been done eating before he got his new meal but we did want them to know the cook was overcooking steaks and at the price they charge for them ... you want it cooked right !!! the manager eventually came over to the table. i honestly didn't think she was going to. they did offer up a free dessert. I took it. IT WAS AMAZING. best thing on the menu no doubt. our waitress was amazing and extremely apologetic thru this ordeal.

I had the cheeseburger with an egg, and while it was decent, it wasn't particularly memorable. The standout was definitely the fries, especially paired with the spicy ketchup. Unfortunately, the biggest issue was the service. Since we were seated outside, it felt like our table was forgotten. We sat for at least 15 minutes without proper plates, napkins, or silverware and had to ask multiple times before everyone was taken care of. We never had enough water glasses for the entire table, drink service was slow throughout the meal, and at one point I walked to the bar myself because my Old Fashioned had been made with agave and was far too sweet. I also had to track down our server just to get the check. Overall, I appreciate that they accommodated a large walk-in party, and the atmosphere and drinks were enjoyable. I was torn on bites but ended up going with the Happy Hour sliders and the pork belly appetizer from the regular menu. Both were soooo good...particularly the Pork Belly which was a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory. This visit redeemed Haywire in my eyes and I'm looking forward to returning during regular hours to explore more of the menu during dinner service.

From the moment you approach the restaurant- Not even walk in- you are greeted by a professional and hospitable staff. In the front 2 young workers gave us sangria samples and helped take my photo. So smiley and kind. Then I checked into my table at the host stand. Our table was in a gorgeous lit room by the stairs. The inside was so breathtakingly beautiful and clean . The restrooms as well. Our server Omar quickly filled our drink cups with cold water and took our actual drink order. They have premium lemomades and also fountain drinks with free refills. When he returned he gave us great recommendations from their 8 dollar tapas menu on happy hour (M-F 3-6). We ordered 3: Tacos de Cochinita Pibil / Slow cooked pork marinated in achiote sauce . Calamares Fritos / Fried steak calamari w/ alioli sauce ... Albondigas / Five Spanish pork meatballs marinated in wine tomato sauce with bread .... The bread with the meatballs should be toasted and it was cold. The calamari were AMAZING. Not chewy at all. And tacos unique and flavorful. It took a while to decide but with Omar's guidance and a lot of research beforehand, I reccomend large parties order these to get the best tasting experience: Parrillada Española / Spanish grilled feast with morcilla, 4oz Spanish sirloin, chistorra, three fried jumbo shrimp, and poached potatoes with alioli Toro Paella / Toro's Classic recipe voted best in San Antonio! Jumbo shrimp, mussels, chicken, calamari, pork belly & spanish chorizo . The grilled platter came out first very fast and the meats were delectable. Love the sausage. Again... toast the bread but everything else was delicious. The paella didn't take long at all. It lived up to our expectations. Delicious and hot, enough to fill us up with whatever room was left. The nicest part was Omar brought us complimentary shots of some sort of strawberry cocktail with a chili rim. He was so thoughtful and brought my sister who was 12 a non alcoholic version. We cheered to a good time. It was so good!!! Then we asked for dessert recommendations. Omar suggested the Torrijas / Classic spanish dessert, bread soaked in sweet cream, fried & drizzled in honey .. so that's what we got. It was SO yummy like tres leches French toast. With their website you get a 30 dollar off first visit coupon using the inkind app. I signed up and it worked perfectly. After the discount all that food came out to $150. Insane for a party of 5. I tipped 30 and using that inkind app got 30 dollars cash back to use anywhere on the app. But ill use it here. Come to TORO for a great time. Linger. Talk. Enjoy unique flavors. So just a heads up if you're visiting this location. Service definitely needed improvement as the waitress completely inattentive and only saw her twice during my time there. I saw a couple of other patrons just as irritated waiting and looking around for her too. When ordering I asked if the stock they used contained shrimp in it due to an allergy at the table. She continued to recommend every dish that contained shrimp rather than answer about the stock- even after being told about the allergy. Finally got my answer after pointing directly to the menu mentioning the seafood stock. Food was okay. Waited a bit longer but reasonably so due to the allergy and food prep. When the server came she asked if we needed more water- which we did. We waited the entire service for that refill, again nowhere to be seen. We were done with our food for about 30 minutes till she finally checked up on us, with the bill. The restaurant added an automatic gratuity of 20% mind you the restaurant policy was only for parties of 6 or more. Like it made me question the service at this location if they're getting tips but not delivering in service. Definitely wouldn't recommend this location.
