Wow, how have I not reviewed this place yet?! A couple of things about this place: it's about as twee/cute/hipster as you can get. If quirky light fixtures, old timey glassware, and over-engineered water stations annoy you, don't bother. For the non-curmudgeons among us: this place is great. It's about as "Portland" as you can get. The seating setup, however, is pretty anxiety-inducing. You order at the counter, then chose your seat. It always seems like you'll never get a seat, but, miraculously, you always seem to! The staff seems to have gotten wind of this over the years, and they are now very helpful in placing you in the perfect seat. They have amazing-looking baked goods. I'm not into baked goods. I'm into these baked goods. I usually get their classic plate breakfast. You get a little bit of everything and a big hunk of their house-made bread. The coffee here is also spectacular. The place is as quaint and cool as can be, and the records playing are coming from Mississippi Records next store. The breads are made in-house and crazy good. The lineage of this place goes back to Random Order (RIP) and before. Any bad reviews are coming from out-of-towners that aren't used to ordering before being seated. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Definitely a trek to get there but I'll do it everytime. Lovely place decorated with many house plants and the vinyl record playing in the background created the perfect atmosphere for brunch on a rainy Sunday morning. We wanted to order everything on the menu and grabbed all the pastries in the showcase but, alas, we can only pick a couple of stuffs. We went with the Salted Honey Pie (topped with whipcream) for a starter. It was stellar. The depth of the honey flavor was phenomenal. The hint of salt helped to elevate the honey; everything worked perfectly together. For the mains, we shared the Porridge, the Corn Cake Plate, and the Breakfast Plate between us. What a feast it was! The Porridge was like nothing we've had before. It had a subtle pumpkin taste that was perfect for Fall and went really well with the chopped pickled vegetables and crispy bacon. The Corn Cake Plate came hefty with two cornbread pancakes and two sunnyside up. We went to town with the maple syrup on this one and it was amazing. Even the collard greens was delicious! The Breakfast Plate looked less interesting than the other but don't judge until you've tried the Wheat Molasse Toast. Boy, do I want a loaf of that pillowy bread. Super cute cafe, and I had high hopes when we walked in. We were told there was a 10-15 minute wait for our party of two and they put our name on a list. We were the next people on the list. Within 5 minutes, 2 tables of 2 left. For whatever reason, they waited until they had enough tables to seat a few tables at once so our 10-15 wait was actually 25-30 minutes. They have 4 items on the menu for lunch and they were out of the one item we wanted. Poor supply management. I ordered a salad which was very overdressed and Grandma's bread which turned out to be a $6 slice of bread. $6 for ONE slice of bread. And if I wanted jam or cinnamon and sugar, that was going to cost an additional $2!! What amount of cinnamon and sugar are you giving to charge $2?! And of course, because it's Portland - we had to get our own coffee and go up to the counter to pay. I was searching for a spot to have a late breakfast Friday around noon. I ran across Sweedeedee on my online search. I had not really heard of this place before they recently reopened having closed for the pandemic. I drove up Albina from Mississippi. I saw the place seemed kind of full which was a good sign. I parked and wheeled over to the front door passing the outside seating area which had a couple open tables. Someone saw me coming and opened the door for me. I wheeled up the ramp and was greeted by the person behind the counter with a "how can I help you?". The inside seating was all taken. From where I was I could see back to the kitchen space which had fresh bread on the top lots of pots and pans and happy people working the area - another good sign. The person said they could text me when an inside seat opens up as it was a bit chilly outside. I noticed a group paying for their experience and ordering some merch which was a further sign of good. I stepped out into the street to wait for my text message. Around the corner was a veggie shop with a carrot on top of the building. It seemed like a healthy place so I entered. I noticed a nice wine selection...a bottle from Sicily...they must be connected. Lots of fresh vegetables and foods. I continued a walk around the block and received my text message probably a wait of 15 minutes from when I stepped out the door. I returned, my table was waiting, the staff greeted me with warm smiles. I took my seat which had water waiting at the table and was asked if I would like some coffee and given a menu. I saw all sorts of good food on other peoples' tables. People happily gobbling up what was on their plates. I ordered the french toast probably would have had the sourdough toast dish which looked good but I have been craving french toast. The coffee was from Extracto which has always been great coffee experiences for me. The French Toast with raspberry sauce was the choice today! So far a pretty aesthetically pleasing experience. The French Toast arrived truly appetizing. I started in each bite was better than the previous. A custard like center with crispy edges to the bread and a raspberry sauce that was full of flavors as well. It was a pretty large order and felt myself getting full too soon maybe a sugar rush now or was I in a food food coma. Either way pretty delicious and pleasant experience. I got the breakfast plate, and I would say that I could tell everything was very fresh. I think for someone that's looking for something more light, this is the right place. I'm not sure I would describe this place as a very hearty meal, but it was still a pleasant experience. What really wow-ed me was the salted honey pie. Would highly recommend that! Loved my lunch at Sweedeedee! Portland has no shortage of awesome cafes and this one definitely won me over. My friend and I came in on a Saturday for a late lunch--you order at the counter and they seat you when a table becomes available. We only had to wait a few minutes before snagging a table inside (there's some outdoor seating as well if the weather cooperates with you). I ordered the soup and salad and a drip coffee. The soup they had that day was a creamy veggie situation with lentils in it. So good! The salad was really simple and lovely and the big hunk of bread on the side was a nice touch. The coffee is serve yourself so you can go nuts if you want to! The space itself is beautiful but fairly small, so U wouldn't come here with a group of more than three or four people. Prices are fair and standard for a good meal in Portland. One note about service: the folks who were working the day I came in were the least friendly of anyone I encountered in Portland. This is one of the spots I like to visit when I'm in Portland. It captures what the locals crave, a seasonal fresh meal. Today I splurged on a delicious Bloody Mary with a unique twist - beet juice. Drink was bright and colorful, best part - it works. My entree was a BLT and added one of the farm fresh eggs. The heirloom tomato was hearty and bursting with flavor, it really made the BLT experience stand out and now crave heirloom tomatoes. Please be patient and take the McDonald's attitude some place else. Yeah you might get an occasional wait, and yeah some people might have a small conversation with the staff. First time here as I don't usually spend a lot of time in NE, which will clearly be changing after the visit to this cute spot! You have to wait to be seated and order until your whole party is here but that's pretty typical for most places here in town. You order at the counter which, is kind of nice as there's no awkwardness over the bill or tip at the end of your meal. Our server was really friendly and let me do quite a few adjustments on my order as I'm trying to be a little bit lower calorie (hello 2020!). Their coffee was amazing and I want their mugs in my house for personal use! Instead of any artificial sweeteners they had honey water and simple syrup. But...HONEY WATER? 100% yes, I am on team honey water (HW) now. Ok, enough about HW...I ordered the breakfast burrito kind of deconstructed without the tortilla and some of the other elements on the side. It was delicious and my friends food looked pretty great too. Our food came out relatively and although it is a smaller place you don't feel the need to rush from the staff, which is nice. There menu is very simple, but the quality of the food is absolutely amazing. I give this place 3 stars, only because it wasn't mind-blowing food -- it was good, but nothing I remember or want to try again. Except for the pie, come here for the pie and only the pie!! I had their House Trout Plate. The mixed greens were so fresh!! The smoked trout was also not too salty and had a nice soft texture. The horseradish sauce was strong, so order that on the side if you get the chance! Loved the bread, eggs, and potatoes. All the flavors tasted great together. My friends had the Breakfast Plate and Breakfast Bowl, which both looked very vibrant in flavor and they said it tasted good as well. We found this place by accident (We were looking for a tra place), but it was a happy accident. This snug little restaurant also had covered outdoor seating, which we took advantage of. The heater over the table made it just perfect for a February evening. I ordered the most beautiful and elegant side salad I have ever seen. It was almost too pretty to eat, but it was delicious. (How often can you say that about a side salad?) My companion had a curly pasta dish (I don't remember the name) that they said was perfectly balanced. We shared the yummy green olives. Service was ideal, and the server checked back on us several times and answered several questions we had about the food. Incredibly rude staff/ owners. I was meeting up with a local friend as I was in town for the weekend, and really looking forward to trying this cafe. My party of 4 adults and a baby didn't fit at any of the smaller cafe tables and there are just two somewhat larger tables. So we waited for about 20 min while a group was finishing up their meal, and when they left sat down. (Meanwhile, we had stood by the door and let others know we weren't ordering yet so they could go first.) we get settled and then go to stand in line to order and are told we can't "save" a table. I explained that we were in line to order and would be using the table right then, but the staff member insisted that it was unfair to others who ordered first not to be able to take whichever table they liked. They offered to put us on a waiting list once we had ordered if there were no tables available. Now, to be fair most of their patrons were in groups of two or single people having a quick coffee, so I'm sure the seating policy works for most. But it wasn't going to be logistically sensible for my group. Would we wait around for an open table with our food and drinks in hand while a group of two took a larger table? Another staff member then came outside and was brusque and dismissive. So we chose to leave rather than stay somewhere we were clearly unwelcome. I wish we would have been able to try the food and this review would be more helpful on that front. Oh well! It costs nothing to be kind, and they could have delivered the news with a great deal more hospitality. read more

Sweedeedee has a great name, a great soundtrack, some excellent corn cakes and some difficult to score tables. In terms of food, there are some basic, tasty farm fresh eats here. We had the Sweedeedee breakfast, small fresh green salad, hunk of farmstead cheese, two of the thickest slices of bacon, one sunny side up egg, brioche toast and some homemade not too sweet berry jam. This felt like a simple farm-style breakfast, unsophisticated but wholesome. More eggs would make this a better order. We also got the breakfast burrito with bacon --tasty. Our best order was the corncakes, remarkable tasting cornbread pancakes with tons of bacon and a side of greens. Enjoyable. The BLB (Bacon, Lettuce and Beets) sandwich just was named one of the best sandwiches in Portland, so maybe try that too. In fact, Sweedeedee has been getting lots of editorial food love (Eater, Portland Magazine, GQ) for their tasty items. There are great tunes on the radio and cheery hipsters work here. Clearly, the farm freshness of the food is a priority, and the plates look like simple goodness, with dense cakes from another era, like your auntie or grandma might make. Food is wholesome and solid. My main reservation at Sweedeedee is an odd ordering system where you wait in a line to order food first, then put your name in for a table. Next, you inexplicably wait outside again until a table is ready (about an hour or more on weekends.) Then even later, you get a table. Then twenty minutes after that the food that you ordered and paid for an hour and a half ago, arrives at your table. There is a reason most other restaurants don't work this way. It's awkward. Its odd. Its really not at all customer-friendly. (I suppose now that you've paid, you are not going to bail out. Maybe that's the theory?) In terms of a customer experience, I'd far rather leave my name, grab a latte elsewhere. and get a call back that my table is ready. Strange but true. There is no doubt that this is one of the top places for breakfast in Portland. The quality of their breakfast is absolutely tremendous. We arrived early on Saturday morning and were promptly seated. We chose to sit outside on their patio because they have very nice outdoor seating with very effective heated lamps at each table. It is a covered outdoor patio as well so we had no issues sitting there while it rained. Our server was sincerely friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the Breakfast Sandwich and the French Toast. The French Toast was one of the best I've tried. The bread, taste and texture was amazing. I especially liked the cinnamon and brown sugar flavors. It is definitely a filling dish as they provide very large portions. The breakfast sandwich was also very tasty. It was unique too as it didn't taste like your average breakfast sandwich. It tasted much better than your average breakfast sandwich. You can add bacon or ham to it. I chose to add ham and it was very high quality ham. The scrambled eggs were also made perfectly. They use a sort of pickled mayo which gave it a very distinct flavor. The fresh cantal cheese also added wonderful flavor to this perfectly made breakfast sandwich. We also ordered a side of bacon and I have to say it was a very generous portion of bacon. They really gave us an great amount of bacon just for ordering it as a side.
