My granddaughter chose this place for breakfast-something I wouldn't have done since in the past the service was bad. The food was okay until I noticed a dead fly in the syrup on my plate. Since there were flies all around I assumed it just landed there--and then I saw one in the bottle and realized that I had been eating syrup that flies had died in. What was worse is that it was dusted with paprika which wasn't on the menu. My friends ate the toast since I have an allergy to paprika. I didn't say anything to the waitress cause she appeared very annoyed to even be there. Thank goodness my friends were there and made the ambiance worthwhile. Swami's in Escondido is such a gem. It can be busy at times, so there may be a small wait. We normally sit at the bar, so we usually get seated right away! The bartenders are always friendly and attentive. The fish tacos are amazing! Lot of food! Lobster Benedict is a favorite of my girlfriend. Though there was a large crowd we only waited about 15 minutes. The menu is quite extensive and includes both breakfast and lunch options. Gluten free items available. The coffee bar is self serve so you can customize to your individual tastes. Seating is inside and outside. The breakfast burrito has everything you'd want in it but salsa, ask for extra. Today I came in with my cousin, her fiancé, and her little brother. We ordered a peanut butter coffee smoothie. We were given a regular peanut butter smoothie instead. When the girl came to give us the first smoothie (the hostess), she turned to our waitress that was attending someone else to tell her that we order the coffee one. My cousin and I saw her roll her eyes as soon as she told her that she'd have to bring out a different one instead. After that, her attitude towards us changed. I once read that there is no shame in being Black. It's just a little inconvenient at times. Swamis in Escondido confirmed this. I arrived around 9am. Sat at the bar. I recieved no acknowledgement. That's OK. But why did i witness the white person next to me paid their bill and the white couple next to me recieved refills on their drinks while I sat between them completely ignored. It wasn't until another white couple sat next to me that I magically became visible. Because they of course needed menus. I got my menu. Ordered my food. But to confirm my feelings a white man sat next to me. He did not have to wait 20 minutes as I did. He was acknowledge and served in a timely manner. Sadly, the new Escondido location is a big miss. Food, aside from the price, which you acknowledge upon entering any Swamis location, for me, the real crime here is the prep. It's poorly made, indifferently presented and served. And yeah, pricey because there are a lot of other places that make better food for less. And, by the way, have much better menus. I think the real surprise in my visit to the new Escondido was the lack of diversity on the menu. Service was ok but honestly, average. After the meal, one of the managers asked our party of four if we would mind leaving so they could seat another group. Yeah, that really happened. So sure, instead of sitting there and chatting and enjoying ourselves, we left. This is a brand new building. They gutted the old restaurant and the rebuilt it. So you would think the HVAC might work? Not so much. No heat in the seating area. I cannot imagine what sort of nightmare they encountered in the building process but from a customer perspective, no one wants to eat with their jackets on, inside. All in all, the new Swamis, much like the old Escondido Swamis is a place you can easily bypass. There are much better choices for service, atmosphere, food and prices. I came to Swami's Cafe for lunch. I ordered the California Chicken Sandwich with French Fries. The bun was this big glossy wheat bun. It was too much. it also had a bunch of gross looking red onions under the pepper jack cheese. The fries came cold. This location did have good customer service. The meals of the people I was eating with looked a lot better then mine and they seemed to enjoy their meals. If your going to go here, just stay away from their California Chicken Sandwich. read more

My husband used to go a lot to the original location on Grand for monthly networking meetings. This is the first time we've been to the new location. Parking is sparse. And they now have diners get their own coffee. My son, who is not a complainer, did not finish his pancakes. I just presumed he was full (the pancakes were a good size). My husband tasted it, and told me that the taste was off. I tried it myself and found the taste to be similar to non-gluten fare. We were at the end of our meal, and was given the tab. I asked the server if the pancakes were gluten free. He asked me if we ordered gluten free (I think as our server, he should know the answer to this), to which I said we didn't. He then says, "Then it's not gluten free." So, that's it for Swami's pancakes --- the regular pancakes taste like gluten-free ones. I wonder what the gluten-free ones actually taste like? (*insert sarcasm here*) So with the server's cavalier attitude, and the difficult parking and the non-gluten-free pancake that tastes like gluten-free ones, that's it for Swami's for us. read more

The only negative was the self-serve coffee bar. Not that I am super fancy, but I don't want to have to keep getting up to get my own coffee. I really like the location and decor, the menu is great (same as other locations, obv), there is a full bar, I thought the service was good... but no sooner was I seated did I learn that there is no espresso machine(!!! all of the other Swamis locations I've been to have one!) and, thus, no lattes and, sadly, not a place I want to go for breakfast (my favorite meal to eat out!). The friends I went with today were also disappointed to learn this, and I know my mom won't come here with me until they have latte capabilities. I'll update my review to give the 5 stars I want to as soon as that's fixed. I know this is petty, but I guess that's just who I am. read more

Went to Swami's new Escondido location. The new building is very nice with ample outdoor and indoor seating and modern pleasant decor. They have a great great looking bar area though we were here for breakfast. The service was super friendly and reasonably prompt. I've found that swami's is one of the most reliably great places to get pancakes. I got the multigrain blueberry and the huge pancakes were cooked perfectly and were fluffy and tasty. I've always appreciated their veggie options. I had a side of eggs and mock bacon. The bacon isn't great but I appreciated the option and that it was a no charge swap. My wife had the huge cream cheese stuffed strawberry french toast which looked and tasted great. Glad they finally re-opened. read more
