We've been going here on and off for the past 20+ years. I haven't been here in close to 10 years, because we moved to the foothills. We went here with a group last night and had the best experience. The quality and preparation of the food was beyond excellent. The service was absolutely perfect and there was literally no wait time for anything...appetizers, drinks, food .. everything was delivered right away. The ambience is great here, we love the old time, romantic feel. This is so rare in these times. Seems like we can't find anywhere really good to eat anymore. Reece was our server. She is very professional and kind The ambiance of Rudy's is good! The food is tasty and we all enjoyed our meals. My only complaint on this Sunday, June 21st, is that after the initial basket of bread (which had exactly four pieces for the 4 of us) we were told by Reece that the restaurant charges $2.00 for each extra piece of bread! I was shocked, and frankly, it's an insult in my opinion, that Rudy's is so "cheap" about the bread! For all we pay for our dinners, asking for extra bread should not be a problem nor an extra charge! That really is a shame because now I am hesitant to consider bringing friends to Rudy's. This place is so unassuming from the outside, but I'm glad we found it! Matthew was our server and the service alone was 5 stars. He was so attentive, timed everything perfectly, gave good recommendations and was so kind. They have booth seating with high backs so it gives privacy and they have a private room in the back for private parties. Last but not least the food was amazing! Everything was seasoned well and the portions are generous. I got the filet and lobster tail and I have no complaints. They also give you bread and either salad or clam chowder. January 22, 2026 - Rancho Cordova, CA Hands down the best happy hour spot in Rancho Cordova. The bar area is comfortable and cozy. I ordered the filet mignon street tacos ($6) and a glass of house Chardonnay ($6) -- such a great deal. The tacos were flavorful and spicy (in a good way!), and the Chardonnay paired nicely. First times topping by this local gem. Been around since the 70's from what I'm told. The art and decor gives off coastal vibes. Great lighting and intimate setting made this perfect for a date night dinner. What wasn't impressive was the side salad with and bread rolls. I've been to other restaurants and steak houses that put a little more effort on their side salads but wasnt a deal breaker for us. I had the captains cut prime rib, which really stole the show. Very impressive nearly 2 inch thick cut of steak. I did find it just a bit dry but the dipping sauce saved it for me. My wife had the grilled salmon which she couldn't stop talking about. We have dined ar Rudy's many times but have never left a review. We celebrated a birthday tonight and, as usual, we enjoyed ourselves. We were greeted and seated within five minutes and a server was at our table within a couple more minutes. Our beverages were delivered quickly and the appetizers arived shortly after. Stopped in for lunch after a nimbus fish hatchery field trip. The parking lot was packed! Inside was quiet, but really quickly filled up. I think a reservation might be a smart move here. The decor is really cool, very old school nautical vibes. My 4yr old loved the fish and lobster tanks. I loved the ornate treasure tables! The hostess and our waiter were awesome, very attentive and friendly. We started with some fresh warm complimentary bread- really good! I ordered the lunch special- half seafood salad sammich and cup of clam chowder and hubby got a bowl of clam chowder. Hands down the best clam chowder in town, they even top it with some crumbled bacon! FIRE!! The seafood sandwich had shrimp, crab and lobster on a grilled garlic sourdough bread- INCREDIBLE! The prime rib sandwich au jus was delicious and I appreciate being able to substitute a salad for the fries (which were delicious stolen from my friend's plate) but I love the chowder! Worked up an appetite after paddleboarding across the way at Lake Natoma. Their lunch special is the perfect portion and combination. This time, the chowder was pretty salty. I didn't find much clams, but plenty of bacon, so it wasn't my best bowl of chowder tonight. The restaurant location is the middle of no where but don't let that full you. Upon walking in we were greeted by the hostess and seated right away. Our waiter greeted us and quickly got us drinks and their amazing sourdough bread. We ordered the lobsterzilla (specials menu), prime rib and a smaller lobster tail that came with a soup or salad, baked potatoes and asparagus. The soup and salads came out and were flavorful. The salad was a larger portion than you would expect. The dinner plates arrived and everything was seasoned well and tender. The ambiance was nice, lightning was fitting for the setting: Now the food wasn't horrible but it just didn't stand out. My sister and her husband came up from San Diego to visit me. They had taken me to a good lobster roll place in San Diego. I tried to return the favor when they visited. Rudy's was recommended to me as one of the best places for seafood and lobster roll. We were very disappointed. Let's just say I ate a toasted bread loaf with some bits of lobster. The lobster was very minimally seasoned too. I don't like a lot of mayo but this was lacking of mayo. I think they used a baby spoon to scoop. The clam chowder was more of a cream soup with potato. Brought my wife to Rudy's for our 3 year wedding anniversary. Booking our reservation was easy peezy. Service was excellent as we were seated promptly, despite the restaurant being packed. Anniversary night and we wanted to try something new. We drove by recently and thought this be a nice place. We got the crab cakes (2 come in an order) for appetizers, and shared a bottle of duckhorn Sauvignon. Each meal comes with a soup or salad and we opted for the clam chowder. The clam chowder has good chunks of clam and a nice ratio to the potatoes. I didn't care for the actual base of the soup though; might of been too much butter, compared to other clam chowders I had. For my entree I chose the lobster ravioli and my partner went for the lobster and prime rib. My meal had shrimp mixed in with the 5 lobster ravioli; the ravioli is fresh pasta which tasted good, unfortunately once again though the sauce has so much butter it overpowered the dish and ruined it. I took one bite out of the ravioli, tried one of the shrimps and told my partner; to his disappointment, I was done with my meal. The waiter came and checked with my date that he was happy with his meal but for mine just boxed it up to go at the end. Overall the atmosphere is nice, with comfortable seating and fun art on the wall for purchase. Maybe I just didn't pick the right meal for me and the search continues at this restaurant for a possible second visit. read more

Just an awful experience for my husband's dinner. Lobster bisque soup used to be sooo good. It was a diluted version with sour cream on top and maybe a TBSP of crisped lobster. Awful soup. Salad - I could pick up a bag from RALEY'S and put a salad dressing and that was it. Horseradish - with butter?? I don't think so. Rudy's is no longer on our list for dinners anymore. Denise - the server - she has to be related to the business owners or maybe part owner. She shouldn't be serving customers - it's almost as if customers were trying to be nice to her to get served and get through their dinner. Attentive but not intrusive. Very helpful in helping us decide on our meal. Prawn cocktail was perfect. Large prawns! Wife enjoyed the lobster dumplings. Lobster tail for her and captains cut prime rib for me. Both very good. The prime rib was actually exceptional. Doneness just as I ordered it. Very tender and large flavor. I had the lunch special for $15.00. A cup of clam chowder and a half shrimp sandwich with sriracha sauce. The clam chowder was the best I've ever had, but the sandwich was practically inedible. The shrimp (3 medium), were overcooked and more like the ones you buy in the freezer in the grocery store. Also on the sandwich were pieces of French fried like potatoes. They were hard and crunchier than any potato chip. The sriracha sauce was more like light pink mayonnaise, and slathered on thickly. There was a paper thin slice of tomato on top. A disappointment. It's one of the best steak and lobster places I've ever been to, and it's in my own hometown. I've eaten in both the main restaurant area as well as in the spacious bar area. Each area has its own charm; however, I like the bar side better because it has a richer warmer feel to it. There is a very nautical feel. On our latest visit, we came in a little before 3 pm on a Thursday for a drink and appetizer. We sat at the bar. Our bartender's name was Laura. She was very friendly and took great care of us. Happy Hour doesn't start until 3, but we ordered a couple glasses of Chardonnay anyway and waited until 3 to order an appetizer. My wife ordered a cup of chicken pot pie and I got two beef tacos - Happy Hour price for the two tacos was $6. We got a couple more glasses of wine as well. They have Chardonnay, Cab. Sauv., and Merlot - Happy Hour price $6. I wish they would have had Pinot Noir at that price as well. The appetizers were very tasty and we had a great time. Laura informed us that they have a Monday night dinner special - $70 for two, with lots of great choices to choose from. You can also select bottles of wine for $19 on Mondays. read more

This place is absolutely delicious! The ambiance is unique in the particular area where we sat it is designed like a boat. Decor was unique! My date said he read on the menu that this place has been around since the 1970's! The service was impeccable! Kathy was our waitress and she was so quick. Constantly refilling our drinks anytime they were half full. She made recommendations but also explained which items were made fresh in house. The calamari was freshly breaded in house so that was the appetizer we choose. It was rubbery. Tasted good but I couldn't get pass the texture. It was a 3/10. I would skip it next time and try something else. The lobster potstickers are also made in house so that is what we will try next time. I had a cup of clam chowder with my meal. It was delicious! Little bacon pieces on top! Very tasty! 9/10 For my main dish I got the hand cut New York steak with mushrooms on top, asparagus and a baked potato. This was the best steak I have had in a long time! Baked potato was soft and creamy! Asparagus was excellent too! 10/10 My date got the prime rib and lobster dinner. He also got a baked potato and asparagus. His prime rib was beautiful and tasted scrumptious! The lobster was delicious dipped in the butter it was served with. 10/10 We both got sourdough bread too. I don't know if it's made in house but boy oh boy it was so soft and warm! I could have ate a whole loaf! 10/10 For dessert we shared the chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and pretzels.
